I don't know how many times I have now attended, but during my first visit, I was walking the halls hoping to speak to publishers about my blog and praying that I might get a review copy or two. I attended for a single day, driving up all the way and back again by myself, trying to cram it all on. That's all changed over the years. So let me tell you my plans for UK Games Expo 2025.Read the full topic discussion article here: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2025/05/20/uk-games-expo-2025-looking-ahead-saturday-review/Useful LinksUK Games Expo: https://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/Amosdee UK: https://www.asmodee.co.uk/£1,000 Giveaway: https://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/whats-on/show/1000-giveaway/Asmodee UK Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AsmodeeUKAtikin Games: https://atikingames.com/Malus Hortus review: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2025/04/05/malus-hortus-saturday-review/Stuff by Bez: https://www.stuffbybez.com/Dissent Game: https://dissentgames.com/Naylor Games: https://naylorgames.com/Unfringed: https://unfringed.co/Oink Games: https://oinkgames.com/en/Dranda Games: https://www.drandagames.co.uk/Osprey Games: https://www.ospreypublishing.com/uk/osprey-games/Ofrenda review: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2025/05/10/ofrenda-saturday-review/Red Raven Games: https://www.redravengames.com/Hachette Boardgames UK: https://www.hachetteboardgames.co.uk/Paper Forg Games: https://www.paperfortgames.com/Play With Us Design (PWUD): https://pwud.ga/Playte: https://www.playte.com/Pueblo review: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2025/03/22/pueblo-saturday-review/Ravensburger: https://www.ravensburger.co.uk/en-GBKosmos: https://www.thamesandkosmos.co.uk/MusicIntro Music: Bomber (Sting) by Riot (https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/)Music: "oct 8 2021" provided by mobygratis.SupportIf you want to support this podcast financially, please check out the links below:Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/TabletopGamesBlogPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/tabletopgamesblogWebsite: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/support/
It is time for the Day of the Dead, the Día de los Muertos. It is also time to prepare our altar of family portraits with beautiful marigolds and candles to remember those who have passed away. Soon, we will make offerings of the things they loved, to guide their spirits back to us. At the same time, we have to be very careful how we arrange the photos. Like in any family, not everyone is happy to be right next to just anyone in our Ofrenda by Orlando Sá and André Santos from Osprey Games with art from Álex Herrerías.Read the full review here: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2025/05/10/ofrenda-saturday-review/Useful LinksOfrenda: https://www.ospreypublishing.com/uk/ofrenda-9781472868787/Osprey Games: https://www.ospreypublishing.com/uk/BGG listing: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/432705/ofrendaMy Shelfie review: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2023/09/02/my-shelfie-saturday-review/Patchwork review: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2020/11/21/patchwork-digital-eyes/MusicIntro Music: Bomber (Sting) by Riot (https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/)Music: "harder" provided by mobygratis.Music: "death in the afternoon" provided by mobygratis.SupportIf you want to support this podcast financially, please check out the links below:Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/TabletopGamesBlogPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/tabletopgamesblogWebsite: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/support/
As the long, dark winter looms, bears gather along the river, drawn by the promise of a feast. They fight for the best fishing spots, where leaping salmon offer a chance at survival. The strongest dominate the prime locations, while others perfect their own hunting techniques. Each catch is a battle, each meal a lifeline. Only those who have feasted well will endure in the wild heart of Katmai: The Bears of Brooks River by Peter Ridgeway from Osprey Games with illustrations from Tom Lopez.Read the full review here: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2025/03/29/katmai-the-bears-of-brooks-river-saturday-review/Useful LinksKatmai: The Bears of Brooks River: https://www.ospreypublishing.com/uk/katmai-9781472867353/Rulebook: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/290154/katmai-rulebookOsprey Games: https://www.ospreypublishing.com/uk/osprey-games/BGG listing: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/419908/katmai-the-bears-of-brooks-riverKatmai Conservancy: https://katmaiconservancy.org/MusicIntro Music: Bomber (Sting) by Riot (https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/)Sound Effects: bbc.co.uk – © copyright 2025 BBCNature Spirit ( LoFi , Chill ) by HoliznaPATREON is licensed under a Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.SupportIf you want to support this podcast financially, please check out the links below:Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/tabletopgamesblogKo-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/TabletopGamesBlogWebsite: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/
