In 1979, instability, violence and chaos reigned in the streets of Iran. Revolution followed and swept a new government to power—a government that was no fan of the Christian faith.Things looked bleak for the Iranian Church. Many concluded the few Christians left in the country's “baby church” were doomed. But in a surprising twist, God turned the tables on the anti-Christian revolutionaries. Instead of shriveling on the vine, the local church blossomed under pressure. But how? Find out by tuning in to this encore episode of the Christian Emergency Podcast.Tat Stewart joins Andy Coleman to share what he witnessed as a missionary in Tehran in 1979. Learn from his fascinating background and a firsthand account you likely won't hear elsewhere. And if you are a believer concerned by the growing anti-Christian culture around you today, take courage from Tat's account. You probably never heard about Insider Bible translations. Don't worry. Few Christians, pastors or church mission committees have. But it's past time we learn about them and the risks they pose.Insider Bible translations remove or change Scriptural terms in an attempt to make them more attractive, or less offensive, to the Lost. These well-intentioned efforts have quietly spread into several missional contexts. But is it proper? How are Christians to make sense of what can be an intimidating, technical issue?Fortunately, help has arrived. The Arlington Statement on Bible Translation was published in 2020 and provides a simple framework to draw clarity from the confusion. On this encore Christian Emergency Podcast, Andy dives into these important issues with two amazing guests from Horizons International: Pierre Houssney, their executive director, and Seth Vitrano-Wilson, their director of biblical translations. If you are blessed by this episode, please leave us a five-star rating. Share a commentWhat if hope isn't a mood but a muscle that holds under weight? We take a clear-eyed look at the difference between wishful thinking and a living hope anchored in God's promises, then trace how that kind of hope changes how we suffer, work, and speak. Starting with everyday longings and honest humor, we move into the deeper currents: why hearts grow sick without hope, why confident expectation is not denial, and how Scripture trains our desires to rest on what God has said about our past, present, and future. From there, we focus on the question people actually ask when life gets loud: why do you still have hope? Peter's call to be ready with a gentle answer shapes our approach—no swagger, no arguments for sport, just credible lives and clear words. Along the way, we confront our rush for cultural quick fixes and see how God loves long timelines. The story of Johann Sebastian Bach becomes our case study: an orphaned musician who prayed “Jesus, help me,” signed “Soli Deo Gloria,” suffered deeply, died forgotten, and yet helped carry the gospel of hope across oceans and centuries. The arc reaches modern Japan, where rituals have thinned and despair often wins the day. Through performances of the Passion of St. Matthew, conversations bloomed around a single theme: hope in the midst of suffering and a future secured by the resurrection. Choirs formed, skeptics listened, and some found faith—not through a lecture, but through beauty done with excellence. That's the invitation for us too: use the craft we've been given, work with integrity, and let daily prayers turn labor into witness. If your world is tapping out the old question—Is there any hope?—the answer is yes. Let's learn to name it, live it, and share it with humility and joy. Greg Wheatley, host of the online music platform Sound of Majesty, joins Wayne Shepherd and gives a brief biographical sketch of two great composers. (click for more...) Website: www.soundofmajesty.orgIn this edition of First Person, Wayne Shepherd interviews Greg Wheatley, host of SoundofMajesty.org, about the life, faith, and musical legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach, with additional insights into Felix Mendelssohn. Wheatley explains that Bach, a devout Lutheran, viewed all his work as done for the glory of God, often signing his compositions “Soli Deo Gloria.” They discuss Bach's monumental St. Matthew Passion, highlighting its theological depth and intricate craftsmanship, originally written for Good Friday worship. The conversation also explores how Mendelssohn revived Bach's music nearly a century after his death, sparking renewed appreciation for his genius. Throughout the discussion, Wheatley emphasizes that classical sacred music, though sometimes perceived as complex, remains spiritually accessible and deeply moving for listeners today. A new MP3 sermon from Christ Church Presbyterian is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Soli Deo Gloria — Solo a Dios la Gloria Subtitle: The Five Solas Speaker: John Blevins III Broadcaster: Christ Church Presbyterian Event: Sunday - AM Date: 11/2/2025 Bible: Ephesians 1:3-14 Length: 35 min.
-Jeff Durbin- Proverbs 16:33, 19:21, 21:1 and 21:30. The universe is busy. The world is busy. Life is busy. Everything is always moving. Sometimes it seems like a machine, smoothly running. More often than not, it seems like the parts are colliding and going off course. There are so many moments where it feels like the conductor has left his station and nothing is where it's supposed to be. That's what a fallen world feels like. Out of control. Out of place. However, Scripture tells us throughout, that God remains in control. He is the sovereign. He not only ordains every moment, He also sustains these moments and carries everything along to its intended purpose. This is wisdom. To know this and to live and rest under the shade of this truth. Soli Deo Gloria!

Christians in the West see chaos growing: violent protests, unbiblical social movements, political instability and even pressures to shutter churches. So how should Christians respond? The Arab Springs offer a helpful case study of Christians responding in the midst of chaos. During the Arab Spring (roughly 2010 - 2012 AD), protests swept through many Middle Eastern countries and several governments fell. Poverty, extremism and war threatened the Christians who called those nations home. How they responded offers us clues in how we can respond to growing pressures today. "John," a Christian worker born and raised in Syria, returned to the Christian Emergency Podcast to offer insights from this chaotic period. Originally recorded in November 2020, this encore episode examines what Christians can expect in unstable days, thoughtful ways we can respond, and spiritual opportunities to look for. Through January 2026, protests have roiled the country of Iran. In response, the Islamic regime has brutally cracked down on the people. South Africa has been in the news lately, and for all the wrong reasons. Violence in the country has reached feverish levels. Yet few know much about their plight, and far too few have raised their voice on their behalf. So what exactly is going on in South Africa? What do Christians need to know about what their spiritual brothers and sisters in Christ are enduring?Louis Boshoff, a South African Christian, joins the Christian Emergency Podcast to answer these questions and more. The Church today – in the West and the East – facesmany challenges, yet is called to a momentous mission – namely, the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As challenges mount for the Church, carrying out our mission proves difficult. Not only that, some of those tasked with leading the Church have proven soft or ill-prepared.The need for courageous spiritual leadership in today's Church is massive. But with too few of her leaders exhibiting these traits, what is the Church to do? Throw up our hands and pine away about better days? Absolutely not.Instead, Christians and churches must take steps to shore up our leadership gap. This requires us to lean upon the Spirit and the Word. There are also practical tips that can be applied to develop courageous Christian leaders for the days ahead. To speak to these important issues, Pastor Joel Wayne joins Andy on this episode of the Christian Emergency Podcast. Joel shares helpful insights borne from his own experience leading churches and ministry efforts, both at home and abroad. Joel talks about the importance of partnership and strategic thinking, and also the simple willingness for leadersto pay a price if obedience to Christ so requires. If you find this episode helpful, please give us a positive rating and review wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.
