Mackelly and Simon give him a pep talk.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth arrives in White Harbor aboard the Merry Midwife. He's disguised as a common sailor. Game of Thrones continues to impress us with its plot twists. Stories from behind the scenes of your favorite TV show can be just as interesting as the main plotlines. The Dothraki language has a vocabulary of over 3,000 words and continues to grow. The language was created by David Joshua Peterson for the TV series. The recipe for pigeon pie was not created by George R. R. Martin: he borrowed it from the 16th-century author Giovanni de' Rosselli. Game of Thrones hit all the possible ratings and became the most pirated TV series of all time. In one episode, one of the spikes at the Red Keep displays the prosthetic head of a former President George Bush. The directors of the show sell replicas of the actual Iron Throne for $30,000 (height: 7′ 2″; weight: 350 pounds). A replica of Gandalf's sword from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit is forged inside the Iron Throne. Sansa's clothing has sent very deliberate messages to her allies and her enemies on multiple occasions. Her wedding dress tells us her life story: a trout and a wolf on the belt mean that she was born in House Stark and House Tully. Mackelly and Simon bow their heads in prayer that she knows what she's doing.Chapter Review:Queen Cersei Lannister rides to the Great Sept of Baelor with Taena Maryweather. Taena fills Cersei in on the men in Margaery's court. The list is filled with most of the young, handsome knights in King's Landing. Therefore, the addition of Grand Maester Pycelle stands out. The going is slow. The litter is blocked by sparrows clogging the streets. Ultimately, Cersei walks the remainder of the way. Upon seeing a pile of bones of slain faithful, Cersei promises to seek revenge. However, the sparrows want only protection for the living.Inside the sept, Cersei is shocked to see septons on hands and knees scrubbing. When she meets the High Septon, she says he should have met her in his finest robes and a crystal crown, not wet and dirty. He explains that they've sold their crowns and fine robes. Cersei asks to speak in private. They kneel at the feet of the Crone. Cersei wants the sparrows gone from King's Landing and a blessing from the High Septon for King Tommen. The High Septon wants better protection from the king for the faithful throughout the realm. Cersei suggests they protect themselves, but a law prohibits the faith from taking up arms. She offers to abolish the law for a blessing for the king and forgiveness on the crown's debt to the faith. The High Septon agrees. On the ride back to the Red Keep, Cersei's festive mood is killed by the sight of Queen Margaery and her court. The two queens exchange pleasantries and barbs. While they wait, her friend Garin shares news of the sighting of Arianne's brother Quentyn Martell in Planky Town seeking passage across the Narrow Sea. This only affirms Arianne's suspicions that Quentyn seeks the aid of the Golden Company to steal Arianne's birthright. With the new queen of the Seven Kingdoms on her side, and the support of the vast majority of the Dornish, Arianne will be sure to foil any of her brother's plans. When Ser Arys and Princess Myrcella arrive, Aryanne explains to Myrcella that Myrcella is the rightful queen and that Tommen has fallen in with bad advisors who have robbed her of her birthright. Cersei meets with her new handpicked Small Council who blithely make momentous decisions with huge ramifications. Simon and Mackelly watch on in despair.Chapter Review:Queen Cersei is, not for the first time, disappointed to find the severed head of the wrong dwarf presented to her. She offers no punishment to the murderers for fear of deterring those hunting Tyrion. She and Qyburn head to the Small Council. He has prepared the skull to be sent to Dorne to satisfy the Martell's grievance against the now, presumably dead, Gregor Clegane. The Small Council is at full complement - with men Cersei has personally elevated not because of obvious talents for their positions, but due to perceived loyalty. It doesn't make for a very thoughtful meeting. They decide to stay out of the trouble in the Vale, but demand that no harm befall Petyr Baelish. That they'll ignore the flock of Sparrows that continues to descend on King's Landing. That they have no idea who the next High Septon will be. That the grumblings from the masses about the crimes of the Red Wedding are best dealt with by waiting for Lord Frey to die and hoping that his successor will give up a few rivals as scapegoats. That to pay for a new royal fleet the crown will default on its loan payments to both the Faith and the Iron Bank of