Episode 72: William Bowerman. When I first saw Dua Lipa perform, the drummer immediately stood out, and it turned out he was also the musical director: William Bowerman. Fast forward 10 years, and William is one of the most in-demand musical directors in the world, coming out of London. He's still MD for Dua Lipa, and now his client list also includes Post Malone, Jennie, BLACKPINK, The Kid Laroi, FKA Twigs, Addison Rae, and many more. His work with Dua opened the floodgates, and he's since co-founded WFB with his wife, creative director Ace Bowerman. Together, they're building something special. William stopped by my place while he was in LA rehearsing for Coachella with Jennie, and we had a great hang. We talked about his path, creative process, artist relationships, WFB, and life. Here is our conversation! Hope you enjoy it. Let's go! ‘Go with Elmo Lovano' is a weekly podcast where Elmo interviews creatives and entrepreneurs in music on HOW they push forward every day, got where they are in their careers, manage their personal lives, and share lessons learned and their most important insights. Tuesday, March 26, Governor Inslee vetoed section 6 of the SB 5784 to create an elk collaring pilot program with a data share agreement that farmers could access to track elk before they cross private property lines and cause damage to crops. The vetoed section was replaced with a cooperative agreement between Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Yakama Tribe. Additionally, SB 5784, increases overall funding for farmers who suffer damage from deer and elk, while capping individual claims for damaged crops at $30,000. “The Governor's solution to section 6 of the bill is concerning as the cooperative agreement provides no assurances that farmers will receive data from the collaring pilot program,” said Caleb Gwerder, WFB's Governmental Affairs Coordinator. “Without the data share agreement, farmers will continue to lose the battle against wildlife damages to crops.”

Stuart from Great Escape Games joins us to talk about his journey from Games Workshop store manager to Wild West gunslinger. As well as running the Cardiff store, Stuart also had a couple of his armies featured in White Dwarf and even won a WFB staff tournament whilst working at GW. These days, Stuart has traded in his red jersey for a Stetson, as one of the big focuses of Great Escape Games is Dead Man's Hand. For the past decade, DMH has given players the opportunity to fight out gun battles in the Old West, and it'll be given some TLC in 2024 with its new edition Dead Man's Hand Redux - coming to Kickstarter at the end of the month!

This report is in response to some recent false narratives placing the blame that farmers continue to face the carbon price at the feet of fuel distributors. The Department of Ecology has the mandate to provide for this carbon price exemption and they continue to fail in this mandate.  WFB has issued a petition for rulemaking with Ecology and the department has until August 15th to respond. We continue to wait on their response. In this episode, we look at the current landscape of who is responsible for this issue and what moving forward looks like.  Are you a WFB member and not getting our emails? That probably means that we do not have your email address. If that's the case, let us know! Give us a call at (360) 357-9975 or email us at gr@wsfb.com. We want to make sure we have your email address and are sending you relevant information to keep you up to date on important Washington State agricultural news.  While we continue pursuing all avenues for solutions, we need your help in supporting the WFB Legal Foundation. Picking up from our last episode of Designing Futures, Angela is joined by Scot Herbst, a creative design director of Herbstprodukt, and his father, Walter Herbst, the founder and former CEO of Herbst LaZar Bell and currently COO of Herbestprodukt. Scot and Walter share their ‘WFB' experience - their “Work From Boat” work-style. Walter tells us about his journey through the historical and cultural movements of the Industrial Design Industry, and the ebbs and flows of sustaining a design career over the last 40 years. Scot discusses following his dad's footsteps in design and working at Herbstprodukt - a design, brand, and strategy consulting agency with internal design teams based in Silicon Valley. We discuss Walter's contributions to the education of the Industrial Design field - creating the Master's degree in Product Design and Development Management program at Northwestern University, where he is currently a director and professor of the program. For the first in-person episode, I linked up with Warwick Farm Brewing's Brewmaster Ryan Seiz to record this podcast and enjoy a Nitro Black Lager. WFB quickly became popular and created an incredible experience in Bucks County, PA that continues to improve. Ryan is a former Major League Baseball player and we discuss the parallels between baseball, building a business, and embracing the daily grind. Much like the movie "Field of Dreams," the phrase "if you build it, they will come" rings true here. WFB had a blueprint for their next steps before they even brewed their first beer. They have 22 acres of land and are cranking out phenomenal beers consistently. They originally wanted to focus on Hazy IPAs but have increased their Lager production due to demand. We hit on sustainability, their farming future and a potential Sour Cellar. Keep an eye out for this team! Sarah Weinman's new book—Scoundrel: How a Convicted Murderer Persuaded the Women Who Loved Him, the Conservative Establishment, and the Courts to Set Him Free—is a gripping true crime story, and perhaps the tale of an ill-fated love triangle.  It also is a story about William F. Buckley, Jr., who defied expectations to show mercy to a death-row prisoner, Edgar Smith, after finding out that he supposedly read National Review. In this episode, Weinman joins Matt and Sam to talk about this fascinating, half-forgotten episode from a key period in Buckley's life and career—how Smith and Buckley met; what Buckley did for him; the role played by Sophie Wilkins, Smith's editor at Knopf, in what happened; and the sad ending toward which it all careened.Sources:Sarah Weinman, Scoundrel: How a Convicted Murderer Persuaded the Women Who Loved Him, the Conservative Establishment, and the Courts to Set Him Free (Ecco Press, February 2022)Sam Adler-Bell, "The Conservative and the Murderer," New Republic, March 7, 2022Christopher Buckley, Losing Mum and Pup: A Memoir (Twelve Books, May 2009)Garry Wills, "Daredevil," Atlantic, July/August 2009Sophie Wilkins, trans., The Man Without Qualities by Robert Musil (1930, 2017)Alexander Chee, "Mr. and Mrs. B," Apology Magazine, Winter 2014...and don't forget to subscribe to Know Your Enemy on Patreon for access to all of our bonus episodes!

Are there meaningful critiques or conversations to be had around AOC's Met Gala dress despite what “woke” Twitter may have you thinking? All this and more on today's episode.
