DescriptionBeing in the US military affords many unique work and life experiences. Adhering to the chain of command, moving around the world, maybe many times at the drop of a hat, and jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. These are all experiences that shape those in the military in a variety of unique and powerful ways. And today, my guest and I talk about this overlap of the lessons learned while serving in the US military in active duty and now in the reserves, but also particularly how that applies to teaching and preaching the gospel. There are some really powerful lessons that we can take away there. We also get into this question around testimonies for Catholics. The relationship between evangelization and catechesis, and also why it's so important to have live presentations and not just turning on a video in our work in ministry. Great stuff all around today. Colleen Vermeulen is now a leader in the Catholic Biblical School Ministry but she spent her first six years after college on active duty in the U.S. Army. The U.S. military thrives on being an organization that seeks to develop leaders. Today we discuss how embracing the leadership inherent in speaking can motivate us to step out of our comfort zones as a teacher, catechist, or speaker…And just a quick note, because Colleen is actively serving in the military, know that her views today are hers alone and do not necessarily represent the views of the Department of Army, Department of Defense, or the US government. Waar komt melk vandaan? AI and the future of work are transforming every business—but people remain the biggest competitive advantage. Deloitte explains why organisations that combine human expertise with AI will lead the next wave of innovation. Andre Vermeulen, Partner | Human Capital Leader Consulting Services at Deloitte Africa, joins What's Next powered by Deloitte to unpack the key findings from Deloitte's latest Global Human Capital Trends report. He explains why organisations must rethink traditional ways of working, embrace continuous adaptation, and build cultures that allow people and AI to work together effectively rather than compete against one another. The discussion explores the concept of "Human x Machine", why only a small percentage of organisations are successfully embedding AI into everyday work, and how leaders can balance automation with human judgement. Andre also examines the risks of over-relying on AI, including declining critical thinking, data quality concerns and trust, while highlighting practical examples of AI-assisted decision-making from Deloitte's work in Formula 1. The conversation concludes with insights into organisational agility, adaptive learning, and why human capability—not technology alone—will determine which businesses succeed in the AI era. For South African business and technology leaders, this episode offers practical guidance on preparing organisations for rapid technological change while ensuring people remain at the centre of innovation. 0:00 Intro 1:25 Deloitte's Global Human Capital Trends report explained 3:31 Why organisations must become faster and more adaptable 5:05 Human × Machine: the future of AI at work 10:03 The risks of over-relying on AI 15:04 Formula 1, AI and human decision-making 20:07 Why human advantage is the real competitive advantage Follow MyBroadband: X - https://twitter.com/mybroadband Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/mybroadband Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/mybroadband/ Website - https://mybroadband.co.za/news/ Sponsor: Deloitte - https://www.deloitte.com/za/en/Industries/technology/research/tech-trends-2026.html #ArtificialIntelligence #FutureOfWork #DigitalTransformation

“Speak softly and carry a big stick” is more than Jared Vermeulen's favourite quote it reflects the way he thinks about leadership, responsibility, and the modern fire officer. Born and raised in the blue-collar fishing town of Jupiter, Florida, Jared grew up around construction and was originally working towards a career in industrial design engineering before the fire service found him. After completing his technical training and emergency medical degree with PBCC, he was hired by the City of Boca Raton as a firefighter in 2007 and has never looked back. Now a fire officer with over a decade in the seat, multiple state certifications in technical rescue and hazardous materials mitigation, and the author of The Modern Fire Officer, Jared brings a grounded, practical, and deeply human perspective on what it means to communicate, motivate, and lead.connect with Jared HEREBUY HIS BOOKS HEREAccess all episodes, documents, GIVEAWAYS & debriefs HEREPodcast Apparel, Hoodies, Flags, Mugs HERE Please check out our Partners supporting this episode areWilliam Wood Watches - Discount code FFPODCAST gives the user 10% off full range on websitePBI high-performance fabrics GORE-TEX Professional ClothingMSA The Safety CompanyJAFCOSend us Fan MailSupport the show***The views expressed in this episode are those of the individual speakers. Stijn Schmitz welcomes Chris Vermeulen to the show. Chris Vermeulen is Founder & Chief Investment Officer, The Technical Traders. Vermeulen begins by analyzing the current equity market, noting that while stocks are grinding higher, the rally is not broad-based but concentrated in