Their immediate boss will be a functionary who goes by Nurse. He's the one they'll answer to. Tyrion convinces Nurse that Ser Jorah Mormont is part of the act, and he convinces Yezzan to complete the set. The knight is listless and inconsolable after learning that Daenerys Targaryen has married Hizdahr zo Loraq. Nurse has them watch a public punishment of slaves who tried to escape. It's revolting and convincing.Their first duty is to perform for Yezzan as he hosts the assembled warlords and nobility. It goes well and Tyrion curries more favor when he defeats Brown Ben Plum at cyvasse, winning considerable gold for his master at the expense of the sellsword. Nurse is pleased and says that Tyrion and Penny will perform in the grand fighting pits when they reopen. Grey Worm requests leave to bathe in the sea after the burning, revealing a religious rite of the Unsullied.Back in the city, Daenerys is reminded of her impending marriage to Hizdahr zo Loraq. The Green Grace and Reznak mo Reznak press her to endure the demeaning rituals required, including an intimate inspection by her groom's kin. She relents to some, knowing her legitimacy in the eyes of Meereen's nobles depends on it. She refuses once more to reopen the fighting pits herself but allows Hizdahr to do so after the wedding. The Shavepate is convinced that Hizdahr has this kind of control because he is in control - and thinks a bit of firm questioning would draw out a confession. Simon and Mackelly offer them fresh brown cloaks to turn.Chapter Review:Prince Quentyn Martell and his traveling companions survived the siege of Astapor, having signed up with the sellsword company the Windblown to earn passage to Slaver's Bay. Now, under the direction of the Yunkai generals, the company is turning their sights to Meereen. Quentyn knows it's time to desert before they end up fighting against the very woman he's been sent to marry. The task is easier said than done, as they have made friends in the company. Making matters worse, rumors are spreading around the camps about the horrible atrocities Daenerys has committed, causing the prince to second-guess his marriage plans.The Tattered Prince, the leader of the Windblown, has been given instructions to keep Astapori refugees away from Yunkai, as many carry the bloody flux. They are to turn them back to Astapor or drive them toward Meereen. However, the sellsword captain has his own plans. He assembles many Westerosi-born members of the company and orders them to secretly defect to Dany's side. He figures their Westerosi roots will make a good cover story for their defection to the Targaryen queen. She demands 90 days of no killing and she'll marry him on the 91st. Hizdahr rushes to comply.Last meeting of the day is with Daario Naharis. He's not thrilled with the news and the pair get into a heated argument. Dany sends him away and orders Ser Barristan Selmy to keep Daario from her presence in the future. She'll tax the masters to pay their wages and take hostages to ensure there is no recurrence.She comforts Missandei who pledges herself to her queen. While the child sleeps, Daenerys bathes and is visited by Quaithe who tells her to trust nobody: The kraken and the dark flame, the lion and the griffin, the mummer's dragon, the sun's son, and the performed seneschal.In the morning, Hizdahr zo Loraq again argues for the fighting pits to be reopened, bringing freed slaves who made their name and living there as witnesses. He's been murdered by the Sons of the Harpy, a group fighting a resistance war against her rule of Meereen. She orders that he be granted honorable funeral rites and that a hefty bounty is offered for information on the Sons of the Harpy.She spends the day hearing petitioners. Nobles want recompense for the losses that her rules has brought them, small folk have their own grievances. The fall of Meereen was accompanied by an orgy of lawlessness to which she has no choice but to turn a blind eye - she cannot execute or maim everyone in the city.The last petitioner bears the worst news. The dragons have grown increasingly wild and willful and farmer after farmer comes to demand the cost of their lost sheep. But the last one brings the charred bones of a human child.
