Grace Judson is a leadership geek and has over 25 years of experience in the corporate world. Passionate about neuroscience, Grace found her calling when she was just two years old, and always knew she wanted people to just stop and see each other. Today, Grace shares how we can introduce better change leadership initiatives into an organization and actually see it through completion. Key Takeaways How did Grace get her start at the age of two? How did Grace get into software development and how did this journey lead her to insurance? When it comes to leadership, Grace wanted to know what made someone really excel in this area. Change leadership is not as well taught or understood in a lot of organizations. How can you leverage neuroscience to help everyone in an organization get on the same page? There are tools for us to understand our reptilian brain and get us doing good work without resistance. Grace shares a tool that helps people get out of an emotionally reactive state. People aren't going to respond well if you just tell them, “This is your job. Get over it.” When does it make sense to become a professional speaker? Grace is passionate about making the workplace more fun and she shares what the three principles of work are. What permission are your words and your actions giving to other people? No matter what, people are watching. Grace shares her thoughts on what the impact of the pandemic will be and how leadership roles will be shifting. Grace's change leadership program was developed before the pandemic, and the timing couldn't have been better. What does Grace wish she'd known earlier about her career? Keep Getting Better Axcoinfo.com Dan on LinkedIn Quotes “Change leadership and change management are two different things. They're both necessary, but neither are sufficient on their own.” “Without the people aspect, which does include neuroscience, without that, change initiatives fail at an alarming rate.” “How we show up as leaders, we're setting an example for people who you may not even realize are watching us.”

Are the rules different for women in leadership? There are two honest answers to this. Yes and there shouldn’t be. If you’re a powerhouse women in leadership or you have goals to move into leadership, you need to understand how the game works. There is the reality we deal with (that the leadership model is predominantly male) and the fact that the best way to change that is from within. If we want to change the world’s view of what a leader looks like (and this sea change is happening) then more women need to step up and challenge the status quo. But, how do you do that when the deck might be stacked against you? My guest today says that women need to walk a tightrope to make their way into leadership. In today’s world (which again, we’re in the process of changing) women need to find that fine point in the middle between being seen as too weak or soft and being too bossy (or the other b word). And while she’s excited to see the changes coming, she’s spent decades helping women navigate this challenging walk. Grace Judson is a leadership coach with decades of experience in leadership. She works with leaders to help them not only understand the road ahead but also in understanding how to work with a team and identify different communications styles. In this episode, she shares amazing insights into how and why we communicate the way we do, the neuroscience behind our communication style, the long-standing male hierarchy at play, and what that all means for our opportunities as leaders. Specifically, she discusses the reality that women face today and we get right into what needs to happen to change this reality so that women are given equal opportunities to lead. Plus, Grace shares how we need to rethink our ideas around acceptance as individuals. And, women need to connect with their authentic selves and love themselves if they ever want to be confident leaders. “In order to be loved you have to be willing to be hated. That’s hard. If you want to lead, you have to be willing to be loved and hated or you’ll just be beige. Beige fades into the background.” That is her challenge to you. Don’t be beige. Learn to be more and accept that that is going to draw more attention and therefore, more strong opinions about what you’re doing. I thoroughly enjoyed my chat with Grace especially when we dug into the neuroscience and social conditioning that most women can actively reprogram to create the opportunities they are looking for as entrepreneurs and leaders. If you are looking to step into your power and want to know how to embrace your authentic self so you can pave the way to being a confident leader, then you don’t want to miss this episode of the Brilliant You podcast. When I was in grad school for arts administration, we learned a basic fact in our fundraising course that I’ve never forgotten: the number one reason people don’t give money to charity is because they aren’t asked. That goes not only for donations, but for raises, for project funds, or any other situation where direct ask has to happen in order for money to change hands. Our question this episode: how do we frame a request for money so that we increase our chances of success? I’m pleased to welcome Grace Judson back to the show for a conversation about something many of us get tied up in knots about: asking for money. Hosted by Beth L. Buelow, PCC. “60% of new leaders fail” Grace Judson is a leadership coach and consultant focusing on first-line and recently-promoted managers and supervisors, helping them cross that daunting gap between being part of a team, and leading a team. Drawing on her 25 years of corporate experience – including 16 years of executive leadership – plus 13 years of leadership coaching, Grace works with individuals, teams, and leaders to develop their skills, helping them become the empowered leaders they want to be – and their teams deserve. Grace points out that she’s not as old as all those years of experience might indicate. After all, she started her career as a two-year-old, turning her parents’ faces toward each other when they argued, wanting them to see each other instead of fighting. That was the beginning of her lifelong quest to understand what makes people tick – and what makes a good, or even great, leader. There’s a time and place for everything, and that includes emotion and intimacy. Most of the time it’s clear when we can show emotion and wear our heart on our sleeve. But sometimes, especially in professional environments, it can be more challenging to know how to respond when a clear need for empathy presents itself. We want to connect as human beings while still respecting boundaries. What’s a healthy way to walk that line with people we care about? Leadership Coach Grace Judson joins to me to discuss this and more. Hosted by Beth L. Buelow, PCC.