On the tabletop, us four oldies take to the battlefield with the deeply strategic and surprisingly accessible Battalion: War of the Ancients from Osprey Games, and dive beneath the waves in Pacifica from Thames & Kosmos. Meanwhile, in the courtroom, we take a look at Capcom's shockingly generous compilation Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy, and then pronounce judgment on Marvel's latest, Captain America: Brave New World. All that, and getting some paint on the brush, on Ep219. 00:13 - A PVA glue subscription?! 07:35 - Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy 20:18 - Painting miniatures 23:23 - Battalion: War of the Ancients 40:05 - Pacifica 46:39 - Captain America: Brave New World On this episode were Dan (@ThisDanFrost), Kris (@DigitalStrider), Peter (@XeroXeroXero), and Sam (@MrSamTurner). Pete and Andrew have gone fishin'? But they're fishing with their...hands!? Well, paws, I guess. In this new 2-player board game from Osprey Games, it's that time of year again: time for the bears to come to Brooks River in Alaska to catch and eat as many salmon as they can before their long sleep. Does this game fill our bellies? Listen to find out! Plus, Mike Fitz, the originator of Fat Bear Week, former National Park worker and current Naturalist for Explore.org joins to talk all things bears! Having your world turned upside down is one thing, but having a whole new dimension added? That's tough! The Plucky Squire from All Possible Futures digs into this idea with approachable puzzles and tricky action. Meanwhile Wizards Cup from Pandasaurus Games is a two player magical duel with gorgeous art and a tight little footprint. Speaking of footprints, Katmai: The Bears of Brooks River from Osprey Games has ones in the shape of bear paws, as grizzlies compete for the ultimate prize: fish (of course). And Medical Mysteries: NYC Emergency Room from Identity Games has us playing House, diagnosing patients cooperatively in a race against time. All that, and the perils of neat squash, on Ep218. 00:00 - Soup on the trousers and other stories 09:37 - The Plucky Squire 22:17 - Wizards Cup 38:00 - Katmai: The Bears of Brooks River 50:42 - Medical Mysteries: NYC Emergency Room On this episode were Dan (@ThisDanFrost), Kris (@DigitalStrider), and Sam (@MrSamTurner). Sans oublier le programme de la semaine, le tout dans la bonne humeur.
Once again, it happened...! Pooka is in attendance at PAX Unplugged this weekend, and spent Friday afternoon rushing around doing on-the-spot interviews with creators whose work is somewhat Changeling-aligned. Herein are five short interviews about games that touch on the fae, dreams, imagination, and more. The sound quality in this minisode is particularly awful, which is what happens when you're doing interviews in a giant hall filled with 10,000 people, but at least everybody was as lovely and informative as they could be on a frantic day. Hopefully these will inspire you to seek out new and interesting games to expand your horizons, and if you happen to be at the convention, check out the booths in questions! For our club-versus-club Thermopylae wargame against Mark's Game Room, we used Men of Bronze as the rules for our land battle. Today, the author joins Little Wars FM for an in-depth discussion. Eric Farrington is the author of multiple game systems and he talks to Greg about his past and future projects. Eric also reflects on working with Osprey Games as a publisher and how their development process works. You can follow Eric's wargaming hobby updates on his blog, Blood & Spectacles, where he is extremely active. As a reminder, you can also visit us at Little Wars TV for access to our modified quick reference sheet for Men of Bronze, where we adapted the original rules for mass battle combat. You can find that PDF on our "Free Stuff" page under the Thermopylae episode notes. Our thanks to Eric Farrington for coming on the podcast to talk about his wargame design process!
The mountains provided great vantage points for both sides. We could easily see what the enemy was doing, but so could they. Providing air support was going to be impossible because of the terrain, but we were still considering paradrops to get troops far into the enemy's territory. It would all come down to tactics, because we had only been given General Orders: World War II by Trevor Benjamin and David Thompson from Osprey Games.

