Is the distinction between being free to choose the right at one's own option, and not free to do the wrong, too subtle to be grasped, too elusive to be practical? It may be so, but it is precisely the distinction which we are aware of in our own lives so far as we keep ourselves consciously under the divine governance. We are free to go in the ways of right living, and have the happy sense of liberty of choice, but the ways of transgressors are hard. It's a bonus episode! I just wanted to share what life has been like this week as we are getting back into the groove of homeschooling after a long break from a regular schedule. This year we have switched things up a bit, so there is a bit of a learning curve for all of us in our family. So I hope it will be an encouragement to hear about our struggles and successes this week!In this episode, I share my love for Charlotte Mason, why we brought my son with sensory processing disorder and high functioning autism home from public school this year, and how our day one back to homeschooling really went. This episode is short and off-the-cuff, so there are no formal show notes on the Flamingo Feathers website today. But here's a link to the book I mentioned in the episode: A Charlotte Mason Companion: Personal Reflections on the Gentle Art of Learning by Karen Andreola. Today I'm talking about how I taught my kids to play, which leads into why we homeschool. If you feel like you always needs to entertain your kids and are looking for how to build the independent play skills in your children, this episode is for you! Key Points from this Episode: There is no one right way to do anything, schooling included! Even if you don't homeschool, you can take away ideas about how to run your household that can help your home life. Enabling kids to have the space to play out real life things (like kitchen sets) gives them so much imagination and freedom!) Recognizing kids' capabilities to feed themselves, wash themselves and dress themselves requires us to relinquish some control of our control, but opens the door to have the kids be able to be contributing members of our households. Charlotte Mason teaches that children are born persons. They have their own personalities and ambitions. Teach children to be a part of a family and a community.