tech, small caps, and micro caps, which he sees as a sign of underlying weakness. He suggests the market may be entering a euphoric, parabolic phase, potentially triggered by upcoming IPOs like SpaceX, but warns this could end in a sharp correction and a major market top. Using Fibonacci extensions, he projects significant upside for the NASDAQ but remains cautious about the rally’s sustainability. Shifting to commodities, Vermeulen explains his preference for stable, trending assets over volatile, headline-driven ones like oil, which he avoids due to geopolitical noise. He expresses similar concerns about the agricultural sector, seeing it as a crowded trade where heavy public interest and high volume may indicate distribution rather than further upside. His most detailed analysis focuses on precious metals, where he forecasts a substantial near-term pullback for gold and silver. His Fibonacci analysis points to a potential drop in gold to $3,600 and a 46% decline in silver from current levels, which he views as a painful reset for latecomers before the next major bull cycle begins. He views gold miners as the same correlated trade, warning against over-concentration. Vermulen advocates for his “asset revesting” strategy, rotating capital into assets in confirmed uptrends and stepping aside when trends weaken. He emphasizes discipline, risk management, and avoiding emotional attachment to assets like physical gold, which he notes costs money to hold and can underperform for years. His focus remains on equities for now, waiting for a clearer entry point in precious metals after an anticipated sell-off. In his book Asset Revesting – How to Exclusively Hold Assets Rising in Value, Profit During Bear Markets, and Continue Building Wealth in Retirement, he lays out this investment framework. Chris launched his financial career at 16, parlaying his knack for trading and risk management into funding his final year of college, where he earned a business diploma in operations management. By his twenties, he had achieved financial independence as a full-time entrepreneur and trader. After a setback—blowing up a trading account—Chris dedicated himself to treating trading as a business, completing the Trading Strategy Mastery and Trading Is Your Business courses. A technical analysis expert, he devises systematic methods to spot market opportunities and control portfolio risk, rejecting traditional buy-and-hold approaches that cling to depreciating assets. His efficient asset allocation models balance short- and long-term strategies to minimize drawdowns and consistently outperform benchmarks. Those seeking reliable capital preservation and growth turn to his proven techniques.

Christopher Vermeulen breaks down a volatile earnings-driven market marked by sharp divergences within the Magnificent Seven, as Meta Platforms (META) slides and Alphabet (GOOGL) rises. He says the current sideways action is a healthy reset for momentum ahead of results from Nvidia (NVDA). Vermeulen also highlights bullish technical setups in the Global X Lithium & Battery Tech ETF (LIT) and the iShares U.S. Real Estate ETF (IYR), noting continued risk appetite despite rotation away from defensive sectors.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors. "Gold is forming a very big bull flag pattern pointing to $8,000+" – Chris Vermeulen breaks down the massive upside ahead. But first, he warns of the final shakeout.
In this episode of Elevated Access, host Chad Hughes sits down with Ron Vermeulen, founder of Land Solutions, to explore how a career in the right of way and land profession can shape skills that extend far beyond the industry. Ron shares his journey from early days in surveying to enrolling in the land agent program at Olds College, and eventually building a career across major organizations, including Amoco and Gulf Canada. His story highlights how adaptability and a willingness to step outside comfort zones can open doors and accelerate professional growth in land acquisition and right-of-way careers. One thing Chad and Ron focus on is the transferability of skills developed in the land profession. Ron reflects on his experience leading process improvements, building cross-functional relationships, and navigating organizational change, particularly during his time in corporate environments. These experiences strengthened his confidence, communication abilities, and leadership approach, all of which became foundational when launching Land Solutions. Their conversation shows how technical expertise combined with strong interpersonal skills can elevate both individual careers and organizational performance within the right of way industry. Ron also shares insights into his current chapter, where he has “retooled” rather than retired. From nonprofit leadership with the Tanzanian Children's Fund to helping launch a family-run business, Hazel's Ice Cream, Ron demonstrates how the people skills and service mindset developed in land continue to create impact in new arenas. His perspective offers valuable guidance for professionals at any stage, whether entering the industry or transitioning into a new phase, reinforcing that the skills built in right of way, land acquisition, and stakeholder engagement can support a lifetime of meaningful work. “If you know somebody needs something and you can help, you