In local news, the Appalachian Theatre on King Street is honoring Black History Month by showing screenings of two award-winning films. According to the Watauga Democrat, the films “Harriet” and “Black Panther” will be screened. “Harriet”, a biographical film about Harriet Tubman will play at the theater on Thursday February 16th at 7 P.M. “Black Panther”, a Marvel superhero film, will play at the theater on Friday February 17th, also at 7 P.M. Tickets for both films will be $6 per person. In state news, a town inside Halifax County is aiming to become the first 3D printed housing development in North Carolina. According to WRAL, the project in the town of Littleton will cost $30 million. The purpose of the project is to hopefully bring “affordable and green housing to an area on the rise.” In addition to this, developers told WRAL the project will bring affordability, time and sustainability. The 3D-printed complex will bring 150 housing units and it will be the first housing complex of its kind in the state. In national news, a shooting occurred at Michigan State University Monday night, killing three people and injuring five others. According to the Associated Press, the gunman fatally shot himself hours after the shooting occurred. The shooting broke out in an academic building and then in the MSU Union, a popular place for students to eat and study. According to the Associated Press, the gunman was a 43-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released, however he was not a student or a faculty member. Now onto sports. In App State Sports news, the Mountaineer women's golf team wrapped up their play yesterday in the opening round of the Oyster Shuck Match Play event at the Charleston Municipal Golf Course. They were defeated by rival Western Carolina by a score of 3.5-1.5. Hannah Wang won the only head to head matchup for the Mountaineers going 5&3 against Kayleigh Baker of Western Carolina. In college sports news, the shooting at Michigan State University will affect the Big Ten men's basketball matchup between the Spartans and the Minnesota Golden Gophers that was scheduled for tomorrow night, as well as the women's game against the Purdue Boilermakers that was also scheduled for tomorrow night. The university suspended campus activities for 48 hours after the shooting took place on Monday night. And finally in local NFL news, the Carolina Panthers have hired former Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell to assist new head coach Frank Reich. He will assist Reich with operations on offense, defense and special teams. Caldwell, who is 68 years old, was one of the nine candidates to interview to be the new head coach of the Panthers, which ultimately went to Reich. Now, onto your weather forecast.
