Today I speak to Jason O'Connell, CEO and Founder of Galway Bay Brewery. In this conversation you will hear how he is a true entrepreneur who values innovation over anything else. It was a pleasure to chat to him about how he managed to turn an idea into an international business.Galway Bay Brewery Instagraminstagram.com/galway_bay_brewery/Jason O'Connell's Instagraminstagram.com/galwaybayjason/Our Instagram Pageinstagram.com/a_life_in_dublin/ Hosted on Acast. Damian Browne is a unique human being. He has chosen to spend his life taking on some of the worlds toughest challenges. This is Damians third time on the podcast and this episode is unique, the first was after he rowed for the first time across the Atlantic Ocean, and the second was the very first interview for Project Empower We met in Damian's native home town Galway on the west coast of Ireland in the Dew Drop Inn and thanks to Galway Bay Brewery for organising some space for us and we spoke about everything, from his emotional experience over the 112 days on the ocean to the challenge of losing his rowing partner on day 13 and he speaks openly and honestly as always. I ask Damian about the life of an adventurer and how people may perceive it to be a selfish lifestyle especially with a young family and we delve into the emotions of that and what it means to him and his wonderful partner and child. Damian is a man who meets challenge head on while accepting the importance of showing vulnerability and emotion. He see this as a massive strength and something we can all work on developing. Damian also believes that the mind can push the body through far more struggle than we realise and he taps into some of the times on the ocean when he needed to. We speak about his hallucinations, dealing with loss, the crew and people in the background that took the brunt of his frustrations in their stride and we regaled the funny story around the moment he tried to pull away from New York harbour and instead rowed towards it. This is episode is long, but fruitful. It is two friends sharing a beer, exploring a world that so many of us will never experience, yet for Damian Browne, he has conquered the ocean twice and earned time now to take a breath and reap some of the rewards from his gallant efforts. This episode is full of emption, honesty and without a doubt a deep insight into the mind of Ireland's ultimate adventurer - @AuldStock - Damian Browne. My name is Eoghan Walsh from Brussels Beer City, and you’re listening to episode 20 of Cabin Fever - less a podcast than a group therapy session for writers, brewers, and friends who like to enjoy a beer together but, well, can’t.I was delighted to be joined remotely in Brussels by:Matthew Curtis (@totalcurtis), co-founder of Pellicle magazine, where he is also the beer and cider editor, and is an award-winning writer and photographer in his own right,Jeff Alworth (@beervana), co-host of the Beervana podcast and author of several beer books including The Secrets of the Master Brewers and The Beer Bible,And Melissa Cole (@MelissaCole), award-winning writer and author of, among other books, including The Beer Kitchen.Over beers from Galway Bay Brewery, Wayfinder, Deya, and Big Drop, we talked about how much the world has changed in the past three months, bewilderment at the speed of that change, and optimism about the future - even if it seems grim right now.I hope you listen in, for one last time.
James is back from NZ and Fabian is off to Japan so while everyone is in Ireland we sit down to discuss bizzarre Bond-related movie 'Operation Kid Brother', animation 'Ruben Brandt, Collector' and feedbackateer conversation starters as tensions run high!
Before we get started today I want to tell you about a couple of upcoming GBH events happening right here in London this September. First up, we’re incredibly excited to be bringing New Belgium’s wonderful sours to British shores for the first ever time, in an event called Into the Wild. They’ll be pouring their 2018 iterations of Le Terroir, Transatlantique Kriek and, of course, La Folie, alongside some incredible cheeses selected by Cheesemonger Ned Palmer, meats from The Charcuterie Board and sourdough from Bread by Bike. We’ve also hand picked a small selection of brewers, cider makers and winemakers to pour alongside them, in an effort to showcase all things delicious and fermentation driven—and crucially—what they all have in common. Along with New Belgium themselves we’ll be joined by, Burning Sky, Cloudwater, Beavertown’s Tempus Project, Boundary, Oliver’s Cider and Perry and New Zealand’s Garage Project, who’ll be bringing natural wines from their Crushed series. It’s happening on September 5th at the Beer Merchants Tap in Hackney, and I hope to see some of you there. We’re also busy prepping for this year’s Beavertown Extravaganza. We’ll be there again this year with two days worth of panel talks happening over the course of both sessions on the 7th and 8th of September. A few tickets are still available, but they’re selling fast, so head over to beavertownbrewery.co.uk to grab yours now, and we’ll see you there. Now onto this week’s episode—an experiment of sorts that ended up being a lot of fun to record. A couple weeks back I travelled to Sligo, on the West Coast of Ireland to visit The White Hag brewery, which happened to be celebrating its fourth birthday with its