have a responsibility to put those two things together.” — Ron Vermeulen About Ron Vermeulen, P. Land, Founder (retired): Ron Vermeulen founded LandSolutions in 2000 with a clear vision for the company. One where a noticeably different working culture and approach to business created sustainable long-term results for clients. He dedicated his 30+ year career to the land and public involvement in the energy sector. This commitment to the sector ignited his vision for a land company to operate with more impact as he worked his way up through the ranks at exportation and production (E&P) companies, in both surface land, public involvement, and joint interest. This company is LandSolutions as we know it today. During his career, Ron was actively involved in many committees and Board positions while also providing guest instruction at Olds College, the University of Calgary, SAIT, Mount Royal College, as well as several industry-related educational initiatives. Ron still actively contributes as a member of our board and offers his time and energy to numerous charitable and community-based organizations. Ron has his Professional Land Designation (P. Land) - 1996, is a Life Member of CALEP (Canadian Association of Land and Energy Professionals), Honorary Life Member of LEMAC (Land and Energy Management Association of Canada), CALEP Merit Award Recipient, and CALEP Herb Hughes Memorial Award Recipient. --- Ron Vermeulen | P.Land, Founder (retired): LinkedIn Chad Hughes | CEO, Entrepreneurial Leader, Author: Website |LinkedIn Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Stijn Schmitz welcomes back Chris Vermeulen to the show. Chris Vermeulen is Founder & Chief Investment Officer, The Technical Traders. In this episode, Vermeulen provides a comprehensive insights into the current market landscape, focusing primarily on precious metals, equities, and broader economic trends. Regarding precious metals, Vermeulen describes the recent market as experiencing significant volatility, with gold and silver experiencing a massive rally followed by a sharp correction. He notes that while long-term trends remain bullish, short-term signals are mixed and uncertain. The market is currently in a “no man’s land” where investors are waiting to see whether metals will consolidate and launch another rally or experience a substantial pullback. On equities, Vermeulen indicates that markets are precariously balanced. The S&P 500 is “clinging by a thread” to an uptrend, with the Nasdaq showing potential signs of breakdown. He observes that “smart money” is moving into defensive sectors like utilities and consumer staples, suggesting underlying market nervousness. Vermeulen’s investment approach emphasizes technical analysis and following price trends rather than attempting to predict exact market tops and bottoms. Currently, his strategy involves maintaining approximately 70% cash position and waiting for clearer market signals. He believes the market is primed for significant movement, whether upward or downward. Regarding currencies, Vermeulen remains bullish on the US dollar, suggesting it could potentially rally 10-15%, which would put pressure on gold prices. He also highlights the importance of understanding currency movements as part of a comprehensive investment strategy. When discussing other asset classes like oil, copper, and uranium, Vermeulen sees similar patterns of uncertainty and consolidation. His overall message is one of patience: waiting for clear trends to emerge before committing capital, and prioritizing capital preservation over aggressive speculation. “Precious metals are the stars” right now, says Chris Vermeulen. He anticipates a potential market pullback soon, citing a topping pattern. “The AI space has lost a little bit of its shine,” and banks are starting to pull back on loaning money to the sector, he says. His upside target for gold is $5,200 while silver is $106. Chris also highlights less traded metals like platinum. On the other hand, he thinks things are looking bad for crypto, with a bear flag signaling a potential 30% drop. ======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors. Stijn Schmitz welcomes Chris Vermeulen to the show. Chris Vermeulen is Founder & Chief Investment Officer, The Technical Traders. In this episode, Vermeulen provides an in-depth analysis of current market conditions, focusing primarily on precious metals, equities, and potential economic cycles. Chris suggests the precious metals market may be approaching a potential peak, characterized by high volatility and significant price fluctuations. He believes the market is currently experiencing its “last parabolic phase” and warns investors to be cautious. While acknowledging the excitement surrounding precious metals, he emphasizes the importance of having a strategic approach to manage potential risks. A key aspect of Vermeulen’s analysis is the relationship between stock market performance and precious metals. He observes that the stock market, particularly the Magnificent Seven tech stocks, has not yet experienced the significant pullback that typically precedes a precious metals rally. He anticipates that when the equity market begins to sell off, it could trigger a substantial correction in precious metals. Vermeulen recommends a strategy of following price action rather than getting