Jeff, Gianna, and Michael explore the challenges and responsibilities of living as a Christian community in today's world. They discuss the importance of embodying the teachings of Jesus, particularly the Sermon on the Mount, and the need to focus on community engagement rather than just individual conversion. They highlight the tension between political power and the cross-shaped life that Jesus exemplified, urging listeners to consider how they can live out their faith collectively in a way that reflects the values of Christ. 00:00 Understanding Exile in the Christian Community03:49 The Dual Nature of Exile15:00 The Exilic Gospel and Community17:05 Jesus and the Subversion of Power29:55 Living Out the Exilic Identity32:51 Building a Christ-Centered Community34:42 The Challenge of Individualism in Faith37:51 Preparing for a Life Together40:52 The Shape of Christian Community42:43 Living as Exiles in a Political World46:45 The Power of the Cross vs. Political Power51:38 Embodying the Teachings of Jesus55:30 Conversion vs. Community Living58:49 Trusting in Christ's Alternative Way of Life

Does the public promotion of Darwin's theory of natural selection match Darwin's own private view of his theory? On this episode of ID the Future out of the archive, historian of science Michael Keas begins a two-part conversation with Robert Shedinger, the Wilford A. Johnson Chair of Biblical Studies and Professor of Religion at Luther College and author most recently of The Mystery of Evolutionary Mechanisms: Darwinian Biology's Grand Narrative of Triumph and the Subversion of Religion. Shedinger reports on the contrast between Darwin's private view of his theory of natural selection and the public view as detailed in his published work. Shedinger also notes the deficiency in evidence for Darwin's proposal, despite claims to the contrary from his followers and evangelizers today. Source