How does Kiwi get bP to play wargames? But tricking her into playing games that are war themed but don't play like wargames (or vice versa, non-war themes with common wargame mechanics). Nestled between hills and blanketed with beautiful fields of grass, where cows grazed happily, our village was in the perfect place. Country life was slow and relaxed, because nobody had anywhere urgent to get to. However, that was all going to change soon. Metal tracks were soon going to crisscross between hills and along rivers. They would connect our sleepy corner of the world. They were the Village Rails by Matthew Dunstan and Brett J. Gilbert from Osprey Games. After much popular demand, we present to you the much-anticipated return of Masterpiece Theatre. Our esteemed patron--who is utterly unaware of our existence, such is his focus on his twin demesnes of fastness and furiousness--deserves no less. The apocalypse has finally come. After the breakdown of society, survivors have formed gangs of motorheads, that scour the wasteland for rare and very precious petrol reserves. Their vehicles are highly tricked-out, finely tuned, heavily reinforced and equipped with a wide range of weapons. They will stop at nothing, which is exactly why a small number of the surviving rich elite have organised deadly races, where the gangs are pitted against each other to be the first to reach the finishing line and claim their prize - or be the last survivor in the arena of these Gaslands: Refuelled by Mike Hutchinson from Osprey Games. The RPG Room Podcast: are conventions dying? and Osprey Games Crescendo of Violence review ********************************************** This channel is dedicated to all those games you might never hear about otherwise. Please help our channel by subscribing and commenting. If you like our work, please buy us a Ko-Fi ► https://ko-fi.com/gmsmagazine ********************************************** About Crescendo of Violence 2093, Neo York. A dystopian technological marvel, where concrete high-rises brim with holographic neon, as gilded mob bosses, flashy CEOs, and famous vid-stars all strive to consolidate their power over the masses. And while the rain reflects the neon, it never washes away the grime and filth of the streets. Welcome to a world of synth-jazz and cybernetics, where the status quo grinds down the hard-working man and vat-grown clone alike. Whether you're the redemption-seeking gangster, the one good cop in a corrupt system, or the gene-modded musician trying to make it big, you'll be trying to get by in a city that just doesn't care. Epic fight scenes take centre stage in this game of stylised, high-octane bloodshed. Jump straight into the action with a unique ruleset designed to deliver a cinematic, neon-noir experience, as the spotlight focuses on the brutal showdowns that will define you – or leave you face-down in the dirt. So get ready to give them hell, as the sultry notes of the saxophone build into a crescendo of violence. 00:00 - Listener pal Ben asks us for some gaming recommendations for new parents; exactly which games CAN you play with one hand? 10:27 - Manchester played host to Tabletop Gaming Live 2022, so naturally we were in attendance too. What a great event! 17:56 - We only get to speak about Quarto from Hachette for a little bit, but that's fine because our feelings about it are simple: you should for sure play it. 19:20 - Osprey Games delivers the goods yet again with Village Rails. In it, you'll usher in modernity and the age of steam by building a network across the British countryside. 27:14 - You can feel the money dripping off the screen when you watch The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which we're enjoying a fair bit - but is there a danger in “fantasy” become “mundane”? 43:42 - Acram Digital are one of the greats when it comes to digital tabletop adaptations, and that's definitely the case with the excellent Unmatched: Digital Edition. 58:42 - We made you a game! You can get What's Better than a Hot Tub? from DriveThruRPG now. Also: Staying In Bingo anyone? All that, and an inappropriate aubergine, with Dan (@ThisDanFrost), Kris (@DigitalStrider), Peter (@XeroXeroXero), and Sam (@MrSamTurner). It's a weird little thematic disconnect when you're not sure who or what your avatar in-game is. 00:00 – It's time to investigate. 05:06 – Ms. Marvel is wonderful. It's a celebration of cultural identity, with nuance, laughter, wisdom, community… we love it. 28:30 – Lifting the curse with shuffleboard at the Bristol Craft Beer Festival. 32:36 – Disney Villainous from Prospero Hall and Ravensburger is genuinely kind of incredible. The art and component quality is staggering, the asymmetrical play works really nicely, and it's easy to teach to new players. 49:16 – Crescent Moon is from Osprey Games, Steven Mathers and Navid Rahman. It's a slightly weird proposition, having a very specific player count. But the asymmetry is streamlined, the game leans into its theme to great effect, and the whole thing has us wanting to play it over and over. All that, and why we're bonkers for pollen, with Dan (@ThisDanFrost), Kris (@DigitalStrider), Peter (@XeroXeroXero), and Sam (@MrSamTurner). On Mark's drive across Canada (the first time), he stopped in Drumheller, Alberta for some dinosaur tourism. It has a truly impressive nodosaur specimen. The nodosaur is a close relative of the ankylosaur, a key difference being the former's lack of a thagomizer, the club-like appendage at the end of an ankylosaur's tail. Mark bought a plastic ankylosaur as a souvenir. Its name is Angie.Perseverance doesn't have any ankylosaurs or nodosaurs. A shame.