Braavos. That Lord Manderly should execute Ser Davos who came to ask for White Harbor's support for Stannis' claim. That news of dragons in Essos can be safely ignored. And that Jon Snow has betrayed the neutrality of the Night's Watch by siding with Stannis.Cersei arranges a complex plan involving Osney Kettleblack seducing Queen Margaery, being caught in the act, sent to the Wall by King Tommen, murdering Jon Snow, being pardoned, and then becoming Cersei's concubine for his service. A tall order, but if he pulls it off, then a Lannister always pays their debts. She tells Taena to let Margaery know that the handsome Osney is smitten with her, but discreetly. Jaime bids farewell to his uncle and to his father's remains, envies Loras Tyrell's horsemanship, and frets over his twin's drinking and her new friends. Simon and Mackelly think he might have a point.Chapter ReviewJaime Lannister bids farewell to his uncle Kevan who is leaving King's Landing with his son Lancel and the bones of his brother Tywin. The conversation doesn't go quite as Jaime hoped. Kevan is furious at both twins for their incest, the shame their bringing to the family, and Cersei's refusal to toe (Kevan's version of) the party line. Kevan is headed to the Riverlands where rumor has it that Sandor Clegane has joined forces with Beric Dondarrion to terrorize the citizens. Jaime's warning to be careful manages to sound like a threat.Jamie notes that King's Landing seems emptier now that the Tyrells have left. He sees Loras Tyrell practicing jousting with envy, the younger Kingsguard is the better horseman. He finds his sister in her cups and hanging with Pycelle, Taena Merryweather, and King Tommen. Lollys Stokeworth has given birth, and the child's stepfather (Bronn) has thoughtfully named the baby Tyrion. Cersei is not amused.Jaime dismisses everyone and tries to get Cersei to see sense with her new friends. Nobody knows the true loyalties of Qyburn, Taena, nor the Kettleblacks and these have become her confidantes. She doubles down wanting the comely but untested Aurane Waters to be the Master of Ship. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
It's the royal wedding day and Cersei couldn't be less thrilled. She's in constant fear for Tommen's safety, feels like the Tyrells are manipulating her, and is surrounded by fools. Plus, a long ago prophecy keeps coming to mind. Only one activity brings her any joy in the day, and it's quite the doozy. Simon and Mackelly remembered to pack their sunglasses and stand in the back.Chapter Review:Queen Cersei Lannister hopes for a storm to rock the Red Keep to its base. Her youngest son gets married today, and Cersei is taking no pleasure in the fact. Young King Tommen will marry his older brother's widow, and Cersei thinks it's much too soon. Ser Jaime Lannister has taken every precaution imaginable to protect Tommen, but it's not enough for Cersei. She can't help but recall a prophecy told to her as a child by a fortune teller, where a beautiful young queen will cast her down and take all she holds dear. When Tommen briefly chokes on wine during the wedding feast, it's more than Cersei can bear. She leaves the hall to cry in private. However, Taena Merryweather finds her and says Cersei's made is a Tyrell spy. Cersei is skeptical of the Myrish beauty, who is one of Queen Margaery's ladies. However, she promises a reward if Taena is telling the truth.Back in the Small Hall, Cersei surveys the room and decides it's full of imbeciles, including her brother Jaime. Everyone will need to be replaced by her own people. When she's called “the old queen” one too many times, Cersei asks for everyone to follow her outside. When the masses are gathered, she has the Tower of the Hand set aflame by wildfire. She hopes to smoke out her brother Tyrion, and remove the taint of the previous Hands of the King, especially her father. As everyone leaves for bed, Cersei sends Jaime away in favor of Ser Osmund Kettleblack.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Cersei Lannister - Mother to King Tommen, Queen Regent of the Seven Kingdoms.King Tommen Baratheon - Child king of the Seven Kingdoms.Jamie Lannister - Twin and lover to Cersei. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Jaime might've bitten off more than he can chew with standing vigil over his father for seven days and nights. While battling sleep, he recalls his last conversation with Rhaegar Targaryen as well as his recent one with the chief undergaoler. He's visited by Cersei and again rejects her plea to be Hand of the King. Finally, he brokers a lunch for Cersei and feeds her exact steps to success. Simon and Mackelly wonder if she'll still muck it up.Chapter Review:While Jaime Lannister stands vigil over his father's body, he thinks of how if he'd known that Tyrion was going to kill their father he'd have stopped him. He thinks of the conversation he had with the chief undergaoler of the Red Keep dungeons. He gets the same story Cersei got regarding Rugen, the missing undergaoler. Jaime is furious to learn that the turnkeys who fell asleep the night of Tyrion's escape were murdered, by order of the queen.Said queen appears in person, as Jaime stands vigil. She's dressed as a commoner to escape notice. She says Kevan refused her offer of Hand of the King and that he knows about Jaime and Cersei's relationship. She begs Jaime to reconsider taking the role of Hand of the King. Jaime again refuses. Again, in no uncertain terms. A furious Cersei stalks off after unleashing a barrage of angry words toward Jaime. When the sun comes up, mourners again flood the Great Sept of Baelor. Tywin's body has continued to decay and the odor has intensified greatly. When Queen Cersei and King Tommen approach the corpse, Tommen gags and runs for the door. Jaime goes after him and consoles the little king. Queen Cersei arrives and admonishes her son for embarrassing her. Mace Tyrell is close on her heels. Jaime sets up a lunch between Cersei and Mace, to Cersei's annoyance. But Jaime explains that it's an opportunity to send Mace on a task out of the city, where he might get himself killed.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Jamie Lannister - Twin and lover to Cersei. Busy day for Queen Cersei. She fends off mourners expressing regret and vying for her favor and works to keep the Tyrells off the Small Council. She bonds with Qyburn before finally having a highly contentious dinner with her uncle. Mackelly and Simon are in shock that Kevan went there.Chapter Review:Queen Cersei Lannister and King Tommen kneel before her father Tywin's body. The odor emanating from the late Hand of the King is not missed by those in attendance, so all are glad when the prayers end. Afterward, mourners approach Cersei to express condolences. Falyse Stokeworth offers that if her sister Lollys has a son, they'd like to name him Tywin. Cersei shoots the idea down. She congratulates Lancel on his betrothal and his new lordship. He's not thrilled about either. He met with the high septon. Cersei reminds him of the power of silent prayer. She's approached by Mace Tyrell. He's angling to be named Hand of the King, but says his uncle Garth is on his way to King's Landing to serve as Master of Coin. Cersei has no interest in another Tyrell on the Small Council, so lies and says she's offered the role to Gyles Rosby. Mace is shocked, but his mother steers him away. Later, she asks Rosby to be Master of Coin and to act as though it was offered yesterday.Back in the Red Keep, Qyburn says he's found a gold coin in the missing gaoler Rugen's chamber. It's from the Reach, which causes Cersei to question whether the Tyrells were involved in the plot to free Tyrion. Cersei plans to call for the headsman for Gregor Clegane. Qyburn asks to move Gregor to the dungeons, to continue to work with him.Her uncle Kevan arrives for dinner. Cersei asks him to be Tommen's Hand of the King. Kevan says he will, if he's also made King Regent. Cersei is to go back to Casterly Rock. She refuses. Kevan says he's taking his brother and going home. Tommen has his mother… and his father too.Characters/Places/Names/EventsCersei Lannister - Mother to King Tommen, Queen Regent of the Seven Kingdoms.King Tommen Baratheon - Child king of the Seven Kingdoms.Tywin Lannister - Lord of Casterly Rock, recently murdered by his son Tyrion.Jamie Lannister - Twin and lover to Cersei. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Cersei is awakened to the news that her father is dead. She can hardly believe it, but is not exactly broken up about it. At least her little brother is locked up and will be a head short by this evening. Ah, about that: he's escaped. Mackelly and Simon spot many of Cersei's character flaws, while ignoring their own.Chapter Review:Cersei dreams of sitting the Iron Throne. It's a great dream until Tyrion appears, and her clothes disappear. Then it takes a nasty turn. She gets cut and the Iron Throne fights her. Tyrion laughs. A maid wakes her. Not to save her from the dream but because the Kingsguard are here to let her know that Tywin is dead. Cersei's struggling to separate the dream from reality. But she begins to piece it together. She dresses and is escorted to the Tower of the Hand.En route, she ponders how she should react and how she and her rivals will use her father's death to their advantage. Jamie has followed the secret passage in the fireplace, and Loras Tyrell has been sent to check on King Tommen. She sends Boros Blount to confirm that Tyrion is still secured. She wants Pycelle to prepare her father's body, but he's been and gone and not even bothered to remove the quarrel from Lord Tywin's guts.Qyburn comes in and prepares the body, and asks what's to be done with Shae. Cersei hadn't even noticed her. She wants her removed quietly, so nobody gets the idea that Tywin was consorting with a prostitute. Jamie arrives back, no sign of the murderer. She offers him the role of Hand, he refuses. Uncle Kevan demands that they stop squabbling. Blount returns with news that Tyrion is escaped. Cersei recalls a prophecy in which the Valonqar will choke the life from her.