Joe Quinlan, head of market strategy for Merrill Lynch and Bank of America Private Bank, says that the U.S. consumer higher-income households "are in great shape heading into 2026," and so long as the Boomers continue spending, the economy and stock market can roll along. Quinlan says that the economy can avoid a recession if the Federal Reserve can avoid policy mistakes, if the U.S. stays out of a difficult trade war and if the extraneous factors mostly stay at bay. Given what the market has weathered in 2025, Quinlan says there is reason to believe the rally can continue, even if results are muted a bit compared to the equity returns of the last three years. Chris Vermeulen, chief market strategist at The Technical Traders, says that investors should not be fighting current trends, but they should be getting cautious in a market where there's not a lot of upside left this year. He expects January to be a telling month for whether the rally can carry deep into 2026, and says that investors looking for bigger gains can still get in on the gold rally, which Vermeulen says still has 25 to 30 percent upside from current levels.   Sandra Block, contributing editor at Kiplinger talks about what she learned about dental care for retirees as she made her own transition toward retirement earlier this year, and the choices consumers face as they weigh Medicare options. Ze schitterden door hun afwezigheid: bij de Tweede Kamerverkiezingen van 29 oktober bleef 20% van de kiezers thuis. In buitenwijken van gemeenten als Rotterdam of Almere vond slechts 63,5% van de kiezers hun weg naar de stembus. Maar de opkomst is niet het grootste probleem, ontdekten journalist Froukje Santing en wetenschapper Floris Vermeulen. Het zijn specifieke groepen die hun stem structureel niet uitbrengen. Vooral jongeren, mensen met een migratie-achtergrond en laagopgeleiden doen aan stemverzuim. Het gevolg? Een vicieuze cirkel waarin afgehaakten niet stemmen, waardoor ze minder vertegenwoordigd worden in de politiek, waardoor ze weer minder gaan stemmen. Die politieke stembusmijding is trouwens erfelijk: jongeren die het belang van stemmen van huis uit niet meekrijgen, blijven tijdens verkiezingen zelf ook liever thuis. Gelukkig zijn er oplossingen, zien Santing en Vermeulen: vooral bij jongeren onder de 18 valt nog flinke winst te behalen. Irma vertelt over de opening van de meest recente tentoonstelling, met een werk van Alex da Corte, getiteld BAM! BAM! BAM! De expositie is een samenwerking met Sadie Coles HQ, in het kader van EENWERK HELLO. Dit is een nieuw initiatief, onderdeel van de vier tentoonstellingen die jaarlijks gemaakt worden, waarin Irma een werk wil tonen in coöperatie met een internationale galerie. Zij vertelt dat Julius' grote kracht als galerist was om bezoekers te blijven verbazen. Grote namen en onbekende namen wisselden elkaar af in de 48 tentoonstellingen die hij in zeven jaar samenstelde. Door zijn keuzes creëerde hij een verrassend diagram met uitschieters, aldus Irma. Ter ere van Julius maakte zij dit voorjaar de tentoonstelling 'I'm still here', een uitspraak die hij deed op zijn laatste dag. Het ene werk (naast poëzie van zijn ouders en foto's) dat werd getoond waren twee klokken die in het begin dezelfde tijd aangeven maar steeds meer uit elkaar gaan lopen. 'Perfect Lovers' heet dit werk van Felix Gonzales Torres, waarbij de klokken uiteraard Julius en Irma symboliseerden.Naast het runnen van galerie EENWERK is Irma vooral boekenmaker. Het pand van EENWERK en Irma Boom Office lopen in elkaar over.Op dit moment werkt ze aan verschillende boeken; voor Tilda Swinton, voor een tentoonstelling in Eye, voor Steve McQueen en voor Nick Cave. Irma ontwerpt voor Het Rijksmuseum en ze werkt nu aan een boek en tentoonstelling voor het Japanse Muji in Tokyo. Werken doet zij het liefst 's nachts, in absolute stilte. Die concentratie is nodig, want elk boek is anders, zij werkt niet routineus. Een proces waarin zij telkens weer opgaat en waar zij in deze aflevering uitgebreid over vertelt. Een aflevering over analoog werken, intuïtie en over een maakproces als zoektocht waarvan je niet weet waar het zal eindigen. Althans, aan het einde ligt daar altijd 'dat ding', in Irma's woorden. Dat boek, die ene unieke publicatie. Mooi of lelijk, dat maakt niet uit, want het komt van binnenuit.

El DTM vivió un fin de semana vibrante en el Red Bull Ring. El sábado, Rene Rast se llevó la victoria tras un final dramático en el que Jack Aitken perdió el podio en la última vuelta, dejando a Marco Wittmann 2º y Thierry Vermeulen 3º. El domingo, Ricardo Feller dio la sorpresa y consiguió su primera victoria del año con Audi, aprovechando los errores de Rast y la mala suerte de Aitken. Vermeulen terminó 2º y Lucas Auer 3º, resultado que le devolvió el liderato del campeonato. "What's coming up is gonna destroy millions—tens of millions—of retirees' retirements if they are not careful,” warns Chris Vermeulen, founder and chief investment officer at TheTechnicalTraders.com. In an interview with Daniela Cambone, he lays out a highly bearish outlook for financial markets, forecasting a severe economic downturn that he believes could rival or surpass the 2008 financial crisis. “To me, it looks like a stage four, which is a financial reset—kind of like the tech bubble, the 2008 financial crisis."Vermeulen predicts the S&P 500 could decline by as much as 47–55%, echoing the scale of past collapses. He also sees gold as a critical indicator of systemic risk and growing investor fear. "We're seeing a big movement into gold because you're getting out of the financial system. Cherise Vermeulen, Executive Director of Generous Generations, had several childhood experiences that radically impacted her faith and her understanding of generosity. At the age of six, she woke from a coma following a severe car accident, where she felt the healing touch of prayer. This life-altering event left her with visible scars, but it also prompted her to explore her identity in Christ and discover her intrinsic value. Later, as the recipient of an incredibly generous gift, Cherise came to recognize the immense impact of generosity in changing the course of someone's life.   Through these experiences and Cherise's background in children's educational television, God laid the foundations for Generous Generations, which now provides generosity programming, videos, and content for children and youth across 26 different countries.
