Americans and the world are mourning and talking about the tragic and unexpected death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi, along with his pilot and 6 other friends. They were going to a game. I’m sure that when they boarded the helicopter, the thought that this might be their last night alive didn’t occur to any of the passengers. That’s just it. We are going to die. We are humans. That’s the way it works. However, what we don’t know is when or how. However where our souls go after we die is 100% up to us. That’s why I ask, “Are You Absolutely Sure that You're going to Heaven?” Are you confident in your salvation? This week, Bob shares a heart-warming story about the power of compassion. While these types of stories can be inspiring, Amy and Bob question whether they may also tie us further to this world. Are we meant to spend our time here caring for others or remaining focused on Heaven? Are the two mutually exclusive?
Welcome back to another week of the Just One Small Thing Podcast!! Continuing on our 'Fall Triduum' theme, we're discussing All Soul's Day today. Although the last day of this great Triduum of our Faith, it seems to be the 'middle child' in some ways... It's not an eve. It's not a Holy Day of Obligation. It's also kind of sad. We all have people we have known and loved and they've passed on and we're not exactly sure where they are... Did they go straight to Heaven? Are they still in purgatory? How exactly are we supposed to celebrate it? First of all, it's really truly beautiful that our Church gives us a feast day expressly to remember our beloved dead. Many (most?) of us will spend some time in purgatory after we die and the only way we can get to Heaven is the prayers of those on Earth or in Heaven. There are actually indulgences attached to praying for the dead during the month of November! It's also comforting to have this time to remember those we've lost personally. That's exactly what we do in today's episode... Nancy and I both share a bit about our beloved dead and discuss ways to remember and honor them on All Souls' Day and throughout the month of November. Some ideas are: Visit, clean, and decorate their graves (check out this beautiful tradition in Poland!) Speak their names Ask them to pray with you Display their pictures/names Pray the St. Gertrude Prayer (see below) We also discuss how we talk about death with our kids. As uncomfortable and sad it might be, death is a reality our children need to be aware of. We'd love to pray for your beloved dead too! Please comment here or email us so we can add them to our list. Your sisters in the small things, Nancy and Katie The St. Gertrude Prayer (pious tradition is that 1,000 souls are released from purgatory upon each recitation... more about that here): Eternal Father, I offer You the most Precious Blood of Your Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for all sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Overview - Only IF You Continue To Abide. 1 John 2:24-29. In our sermon today we focus on John’s command to Christians in vs 24: Therefore, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. He just told them to abide or stay in in what they had heard (from the disciples) from the beginning of knowing them. And in vs 26 he tells us that he gives them this command in light of what he says in his previous section, where he warns them that many antichrist’s had come teaching antichrist teachings, or teachings against Jesus Christ. Why would John give this command if once a person was saved they would always be saved no matter what they started to believe, or how they started to live? I believe that it is because a person is only going to go to Heaven IF they continue to abide IN Jesus THEEE Christ, His teachings, and His ways until they die, and I believe that John tells us the same thing here. I also believe that Jesus Himself warns us of the not continuing in Him until we die, so I go over numerous teachings from the Lord Jesus in the Gospel’s of Matthew and John. Does it matter if we continue to abide in Christ and His teachings after we are saved? Can a person come to be saved and be Heaven bound, but lose their way, their salvation, and their entrance into Heaven? Are you abiding IN Jesus THEEE Christ, and in His teachings? Take a listen and hear what Jesus, John, and I have to say on this matter, and leave me a comment. May God richly bless you as you seek Him.
Overview – The Perilous Last Days. 2 Timothy 3:10-17. Paul tells Timothy in this section of scripture, that evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived, in speaking of the last days. I believe that we are in the last days that Paul spoke of in this section, right now, April 2016. Who exactly is Jesus Christ according to the Bible? Do you know what the Bible really says about how someone gets to Heaven? Are you born again? What does it mean to be born again? There are many false teachings of the Bible today, and many churches and denominations don’t even encourage you to read the Bible for yourself. With us being in the last days right now, and Paul saying of these same last days, that these evil men would be deceivers, how do you know if your church has taught you the right answers to the questions I asked above? I have asked these questions to many, and most have given wrong answers according to what the Bible actually and literally says. So, in my sermon today, I talk about how you can actually know the answers to these questions, in the midst of all of the deception, and false teachings, that are around us today. The biggest question is this! Do you really care about your eternal life? God is, please listen to this message, the end is near!!! May God richly bless you as you seek Him Pastor Ed
