The Ratten Expedition by David A. HornungThe Ratten Expedition unfurls a steampunk adventure that begins in the East and travels to the Wild West. Technology has advanced rapidly in an alternate-reality world where the American Civil War lasted ten years. A decade after the guns of the South were silenced, the embers of war still burn white hot. English Canada and French Mexico still snarl at the Union, but a new terror faces the country. Former Union Army officer John Morton, now a museum professor, is recruited by his old army comrade, a Catholic priest, to find missing parishioners. As they will learn, the solution to the riddle is only the start of a cross-country adventure. Recruited to join a diverse undercover government team, Civil War veteran Morton joins a priest, a beautiful female assassin, a black tinker, and an orphaned girl in the race to find a way to preserve the Union. Can Morton survive long enough to stop a pair of mad renegade scientists hell-bent on the destruction of the Union?David (Dave) Hornung holds a BS & master's degree in mechanical engineering, a doctorate in environmental engineering, and several other social and physical science degrees. He is a licensed professional engineer in New York State. David has served on the boards of several technical societies and is still active. After working for twenty-five years in the chemical process industry, he retired. He also worked for the Municipal Housing Authority and later for the Department of Public Works for the City of Buffalo, New York. During his tenure, he served as the city engineer. David spent many years teaching engineering as an adjunct professor at Niagara County Community College and Erie Community College. He has also held various other positions, including working as an airport police officer, a chaplain's assistant, and a museum docent. David is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. He holds a MA in pastoral ministry at Christ the King Seminary (cks.edu) in East Aurora, New York, near Buffalo. A longtime ham radio operator (WB2SQR), miniature war gamer, model railroader, and avid history buff, including many years as a Civil War reenactor (A Co. 28th NY Infantry & A Co. 15th NY Volunteer Engineers). Hornung is happy to call Buffalo, New York, his hometown. David lives in a house filled with memories of his late wife and a cat. He believes that the stories about Buffalo having a lot of snow are exaggerated, as cities like Rochester and Syracuse get more snow but have better public relationhttps://www.amazon.com/Ratten-Expedition-David-Hornung-ebook/dp/B0793PN7JJ/https://www.davidahornung.com/http://www.ReadersMagnet.com   http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/102623dhrm.mp3

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University At Buffalo (NY), and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, NY. She is a former Chaplain and is currently a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Charity Parish where, ironically, the Church windows depict the Vatican II Council. One window represents the “Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World,” which includes an article that speaks directly to ending sexual discrimination of all kinds in our Church. In this time of Church upheaval, O'Connor, as author of Scandal in the Shadows, has uncovered secrets which were conveniently buried away in hopes they would never see the light of day. Enter Margaret Mary O'Connor. O'Connor literally “walks the walk” on picket lines to help keep this issue of Women's Ordination in the forefront of Catholics' minds. She also pickets for Church accountability on the priest sexual-abuse issue. As a fellow member of the Laity, herself, she believes any Catholic, deserves at minimal at least the truth from Rome, as opposed to the continual outright deception they are receiving. She also is a member of Call to Action, Future Church, Roman Catholic Women Priests, the Women's Ordination Conference, the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests (SNAP), Preservation Buffalo Niagara and Western New York Land Conservancy and Buffalo Central Terminal. Margaret truly encountered a life-altering experience she will never forget. Living twenty years with an undiagnosed autoimmune disease, her life was literally hell. Beyond the daily physical symptoms to deal with, were the emotional ones as well. She was told by two doctors that basically her physical symptoms of vomiting, great loss of weight, anemia, and diarrhea (to name a few) were all in her head. The doctor she really needed to see, they told her, was a Psychiatrist. It's truly a miracle she is alive today, thanks to finally finding a doctor who actually ordered tests to find the reason for her illness – which turned out to be celiac disease. She will never forget when her doctor told her she would have been “six feet under” within six months. Her twin-sister Pat, had brain cancer, and never got to have that second chance at life. But Margaret feels incredibly fortunate to have her life back again. It's like she is seeing life from a new and different perspective, and every moment has become wonderfully precious. All she knew was that after losing twenty years of her life to sickness, to now being free to begin again was incredible. Today she lives life to the fullest and her latest adventure is writing, something she had never done before. She knows from experience that having her own story ignored is the reason she brings a visceral passion to her writing. If one side of a story is ignored, you will miss its reality and truth. Her book “Scandal in the Shadows,” brings forth the very truth of a Church issue which indeed will impact on your own future faith life. When not writing, speaking or being interviewed by the media, O'Connor enjoys gardening, and reading mystery books, along with volunteering for Pete's Pillows and Alzheimer's events. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wvuncommonplace/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wvuncommonplace/support

Have women always been forbidden from serving as priests? Or is the Church's current ruling on the issue little more than a cover-up? These questions finally came into focus for Margaret Mary O'Connor when, well into her adult life, she John Wijngaards' 2001 book The Ordination of Women in the Catholic Church. O'Connor is a life-long, devout Catholic, who always questioned the muted role women were allowed to play in her Church. She always suspected there might be more (or less) to the arguments the Church made about the ordination of wome, and Wjingaard's book sent her down a research rabbit hole which ultimately led to her publishing her own conclusions in her book Scandal in the Shadows: The Original Priest - Mother Mary. O'Connor has since dedicated her time to vocally, openly championing the ordination of Catholic women, and to exposing the sexual abuse scandal that continues to cast a shadow over the institution she loves. She holds a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry, from Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, New York and is a a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Charity Parish in Buffalo, New York. Margaret has her own beliefs. She is upset with Catholic Churches because she found out the truth. Margaret Mary O'Connor has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from the University of Buffalo, and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry, from Christ the King Seminary, in East Aurora, NY. She is a former Chaplain and currently is a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Charity Parish in Buffalo, NY. She literally walks the walk, on picket lines to help keep the issues of Women's Ordination and Church Accountability on the Priest Sexual Abuse Issue, at the forefront of any Catholic's attention. Margaret Mary is the recipient of the Special Award for Achievement from the Dale Carnegie Public Speaking Course. She also enjoys gardening, Pilates and reading mystery books. Margaret Mary O'Connor, as a member of the Catholic Laity, thought she knew everything about the Catholic Church, at least until she came upon a centuries-old Scandal of lies and cover up by the Hierarchy of that Church. Fed up with being lied to by her own Church about its past Church's history on Women priests, she knew she had found her calling. With this realization, she committed her life to revealing a truth most Catholics know nothing about. Follow Margaret, as she travels down the Highway of Radical Truth, where lies and outright cover-up will be disclosed. Millions of Catholics are unaware of that past presence of Women Bishop's Women Deacons as well as Women Priests all there hiding in plain sight, in early Church History. As the complicity of this centuries-old Scandal continues, Margaret wants her fellow Catholics to learn the actual truth of this matter for themselves. She strongly believes at minimum, any Catholic deserves the actual truth of this matter. To say that change is needed is hardly an understatement. She doesn't let the Church's betrayal stop her from uncovering some very fascinating Church Skeletons. One's which very well might help solve our current priest shortage issue today. To some, Church history might sound dry or even boring. One would guess that it depends on what skeletons are discovered in the closets of our Church's past history. Scandal in the Shadows goes deep into the deceit of the church in a way no other book, or author, dares. Author, Margaret Mary O'Connor, uncovers threads of early Church History, which very well might hold the answer to helping begin to solve our current priest shortage in the Catholic Church. Millions of Catholics are unaware of the past presence of Women Bishops, Women Deacons and Women Priests in their Church's history. How could you know, when your own Church never disclosed the actual truth of this matter to you?Scandal in the Shadows focuses in on something unbelievably incredible which took place in the early history of the Catholic Church, the existence of Mary Priest, otherwise known as Mary Mother of God. Margaret specifically structured this book to allow you, the readers, to delve into Church history you never knew existed. Who exactly is this woman, known as Mary Priest? What is her connection to any Catholic women's lost religious heritage today? This book will ignite a Global discussion amongst the Laity of our Church, to again honor Mary Priest, otherwise known as Mary Mother of God. Margaret Mary’s journey into the history of the church began decades ago when she realized a huge truth had been buried away from the general public. During our conversation, Margaret Mary shares some of the experiences she had when a hospital Chaplin, run-ins with the law and FBI and why she is so driven to reveal the truth about how women are not treated as equals by the “powers that be” in the Church. Margaret Mary recalls one run in. “During the last St. Patrick’s Day, a former FBI agent who was hired by the Diocese of Buffalo tried to get the best of me. There were two policemen who were on either side of my shoulders.  