Cosa troverà Davos a Skagos?
Check out Cam's latest novel / audio drama here! Tyrion Lannister might be the most consequential character in A Song of Ice And Fire, so what does it mean when GRRM writes a chapter from his perspective where almost nothing happens? In this episode we're diving deep into the many misdirections of these apparently simple "set-up" chapters to find a litany of hidden prophecies and provocations. Maggie explores the contradictions of Tyrion's dual identity as court jester and power player. Cam continues our couplet comparisons to analyze the nature of combat, the evolving power of sigils, and the recurrence of ghost towns. We work together to question the series' unflinching commitment to side characters and reflect on GRRM's increasing narrative interest in both collateral damage and, more broadly, consequences. Spoilers, profanity, Jaime x Brienne. Dany's stuck in Meereen and so are we, and no one is happy about it. Guile calls these chapters Dany's office hours, and it's hard to disagree. Does anyone blame a fifteen year old for picking the least bad of fifty bad options? And look, GRRM, we agree that the Meereenese knot is indeed a quagmire, but if it was caused by a pacing problem couldn't we have sidestepped it altogether? A Song of Ice and Fire. Spoilers, profanity, Jaime x Brienne. In this Patreon exclusive, we deep dive on a listener prompt about the use of the phrase "I dreamed of you" in GRRM's expanded universe. Two of the characters who use this dream are Targaryens (or Targ adjacent) and two are Lannisters. Does it mean anything? Is the phrase for the dreamer or the dreamed of? Are two out of three instances romantic? Where does Tyrion fit in this mess? And does anything really beat Jaime saying it to Brienne? A Song of Ice and Fire. Special Episode - I dreamed of you?

Yikes, Scoob! This week, Emily and V hold their noses and sink into the cesspit that is the Tumblr blog of ASOIAF BNF and certified GOT Hater, Lindaaaa (Linda Antonsson). Check out Cam's latest novel / audio drama here! Chapter by chapter fantasy discussions lead us in some very strange directions. In this episode, Maggie does a deep dive into our characters' myopic, almost spiritual interpretations of the comet hanging overhead and then (not ten minutes later) she investigates the symbolism and historical implications of GRRM coding his aspiring kings with an assortment of precious metals. Cam explores the dueling mysticism and metaphor of the series' endless parade of ghosts before tackling the strange structural similarity of these two chapters and what could very well be a sweeping statement about cycles of history, dual identities, and the unavoidably tragic deaths of principled men. Fantasy — the genre that keeps on giving! LINKS: Patreon, YouTube, Spotify, Instagram Feedback & Theories: secondbreakfastpod@gmail.com

Check out Cam's latest novel / audio drama here! How extensive is the connection between the Starks and their direwolves? Is it a metaphor about house sigils and "the pack," or is GRRM suggesting something more monstrous and surreal? In this episode, we're chasing the direwolves of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' across space and time, culminating in a brand new theory about the creatures that Cam has dubbed "weirwolves". We also return to Maggie's (increasingly metatextual) Comet Corner and reflect on the brutally contemporary fascism of the Goldcloaks. Finally, we investigate the idea that both the books and the show slowly abandon the story's most surreal and fantastical elements. Danny and Kevin return to the Seven (or is it Nine?) Kingdoms for a light-hearted adventure with a guy that's really tall and a kid that's really small. Light-hearted, at least, by GRRM's world-weary and cynical standards. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which this podcast will hereafter refer to as "Dunk and Egg", is a wonderful departure from both the original show's grim and murky tone and Hot D's attempt to just do that again but more boring-er. And there is a massive hog in it. Follow us on Instagram at coffeeanddeathpod or email us at coffeeanddeathsticks@gmail.com
Stefan discusses with Quinn and Kuba about 'realism' in A Song of Ice and Fire and more generally in Medievalist Media, what Medievalism even means, and the disjuncture between GRRM's approach to 'realism' and what we see in the work of Brandon Sanderson (We'll actually probably talk about how Hot Pie is a Yi Ti landing strip) Read the weekly newsletter, "THE TIR SOUND OFF" here: https://www.patreon.com/collection/1853497 Check out our new bi-weekly series, "The Crisis Papers" here: https://www.patreon.com/bitterlakepresents/shop Thank you guys again for taking the time to check this out. Check out Cam's latest novel / audio drama here! And Just Like That … we're back in the world of Westeros doing chapter-by-chapter of A Song of Ice and Fire. A Clash of Kings opens with one big metaphor and a bunch of tricky new characters. Maggie's History Corner returns with a jaunt through the British Empire and a quick stop at Halley's Comet. Cam asks if Stannis is the new Ned Stark, and then worries that Davos is the new Lord Varys.