caught up in market narratives. He suggests investors should be prepared to rotate between stocks, bonds, currencies, and cash positions. He is currently bullish on gold, equities, and potentially the US dollar index, while being bearish on oil and energy sectors. Looking ahead to 2026, Vermeulen predicts significant market volatility. He warns that the current low VIX (volatility) index suggests a lack of market fear, which could be a potential warning sign. His analysis indicates that the market might experience a relatively swift pullback, potentially lasting eight to twelve months, which could create opportunities for strategic investors to re-enter markets at more attractive valuations. Ultimately, Chris’s message is about maintaining flexibility, following technical indicators, and being prepared to adapt to changing market conditions. He emphasizes that successful investing is not about predicting exact market tops and bottoms, but about having a disciplined strategy to manage risk and capitalize on market movements. Joe Quinlan, head of market strategy for Merrill Lynch and Bank of America Private Bank, says that the U.S. consumer higher-income households "are in great shape heading into 2026," and so long as the Boomers continue spending, the economy and stock market can roll along. Quinlan says that the economy can avoid a recession if the Federal Reserve can avoid policy mistakes, if the U.S. stays out of a difficult trade war and if the extraneous factors mostly stay at bay. Given what the market has weathered in 2025, Quinlan says there is reason to believe the rally can continue, even if results are muted a bit compared to the equity returns of the last three years. Chris Vermeulen, chief market strategist at The Technical Traders, says that investors should not be fighting current trends, but they should be getting cautious in a market where there's not a lot of upside left this year. He expects January to be a telling month for whether the rally can carry deep into 2026, and says that investors looking for bigger gains can still get in on the gold rally, which Vermeulen says still has 25 to 30 percent upside from current levels. Sandra Block, contributing editor at Kiplinger talks about what she learned about dental care for retirees as she made her own transition toward retirement earlier this year, and the choices consumers face as they weigh Medicare options. And Mark Hamrick discusses a recent BankRate.com survey which found that about half of working American adults expect to be reliant on Social Security benefits to handle necessary expenses when they retire, but more than three-quarters of that working population worries that their promised benefits won't be paid when they reach retirement age.

"I'm looking for a 30% explosion to $5,100 gold by year-end," says Chris Vermeulen, Chief Market Strategist of The Technical Traders. In today's interview with Daniela Cambone, the veteran chartist, who accurately called gold's recent breakout, dissects the "mere three-wave correction" that has spooked momentum traders. He details the "herd mentality" that first drove prices higher and argues this pullback is a classic shakeout before a parabolic surge, drawing direct and "scary" parallels to the 2007 pre-crisis setup.✅ FREE RESOURCESDownload The Private Wealth Playbook — a data-backed guide to strategically acquiring gold and silver for maximum protection, privacy, and performance. Joining me this week is Dr. Peter Vermeulen, psychologist, author, and founder of Autism in Context. Peter has spent more than 35 years helping families, educators, and clinicians better understand autism and what it truly means to live a happy, meaningful life. Together we explore: - Why happiness and well-being deserve as much attention as therapies or interventions for autistic individuals - and what we can learn from autistic people who are thriving. - How reframing "stereotyped interests" as passions and talents can open doors to meaning, confidence, and even careers. - Why predictability is so essential for autistic children's sense of safety and how parents can build that into daily routines and relationships to foster a secure attachment bond. - Just like you feed your child before they get hangry, how parents can "pre-regulate" their child's nervous system throughout the day to prevent overload, meltdowns, and dysregulation. - Why autistic children absolutely do form attachments — and how differences in communication and perception can lead to misunderstandings in connection, not an absence of it. - Practical ways to nurture love and security (Spoiler: things like creating predictable rituals, using concrete symbols, establishing shared routines to strengthen your bond, and more!) Peter's message is both deeply compassionate and hopeful: autistic individuals are capable of happiness, love, and purpose — and when we meet them with curiosity and respect for how their brains see the world, we can help them build lives filled with meaning and joy. Stijn Schmitz welcomes Chris Vermeulen to the show. Chris Vermeulen is Founder & Chief Investment Officer, The Technical Traders. In this in-depth discussion, Vermeulen provides insights into the current state of financial markets, with a particular focus on precious metals, commodities, and potential economic shifts. Vermeulen argues that gold