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Cersei Lannister - Queen regent and mother to King Tommen.Tywin Lannister - Lord of Casterly Rock, recently murdered by his son Tyrion.Jamie Lannister - Twin and lover to Cersei. Doran reminds her that it was a trial by combat, and Oberyn willingly participated in it. Obara wants to take the Dornish hosts and attack. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Jaime reminisces about the bygone glory days of the Kingsguard. He turns his attention to righting the wrongs of the current White Swords. He goes man-by-man through his sworn brothers, calling them out on the issues he has with them. Lastly, he has a heart-to-heart with Loras about his claim that Brienne killed Renly. Jenny and Mackelly applaud Jaime's closing arguments.Chapter Review:Jaime Lannister reads through the White Book, the written history of the Kingsguard, while waiting for his sworn brothers to join. When his brothers arrive, Jaime admonishes them for allowing the king to die under their watch. He then gauges their opinions on Tyrion's involvement in the death. He goes through each man and calls them out on issues. Ser Boros Blount will now be King Tommen's taste tester, as he's unfit to protect the boy he gave up so easily. He then questions why he's never heard of Ser Osmund Kettleblack before. After that, he asks Ser Meryn Trant to show him where in their vows it says to beat women and children, like he did to Sansa Stark. He praises Balon Swann's character but questions how he'd handle his family challenging Tommen's rule. Finally, he turns his attention to Ser Loras Tyrell, who reminds Jaime of himself at that age. Jaime makes a case for Brienne's possible innocence in the murder of Renly Baratheon. His argument is enough to seed doubt in Loras' mind. Jaime tasks Loras with talking with Brienne and deciding her innocence or guilt. Whatever Loras determines is the case, Jaime will abide by it.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Jaime Lannister - Member of the Kingsguard. Jaime and Brienne arrive in King's Landing. They've learned that bad news awaits them. Brienne is immediately imprisoned, while Jaime gets into it with his father and his sister. Simon and Mackelly hope for a bit more love and a lot less, respectively.Chapter Review:Jaime Lannister arrives in King's Landing with Brienne, Qyburn, and Roose Bolton's men. It's not changed that much, still stinks. They've learned en-route of the deaths at the weddings (the red and the purple). Jaime is struggling to find the correct emotion. He cares more about how Cersei is feeling and feeling sorry for himself about his hand.Upon arrival, they meet Ser Loras Tyrell, who denounces Brienne as a kingslayer - of Renly that is. Jaime arranges for Brienne to be imprisoned (temporarily, for her own good). Jaime visits the sept, where Joffrey lies in state. He finds his twin mourning over their dead child. She affirms that it was Tyrion who killed Joffrey. They have sex there and then. Jaime wants to be open about their relationship, but Cersei roughly disabuses him of that idea.Jaime visits his father, who reports that Vargo Hoat is getting his comeuppance from Gregor Clegane, who has retaken Harrenhal. Jaime is to leave the Kingsguard, marry Margaery Tyrell (Cersei will marry Oberyn Martell) and take King Tommen to Casterly Rock to be raised away from his mother. Jaime flat out refuses. The Kings go into the heart of The Land and pick up their 1st win on this road trip. Things looked dire with 4:40 left to go in the 4th, with the Kings down 6 and the momentum on the Cavs side. Instead of falling apart and giving the Cavs the game, the Kings proceed to lock down on defense and go on a 19-0 run to end the game and win going away. It's another impressive showing of this team's resilience and fight, something we haven't seen with past Kings teams. The Cavs were without Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Love and Dean Wade, Kings were without Fox and TD. Both Fox and TD are considered day to day and will likely appear in a game on this road trip. Here's to hoping they come back 100% soon. Fong has made his