Denzember concludes as Journalist and host of the Turbulence podcast Séamus Malekafzali returns to the show to discuss Edward Zwick's 1998 geopolitical thriller The Siege, a film about a Muslim terrorist cell wreaking havoc on New York City, the resultant fear it stokes, and the vidictive results of martial law being enforced in an American city. Largely lost to time as an artifact of The End of History, the film nonetheless rings with a startling prescience as a pre-9/11 document of Hollywood's casual anti-Arab sentiments (even among well-meaning liberal sects), and trust in American institutions to disavow bad actors and preserve democracy.We begin by dissecting the films amorphous, byzantine, and *totally fabricated* understanding of Middle Eastern geopolitics, and how its obfuscations function as a tool of propaganda, making the threat of Muslim extremism feel omnipresent and unknowable. Then, we consider how the film contends with imperial blowback, individuating it as mistakes by discrete actors rather than the guiding policy of America's geopolitical meddling across the globe. Finally, we reckon with the film's countless contradictions, its liberal posturing toward the "right" kind of wariness toward extremism, and its unconscious buttressing of the same ideologies that lead to fascist persecution of The Other. He's the one they'll answer to. Tyrion convinces Nurse that Ser Jorah Mormont is part of the act, and he convinces Yezzan to complete the set. The knight is listless and inconsolable after learning that Daenerys Targaryen has married Hizdahr zo Loraq. Nurse has them watch a public punishment of slaves who tried to escape. It's revolting and convincing.Their first duty is to perform for Yezzan as he hosts the assembled warlords and nobility. It goes well and Tyrion curries more favor when he defeats Brown Ben Plum at cyvasse, winning considerable gold for his master at the expense of the sellsword. Nurse is pleased and says that Tyrion and Penny will perform in the grand fighting pits when they reopen. OnePlus zet met de OnePlus 15 opnieuw nadrukkelijk een stap extra ten opzichte van de concurrentie. Op meerdere onderdelen doet het bedrijf er bewust een schepje bovenop: een snellere chip, een hoger refresh-rate-scherm en een grotere accu dan bij veel andere topmodellen. In De Schaal van Hebben kijkt techredacteur Stijn Goossens wat die ‘plus-één-aanpak’ in de praktijk betekent. De OnePlus 15 is een van de eerste smartphones met de nieuwe Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-chip, een processor die bij veel andere merken pas later wordt verwacht. Het AMOLED-scherm haalt een verversingssnelheid tot 165 hertz, hoger dan de 120 hertz die bij de meeste high-end toestellen gebruikelijk is. Opvallend is ook de bouwkwaliteit: OnePlus kiest dit keer voor uitgebreide water- en stofdichtheid, met zelfs een IP69K-certificering. Dat betekent dat het toestel bestand is tegen hoge-druk-waterstralen en extreme temperaturen. De grootste plus zit in de accu. Met 7.300 mAh behoort die tot de grootste in een smartphone. Dat is mogelijk door het gebruik van silicium-koolstof-batterijen, een technologie die meer capaciteit in een kleiner formaat mogelijk maakt. Opladen gaat met 120 watt, wat de laadtijd beperkt. De camera’s – drie keer 50 megapixel – leveren degelijke resultaten, maar blijven achter bij de absolute top. De samenwerking met Hasselblad is bij dit model beëindigd. Naast het topmodel is er de OnePlus 15R. Die kost met 700 tot 800 euro duidelijk minder en levert in op processor, camera’s en laadsnelheid. Daar staat wel een nog grotere batterij van 7.400 mAh tegenover. Following his successful Henry V adaptation, Branagh returned to Shakespeare for a much airier, light-hearted affair, fashioning the classic play into an immensely pleasurable studio romantic comedy while preserving the spirit and (more importantly) the language of Much Ado..., assembling a showstopper ensemble led by Branagh, Emma Thompson, Michael Keaton, Keanu Reeves, and Denzel as Don Pedro of Aragon, nearly 30 years before he would take on The Tragedy of Macbeth.  