Stuart from Great Escape Games joins us to talk about his journey from Games Workshop store manager to Wild West gunslinger. As well as running the Cardiff store, Stuart also had a couple of his armies featured in White Dwarf and even won a WFB staff tournament whilst working at GW. These days, Stuart has traded in his red jersey for a Stetson, as one of the big focuses of Great Escape Games is Dead Man's Hand. For the past decade, DMH has given players the opportunity to fight out gun battles in the Old West, and it'll be given some TLC in 2024 with its new edition Dead Man's Hand Redux - coming to Kickstarter at the end of the month!

In this episode we talk about the fear of missing out. And in the miniature wargaming world this comes in the form of missing opportunities for price deals and missing opportunities for access to specific miniatures. While the miniature wargaming world is not as bad as the Collectible Card Game world this fear of missing out is most often an artificial creation of a vendor to extract money from consumers. Hobby: Brian takes on his Ork horde army for Warhammer 40K while I tackle the terrain from Pariah Nexus. This is one where you have to get used to painting the same thing over and over. Horizon Scan: We both are looking forward to Stargrave, while I am interested in seeing if I can kit bash the Stargrave alien set with Great Escape Games upcoming plastic Cowboy minis.

This week I speak to Stuart of Great Escape Games. Great Escape Games not only offers a wide variety of interesting rule sets such as Dead Man’s Hand, a western style skirmish game, Iron Cross, 1914, Seven Days to the River Rhine, all table top war games in a variety of eras, but they also offer miniatures in ranges that may not be offered by other companies in the eras we play. Romanians, Mountain Italian Alpini, Greek Mountain troops to name 3 such ranges from the WW2 era. Taking Seven Days to the River Rhine and Iron Cross as two examples, what really interests me is that each unit in a force generates a token which can be spent at a variety of times through a turn, it deviates from a traditional turn structure. You can also activate the same unit multiple times, potentially. It is an interesting mechanic, to name just one of the facets which make these games appealing to me personally. If that sort of thing sounds interesting then give Great Escape Games a look and see what you think. http://www.greatescapegames.co.uk It was a genuine pleasure talking to Stuart, as I mention in the show it was the longest pre show I think I have ever had, over an hour chat about loads of different subjects, and the podcast could also have lasted about triple the time. Thanks for coming on Stuart, it was a pleasure to spend some time with you. I hope you enjoy the show.

In which Conrad waxes lyrical about his new love, Iron Cross from Great Escape Games. Mike is just basically along for the ride on this one given that he doesn't do WW2 games and has no intention of ever doing so. With that said though Conrad paints a compelling melodious picture of a fun game. Its not quite enough to convert Mike but it probably comes close.