Since 2001, Ron Deibert and his team at the University of Toronto's Citizen Lab have uncovered dozens of covert spy operations around the world, including the creators of the phone hacking spyware, Pegasus, created by the Israeli company, NSO group, whose clients include Saudi Arabia's Mohammed bin Salman, and Rwanda's Paul Kagame. In a wide-ranging discussion, Deibert tells host Steve Paikin about his recent trip to the White House, the impact that the Trump administration's policies will have on cyber security worldwide, and why Canadians ought to be concerned by a bilateral agreement with the U.S. called the Cloud Act. In this conversation, the Eikon team explores the themes of allegiance, exile, and the nature of the church in relation to the kingdom of God. They discuss how the early church navigated political subversion and the implications of living as exiles in a world that often contradicts the values of the kingdom. On this episode, we discuss the philosophical influencers behind the move to subvert our way of life. Who are these people? What is the goal that they have? What should we do to call them out? Also, what effect does this have on our education, our culture and our families? How high up does it go? And, is there a way to stop it? We ask the questions. When we think of weak democracies around the world, we often think of their inability to maintain a monopoly on violence because of challenges outside the state – like militias, rebel groups, criminal gangs, and other external, violent organizations. But sometimes it's actors deeply intertwined with the state – like political parties – who are engaging in the violence. Sometimes, the call is coming from inside the house. Our guest today, Niloufer Siddiqui, an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University at Albany - State University of New York, shares with us insights from her award-winning book Under the Gun: Political Parties and Violence in Pakistan. Exploiting subnational variation within the country, Niloufer asks why Pakistani political parties use violence to achieve their goals in some political contexts but not in others. And when they do strategically decide to use violence, when do they take care of things “in house,” having party cadres carry out violent actions and when do they outsource their “dirty work” to other groups, like gangs and militias?Examining the behavior of several political parties across multiple provinces, Niloufer explains how electoral and economic incentives, the structure of ethnic cleavages, and organizational strength factor into parties' decisions about whether to use violence – and, if so, whether to outsource it or do it themselves. We talk with Niloufer about how she gets at these dynamics by triangulating among survey experiments conducted with voters and elected politicians; about 150 interviews with party officials, journalists, civil society, and police and intelligence officers; and focus groups with party members and voters. Niloufer also tells us how, in doing this work, her own identity as a Muhajir woman gave her special access to one of the major parties she writes about, the MQM party, particularly the female members of the party. Lastly, we take a step back and talk with Niloufer about the ethical implications of her study. We ask her whether, in a fragile democracy like Pakistan, there's some risk in exposing and calling attention to the violent nature of political parties. Might doing so serve to undermine public confidence in the democratic project? Could one unintended consequence of research on democracy's shortcomings be to give actors like the military a convenient excuse to sweep in and push elected politicians aside? This conversation grows out of a podcast series that Phill produced late last year called "How the church was sabotaged", in which he reflected upon a 1980s book by the famous Christian thinker and writer Os Guinness. Though published over 40 years ago, Guinness's "The Gravedigger File: Papers on the Subversion of the Modern Church" caught Phill's attention because of its apparent prescience on a number of important cultural issues facing the church today. So, please join us as I "get in on the conversation", and we discuss what's happened to so many modern churches, and think about ways in which we might "push back" in the culture to reveal the Gospel's "plausibility structure" to church and world alike.
Edythe Mae Gordon (c. 1890-1980) was an African American writer of poetry and short stories during the Harlem Renaissance. Her work was primarily published in the Saturday Evening Quill, a Boston based publication founded by her husband and fellow Harlem Renaissance figure Eugene Gordon. Little is known about her both before or after her marriage to Gordon, but her most famous work is her 1928 short story “Subversion” which was listed among the year’s distinguished stories by the O Henry Award prize committee. As part of the famed cultural and artistic Harlem Renaissance movement, these women found beauty in an often ugly world. History classes can get a bad rap, and sometimes for good reason. When we were students, we couldn’t help wondering... where were all the ladies at? Why were so many incredible stories missing from the typical curriculum? Enter, Womanica. On this Wonder Media Network podcast we explore the lives of inspiring women in history you may not know about, but definitely should. Every weekday, listeners explore the trials, tragedies, and triumphs of groundbreaking women throughout history who have dramatically shaped the world around us. In each 5 minute episode, we’ll dive into the story behind one woman listeners may or may not know–but definitely should. These diverse women from across space and time are grouped into easily accessible and engaging monthly themes like Educators, Villains, Indigenous Storytellers, Activists, and many more. Womanica is hosted by WMN co-founder and award-winning journalist Jenny Kaplan. The bite-sized episodes pack painstakingly researched content into fun, entertaining, and addictive daily adventures. Womanica was created by Liz Kaplan and Jenny Kaplan, executive produced by Jenny Kaplan, and produced by Grace Lynch, Maddy Foley, Brittany Martinez, Edie Allard, Carmen Borca-Carrillo, Taylor Williamson, Sara Schleede, Paloma Moreno Jimenez, Luci Jones, Abbey Delk, Adrien Behn, Alyia Yates, Vanessa Handy, Melia Agudelo, and Joia Putnoi. It's become pretty easy to spot phishing scams: UPS orders you never made, banking alerts from companies you don't bank with, phone calls from unfamiliar area codes. But over the past decade, these scams – and the technology behind them – have become more sophisticated, invasive and sinister, largely due to the rise of something called ‘mercenary spyware.'The most potent version of this tech is Pegasus, a surveillance tool developed by an Israeli company called NSO Group. Once Pegasus infects your phone, it can see your texts, track your movement, and download your passwords – all without you realizing you'd been hacked. We know a lot of this because of Ron Deibert. Twenty years ago, he founded Citizen Lab, a research group at the University of Toronto that has helped expose some of the most high profile cases of cyber espionage around the world.Ron has a new book out called Chasing Shadows: Cyber Espionage, Subversion, and the Global Fight for Democracy, and he sat down with me to explain how spyware works, and what it means for our privacy – and our democracy.Note: We reached out to NSO Group about the claims made in this episode and they did not reply to our request for comment.Mentioned:“Chasing Shadows: Cyber Espionage, Subversion, and the Global Fight for Democracy,” by Ron Deibert“Meta's WhatsApp says spyware company Paragon targeted users in two dozen countries,” by Raphael Satter, ReutersFurther Reading:“The Autocrat in Your iPhone,” by Ron Deibert“A Comprehensive Analysis of Pegasus Spyware and Its Implications for Digital Privacy and Security,” Karwan Kareem“Stopping the Press: New York Times Journalist Targeted by Saudi-linked Pegasus Spyware Operator,” by Bill Marczak, Siena Anstis, Masashi Crete-Nishihata, John Scott-Railton, and Ron Deibert