We begin with a discussion of Branagh's formal tendencies, how his maximalism works for the genre, and illuminate his underremarked upon technical prowess. Then, we discuss what Branagh's Much Ado...  preserves from Shakespeare's stage, what it omits, and how these ommissions speak to the film's position as an End of History artifact interested in reifying traditional family values centered around monogamous, heterosexual couplings. Finally, we discuss how Denzel's Don Pedro is utliized narratively and thematically in the film, and how Denzel's movie star persona and race factor into our perception of the character. El iPhone Air registra una depreciación inusual en pocas semanas. En solo diez semanas perdió más valor que cualquier otro iPhone reciente, según el análisis de SellCell. Los compradores están prefiriendo modelos con más batería y cámaras completas. Este comportamiento también llevó a varias marcas en China a detener proyectos de móviles ultradelgados.  La reacción del mercado plantea una duda clara: ¿vale la pena sacrificar funciones por un diseño tan delgado? El diseño ultradelgado complica funciones clave que la gente usa a diario  El iPhone Air nació como un esfuerzo por reducir al máximo el grosor. Su cuerpo de 5,6 mm parecía un avance estético fuerte, pero sus primeras semanas en el mercado mostraron otra realidad. SellCell midió una caída promedio de 44,3 % en su valor. Los modelos de 256 GB y de 1 TB concentran las cifras más marcadas, con depreciaciones superiores a 40 %.  Los iPhone 17, en cambio, pierden menos valor. Los Pro y Pro Max tienen mejor batería, mejor gestión térmica y sistemas de cámara más completos, elementos que los compradores buscan. En esa categoría, el iPhone 17 Pro Max de 256 GB cayó 26,1 %, una cifra mucho menor y estable.  Mientras las curvas de depreciación de los iPhone 17 se estabilizan, la del Air sigue bajando, lo que indica poco interés de reventa y poca demanda sostenida.  El Air compromete funciones importantes para mantener su cuerpo delgado. La batería de 3.149 mAh es menor que la de los modelos recientes, y el sistema de cámara se reduce a un único sensor trasero. También carece de ranura para SIM física y tiene un solo parlante. Estos recortes afectan el uso diario y aumentan la sensación de limitación frente al precio de venta.  Ese precio fue un obstáculo en varios países. En Indonesia, la versión de 256 GB ronda los 1.400 dólares. Los modelos de mayor capacidad se acercan al precio de un iPhone 17 Pro, que ofrece cámara triple y mayor batería. Para muchos compradores, la comparación dejó al Air en desventaja.  En China, el panorama es similar. El teléfono es una herramienta central para pagos y servicios digitales. Allí, marcas como Xiaomi, Oppo y Vivo cancelaron o aplazaron sus propios modelos ultradelgados. Foxconn desmontó líneas de producción del Air y Luxshare dejó de ensamblarlo.  Huawei mantuvo su apuesta con el Mate 70 Air, que logra un balance distinto. Tiene 6,6 mm de grosor, pero conserva batería grande, carga rápida y triple cámara. Para varios analistas, esa combinación muestra que un diseño delgado puede funcionar si no afecta funciones esenciales.  En el resto del mercado, el mensaje es claro. Cuando un teléfono recorta capacidades para verse más delgado, pierde atractivo. Las personas valoran cámaras completas, buena batería, carga rápida y estabilidad en el uso diario. Ese equilibrio mantiene el valor de reventa.  Apple sigue trabajando en un posible Air 2. Las expectativas giran alrededor de cómo va a ajustar el diseño para evitar otra caída de valor. También hay interés por lo que traerá el iPhone 18, que podría reorganizar la familia de modelos. They are also eyeing Pretty Pig with hungry looks. To distract and amuse them, Tyrion agrees to joust with Penny. He's kind of hopeless, but she points out that that is rather the point. Afterward, he goads Mormont about his plans for Tyrion and Daenerys until the knight knocks Tyrion's tooth out. A pyrrhic victory right there.Finally a wind picks up, but it portends an almighty storm and Moqorro admits that the ship was never going to reach Qarth, not because it was going to redirect to Meereen, but because this storm was going to destroy it. The storm is immense and the ships is ruined. It comes through