He is once again propositioned by Abel's women. Simon and Mackelly consult their IP lawyers.Chapter Review:Theon Greyjoy continues to haunt Winterfell, and Winterfell returns the favor. The blizzard rages on, making the living conditions increasingly intolerable. Ropes are strung between the buildings to prevent people from getting lost. Men start turning up dead. The first couple are explained away as accidents, but the third is clearly murder. Furthermore, the newly constructed stable collapses. The great hall, already redolent of men and dogs, is now used to house the displaced horses. Another of Abel's women tries to befriend Theon, but he still senses a Ramsay trap and avoids her. He's dragged before Lord Roose Bolton, as he's one of the few people who wanders the whole castle, and therefore has the opportunity (and let's be honest, the motive) to sabotage the Bolton cause. His demeanor and physical decrepitude end any suspicion. A warhorn appears to herald Stannis' arrival and cause panic within the Walls. Theon, knowing that for him Stannis does not represent salvation, goes to pray in the godswood. There he is again haunted by his crimes, hearing his name and seeing Bran's face in the heart tree. Abel's women again accost him. Mackelly and Simon feel their pupils dilate.Chapter Review:Arya Stark's education continues apace in the House of Black and White. Without her sight she's developing her four other senses. In addition, she's learning languages, potions, and poisons. More painfully she's learning how to defend herself against silent assailants in the dark. It's not going well. Her duties involve locating and helping prepare the night's corpses. She tries to infer the stories of the dead from the touch of their skin; disease, wounds, old age, and so on. In the evening she begs in the city's watering holes and is charged to return with three knew pieces of information. She's acquired a friendly cat through whom she can, when she stills her mind, see the people she's spying on.When the Kindly Man asks her for her new intelligence, she tells him that she's figured out that it is him who's been attacking her in the dark. She hits him on the knuckles with her staff. He's amazed that she's figured it out, not noticing the cat prowling the rafters. Simon and Mackelly suggest they keep the giant out of the liquor cabinet.Chapter Review:Lord Commander Jon Snow greets Queen Selyse Baratheon. She and her entourage have stopped at Castle Black on their way to the Nightfort. Before escorting her and Princess Shireen to the King's Tower, Jon warns the queen about the state of the Nightfort. The queen is undeterred. On the way to their quarters, the group meets Wun Wun, the giant currently living at Castle Black. He bends the knee to the southern royalty, but his laugh frightens the party and steel is drawn.Tycho Nestoris, an emissary of the Iron Bank, is part of the queen's party. As the Lannisters are refusing to make the crown's payments, Tycho will offer the bank's backing, if Stannis agrees to shoulder the debt. Jon and Tycho come to terms on a loan from the bank that will allow the Night's Watch to buy food to survive the winter. Jon also negotiates the use of Tycho's three ships, to add to the rescue party to bring the wildlings at Hardhome south of the Wall.Later on, Jon is told that a girl has been found and is resting in maester Aemon's chambers. Jon is hopeful he'll be reunited with his sister Arya. However, the girl is too old. She turns out to be Alys Karstark. She's seeking protection from Jon from her uncles, who plan to marry her off, create an heir, then remove her from the picture. He grew up around movie sets thanks to his father, the legendary production designer Tony Masters (2001: A Space Odyssey, Papillon, Dune), and started his own journey at 19 when he spent eight months in China on Tai-Pan — the first Western movie ever shot there. Dom talks about learning the foundational skills of drafting, the early struggles of finding work in the British film industry of the mid-80s, and the unique lifestyle of moving from production to production — that strange micro-community that forms on set, often in far-flung locations.  