In this episode, Matt Rogers sits down with Candice Leinneweber, Director of Design at MA+ Architecture and 2025 EdMarket NextGen Award winner, for a wide-ranging conversation about what it takes to design schools that truly serve students. Candice shares her winding path — from a family bakery in San Diego, to an accounting class that sent her running toward architecture, to teaching college courses for seven years before becoming a licensed architect. The conversation digs into how her dual training in architecture and interior design shapes her approach to K-12 spaces, what it really means to design for security without creating a prison-like atmosphere, and the exciting Oklahoma Aviation Academy project currently under construction in Norman. Candice also shares her work chairing an AIA committee building a framework to expose K-12 students to careers in architecture and design. Takeaways: Design with the "why" first. Candice's core approach — whether working with a client, a contractor, or a student — is to keep asking why until you understand the real goal. That clarity is what separates a decision that holds up 20 years from one that just looks good on day one. Security and joy aren't opposites. A recurring challenge in K-12 design today is creating spaces that feel open, welcoming, and engaging while also meeting rigorous safety requirements. Candice describes threading that needle on the Oklahoma Aviation Academy by designing for visibility, hiding places in emergencies, and an inviting open atmosphere simultaneously. Meet students where they are. Whether through student surveys, post-occupancy research, or thoughtful space programming, truly student-centered design means designing for the full spectrum of learners — the quiet kid, the kinesthetic learner, the future engineer, and everyone in between. Flexibility is the best hedge against an uncertain future. Rather than betting on what education will look like in 30 years, Candice designs spaces that can be rearranged, reprogrammed, and adapted — so a learning stair can be a tour stop, a study group, and a pickup class depending on the day. Exposure is everything. Candice's AIA committee work is rooted in her own experience: she didn't discover architecture until late in college because she simply didn't know it was attainable. Creating pathways for students to shadow architects, visit job sites, and see what the field actually looks like can change the trajectory of a career. About Candice Leinneweber: Candice Leinneweber serves as Director of Design, integrating mentorship and leadership into the firm's design culture while guiding innovative K–12 education projects. She champions collaborative engagement with school stakeholders to deliver thoughtful, user-centered environments that support learning and community impact. Candice also chairs a K–12 architecture awareness initiative with The American Institute of Architects, partnering with local school districts to expand access to architecture and engineering careers through tours, site visits, and curriculum integration. There's no shortage of stats to demonstrate the sheer magnitude of our food waste problem: A whopping 40% of food grown for human consumption goes to waste; $400 billion worth of food gets thrown away every year in the U.S — roughly 1.5% of GDP; Food waste is responsible for 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Must we go on?That's why, after building the Nest Thermostat, Harry Tannenbaum and Matt Rogers turned their attention to our kitchens. They created Mill, a sleek appliance that quietly turns your food scraps into an odorless, coffee-ground-like material, and in the process, began changing the way people think about what they buy and throw away. And Mill isn't stopping at our kitchen counters. This week on Everybody in the Pool, Harry returns to the show to talk about how Mill is turning their attention to the places where food waste really piles up: grocery stores, restaurants, stadiums, and beyond. We talk about:Why food waste is a $400 billion problem hiding in plain sight, and why nobody's actually measuring itHow the data Mill collects is already changing consumer behavior, and what that means at commercial scaleWhat Mill Commercial looks like: a modular, dishwasher-sized unit that processes hundreds of pounds of food per dayThe Whole Foods partnership: deploying Mill infrastructure across all locations by 2027, backed by Amazon's Climate Pledge fundWhy dehydrated food waste going directly to chickens is a tighter, more valuable loop than compostingThe vision for residential distribution: bundled with waste services or utilities, the way Nest thermostats scaled through utilitiesLinks:Mill: https://mill.com/All episodes: https://everybodyinthepool.com/Join our Discord! https://discord.gg/2EsDhwQC2zSubscribe to the Everybody in the Pool newsletter: https://www.mollywood.co/Become a member for the ad-free version of the show: https://everybodyinthepool.supercast.com/ Hosted on Acast. Food loss and waste account for up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions and cost $1 trillion annually, according to the United Nations. About a third of all food grown on the planet gets wasted, rather than eaten. In developing countries, waste usually occurs between the field and the store, due to poor infrastructure, lack of refrigeration, and broken supply chains. In rich countries, most waste happens after food reaches the store, where consumers don't buy imperfect food – or buy too much and toss what they don't get around to consuming. Journey to Success in Coaching Matt shared his journey from a multi-sport athlete in Maine to becoming a successful coach, author, and hitting coach at Bowdoin College. He discussed his early experiences playing sports with his siblings and emphasized the values of faith, family, education, and sports instilled by his parents. Matt reflected on his college career at Bowdoin, where he initially struggled with the team's performance and culture but chose to stay, eventually leading the team to its best record in school history by his senior year. He highlighted the importance of perseverance and personal growth over winning records, and his recent book, "The Recipe for Being a Great Coach," explores these themes further. Matt's Coaching Journey and Philosophy Matt discussed his coaching career, which began in high school and continued through various roles, including assistant coaching at Deering High School and coaching basketball and baseball at different levels. He expressed a preference for coaching baseball and basketball, highlighting the psychological