In this transparent and compelling episode, host Maggie Shea visits East Leaf Dispensary, a woman- and family owned, New York State licensed adult-use cannabis retailer in Cheektowaga, NY. Maggie sits down with co-owner, Gina Miller, and team member, Taylor Smith, to dive deep into the real Pain Points of navigating a brand-new cannabis dispensary from scratch. From opening a thriving liquor store to opening one of Buffalo's first fully legal dispensaries, Gina and Taylor share the ups and downs of launching a cannabis business — all while combatting stigma, building customer trust, educating first-time buyers, and managing shifting state regulations. We cover: The legacy-to-legal journey and what it really took to launch Pain Points of misinformation, compliance chaos, and stigma How East Leaf educates customers overwhelmed by 500+ brands Creating community connections in a misunderstood environment The reality of vendor selection, inventory decisions, and product variety Competing with the illicit market while staying compliant and transparent Supporting small NYS cultivators and staying rooted in WNY values Building a team that represents the brand — and the community Whether you're cannabis-curious, an industry insider, or simply love a great small business story, this episode highlights resilience, grit, and purpose in action.

Wayland Brewing Now Offering Flights Wayland Brewing has introduced beer flights—four 4oz pours for $11. It's a great way to explore their lineup, including their newest lagers. La Biere, a collab with Moriarty Meats, is brewed with French malt and Strisselspalt hops, offering floral and citrus aromas with a crisp, bready finish. Analog, a Czech Pilsner, is also now available in cans, on draft, and on side-pull at the taproom. Both are light, clean, and perfect for summer.Hofbrauhaus to Tap Hopfenweizen for June On June 5, Hofbrauhaus Buffalo will tap their seasonal Hopfenweizen. This 6.5% hazy wheat beer features a thick white head and notes of orange and pineapple, balanced by a clean, bitter finish. It's brewed with Citra, El Dorado, and Simcoe hops, along with their traditional hefeweizen yeast. The Buffalo Beer League will be on hand for the ceremonial barrel tapping and parade. For that night only, Stein Club memberships will be $149. Reserve at www.hofbrauhausbuffalo.com.Wine, Wags & Brews Fundraiser – June 11 The SPCA Serving Erie County is hosting Wine, Wags & Brews on June 11 (5–8pm) at 300 Harlem Rd., West Seneca. This pet-friendly event will include beer, cider, food trucks, bakeries, raffles, and pet-themed vendors. GA tickets are $45, VIP $75 (includes early entry and appetizers), and DD tickets are $25. This is your last chance to get it; it won't be brewed again.PakTek Recycling at Buffalo Brewing Got a pile of plastic can carriers? Buffalo Brewing Company has a bin in their taproom for collecting PakTech holders, which they sort, clean, and reuse—or return for proper recycling. According to PakTech, efforts like this have diverted over 80 million pounds of plastic since 2012.Waldfest Returns – July 20 Waldfest: Festival in the Woods returns July 20 (12–7pm) at Spring Garden Park in East Aurora. Key Takeaways: Real estate investing allows for flexibility, but success requires systems and processes. Partnering with trusted individuals can accelerate portfolio growth. Living below your means early on provides freedom to take investment risks. Scaling too fast without proper infrastructure can create major stress. Investing should align with personal lifestyle and long-term goals—not just unit counts. Topics: From Accounting to Real Estate Left her accounting career after realizing it wasn't the right fit. Took an unexpected opportunity to manage a 40-unit apartment complex. Learned property management through hands-on experience, growing to 80 units. Building a Real Estate Portfolio Partnered with a childhood friend's son for her first duplex investment. Focused on buying small, manageable properties before scaling up. Expanded her portfolio to over 30 units while managing properties full-time. Lessons in Scaling and Outsourcing Realized she was doing too much alone and needed better delegation. Experimented with third-party property management, which led to major challenges. Brought management back in-house using virtual assistants and improved processes. Aligning Investing with Lifestyle Goals Initially hustled hard but later shifted focus to more time with family. Prefers a “small but mighty” portfolio over constant expansion. Invests strategically in flips and select buy-and-hold properties.

Good morning and happy Monday! This morning we have a special program for you. It was our pleasure to visit East Aurora High School for the Tomcat Mega Meet, a great showcase of student cadets and schools across the state that come together to compete in various military drills and activities. It was very impressive to witness the different students work together and also represent their respective military branches. But that's not all! We also spoke with the Chiefs and to get their feelings on the day's activities and the future of the program. Lastly, we talked to Mr. Dick Schindel, founder of Dick's Mini Donuts, LLC! Good morning Aurora would like to say "thank you" to East Aurora School District 131 for their continued support of our program and to the families of the student cadets across the state. Special shout-outs also go to Cadets Bustamante and Vargas, Master Chief Rushing, Chief Farmer and Mooseheart. Enjoy this episode! Have a great rest of the day!