still afloat but with no mast, no Moqorro, flooded lower sections, and no hope of survival. But a ship is spotted headed their way. This Graham Platner saga just keeps delivering. Every time I think we've hit the ceiling on oppo drops, the elevator dings and we're in a whole new suite of controversy. It's not that the content was entirely new in tone. We've already seen him refer to himself as an Antifa supersoldier and admit to having an SS tattoo (which, to his credit, he covered up). But the latest batch of Reddit posts that surfaced added a thick layer of ugly homophobia. Explicit posts. Graphic anecdotes. And not from his teenage years or during some misunderstood youthful rebellion. These posts span several years, even continuing into the Biden administration.I've always said that if you're running as an outsider candidate, having some skeletons in your closet isn't necessarily a bad thing. It can actually help. Nobody expects a populist outsider to be perfect. The electorate doesn't want a robot. They want someone who talks like them, even if it means sometimes saying the wrong thing. And even as Platner tests the outer limits of that rule, here's the twist: the polling. A new University of New Hampshire poll of likely voters in Maine had Platner at 58 percent. That's not just a lead. That's a blowout. Janet Mills is at 24 percent. If those numbers hold up, then Chuck Schumer and company are right to be panicking.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. Carefully worded statements about how he doesn't think that way anymore. But from where I sit, this guy is doing everything but what he should. If I were advising his campaign, I'd be yelling: go on offense. The proper response to all of this should be simple — I deleted the posts before you ever knew my name. I deleted them because they didn't reflect who I am anymore. That's growth. That's accountability. And that's all anyone should expect. Instead, we get these soft, hedged statements. You're not going to convince anyone that you're the perfect candidate — stop trying.What kills me is how obvious the pressure is from the Democratic establishment. You can feel Chuck Schumer's fingerprints all over this. They're running the classic drip-drip-drip strategy, hoping to humiliate Platner into dropping out. But if you're Platner — and especially if you believe those polling numbers — why would you flinch? Schumer and Mills are the ones who should be sweating. They've failed to unseat Susan Collins time and time again. They trot out the same kind of “perfect” candidate every cycle and lose. And now, when someone is actually running strong in the polls, they're scrambling to blow it all up.I'm not defending what Platner posted. It was gross. And people are right to be upset. But this is a high-stakes game, and the voters of Maine seem willing to give him a shot. The question now is whether Platner will take the opportunity and run with it — or keep playing defense while the party machine steamrolls him. Personally, I'm tired of watching him take these hits and not swing back. I've been saying it all week. If you want to win, you have to punch. You can't win a Senate seat on your heels. Mackelly and Simon refuse to take the bait.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister arrives in Volantis as a prisoner of Ser Jorah Mormont. He tries all his tricks to wheedle out of his predicament but gets nowhere. In the city, they see the High Priest of R'hllor preaching a pro-Daenerys message to a multitude of slaves, who are here for all of it. Tyrion feels the same atmosphere as when King's Landing rioted.They learn that the Golden Company is headed to Westeros, and the Triarchs are happy to help. Tyrion is amazed that Aegon took his bait. But wonders if it is a ruse, and that Griff's destination remains Meereen.They meet the Widow of the Waterfront, a wizened former slave and business-woman. Ser Jorah asks for passage, not to King's Landing, but to Meereen! Tyrion is ecstatic. Jorah tanks his way into her bad books, but the situation is saved when Penny, a dwarf, attacks Tyrion. Her brother died at the hands of those seeking Cersei's favor, and she blames Tyrion.