aspects of baseball and the ability to make in-game adjustments in basketball. Matt emphasized the importance of coaching as a way to instill work ethic, team spirit, and life lessons, regardless of age. Sports Beyond Records and Titles Matt discussed his journey of writing a book which focuses on the essential aspects of sports beyond records and titles, emphasizing shared experiences, friendships, and life lessons. Inspired by a friend, Dave Eid, Matt decided to transform his ideas into a book, which was surprisingly accepted by a publisher. He explained that the book is applicable to anyone seeking personal growth and leadership, highlighting the importance of being selfless and positive. Matt expressed his hope that the book would help others improve themselves and, in turn, assist others. There are some nights that entertain us. And then there are nights that remind us who we are. Today's episode is about one of those nights. On March 14th, 2026, at Briarpatch Farm in Eatonton, our community will gather for something bigger than a concert… bigger than an auction… bigger than a fundraiser. It's called “Honoring Our Heroes”, an evening dedicated to the men and women who have worn the uniform of this country and carried the weight of our freedom. This event brings together powerful stories, award-winning music, remarkable experiences, and one shared purpose: to stand behind our veterans, especially those who have been wounded in service to this nation. My guest today is James Lakeman, who alongside Mike Rainey and a dedicated team, is helping bring this vision to life. From keynote speaker Mark Nutsch, the real-life inspiration behind 12 Strong, to songwriter Matt Rogers, to wounded warrior Mario Lopez, this evening promises to be both inspiring and unforgettable. But beyond the lineup and logistics, this is a story about why we honor service. Why community matters. And why freedom is never free. So today we'll talk about how this event began, what it takes to build something of this magnitude, and what it means for our community to rally around those who have sacrificed so much. This isn't just a fundraiser. It's a statement of gratitude. And you won't want to miss the story behind it. Tune in Friday, January 16, 2026 @ 7pm EST/4pm PST/6pm CST for the next “He Said, He Said, He Said Live!” A Look atthe World from A Seasoned Black Man's Perspective… because one perspective isn't enough for “Let's Get Newsy XL (40).” Alvin, Bobby and Shawn turn up the volume with Let's Get Newsy XL — Episode 40, and the conversation is as big as the moment. We're starting with Washington, where the House has passed a three-year extension of ACA subsidies with bipartisan support, including 17 Republicans crossing the aisle—raising real questions about healthcare, politics, and what compromise looks like in this climate. From there, we shiftto a powerful human story as Vietnamese Buddhist monks make a 2,300-mile pilgrimage from Texas to Washington, D.C., carrying a message of peace, loving-kindness, and compassion that feels especially urgent right now. We'll also dig into stories that aren't getting the attention they deserve, including serious questions surrounding the killing of Keith Porter by an off-duty ICE agent in Northridge, Los Angeles, and why so little has been said about it publicly.Internationally, the Nobel Institute has reportedly rejected an unusual request involving Maria Karina Matata's office and a proposal to share a Peace Prize with Donald Trump, while closer to home, Yang and Matt Rogers are urgingsupporters not to waste money on Jasmine Crockett's Senate run. Add to that FIFA refunding roughly 16,000 members ahead of the 2026 World Cup amid U.S. boycott concerns, and there's no shortage of news to unpack. And then it's on to entertainment, where awards season is already heating up. Teyana Taylor has taken home a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, Sinners is dominatingthe conversation after winning Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and rivalries in music and film have everyone talking. Mary J. Blige is set to launch a Las Vegas residency in May 2026, sharing the spotlight with Bruno Marsas his tour kicks off the same month, while Jill Scott returns with a new solo project that has fans eagerly waiting to see what she brings next. Plus, the guys break down the fashion hits from the Golden Globes and give their take on who understood the assignment. It's news, culture, music, style, and unfiltered conversation—all in one place. This one is truly newsy for everybody, so tune in, tap in, and check us out this Friday on He Said, He Said, He Said LIVE.New Episodes of “He Said, He Said, He Said” - Live stream Fridays, 7 p.m. EST on all theselinks: https://linktr.ee/hesaidhesaidhesaid FACEBOOK: facebook.com/hesaidhesaidhesaidlive #AwardsSeason #GoldenGlobes #BlackExcellence #MusicAndCulture #EntertainmentNews #VegasResidency #NewMusicAlert #NewsCommentary #CurrentEvents #PoliticalConversation #HealthcareNews #PeaceAndCompassion #UntoldStories #CultureAndPolitics

Like a Law & Order episode, this Mini Ep was ripped from the headlines! Jason talks about two recent comedy news items: what people got wrong about Conan O'Brien's comments for comics to not just say "F--- Trump" with their humor and the bad press the podcast La Culturistas received when Matt Rogers commented on Jasmine Crockett's campaign. Jason talks about how crucial it is to see things clearly when you are trying to do comedy (or any art), the superpower it is to communicate something before the dust settles and more! Don responds to recent comments from Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers about Jasmine Crockett's run for Senate, and he doesn't hold back. Don takes a hard look at whether these remarks, and others like them, are rooted in racial bias and whether they reinforce harmful double standards that women of color routinely face when they seek higher office. On this week's show, Steve, Dana, and Julia merge their consciousnesses—so to speak—to reflect on Pluribus, the latest television saga from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. In this unlikely body snatchers/sci-fi mashup, Rhea Seehorn plays a woman intent on saving the world from… eternal happiness? Next, they turn to the ruminative and funny family drama Sentimental Value, directed by Norwegian auteur Joachim Trier and starring Stellan Skarsgård and Renate Reinsve. Finally, they take a look at a recent piece in The Ankler by Richard Rushfield crunching the numbers to reveal that, since #MeToo, troublingly few major films have been directed by women.