return after a 3 episode absence, and shares his experience going to Madison Square Garden to watch a Knick game. Owen also updates him on some of the news that has happened in his absence to get his thoughts. And lastly, he shares his thoughts on Season 5 of Game of Thrones, where Tommen has become King of King's Landing and the Boltons have taken Winterfell. And also ... Reek. Wir besprechen heute nicht HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, sondern die Serie, die George R. R. Martin berühmt machte: GAME OF THRONES! Genauer gesagt sprechen wir heute über Xenias Lieblingsfolge: DIE GESETZE VON GÖTTERN UND MENSCHEN (OT: THE LAWS OF GODS AND MEN). We've made it to another one, and we've also reached an important milestone. The season 6 finale, "The Winds of Winter" still to this day remains one of the biggest and most important episodes of the entire show. It sets the course for the final two seasons, wraps up all the ancellary storylines, proved that the show had officially become the biggest show on the air at the time, and in particular this episode kicks off with one of the biggest moments of the entire show, with Cersei carrying out her grand plan of using Aerys Targaryen's hidden stash of wildfire to blow up the entire sept, wiping out all her enemies in one fell swoop. The fallout from this episode causes a myriad of different events, as the event is entirely too much for Tommen to bear, as well as finally giving Cersei the full power that she's been seeking this entire time. This is also a momentus episode for Jon & Daenerys as well, with Jon being crowned King in the North after his victory against Ramsay at the Battle of the Bastards, and Daenerys finally setting her sights on Westeros after years of being in Essos. But the minutia still continues to seep in, as Arya carries out her long dormant revenge against the Freys for the Red Wedding, Jaime realizes exactly what side he's on, Bran learns the truth of Jon's parentage, Sam arrives at the Citadel for Maester training & Olenna & the Sand Snakes choose new allies. It's one of the biggest episodes of the entire show, and it's all covered right here on #talkinthrones --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support
The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Tyrion gets a visit from newly-knighted Ser Bronn. Bronn lacks bedside manner and takes Tyrion step-by-step through how Tyrion has lost everything he's built while in King's Landing. Tyrion then has an equally unpleasant conversation with his father, where Tywin holds nothing back about why Tyrion will never be lord of Casterly Rock. Simon and Mackelly find something interesting to stare at on the floor.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister is recovering from his wounds suffered at the hand of Ser Mandon Moore of the Royal Kingsguard, during the Battle of the Blackwater. His top sellsword aide Bronn pays him a visit. He's now Ser Bronn of the Blackwater, having been knighted by command of Tywin Lannister. The move irks Tyrion, but the bad news is only beginning. He also learns he's officially been replaced as Hand of the King by his father, his trusted Commander of the City Watch Jacelyn Bywater is dead, his mountain clans won't be returning to the city, Alayaya was released but not before being whipped, and he's lost his control over Tommen in Rosby.Tyrion decides it's time to get out of bed and pay a visit to his father. He finds him in Tyrion's old chambers in the Tower of the Hand, now occupied by his father. Tywin is busy writing important letters but puts them aside to talk with his youngest son. He tells Tyrion that he's sent men to trap and eliminate a Stark force headed for Duskendale. The men disagree over Tyrion's level of involvement in saving the city. Tywin puts much of it on himself, the Tyrells, and Cersei. Although, he does give Tyrion some credit, and asks what he wants as his reward. Tyrion cuts to the chase. He wants his father to publicly name him heir to Casterly Rock. Tywin's not having it. He's tired of the prostitutes Tyrion continually associates with and he won't have him bringing them into Casterly Rock. In fact, the next one he finds in Tyrion's bed, he'll hang. Chad is back for his 3rd episode on the pod, aren't there aren't many guests that get sillier. We did break down some movies, TV shows, political difficulties, and philosophical debates... ...we also got pretty far into Pizza Hut, nectarines, cheese wheels, Tom & Jerry, mobile games, and so many, and I mean SO many other topics. Keep your head on a swivel, this one moves fast. Also your head is never really on a swivel or else you definitely have a decapitation and/or spine alignment problem. Your head can swivel, which is probably the more appropriate