Send us a textTyrion gets to know his new traveling companions, and, by dint of his cyvasse skills, some secrets about their mission. Haldon offers Tyrion a game of cyvasse while Young Griff studies further with Septa Lemore. Haldon has beaten Tyrion every previous game, so he eagerly accepts Tyrion's wager that the loser must share some secrets. In this Normal World episode, Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela pay tribute to Val Kilmer following reports of his passing. The conversation spans Kilmer's iconic roles, the impact of real movie stars, and how Hollywood's obsession with identity politics and DEI is ruining storytelling. They roast Disney's disastrous Snow White reboot, Rachel Zegler's PR missteps, and the industry's erasure of mid-budget, heartfelt films in favor of agenda-driven flops. They tackle the state of acting, the pressure of lead roles, studio cowardice, and the echo chamber killing creativity. From Star Wars failures to dwarfs losing roles to Peter Dinklage's hypocrisy, the crew calls out the absurdity. They dive into the loss of moviegoing culture, why conservatives should fund real art, and how AI dog translators might be the next nightmare. This week Josh and Jade review the movie musical Wicked, directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. It adapts the first act of the 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which was loosely based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel, itself a reimagining of the Oz books and the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. Lost yet? The film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Galinda the Good Witch, with Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum in supporting roles. Also, inside this episode our hosts discuss the casting of Nick Frost as Hagrid in HBO's Harry Potter series and the pending Duke lawsuit against the TV show White Lotus. Click play and enjoy!

Send us a textWhen LeBron James chose Pat McAfee's show over Black-hosted platforms to address Stephen A. Smith's criticism, he revealed the complex calculations Black public figures make in media. What does it mean when a Black superstar feels more comfortable in predominantly white spaces? Why do many prominent Black voices seek these "safer" environments for their most candid thoughts? The conversation deepens as we examine racial backlash against Marvel's Ironheart casting, exposing a disturbing pattern: even when characters are created as Black from inception (not "race-swapped"), certain audiences still react with hostility. This isn't about authenticity—it's about resistance to diversity itself. "Y'all just mad about seeing Black people," as one host aptly puts it, cutting through the pretense of legitimate criticism. We explore the unexpected controversy surrounding Peter Dinklage's criticism of the Snow White remake, where his advocacy inadvertently threatened job opportunities for other little people actors. This tension highlights how even well-intentioned criticism can have complex economic implications for marginalized communities, especially when coming from someone with established career security.Throughout our discussion, we examine how public figures from Rachel Zegler to government officials handle criticism and controversy in an age where personal expression, entertainment, and public perception continually collide. The striking contrast between accountability at different power levels—where everyday workers face severe consequences while political elites escape meaningful punishment for more serious lapses—reminds us that America's standards remain frustratingly inconsistent across racial, economic, and political lines.Join us for an unfiltered conversation that challenges conventional narratives about race, power, and whose voices truly matter in American media. Welcome back to Not A Bomb podcast, the show where we tackle cinema's biggest box office failures and decide if they deserve a second chance. Happy New Year, and thank you for supporting the podcast in 2025. After this week's choice, you might never want to listen to the podcast again. Troy and Brad had the best intentions. There was once a movie in which Gary Oldman, in the role of a lifetime, played a little person who happened to be the twin brother of Matthew McConaughey. Sounds fun, right? Well, not really. In this week's episode, the gang discusses the unbelievable film - Tiptoes. Trust us, this is a real film, but there isn't much else to say about it. If you tuned in to watch this one for the podcast, we apologize. Please, do not send us your therapy bill. Tiptoes is directed by Matthew Bright and stars Gary Oldman, Kate Beckinsale, Matthew McConaughey, and Peter Dinklage. Don't forget to check out our Not A Bomb Tee Public store for all your favorite podcast merch! Happy New Year! It's the new musical film everyone is talking about, so we figured we'd talk about it. Wicked: Part I! This 160-minute movie covers the first half of this epic adaptation of the popular musical adaptation Wicked by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, which is based on the 1995 novel Wicked by Gregory Maguire, which comes from the universe of L. Frank Baum's Oz books which were adapted into the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. Cynthia Erivo is Elphaba Thropp, who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, but it's gonna take a long time for her to get there. Along the way, she befriends Ariana Grande who plays Galinda Upland and encounters Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu and also stars Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, and Peter Dinklage. In this movie you'll hear hit songs like "The Wizard and I", "Popular", "Defying Gravity", and so much more. Listen to our thoughts and feelings on this fantastical episode!
Hosts Mike and Kenny discuss the blockbusting film adaptation of Act 1 of the musical Wicked which stars Cynthia Erivo, and Ariana Grande. Directed by Jon M. Chu. Wicked Pt. 1offers the back story of The Wizard of Oz's Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West as well as the Wizard. Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba, a child conceived via an affair with green skin and rejected by her father. Ariana Grande stars as Galinda, born into wealth and influence and seemingly perfect. Galinda and Elphaba become roommates and rivals at Shiz University where both quickly become the center of attention, and eventually friends. The film features outstanding vocal performances by Erivo and Grande as well as very strong visuals and production design. Jeff Goldbloom co-stars as the Wizard with Michelle Yeoh co-starring as Madame Morrible, the professor of magic. Jonathan Bailey co-stars as the romantic Prince Fiyero. Faith Spotted: The question of God in L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Where does evil / wickedness come from? The ability for narratives to cast wickedness on those undeserving of it as well as hide the wickedness and evil of others. Though our faith teaches we are all born into sin, what roll does environtmental elements and circumstances play in becoming evil/wicked? All persons are created by and are beloved children of God, therefore as persons of faith we are called to respect and preserve the agency of "others" regardless of their faith or place. As Christians we can celebrate the defeat of evil and the removal of the threat of evil and wickedness but we are not to celebrate the suffering or death of those who commit evil or wicked acts as this violates Christ's command to love all persons, even our enemies, as well as the command to forgive even one's enemies. While it can seem impossible, we are called to do so and can be empowered by God to do so. Persons of the Christian faith are not to blame persons or punish them for the sins of others. Article with novelist Gregory Maguire regarding faith present in Wicked. https://www.americamagazine.org/faith/2024/11/20/q-and-wicked-author-gregory-maguire-souls-saints-religion-oz-249323

