In this episode of the Better Learning Podcast, host Kevin Stoller is joined by co-host Matt Rogers and guest speaker Mason Pashia, Partner (Storytelling) at Getting Smart Collective, for an energetic and thought-provoking conversation centered around the 2003 cult classic School of Rock. Known for his work amplifying the voices of educators and change-makers through storytelling, Mason brings a fresh and imaginative lens to how we think about student engagement, creative expression, and nontraditional learning paths. School of Rock follows the story of Dewey Finn, a struggling musician who finds unexpected purpose—and unleashes unexpected potential—when he poses as a substitute teacher and transforms a class of rule-following prep school kids into a rock band. Together, Matt and Mason explore the film's deeper themes of passion, authenticity, and belonging in education. They reflect on how schools can create space for students to discover their identities, pursue what excites them, and challenge conventional measures of success—all while staying grounded in a mission to serve and empower every learner.   Takeaways: School of Rock highlights how stepping outside traditional curriculum and teaching methods can unlock student potential and engagement in surprising ways. Dewey Finn's enthusiasm for music becomes the bridge that allows students to connect with their interests—and with each other. Educators can harness this same power by leading with passion. The film underscores the importance of allowing students to have a say in their learning journey. When students are given autonomy, they rise to the occasion and take ownership of their growth. Matt and Mason explore how School of Rock challenges rigid definitions of success and encourages schools to recognize diverse forms of excellence—not just academic achievement.     About Mason Pashia: Mason Pashia is a Partner (Storytelling) at Getting Smart Collective. Through publications, blogs, podcasts, town halls, newsletters, and more, he helps drive the perspective and focus of GettingSmart.com. He advocates for data and collective imagination and uses this combination to launch campaigns that amplify voices, organizations, and missions. And Matt just happens to have also co-founded a little company called Nest, which has been a powerful driver of energy efficiency. The NFC Divisional Round game between the  Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams here in the 2024-2025 season is now in the books! The Eagles defeated the Rams by a score of 28-22 down at The Linc. The Eagles now look to the NFC Championship Game where they will face the Washington Commanders in Philly. It's going to be an incredible game.Jalen Hurts certainly didn't play his best football of the year, but it was enough to help the Eagles win, especially with his 44-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that helped set the tone for the offense. While the wide receivers disappointed in this game, Saquon Barkley did not. He ran for 205 yards on the ground (plus 27 yards catching the ball) on 16 carries, and two touchdowns.Vic Fangio's defense played well and placed pressure on Matt Stafford in the game when it truly counted. While the snow elements provided some challenges, the pass rush, rushing defense, and secondary played a complete game. One of our themes, however, was the many plays left on the field by the defense. As always, we gave our top themes, thoughts and opinions from the game on offense, defense, and special teams, and then graded each unit on both sides of the ball, as well as the coaching staff. It was great to have our friend of the pod Matt Rogers from The Honorable Mention Podcast join us this week for our analysis.Head over to our website for all of our podcasts and more: philadelphiasportstable.com.Follow us on BlueSky:Jeff: @jeffwarren.bsky.socialErik: @brickpollitt.bsky.socialFollow us on Threads:Jeff: @mrjeffwarrenErik: @slen1023The Show: @philadelphiasportstableFollow us on Twitter/X:Jeff: @Jeffrey_WarrenErik: @BrickPollittThe Show: @PhiladelphiaPSTFollow the show on Instagram: instagram.com/philadelphiasportstable.

Week 18 of the Philadelphia Eagles 2024-2025 season is now in the books as they have completed their regular season by beating the New York Giants by a score of 20-13 down at The Linc. The Eagles now look to the playoffs. They'll be facing the Green Bay Packers at The Linc this next weekend. But this was a fun last regular season win while watching most of the backups. This game felt like a preseason game as we watched third-string quarterback Tanner McKee beat the Giants defense. While the Giants are a bad football team, they played their No. 1 players for most of the game. Hats off to McKee for his first NFL and Eagles win as a starting quarterback. It was also nice to see Eagles WR Jahan Dotson getting 11 targets in this game for 94 yards.Vic Fangio's defense, mainly backups, played well against the Giants starters on offense. Holding them to just 13 points, we saw some nice play from all three levels of the defense.

