Daenerys and her host reach the walls of Meereen. She picks a champion to face the city's hero in man-to-man combat. She meets an old foe and is saved by an unlikely defender. Finally, she discovers two huge secrets and reels from the shocking truth. Mackelly and Simon thank the Seven it's not them who deceived her.Chapter Review:Daenerys Targaryen and her host of freed people make camp outside the walls of Meereen. A hero waits for Dany outside the city walls. Dany sends Strong Belwas to face the Meereenese hero. The fight doesn't last long, ending in Belwas decapitating the other man.Later, Dany discusses ways to defeat the city, with her council. Nobody has any useful ideas, so she dismisses them. While ruminating on the task in front of her, she considers Daario Naharis. Dany fancies him and wonders what it'd be like to take him as a lover. She puts the thought aside and goes for a ride, with Missandei and Arstan Whitebeard for company. Dany allows her people to touch her, as she rides by. However, one man pulls her from her saddle. It's Mero, the former commander of the Second Sons. Mero moves to kill her but Arstan instead easily defeats him.Back inside her tent, Dany wants Jorah to knight Arstan for his efforts. Both men balk at that. It's then that Jorah realizes who Arstan really is. He introduces Arstan as Ser Barristan Selmy, a traitor to the Targaryans, for serving under Robert the Usurper. Barristan scoffs at the hypocrisy and tells Dany of Jorah's treason, selling information about her and her brother to Lord Varys, as part of a pardon agreement. Dany is angry and hurt and sends both men away. However, on second thought, she has a great use for the pair of liars!Characters/Places/Names/Events:Daenerys Targaryen - Last remaining descendent of the royal Targaryen line, Stormborn, Mother of Dragons, claimant to the Iron Throne of Westeros.Ser Jorah Mormont - Exiled former Lord of Bear Island. How do you follow up the longest ever episode? By making the second longest ever episodes I guess! Yes it seems the end of Dance is really going to put us through our paces as the Isle has another three and a half hours of boogie time. And how to follow the big events of last week? By filling in the hole with new POVS! Here on welcome week we say hello to Cersei live from the penitentiary, we officially meet Barristan in a tightening Meereenese knot, remeet Victarion in some very very different waters, and to tie us back to what we know as the Tyrion of old truly returns in order to save the lives of he, Penny, and Jorah from slavery as battle looms... Today's chapters are: - Cersei I - Barristan I/ The Queensguard - Victarion I/ The Iron Suitor - Tyrion XII   Come visit our Isle for talks on how George is structuring his final act so differently than the first four books, how Cersei has learnt exactly ZERO lessons during her jail time and how actually loopy she is, the self-made chains of Barristan in terms of the difference between oaths and the right thing, the potential of his end coming via a Faceless Man, Victarion's stupidity regarding Daenerys, wonders on what the hell is going on with his hand, and especially on Tyrion taking on the role of responsibility while coming so close to despair and exactly why he wasn't allowed a glimpse at Drogon...   Check out History of Westeros for the live streams and main analysis: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiYwENpLDO4gyB4dBrMYrjQ Please do consider giving us a rating or review if you can, and find more of the Isle of Faces and other projects at https://www.patreon.com/IsleOfFaces https://twitter.com/SerBuckley Thanks as always!

It felt like it half-killed me to get it ready for you. But it is HERE and it is A MONSTER. Welcome, to the longest-ever episode of the Isle of Faces!!And why the incredible length? Because today we have not one but two of the most important chapters of the entire book and two of the major tentpoles of the series. We begin in a deep dark cave with deep dark secrets as Brandon Stark awakens his abilities even at the cost of his friends and we discover the true, awesome power of the weirwood trees. Yes, we're headed back in time. Smaller in scale though no less enjoyable is Jon Snow going on his own nostalgia trip as he heads back to the weirwood grove to make friends with a giant, Daenerys gets her own key leadership moment among the Astapori before betrayal is revealed to her, and then that scale mounts right back up again as Theon returns us to our first love...Winterfell, in a chapter rife with mystery, memory, and above all...pain. Our amazing chapters today are: - Bran III - Jon VII - Daenerys VI - Theon IV/ The Prince of Winterfell   So hop aboard the Isle for a chit-chat about... well what don't we talk about today? There are discussions on Bran's torture of Hodor, what might have happened to Meera Reed, and the thousands of possibilities opened up to us via the weirwood. There is Jon sending yet more friends away but also showing off his leadership in the field. There is Daenerys finally succumbing to the need for something good for once and her mini-victories against the terrible Meereenese wedding customs. And there is just about everything in Winterfell. The importance of the godswood, what Mance is upto, Theon's place as a Stark, Winterfell's failed purpose, and above all a very, very difficult talk on the tragedy of Jeyne Poole complete with some extremely loud cursing about the man who put her there.   Check out History of Westeros for the live streams and main analysis: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiYwENpLDO4gyB4dBrMYrjQ Please do consider giving us a rating or review if you can, and find more of the Isle of Faces and other projects at https://patreon.com/IsleOfFaces https://twitter.com/SerBuckley Thanks as always!

Davos' Fingers - A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast

Episode 62 has a heavy slant toward the Ironborn and Slaver’s Bay. First we meet the company of the Windblown, a company of sellswords hired to fight with Yunkai that also has our favorite little Dornish Prince. Next we get to crawl into the skins of perhaps the two most opposite Ironborn around, Victarion and Asha as they fight battles with very different outcomes. Tyrion is in Volantis, captured by Jorah Mormont, but given a ray of hope, and lastly Daenerys Targaryen comes to terms with a decision she has REALLY been wanting to avoid and she's doing it all for the betterment of the Meereenese. Check out our combined reading order at davosfingers.com or through its creator at Game of Owns at afeastwithdragons.com. This order brings the books together in a close to chronological order and we’ve been enjoying it! Our podcast is spoiler free for those reading along at our pace, so during the main portion of the podcast we stay away from spoiling future content.  But if you aren’t a first time reader and want some extra juicy speculation, stick around for Davos After Dark, our special final segment.