We cover his experiences on Titanic working under James Cameron, the shift from physical sets to set extensions and digital workflows, the evolution of the art department, and how shows like House of the Dragon demand an enormous level of coordination, creativity and technical precision. Simon and Mackelly hope she's packed her thermals.Chapter Review:Stannis Baratheon's army winds out of Deepwood Motte. Among the baggage rolls Asha Greyjoy, fettered and guarded by Alysane “She-Bear” Mormont. Asha is Stannis's living trophy for the lords of the north. The king plans to march 100 leagues through the forest in 15 days to Winterfell. A feat many of his followers claim his brother Robert would have done in 10 days. But this king is not his brother.Asha watches Stannis's grim procession with a broken ankle and a sharper mind. She recalls kneeling before him to save the last nine of her men and finds no mercy in the king, only duty. The southrons doubted the march but the northmen insisted.Snow begins on the fourth day and never stops. Wagons vanish through ice, men freeze or simply sit down to die. The queen's men call for a sacrifice to please their red god. “Pray harder,” Stannis tells them. Each night brings a smaller campfire and a growing list of losses. By day 20, Asha's cart horse dies. Her shackles come off, but she must walk. The food's gone, the grain's gone, and hope is dwindling. Only the northmen seem unaffected by "autumn's kiss."At last they find a crofter's village. An opportunity to fish the frozen lake and huddle in the storm. Come morning, there are no trumpets, no warhorns, only white silence. Simon and Mackelly try to see light at the end of the tunnel.Chapter Review:Theon Greyjoy roams Winterfell considering whether he might escape. But since The Iron Islands are death to him, and Winterfell is the only home he's ever known, where would he go? Intel arrives that the snow storm that blights the castle has impacted Stannis even more - his march has ground to a halt.Rowan, one of Abel's women, asks Theon to describe how he took Winterfell, so that he might be immortalized in song. He refuses to share. Her kindness reeks of a Ramsay trap. Sour Alyn has been telling people that Ramsay keeps Arya chained naked to the bed. Theon knows this not to be true as he acts as her maid. She is bruised and frequently in tears however.Barbrey Dustin thinks those tears are more dangerous than Stannis' swords. The north fear the Boltons but love the Starks. A sentiment that she doesn't share. She confides in Theon why she hates the Starks and why she's looking out for Ned's bones headed north. Mackelly and Simon move things from the frying pan into the fire.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister, Penny, and Jorah Mormont are still aboard the Selaesori Qhoran AKA “the Stinky Steward.” It's been becalmed for nearly two weeks and the sailors are beginning to question if Tyrion and Penny are actually lucky. They are also eyeing Pretty Pig with hungry looks. To distract and amuse them, Tyrion agrees to joust with Penny. He's kind of hopeless, but she points out that that is rather the point. Afterward, he goads Mormont about his plans for Tyrion and Daenerys until the knight knocks Tyrion's tooth out. A pyrrhic victory right there.Finally a wind picks up, but it portends an almighty storm and Moqorro admits that the ship was never going to reach Qarth, not because it was going to redirect to Meereen, but because this storm was going to destroy it. The storm is immense and the ships is ruined. It comes through still afloat but with no mast, no Moqorro, flooded lower sections, and no hope of survival. But a ship is spotted headed their way. Unfortunately, as it nears Mormont is able to guess from the stench that it is a slave ship.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Tyrion Lannister - Youngest son of Tywin Lannister whom he murdered. Mackelly and Simon roll out the barbed wire and start digging the trenches.Chapter Review:In the Old Palace of Sunspear, Areo Hotah watches as Maester Caleotte delivers an ebony chest to Prince Doran Martell. Inside is the skull of Gregor Clegane, which Obara Sand places on a marble pedestal. Doran declares that “the Mountain rides no more.” Ser Balon Swann, there on behalf of Queen Cersei, is made uneasy by the spicy food, the politics, and Princess Arianne's careful attention.Cersei's letter requests that Myrcella visit King's Landing, with Trystane to accompany her and Doran to take Oberyn's seat on the small council. Doran suggests they travel by ship, and Balon's reluctance to travel by sea does not go unnoticed.After the feast, Doran gathers Obara, Nymeria, Tyene, Arianne, Ellaria, and Hotah in his solar. Ellaria breaks at the Sand Snakes' refusal to accept the end of the blood feud with the Lannisters, rejecting the endless cycle of vengeance. When she leaves, the Sand Snakes demand war, but Doran forces them to swear obedience before revealing that Cersei's invitation is a trap meant to kill Trystane on the road. Instead of violating guest right by killing Swann, Doran assigns each Sand Snake a role: Obara will lead Swann to