R&B and funk had been slow to take off in Australia, but when those genres really started to be embraced locally in the mid-'90s, a four-piece boy band from Melbourne were perfectly placed to become this country's pre-eminent vocal harmony group. All four original members of CDB (Andrew De Silva, Gary and Brad Pinto, and Danny Williams) join us to talk about how they slogged away on a scene that was just starting to take off and how a break providing backing vocals for Peter Andre was crucial in them securing their own record deal with Sony Music. With songs written by Andrew as a teenager, CDB were teamed up with established artists Paul Gray (from Wa Wa Nee) and Rockmelons to shape their sound into something commercial, with hits "Hook Me Up" and "Hey Girl (This Is Our Time)" following. But it was a remake of "Let's Groove" which propelled the group into the big league, with solid sales for debut album Glide With Me as a result. Second album Lifted, which showed a maturing of CDB's material with more songwriting input from other members, didn't perform as well despite featuring stellar tracks like "Good Times" and "Back Then". This was followed by Andrew's cancer diagnosis and departure from the group, and a missed opportunity for the second line-up, resulting in them disbanding. Kyrie Anderson is one of Adelaide’s, if not Australia’s, most sought-after drummers. After completing a Jazz Performance degree at The University of Adelaide, Kyrie graduated with First Class Honors in 2014. While still at University, Kyrie toured Australia, Canada, and the UK with the 'Bearded Gypsy Band' and has since toured Europe three times with Kaurna Cronin. In 2018 Kyrie worked with Luke Creswell, the creator of 'STOMP', as Percussion Director for his Adelaide Festival performances of "The Lost and Found Orchestra." Kyrie has also toured nationally as Musical Director for "Songs and Times" with Sam Cooke starring Gary Pinto; headlined the Royal Croquet Club with Russian feminist group 'Pussy Riot'; and performed with national and international jazz musicians at Adelaide Town Hall’s International Jazz Day, and at Melbourne’s Stonington Jazz Festival. Garry Pinto is considered one of the greatest Soul and R&B Singers that Australia has produced. His musical background includes fronting the multi platinum selling band, CDB, widely regarded as pioneers of R&B music in Australia, and he has also written songs for a number of Australian artists including Jimmy Barnes, Guy Sebastian, Anthony Callea, Christine Anu, Mr Timothy and Jade Mcrae, He has mentored many of Australia's recording artists and worked as X Factor Australia's Vocal Director, and has also worked on many of Australia's other music television shows, including, ‘The Voice', and, ‘All Together Now.' A well as charity work, being a father and being a husband, Gary is currently touring with, ‘The Songs and Times of Sam Cooke',  and is also part Tina Arena's and Guy Sebastian's touring bands. Andrew De Silva, brothers Gary and Brad Pinto and Danny Williams formed CDB in 1991 and were signed to Sony Music in their late teens. Their debut album Glide with Me went platinum thanks in part to lead single Let’s Groove, which topped the ARIA chart and was the bestselling Australian single of 1995. At their peak, they supported the likes of Boyz II Men, K-Ci & Jo-Jo, Desiree and Tina Arena on tour.  After breaking up in 1999, Gary Pinto went on to co-write and/or perform with artists including Guy Sebastian, Anthony Callea, Christine Anu, Jimmy Barnes and Taylor Dayne. In August 2010, he released his solo album Take Back Our World featuring the track Saint Mary Mackillop, a song he co-wrote as the 2010 official song for the canonisation of Mary Mackillop. He was also the Vocal Director of Channel Seven’s The X Factor mentoring artists such as Samantha Jade, Dami Im, Will Singe and many more.  Now CDB are back with a new album Tailored For Now, paying homage to their favourite 90's RnB anthems.