Robert Winfree, Alexis Hejna and Mark Radulich present their Wicked Part 1 2024 Movie Review!Wicked (titled onscreen as Wicked Part I) is a 2024 American musical fantasy film directed by Jon M. Chu, and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, with songs by Stephen Schwartz. It is the first of a two-part film adaptation of the stage musical of the same name based on the 1995 novel, which in turn is based on the Oz books and the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.The film covers the musical's first act. It stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp and Ariana Grande-Butera as Galinda Upland, with Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum rounding out the principal cast. Set in the Land of Oz before the events of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, it follows Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and her friendship with her classmate Galinda, the future Glinda the Good.Universal Pictures and Marc Platt, who both produced the stage musical, announced the film adaptation in 2012. After a long development and multiple delays, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chu was hired to direct, with Erivo and Grande cast in 2021. The film was split into two to avoid cutting plot points and expand the characters' journeys and relationships. Principal photography began in England in December 2022, was interrupted in July 2023 by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, and was resumed and completed in January 2024.Wicked premiered at the State Theatre in Sydney, Australia, on November 3, 2024, and was theatrically released in the United States on November 22. Critical response was positive; the film was named one of the top 10 films of 2024 by the American Film Institute, won Best Film at the National Board of Review and earned four nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. It has grossed $455.6 million worldwide on a $150 million budget, becoming Chu's highest-grossing film. Wicked Part Two is scheduled for release on November 21, 2025.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

If you're unfamiliar with the plot of Broadway stunner, Wicked, fear not, director Jon M. Chu's (Crazy Rich Asians) big screen adaptation is a splashy note-for-note faithful interpretation of the acclaimed musical. If your gateway is Gregory Macguire's book by the same name, expect more committment to the musical's book than his source material. Wicked, a prequel to the Wizard of Oz, tells the story of the classic's central villian Elphaba, The Wicked Witch of the West and it's symbol of goodness, Glinda the Good Witch of the South. It's story opens with a Glinda arriving in Munchkinland in a glimmering bubble. To confirms for the citzenry that the witch is dead. It's a majestic start complete with a spectacular ensemble number. Under Chu's stewardship OZ comes to sparkling life. There are recognizable set pieces as well as a more expansive look at the land of OZ. The film adaptation retains the "PG" light touch by inferring much more than showing the darkness decending upon the land. Cynthia Erivio and Arian Grande-Butera are hands down a triumph as the film's Elphaba and Glinda. Both their vocals and dramatic interpretation of the leads distinguish their performances from any that've come before. In this meticulously built world the duo lead their talent-packed ensemble to create one of the best film-adaptation of a stage production ever. Wicked offers plenty for those longing for bright and colorful escapism. You'll laugh, gasp, and be amazed at each cinematic success (enough to forgive its varied visual effects shortfalls). The narrative leans heavily on its cast for its emotional peaks and valleys and they more ably respond. Christopher Scott's propulsive choreography delivers again and again. Erivo's blend of stoicism and defensive boldness aid a growing necessary edge. While Grande's pitch perfect switches between self-absorbsion, ambitious, perky benevolence adds the bounce and flair. Each balancing out the other in a delightful chemistry. But Holzman and Fox' decision to add only hints of the novel's deeper themes expose a script that fails to fully serve the narrative underpining all the visual pizzazz. Every shallow plot point and thin (secondary) character development between musical numbers turns into glaring oversight in the spotlight of Wicked's exhaustive runtime. So. if you were hoping that the extended (2 hours 40 minute) runtime - and cutting the story into two films - meant more (extremely important) parts of Macguire's Wicked would find its way into the screenplay, well then you'll likely come away disappointed. Perhaps the second half of this story coming November of 2025 will fill in those gaps. But despite this missed opportunity hindering Wicked from truly defiying gravity, its technical prowess behind and in front of the camera are worth a watch. Chu's sprawling production brings this origin story to life such verve and vibrancy your inner song-and-dance loving kid will not leave dissatisfied. Listen as Ro and Phenom discuss Wicked and somehow manage to keep it spoiler-free Wicked opens in theaters Friday, November 22. ♦♦ Director: Jon M. Chu Writers: Winnie Holzman, Dana Fox Starring: Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum Runtime: 2 Hour 40 Minutes Synopsis: Misunderstood because of her green skin, a young woman named Elphaba forges an unlikely but profound friendship with Glinda, a student with an unflinching desire for popularity. Following an encounter with the Wizard of Oz, their relationship soon reaches a crossroad as their lives begin to take very different paths. Like what you hear?