hunt Darkstar, Nymeria will escort Myrcella to court and take the small council seat, and Tyene will infiltrate the Sept of Baelor. The misery is staggering: starving families, corpses crawling with flies, and the sick defecating where they lie. She orders food distributed and bodies burned, but even as she tries to act mercifully, Ser Barristan warns that resources must be held for the siege to come. Grey Worm requests leave to bathe in the sea after the burning, revealing a religious rite of the Unsullied.Back in the city, Daenerys is reminded of her impending marriage to Hizdahr zo Loraq. The Green Grace and Reznak mo Reznak press her to endure the demeaning rituals required, including an intimate inspection by her groom's kin. She relents to some, knowing her legitimacy in the eyes of Meereen's nobles depends on it. She refuses once more to reopen the fighting pits herself but allows Hizdahr to do so after the wedding. Over dinner, Hizdahr reassures her that such traditions are relics of the past they can sweep aside together.Their talk is interrupted by Daario Naharis' arrival. He is wounded but full of swagger, bringing word that Astapor has fallen and Yunkai gathers a formidable host with new allies. Worse, the Second Sons and Brown Ben Plumm have gone over to the enemy. Daenerys feels betrayed, wondering if this is one of the foretold three treasons. She orders Meereen's gates shut and the defenses readied. Finally, she clears the room and tends to Daario's wounds. The usual naysayers say nay, but Jon is adamant and takes Ghost along for added protection. They find a grove of weirwoods occupied by a sorry gang of refugee wildlings and a giant. Jon avoids bloodshed and the people (and giant) are invited to return to the Wall under their protection. They do - they don't have much choice. Simon and Mackelly sift through the flames and try not to get burned.Chapter Review:Melisandre searches the flames for Stannis and the girl on a dying horse. She doesn't find her king or the girl but does see much else, including omens of Jon Snow. She reflects on her past and the dangers of misinterpreting prophecy.She sends for Rattleshirt to rescue the girl she insists is Arya Stark. One of her earlier predictions to Jon comes to fruition, as three rangers' heads are found on spikes north of the Wall. Jon asks her to look for the other six men in her flames and she asks him to attend her in her chambers. There Jon is stunned to find Rattleshirt. Melisandre tells Jon that Rattleshirt is the answer to Jon's needs. He can rescue Arya while Jon stays at Castle Black and fulfills his Night's Watch vows. Jon will not have this murderer anywhere near his sister. Melisandre is left with no choice. She removes the glamor and Rattleshirt transforms into Mance Rayder.Melisandre admits the man who burned earlier was Rattleshirt glamored as Mance. She reiterates that Mance is Jon's best bet to save Arya. Simon and Mackelly fuss over the bride-to-be.Chapter Review:Daenerys Targaryen clashes with Admiral Groleo. He wants her to unleash the dragons on the blockading ships, she wants him to build ships and fight her enemies. Thus far Hizdahr zo Loraq has been true to his word: 26 days with no murders.Skahaz mo Kandaq, the Shavepate, has been spying on Hizdahr and reports that he has visited 11 of the great families' pyramids. The Shavepate is convinced that Hizdahr has this kind of control because he is in control - and thinks a bit of firm questioning would draw out a confession. Daenerys doesn't doubt Skahaz' ability to extract information, she just doubts its usefulness.The Green Grace reports that a rider has come from Astapor bringing the Bloody Flux with him. More refugees follow and Daenerys determines that they will be kept outside the city walls with an attempt made to keep the sick away from the healthy. Brown Ben Plum returns and also encourages Dany to use her dragons. She is unmoved. But on reflection she realizes that she cannot face the external threat until she's suppressed the internal one. However, if Davos can find and return Rickon Stark, then that would seal the deal. Mackelly and Simon debate who that might be.