annual Hagstravaganza Festival. I can’t tell you how many emails and tweets I’ve had over the years from Irish beer lovers asking me when I was going to visit and experience the Emerald Isle’s thriving beer culture for myself. So, while at the festival, I tried to capture as much of that culture as possible in a series of shorter interviews. I hope you’ll agree that the passion, and enthusiasm for Irish beer is infectiously evident in each one of them. Over the next couple of hours you’ll hear from The White Hag’s head brewer, Joe Kearns. Tom Delaney, head brewer at Galway Bay Brewery, and his own mixed-fermentation project Land and Labour. Cormac Wall, an Irishman working for Honest Brew in London, who also recently started contributing to GBH’s b-Roll blog. Wayne and Janice Dunne, who collectively as The Irish Beer Snobs author a blog, and host a podcast of their own. Mark Twig and Maurice Deasy of Canvas Brewery, and Francesca Slattery, of London’s Five Points Brewing Company, who lives in Dublin and works as the brewery’s rep out in Ireland. The Irish beer market is a fascinating one, and also one not without its struggles. It’s an industry dominated by the giants of Heineken and Diageo via its Guinness Brand—the latter going as far as to serve as a core part of this nation’s identity for so many. However, what I found, was that if you scratch below the surface—even just a little—you’ll soon find a thriving set of young, entrepreneurial brewers, each one desperate to prove that the beer scene here is composed of far more than merely “the Black Stuff.” A quick note—this episode was recorded at a working beer festival, so there is some noise. But hopefully that’ll convey how fantastic the atmosphere was at this event.
It’s a beautiful sunny day and we’re live (not really) from the Wickham Tap in Limerick, a new pub from the Galway Bay Brewery. Dave is preparing a talk on Swift Enums and Thomas is half-heartedly Swifting on the server. After two and a half years Apple Pay has finally arrived at our bank and … Continue reading "044 – Live and Dangerous!"

We took the show on the road this week. All the way out to Avondale Estates to the home of Wild Heaven Craft Beers. The folks there were busy, you see. They were brewing a collaboration with a little place from Florida called Cigar City. So we were able to interview two amazing brewers at once - Wild Heaven's Eric Johnson and Cigar City's Wayne Wambles. We talk about Eric's non traditional entry into brewing, Wild Heaven's move to canning, and many more things...including what he and Wayne are cooking up! We'll also learn about the success of Emergency Drinking Beer and crack open a special sour that's in the works. Truck and Tap's Beers of the week included Wild Heaven's Autumn Defense, and a surprise from across the pond. Wayne and the Cigar City crew have spent the last several months traveling around the world, collaborating with brewers. One of their collabs happened to be with Ireland's Galway Bay Brewery, home of friend of the show Wil Avery. We sampled the result - Phaethon IPA - and gave Wayne his first taste as well! In the headlines (sponsored by Your Pie - Perimeter), we talk about Atlanta's newest planned brewpub, headed by former Stone Brewing brewmaster Mitch Steele. Also, Tim talked to Nick Hudson from Albama's Free the Hops, and has an update on the proposed regulations regarding to-go brewery sales. Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast (and leave a review!). Coming up next week, we'll have Cherry Street Brewing Co-Op's Nick Tanner. We'll be on the socials all week long, and we'd love to have you join us. Beer Guys Radio Craft Beer Podcast 038
This weeks episode, is all about Goin' out West. Galway, is a city on the west coast of Ireland, that is world famous for a few things, it's Oyster Festival, it's Arts Festival, and of course the week of the Galway Races each July. Horses, Craic, and Gambling. It's home also to the Galway Bay Brewery, who recently, like many Irish sports teams, athletes, and food producers, have been punching above their weight on an international stage over the years. So much so they took home Bronze for their Sweet Milk Stout, Buried at Sea at the recent World Beer Cup. Those who fancied a flutter before hand could have even got the inside line if they found this article in time! It seems that every year when the Galway Bay Brewery bus tour was on, Janice & I would always be away. So it was just our luck this year when we were able to go on this years trip. So in this podcast, we're going to taste this award winning beer, and chat about the latest news in the Irish Beer Scene, and our most recent #Hopical topic. The link to the World Beer Awards winners is here

Spring lamb & Turkey dominate the tables, along with that armageddon stockpile of easter eggs from this years 40 days & 40 nights of the Easter Season. We are not the gentrified around a Seasonal Hunt table. We are the average craft beer drinkers. More importantly, drinkers of Irish Craft Beer. Trying to figure out what beers to have with our Easter Sunday Roast should be no more complex than Cinderlla figuring out what to wear to the ball. Am I your Easter Beer Fairy Godmother? F**k no, but for Episode 16, I'm your Easter Sunday Irish Craft Concierge hooking you up with with the best Irish & International craft beers for your Easter Sunday.