A new MP3 sermon from Frontline Fellowship is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: USAID funds Perversion & Subversion, Revolutions, Coups, Wars & Pandemics worldwide. Subtitle: Reformation Society Speaker: Peter Hammond Broadcaster: Frontline Fellowship Event: Current Events Date: 2/8/2025 Length: 116 min.
This is our Sunday morning Bible study based on the book "Biblical Critical Theory" by Christopher Watkin and taught by Pastor Taylor Ince.
It's hard to fathom, but in the United States Reformed Christians make up a very small percentage of protestant congregations and congregants. That means that publishing houses that are much bigger than Reformation Heritage books and personalities with a bigger reach than R.C. Sproul exert significant influence over a much broader swath of American evangelicals than small, reformed outfits. One such influential publisher is Zondervan publishers, a media company and printer founded almost a hundred years ago that is the publisher of the popular NIV Bible translation, which has sold over 450 million copies. Zondervan brings in over $100 million annually. Today, Zondervan is publishing their new “Upside-Down Kingdom Bible”. It is edited by none other than Preston Sprinkle, who is an author and speaker that has said in the past that “The church will look more like Jesus if it has more trans people in it, not fewer.” Packed full on contributions from Michael Bird, Jamar Tisby, Francis Chan, and others, this one is sure to leave off your wish list. This episode is brought to you by our premier sponsors, Armored republic and Reece fund, as well as our patreon members and donors. You can join our patreon at https://patreon.com/rightresponseministries or you can donate at https://rightresponseministries.com/donate. Tune in today as we discuss Zondervan's political Bible, Preston Sprinkle, and how to combat the insidious lies of big evangelicalism with Dr. Jared Moore. *MINISTRY SPONSORS:* *Private Family Banking* How to Connect with Private Family Banking: 1. "The absolute key thing which God needs from the Church is a commitment to the Word of God."—Rev Phill Sacre We are joined once again by Rev Phill Sacre—an ordained minister (Church of England), housechurch leader, and blogger on Substack—for a conversation on "Plausibility Structures and the Church." Our conversation grows out of a podcast series that Phill produced late last year called "How the church was sabotaged", in which he reflected upon a 1980s book by the famous Christian thinker and writer Os Guinness. (Phill is a Christian minister. Ordained in the Church of England, he formerly served in a parish on the Essex coast, but now leads an independent housechurch. He also runs the online ministries "Understand the Bible" and "Sacred Musings : Thinking Christianly about the World" on Substack.) [For show notes please visit https://themindrenewed.com]

Joyful Non-Compliance. In this episode of the Voxology Podcast, Mike and Tim discuss the significance of synagogue life during the Jewish exile and how it shaped the identity of the Jewish people. They explore the relationship between Jesus and the Herod family, particularly focusing on Herod the Great's dual legacy as a builder and a tyrant. The conversation delves into the prophetic background surrounding Jesus' birth, the political climate of Judea, and how these elements influenced Jesus' teachings and parables. The episode concludes with reflections on the implications of these historical contexts for understanding Jesus' message. What was the complex dynamics of power during the time of Jesus, particularly the Herodian dynasty and its rulers, including Archelaus, Antipas, and Philip? How did Jesus interact with these figures and how were his teachings a form of subversion against the oppressive systems of power? What is D Willy's concept of 'joyful non-compliance' as a response to authority? How does it contrast with 'fearful compliance' that is prevalent in contemporary society? Ultimately, today's episode calls for a deeper understanding of the Kingdom of God and the active role believers can take in promoting its values in a world often dominated by greed and power struggles. As always, we encourage and would love discussion as we pursue. Feel free to email in questions to hello@voxpodcast.com, and to engage the conversation on Facebook and Instagram. In two related legal developments, Judge Cannon finally relents and paves the way for the public release of Volume 1 of Special Counsel Jack Smith's report, documenting Donald Trump's 2020 election subversion crimes. In a second development, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mays formally requested that the Department of Justice provide Special Counsel Jack Smith's entire file on Trump's election crimes so that evidence can be used in the Arizona state prosecution of Mark Meadows, Rudy Giuliani and the other defendants indicted for trying to undermine the 2020 election results in Arizona. Notably, in the Arizona prosecution, Trump is designated "unindicted co-conspirator 1". Given that the evidence against one co-conspirator is admissible against all co-conspirators, courtesy of the doctrine of co-conspirator liability, when the Arizona case goes to trial in January of 2026, Americans should get to see the evidence of Trump's 2020 election subversion crimes as they pertain to the Arizona charges. If you're interested in supporting our all-volunteer efforts, you can become a Team Justice patron at: / glennkirschner If you'd like to support us and buy Team Justice and Justice Matters merchandise visit:https://shop.spreadshirt.com/glennkir...Check out Glenn's website at https://glennkirschner.com/Follow Glenn on:Threads: https://www.threads.net/glennkirschner2X aka Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/glennkirschner2Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/glennkirschner2Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/glennkirsch...Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/glennkirschn...TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/glennkirschner2See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This week's #machinima short is ridiculous, yep Ridiculous Ties - a meme response to Eltorro64Rus' review of favorite and least favorite words used by the Scientist in Half Life, created by Finzlow. And did we say its ridiculous?! We love the well-crafted humor in this, in-jokes with some of the best timing and inspired editing we've seen for quite some time. Mishandling the California fires and awarding the Medal of Freedom to traitors is further proof that the Communist apparatus is alive and well in America. Many claim it is simply incompetence, but the consistency of its actions proves otherwise. Consistency has never been a virtue of ignorance. When the “mistakes” are always anti-freedom, anti-American, and anti-God, they are clearly the actions of enemies within.

Martial law was declared, and then quickly lifted, in South Korea. The declaration was allegedly clearing the way to root out North Korean subversion throughout the country. It was made by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Dec. 3. The country's parliament voted to end martial law, which was lifted not long after. But the issue still stands over whether the country has been subverted by North Korea, and what may still be done to tackle the issue. We'll discuss this topic and others in this episode of Crossroads. Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and guests and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times. ⭕️