Week 16 of the Philadelphia Eagles 2024-2025 season is now in the books as they lose their third game of the season to the Washington Commanders down in Landover, MD by a score of 36-33. The Eagles are now 12-3 on the season. While they are still first in the NFC East division, they have not yet clinched it.The biggest theme coming out from this game was Jalen Hurts exiting in the first quarter with a concussion. Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett came into the game and produced mixed results. Not great, not terrible. Just meh. Without Hurts being in the game, it showed us how valuable he also is to the rushing attack and what Saquon Barkley has been able to do game after game. Although Saquon Barkley ran for 150 yards in this game, and now has 1,838 yards on the season, he still had a tough time rushing the ball without the presence of Hurts. Two key drops from Barkley and WR DeVonta Smith were critical at the end of the game as well.Vic Fangio's defense had a rough afternoon as the injury bug was hitting his unit. Plus, C.J. Gardner-Johnson was ejected in the second half after receiving his second unsportsmanlike penalty. The linebacker play was phenomenal per usual, but the defense overall was gassed by the fourth quarter, as Jayden Daniels threw five touchdowns in this game overall. The Eagles defense hasn't given up that many touchdowns in any game this season.

Week 13 of the Philadelphia Eagles 2024-2025 season is now in the books as they beat the Baltimore Ravens down at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore by a score of 24-19. This was a game of running back versus running back, and Saquon Barkley took the running back torch from this game, and is arguably now the front-runner for the NFL's MVP award. However, the Eagles defense was at the forefront of this game holding the Ravens offense to only 12 points throughout much of the game until the Ravens scored a touchdown in garbage time with less than 20 seconds left in the game. Vic Fangio has this defense playing at a ridiculously high level.Jalen Hurts and the passing game, yet again, were not the focus of the game plan. In fact, Hurts didn't play well. It was a knock-down drag-out game as the Eagles were at times able to drive the ball well, and then other times saw a number of 3-and-outs in a row. What's interesting about this game is what might have happened if Justin Tucker didn't miss three kicks - two FGs and one extra point?

Week 11 of the Philadelphia Eagles 2024-2025 season is now in the books as they beat the Washington Commanders down at The Linc in Philly by a score of 26-18. This was the game that was to tell us more about the Eagles and the Commanders as two of the top teams in the NFC East and NFC in general. From the start, both teams looked like they were coming off a short week, which they were. The Eagles certainly did not play a great offensive game. They found ways to win late in the game mainly because of one Saquon Barkley.Jalen Hurts, once again, had a “tale of two halves” game against the Commanders defense. While us fans are glad he did not turn the ball over, it wasn't his best game this season. The defense was absolutely dominant, once again, this week. The secondary held star wide receiver Terry McLaurin to only 2 targets for a grand total of 10 yards. Commanders star quarterback, Jayden Daniels, had a very underwhelming perfornance in front of the Eagles fans at The Linc. Yet again, the Eagles defense is holding the rushing attack to under 100 yards. Vic Fangio has this unit heading in the right direction. As always, we gave our top themes, thoughts and opinions from the game on offense, defense, and special teams, and then graded each unit on both sides of the ball, as well as the coaching staff. It was great to have our friend of the pod Matt Rogers from the Honorable Mention podcast join us this week for some analysis.Head over to our website for all of our podcasts and more: philadelphiasportstable.com.Follow us on Threads:Jeff: @mrjeffwarrenErik: @slen1023The Show: @philadelphiasportstableFollow us on Twitter/X:Jeff: @Jeffrey_WarrenErik: @BrickPollittThe Show: @PhiladelphiaPSTFollow the show on Instagram: instagram.com/philadelphiasportstable.
