In recapping the benefits of stupas and the mantras to fill them, Rinpoche advises not to put all kinds of things inside the stupa, such as incomplete Dharma texts or wrong-view texts. He says that we need to be careful because what you put inside a stupa affects the monastery, nunnery, center, or family. It's also necessary to check what kind of person made the offering. If it comes from someone who has broken samaya with the guru, many others will lose faith.Rinpoche emphasizes that everything must be neat with the filling of different mantras in different parts of the stupa. The mantras should not be upside down as this can cause obstacles. The print should be perfectly clear without any smudges. Additionally, the person filling the stupa should be a devoted practitioner.Rinpoche recites the Requesting Prayer to the Lineage Lamas and clarifies some of the translations. In particular, he queries the use of ‘as' in the phrase, ‘to see the guru as Buddha'.Rinpoche explains that when ringing the bell at the end of mantra recitation, the meaning is to bring our awareness into emptiness. The bell signifies the wisdom of emptiness. At all other times, the meaning is an offering. Thus, when we use the bell, we shouldn't just play it, rather we should make an offering.From April 10 to May 10, 2004, Lama Zopa Rinpoche gave extensive teachings during the Mahamudra Retreat at Buddha House in Australia. While the retreat focused on Mahamudra, Rinpoche also taught on a wide range of Lamrim topics. This retreat marked the beginning of a series of month-long retreats in Australia. The first interaction I remember having with you was at the old Calcutta airport sometime in the 1990s. A group of about six god sisters, traveling together, arrived on the same flight as you and a few god brothers. Our cars had not yet arrived to take us to Mayapur, and we were unsure what to do. There were no cell phones. We were stuck. Whilst everyone else from the flight left, you, alone, stayed behind to help us arrange transportation. I'm not sure how long it took, but you didn't leave until we were safely packed and on our way. This simple act of kindness left a lasting impression on me. Since that time, I have witnessed and often heard about many such instances of your personal care and willingness to go out of your way to give your association and support. Your loving friendships with your god siblings have been a source of inspiration to me and so many others. You embody the same personal warmth and compassion with which Śrīla Prabhupāda interacted with His disciples. It doesn't matter one's position, what service one renders, or how steadily one maintains devotional service standards. You always offer understanding, encouragement, and heartfelt compassion. (excerpt from HG Nirakula Dasi's offering) ------------------------------------------------------------ I received from his home, His Holiness Radhanath Swami, a piece of advice which I hold dear and which I consider one of the most useful pieces of advice I have ever received. In one of our conversations, in which I was complaining about how overwhelming all the problems are in management, and I was listing some of the conflicts that were seemingly intractable, he gave me straightforward, very simple advice that I go back to again and again. He said to me, "You have to be blissful in order to deal with problems. Therefore, your main duty as a leader/manager is to find out how to make yourself blissful by being deeply absorbed in Kṛṣṇa consciousness." I feel that this answer contains all of Śrīla Prabhupāda's most important instructions. It's at once practical and fully aligned with Śrīla Prabhupāda's mood. And I will say that Rādhānāth Swami exemplifies this, because of his advancement in devotional service. Despite the fact that he has service that is unimaginable for any one human being, he is able to handle it because he always remains blissful by being engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness—hearing and chanting, remembering Kṛṣṇa wherever he goes—and this is the key to life. I'm forever grateful to him for his association, for all he's doing for the saṅkīrtana movement, and for this one piece of advice, which has kept me steady and engaged in service over so many years. This week, I am interviewing a couple who has been RVing for nearly five years, and they have some great advice on ways people and companies can help make the RV lifestyle more inviting to all people. Vicky Childers and Lamont Landrum have been RVing for nearly five years after deciding they wanted to build a different kind of life together. When they first started dating, both felt the pull to travel. Vicky was already working remotely and Lamont wanted to find a way to see more of the world. They bought their first RV in 2019 and hit the road without even knowing Workamping existed. When the pandemic brought Lamont's handyman business to a halt, they discovered Workamping through friends and realized it was the perfect way for him to work while they traveled. Since then, they have held a variety of jobs across the country. Lamont's early positions included maintenance work at Buffalo Bill Village in Cody, Wyo., followed by multiple seasons at the beet harvest, which later promoted him to assistant foreman. He has also done volunteer work and boardwalk support at an Audubon preserve in Florida, maintenance and infrastructure upgrades in Texas, site support on Mackinac Island in Michigan, camp hosting in Colorado, and even served as an area manager for a campground company. Along the way, they upgraded their RV, explored new regions, and built a lifestyle centered on adventure, discovery and meaningful work. They shared what they love about this lifestyle, including the chance to live in beautiful locations for entire seasons, explore mountains, coastlines