is currently signaling potential economic instability, suggesting we are approaching a significant financial reset. He believes the precious metals market is in a temporary pullback phase, with potential for another substantial rally. Drawing parallels to the 2007-2008 market cycle, he anticipates gold could potentially reach $5,100, representing approximately a 30% move from current levels. His investment strategy, which he calls "asset revesting," focuses on moving capital into assets showing the strongest upward trends with the least risk. Vermeulen emphasizes following price action rather than getting caught up in fundamental narratives, noting that markets have their own psychology and momentum. Regarding other commodities, Vermeulen offers nuanced perspectives. He sees copper in an uptrend but isn't particularly bullish, while he's bearish on oil, predicting it could drop to around $45-$52 per barrel. Interestingly, he sees potential in the US dollar, believing it's positioned for a significant rally that could coincide with a stock market correction. His analysis suggests we're in a late-stage economic cycle characterized by innovation (currently represented by AI stocks) and potential market fragility. He warns investors to be cautious, highlighting that a handful of tech stocks are artificially propping up market indices while many underlying stocks are struggling. Vermeulen recommends investors follow price trends, manage risk carefully, and be prepared to move capital quickly between asset classes. He suggests visiting technicaltraders.com for more detailed market insights and trading signals, where he provides daily market analysis and trade recommendations based on his asset revesting strategy.
“The Magnificent Seven have been dragging the stock market higher, but underneath the hood a lot of stocks are struggling,” says Chris Vermeulen, founder and CIO of TheTechnicalTraders.com. “They're putting in major tops or hitting resistance levels. I do think we could see a huge collapse at any point. We just need some tipping point, some piece of data that could turn the tide.”Looking at patterns from past years, Vermeulen warns: “If the market does roll over here, we can see a very simple repeat where the market drops back to the April lows. That's a good 20 plus percent haircut in price.”Meanwhile, he sees a rare opportunity in gold: “Gold is screaming—it's like something is about to break. Charts point to a 20-plus percent move.”✅ FREE RESOURCESDownload The Private Wealth Playbook — a data-backed guide to strategically acquiring gold and silver for maximum protection, privacy, and performance. Vermeulen introduces his innovative asset revesting strategy, designed to minimize portfolio risk while ensuring consistent growth and income, even in bear markets. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to protect and grow their wealth with a strategy that's both practical and proven, as Vermeulen prepares for an adventurous hike up Kilimanjaro, showcasing the freedom that financial independence can bring.
Chris Vermeulen says the market's price action is what matters most, not Fed Chair Jerome Powell's comments. Vermeulen thinks the market's recent pullback was a buying opportunity, and today's broad rally is a sign of a continued melt-up. He also believes the recent defensive flows into sectors like utilities and healthcare were a sign of fear that has now turned into FOMO buying. He remains bullish on the market, but sees a potential correction on the horizon for the energy sector, specifically in the XLE.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Tom welcomes back Chris Vermeulen, the founder of The Technical Traders, to discuss the highly volatile year of 2025 so far. He notes that volatility has been extreme across various asset classes, driven by factors like geopolitical tensions, AI advancements, and fears of an impending recession. Vermeulen emphasized that while day traders thrive in such environments due to significant intraday swings, swing traders face increased risks with massive price gaps. Long-term investors should prioritize capital preservation by moving to cash until market clarity emerges, as he believes a bear market has already begun. He warned against the "buy the dip" mentality, especially for those nearing retirement, cautioning that this approach could lead to significant losses in a prolonged bear market. Vermeulen points out key indicators of an impending financial reset, including economic data showing hiring declines and rising unemployment, as well as housing market corrections with inventories soaring. Gold was discussed as a safe haven asset, though Vermeulen cautioned about potential pullbacks. He suggested that gold miners could offer better opportunities once the market stabilizes. Seasonality plays a role in his analysis, noting that stock markets typically struggle post-May, aligning with his bearish outlook. Real estate was also addressed, with Vermeulen predicting price drops of 15-20% and warning about the broader economic impact as housing values decline. He highlighted the psychological effect on investors when their largest asset depreciates, potentially leading to panic selling across markets. The U.S. dollar's potential strength was discussed, with Vermeulen suggesting it could rally in a risk-off environment.