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth is kept waiting for his execution. The gaoler refers to him as “The Dead Man,” but he's fed and has more than decent accommodation. After several days Robett Glover comes and takes him through secret and circuitous means to a chamber within earshot of obvious festivities.They're joined by Lord Wyman Manderly. He apologizes for the disrespect that Davos was shown. But while the Lannister, Frey, and Bolton alliance held his remaining son Wylis, he was forced to play along. But the feast that can be heard is to welcome the heir home - and Lord Wyman can let the mask slip a little. A ruse was pulled, a criminal was made to look like Davos and executed - his head and hands were displayed above the walls, heavily tarred and distorted with an onion in the mouth.Davos is ready to seal the alliance between Stannis and the Manderlys. But lord Wyman's not there yet - the Bolton's are cementing their claim to the North by marrying Arya Stark, but courtesy of Theon's former squire Wex, they know where Rickon Stark is. If Davos can return their rightful liege lord to them, then Stannis will have his ally. One of those nine is Ser Alliser Thorne, who is not happy about the assignment. He tells Jon that if he dies by an Other's blade, he'll be back for Jon as a wight. Afterward in the yard, Jon spars with three green recruits at once, easily defeating them. Rattleshirt is unimpressed and challenges Jon to fight a real man. When the fight begins, Jon is surprised by Rattleshirt's prowess with a sword. Eventually, the wildling has to be dragged off Jon.Clydas interrupts with a letter from Barrowtown bearing the seal of House Bolton. Warden of the North Roose Bolton has returned and requires fealty from the lords of the kingdom. He also wishes for their attendance to celebrate the marriage of his son Ramsay to… Arya Stark. Jon is stunned. He thought his sister died in King's Landing.That evening he runs into Melisandre alone in the yard. She foretells him that his sister Arya will arrive at Castle Black, fleeing her forced marriage. She then bonds with Ghost, much to Jon's surprise. She tells Jon that three of the rangers he sent north will not survive. Jon will only find their eyeless heads. Mackelly and Simon refuse to take the bait.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister arrives in Volantis as a prisoner of Ser Jorah Mormont. He tries all his tricks to wheedle out of his predicament but gets nowhere. In the city, they see the High Priest of R'hllor preaching a pro-Daenerys message to a multitude of slaves, who are here for all of it. Tyrion feels the same atmosphere as when King's Landing rioted.They learn that the Golden Company is headed to Westeros, and the Triarchs are happy to help. Tyrion is amazed that Aegon took his bait. But wonders if it is a ruse, and that Griff's destination remains Meereen.They meet the Widow of the Waterfront, a wizened former slave and business-woman. Ser Jorah asks for passage, not to King's Landing, but to Meereen! Tyrion is ecstatic. Jorah tanks his way into her bad books, but the situation is saved when Penny, a dwarf, attacks Tyrion. Her brother died at the hands of those seeking Cersei's favor, and she blames Tyrion. She had thought her brother dead. She has sex with Qarl the Maid. While he sleeps she gets a snack and meets her other love interest Tris Botley. They speak of future plans but she's dismissive and quite cruel. He reminds her of a historical kingsmoot that was overturned when the heir-apparent was not invited. A lightbulb goes off, but is immediately forgotten when war-horns sound. The northern clans have come. Now, under the direction of the Yunkai generals, the company is turning their sights to Meereen. Quentyn knows it's time to desert before they end up fighting against the very woman he's been sent to marry. The task is easier said than done, as they have made friends in the company. Making matters worse, rumors are spreading around the camps about the horrible atrocities Daenerys has committed, causing the prince to second-guess his marriage plans.The Tattered Prince, the leader of the Windblown, has been given instructions to keep Astapori refugees away from Yunkai, as many carry the bloody flux. They are to turn them back to Astapor or drive them toward Meereen. However, the sellsword captain has his own plans. He assembles many Westerosi-born members of the company and orders them to secretly defect to Dany's side. He figures their Westerosi roots will make a good cover story for their defection to the Targaryen queen. Galazza has a suggestion for the queen: marry a Ghiscari. This will cement her position and give her support with the Great Masters. Her suggestion is Hizdahr zo Loraq. Dany meets with Hizdahr, and while there is no love and affection, he promises that he can bring peace to Meereen. She demands 90 days of no killing and she'll marry him on the 91st. Hizdahr rushes to comply.Last meeting of the day is with Daario Naharis. He's not thrilled with the news and the pair get into a heated argument. Dany sends him away and orders Ser Barristan Selmy to keep Daario from her presence in the future.