and national treasures at their own pace. Doing so allows them to enjoy a sense of freedom that traditional jobs rarely allow. Lamont also emphasized how rewarding it has been to work for employers who recognize effort and integrity. That's especially true during the beet harvest, where his hard work led to increasing responsibilities year after year. Vicky and Lamont also spoke about how Workamping can be made more inviting to minorities, especially people who may not see themselves represented in outdoor spaces. They noted that many people simply don't know this lifestyle is an option or doubt they would be welcomed. Lamont and Vicky suggested that employers and the industry can reach more people by helping newcomers “dip their toes in” to the Workamping lifestyle. They can do that in several ways, such as: Offering employee housing instead of requiring everyone to have an RV. Creating opportunities for people to simply visit campgrounds and ask questions. Sharing stories showing that most travelers are welcoming and supportive. They stressed that negative encounters do happen, but they are rare. The overwhelming majority of places they have visited have been friendly and accepting. When there's a mix-up of sacrifices and it's not clear who brought which offering, then the question of semihah - the laying on of hands on the animal - comes to the fore. Plus, what if the mix-up is between private ownership vs. public ownership? Or is the mix-up just the blood? And how - again - might it compare to the parah adumah? (Spoiler alert: It doesn't.) Also, all offerings can be intermingled and confused - a strong statement, when some offerings are always male or female, which should not be confusable, for example. Plus, a new mishnah - also about mix-ups, and where they should be treated according to the stringencies that are in each kind of offering (in the example, a guilt-offering and a peace-offering).

Family gatherings can be beautiful. They can also feel like emotional landmines, especially when you're an actor. One minute you're passing the mashed potatoes. The next you're answering a pointed question about your career from someone who hasn't watched a show since 1998. In this week's episode of the Acting Business Bootcamp Podcast, I talk about how to stay calm, centered, and grounded as you navigate family dynamics. These tools help you protect your energy so you can enjoy the holiday instead of getting swept up in other people's anxieties. The Question Doesn't Require a Monologue A lot of actors feel pressured to explain themselves. To defend their choices. To prove they're on the right track. But you don't owe anyone an emotional TED Talk over stuffing. A simple, steady answer is enough. "It's going well. Thank you." That one sentence keeps you out of conversations you don't need to be in. You get to keep your peace. You get to protect your space. If someone pushes, you can set a gentle boundary. "I have a few things moving, I'll share when I'm ready." Short. Clear. Done. Their Anxiety Doesn't Belong to You So often the loudest questions are really about someone else's fears. Their need for certainty. Their discomfort with ambiguity. You don't have to take that on. Let their energy stay with them. You return to your own center. Your own path. Your own truth. Anchor Yourself Before You Walk In A holiday gathering is like an unexpected audition. A little preparation goes a long way. Take a few quiet minutes in the car before going inside. Ground your breath. Remember the work you've done. Remember what you're building. Even the smallest wins matter. This simple pause strengthens you more than you think. Use The Bathroom as Your Backstage If you feel yourself getting wobbly, step away. Close the door. Breathe. One minute is enough to reset your nervous system. Here's an affirmation I love for holiday gatherings: "I am my own authority. I love and approve of myself. Life is good." Say it until your shoulders drop. Movement Clears Emotional Static Sometimes the easiest way to break emotional noise is to move your body. A short walk around the block. A quick step outside. Offering to run to the store. Even a loop around the backyard. Think of it as an intermission in the middle of the holiday play. Grace Beats Defensiveness If someone brings up the state of the industry or questions your path, gently redirect. "Things are moving. I'm focused on the work. How are you doing?" It shifts the spotlight off you. It softens the moment. It keeps the energy human. Curiosity Transforms the Room People want to be seen. When you become curious about them, the dynamic changes. Ask how their year has been. Ask a follow-up. Then another. When you listen deeply, conversations soften. Walls come down. You return to connection, not conflict. In his teachings to Śrīla Rūpa Goswāmī, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu gave a schema indicating the rarity of those who take to the process of pure devotional service. He started with the population of all the living entities: some of them are humans. Out of them, very few are interested in religious principles. Out of those, some are serious about religious principles. And out of those, there are fewer still that are devotees of the Supreme. And out of them, there are very fewer still of those who are aware of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and who are engaged in the process of pure devotional service. Well, Prabhupāda performed a miracle in this world, but he didn't do it alone. He did it because there were some very special souls who came to his aid when he had no money and no place to stay, and who gave their entire lives to serve him. Kanka Devī is one of those devotees—the rarest of the rare—who are servants of the servant, of the servant of a genuine, pure devotee Ācārya. She joined the Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Movement when she was an adolescent, and she's been serving Śrīla Prabhupāda faithfully all these decades, almost sixty years, six decades of dedication to the service of Śrīla Prabhupāda and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's movement. We know her nature because we see her regularly. One aspect of her nature is that she's steady. She has to drive a long way to come here, but she never misses. Another is that she's always remembering Śrīla Prabhupāda. Whenever we discuss Kṛṣṇa consciousness, she always has an anecdote remembering Śrīla Prabhupāda, and that's the best association one can have, especially in our Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Movement. Those who have lived this life in dedication to Śrīla Prabhupāda, and who were actually there and can remember the moods and methods, those nuances are what enriches the system of paramparā. Thankfulness isn’t just a seasonal tradition—it’s a spiritual posture rooted deep in Scripture and woven through history. Psalm 100:4 calls us to enter God’s presence with gratitude, a theme that began long before American holidays and continues to shape the way believers respond to God’s goodness today. From Old Testament thank offerings to the Pilgrims’ courageous faith, we’re reminded that gratitude grows strongest in hearts that remember God’s faithfulness through every circumstance. Highlights Biblical thanksgiving began with offerings of gratitude long before modern celebrations. Full Transcript Below: Cultivating a Heart Full of Thanksgiving By Lynette Kittle Bible Reading: “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name”—Psalm 100:4 Offering thanksgiving didn’t begin in America; it began in the Bible, taught to humankind by a loving and gracious God who is deserving and worthy of our gratitude, and to receive thankfulness that comes from hearts truly grateful for all He has done and is still doing in our lives and in our nation. Thanksgiving to God, often associated with food offerings, began in the Bible. As early as Leviticus 7:12, we read how God instructed, “If they offer it as an expression of thankfulness, then along with this thank offering they are to offer thick loaves made without yeast and with olive oil mixed in, thin loaves made without yeast and brushed with oil, and thick loaves of the finest flour well-kneaded and with oil mixed in.” Again, in 2 Chronicles 29:31, the King calls for the people to give thanks. “Then Hezekiah said, ‘You have now dedicated yourselves to the Lord. Come and bring sacrifices and thank offerings to the temple of the Lord.’ So the assembly brought sacrifices and thank offerings, and all whose hearts were willing brought burnt offerings.” America’s Thankfulness Rooted in Biblical Truth Remarkably, Thanksgiving Day in America is rooted in the biblical faith brought and carried to our land through the Pilgrims who courageously escaped Europe’s tightly held religious control to pursue freedom to worship God. Creator and Executive Producer of The Pilgrims documentary, Dr. Jerry Newcombe, follows the Pilgrims from Europe to the New World, documenting their faith and journey to America. The Pilgrims, even in the suffering they endured in Europe and after arriving in America, believed what 1 Thessalonians 5:18 urges, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Newcombe describes the harsh winter leading up to the first 1621 Thanksgiving, marked by illness, cold, and starvation. Of the eighteen women aboard the Mayflower, only four survived. As well, half the married men and ten of the twenty-nine unmarried men died. Children survived better than the adults, with seventeen of the twenty surviving the brutal conditions. Still, very few Pilgrims survived the devastating “starving times” and sickness to participate in the first Thanksgiving, enduring what 2 Corinthians 4:8 describes. “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed.” As well, historian and author of The Treacherous World of the 16th Century & How the Pilgrims Escaped It: The Prequel to America's Freedom, William J. Federer, discusses facts that some may overlook, such as how miraculous it was for the Pilgrims to escape Europe and birth America. “Of the 102 Pilgrims, only 47 survived till spring,” writes Federer, “At one point, only a half dozen were healthy enough to care for the rest.” The Pilgrims Laid the Groundwork for Thanksgiving “Without the Pilgrims, Thanksgiving Day, set aside to thank God,” states Federer, “it may not have ever been established. They laid the groundwork and foundation for America to set aside a holiday to thank God.” Although not officially called Thanksgiving Day at the time, the Pilgrims were able to kick off America’s tradition of giving thanks to God with a three-day feast with the Native Americans. Devoted to a purity of the Gospel, the Pilgrims recognized the importance of thankfulness, even in the most difficult of times, understanding it as a sacrifice to God. As Psalm 116:17 directs, “I will sacrifice a thank offering to You and call on the name of the Lord. “ “Because of them,” writes Newcombe, “we have had 400 years of Thanksgiving in America, and thanks to Presidents Washington (who declared the first national day of Thanksgiving) and Lincoln (who made it a yearly event), we even celebrate it as an annual holiday.” Newcombe, who also serves as Executive Director of Providence Forum, an outreach of Coral Ridge Ministries, shares President George Washington’s declaration for a national day of Thanksgiving, “[I]t is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.” Intersecting Faith & Life: Ask God to lead you in cultivating a heart full of thanksgiving. Begin by studying His word, spending time in prayer thanking Him for His faithfulness, and telling others of all He has done in your life.