corner of my eye there was two policemen that were on either side of my shoulders. There were policemen behind me as well as in front of me. It was really jarring.” Our conversation revealed so much more than I anticipated. You will learn insights about the Catholic Church that have been buried away for hundreds of years. “Most people have no idea of the history of the church and that women had positions of power.” Margaret Mary shares the process she went through to write Scandal in the Shadows, including when she wanted to give up because she questioned her right to tell the story in such detail. Discover what happened when Margaret Mary visited a psychic to dig deep into whether or not she should write the book. Find out what her concerns are now that the book is published. Knowing the story must be told keeps her moving forward. The book is the truth revealed and the lies exposed. Her book is an extension of her life’s work. Margaret Mary is committed to taking her message near and far. She is available for speaking engagements, interviews and guest appearances about the book and subject matter. About the book Scandal in the Shadows focuses in on something unbelievably, incredible, which took place in the early History of the Catholic Church, the existence of Mary Priest, otherwise known as Mary Mother of God. Millions of Catholics are unaware of the past presence of Women Apostles, Women Bishops, Women Deacons, and Women Priests, in their Church's History. How could you know, when your own Catholic Church never disclosed the actual truth of this matter to you? Explicitly absent from this book is any type of fabricated conjecture. Instead, its facts are backed up from Biblical research providing you the reader, with the actual truth, rather than the lies and deception you currently receive from your Church hierarchy. To some, ancient controversial knowledge might at first seem Scandalous, but it is there where you will find the Historical Truth of the Women Priest Ordination Issue. Scandal in the Shadows is written from the perspective of a lay Catholic Woman's realization that she was being lied to about her own Church's past History involving Women Priest's. As the complicity of this centuries old Scandal, continues on she wants her fellow Catholics to learn the actual truth of this matter for themselves. This hands-on-book is meant to be a travel guide tool, to enhance the readers own travel back into the early History of the Catholic Church. You are afforded a journey into a discovery of fascinating proportion, you will be surprised by the thought provoking past History of your own Catholic Church, view your own Church, like you have never before done. Who knew, that the solutions to today's Catholic Church Issues, may very well be solved from utilizing our Church's past History. Who is the book for? Scandal in the Shadows is geared specifically for the Laity of the Catholic Church. It asks the questions that our Church hierarchy's selective memory, will not answer for you. Their memory issue indeed, leaves all of us with more unanswered questions to deal with. What do we really know? And what has our Church conveniently not been telling us? Where can we find the truth today? Why exactly is it, that our hierarchy will not even acknowledge their own Church's past history? If ever there was a time, where Catholics needed Jesus' honesty, and transparency, now is that time. Why have the Church Fathers not been open and transparent with the Laity of their Church for centuries? So where is the truth to be found? It resides with in the skeletons found in the Church's own closets. With their appearance, History's truth will finally come out of the dark to be seen in the light of day. Author and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Charity Parish, Margaret Mary O'Connor, nods in agreement when podcast hosts ask her if she is the “modern day David ready to slay Goliath,” with her newly released book, Scandal in the Shadows, The Original Priest, Mother Mary Quiet and humble by nature, the author has made it her mission to reveal the truth of Your Catholic Church. After years of research, Ms. O'Connor has painstakingly chronicled the oppression of women priests, dating back centuries. “Do you consider yourself to be the modern day David?” asks hosts near and far. With no hesitation, in a tone that would be approved in any church setting, she smiles and says, “Absolutely!” Margaret Mary O'Connor holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University At Buffalo (NY), and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, NY.