nomenclature. Nomenclature? Tommenclature...Tommen...Game of Thrones...we mentioned that too. Just trust me and give it a whirl, if you don't have at least 2.5 times (the half being a small snort out of your nose to acknowledge the comedy), then you can just try again next week. And the one that no one's been looking forward to, see what I did there? This episode is infamous as another 8th episode that feels like a penultimate to the penultimate, wrapping up a lot of the ancellary storylines before we move on to the explosive climax that is Battle of the Bastards & Winds of Winter. The only problem? This is the episode where it really feels like D&D gave up. While not every storyline in this episode misses, a large chunk of this feels like filler, leading up to an ending action set piece that feels more at home in a Mortal Kombat video game than Game of Thrones. The Hound carries out his revenge against the men who wiped out his friends, leading him back to the Brotherhood without Banners, who have a new mission. Cersei shows the Sparrows that she is not listening to them anymore, but when Tommen bans trials by combat, she seems doomed, at least until Qyburn gives her a valuable bit of information. In the Riverlands, Brienne arrives and offers Jaime a deal to allow her to lead the Blackfish and his forces north to assist Jon & Sansa, allowing him to take the castle back peacefully, but when this fails, Jaime is forced to use Edmure as a bargaining chip. It all ends in Braavos, with a storyline resolution that gets more and more confusing as the years go on. After being rescued and treated by Lady Crane, Arya is attacked once again by the Waif, who kills Lady Crane in a manner that still is confusing 6 years later, before chasing Arya through the streets in one of the most obvious and non-secretive parkour action scenes before Arya lures her to her little hiding spot, and rather than letting us see the payoff for all those training sessions, we're instead treated to...darkness. Its confusing, its out of place, it makes no sense, and it becomes more and more apparent as the years go on that Benioff & Weiss just wanted to be done with Braavos. We return with another episode of Talkin' Thrones, the second of two parts covering all the subplots that weren't covered in last week's episode, very similar to how it played out last season. What's so interesting about Season 6 is that despite it being the most critically appealing, arguably the most commercially successful and probably the most mainstream the show had been up to that point, people seem to forget that the second half is primarily subplots that set up for later things down the line. Jaime finally carries out the plan to root the sparrows out of the city with help from the Tyrell army, but they are thwarted at the last second by Tommen unexpectedly being converted to the Sparrow's side, before Jaime is carted off to Riverrun to deal with the Blackfish having unexpectedly taken the castle back from the Freys. Sam & Gilly continue their journey south and arrive at Horn Hill, where they are confronted by Sam's father who still refuses to see that his son has grown since he first went to the Wall. Arya makes her decision regarding whether she will continue to play the Faceless Men's games. Bran & Meera narrowly manage to escape the Wights north of the Wall with help from an unexpected ally. Oh yeah, and Daenerys reminds the Dothraki why they're following her. Because we needed a cool scene with the dragons. We're back with another episode of Talkin' Thrones, and its a big one today, Season 6, Episode 4, "Book of the Stranger." It can become easy to forget about some of the smaller moments that help set up for the larger, more memorable moments like Battle of the Bastards, or even something like the Door next episode, but its episodes like these that are so crucial, because they help to directly set up for a lot of the bigger moments to come. Jon has just completed his final act as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch and is about to leave when the first major reunion happens, with Sansa finally arriving at the Wall, marking the first Stark reunion since the pilot. Jon is not yet ready to emerge into the real world, but Sansa makes him see sense once Jon receives a threatening letter from Ramsay. At Winterfell, Osha attempts to trick Ramsay as she once did Theon, but is unable to and pays dearly for it. In King's Landing, Cersei learns a crucial detail and is able to form an alliance with Olenna, while the High Sparrow continues to play his games with Margaery & Tommen. Theon arrives home for the first time in years to learn of his father's death and his sister's attempts for the Throne. In Meereen, Tyrion negotiates a peace treaty with the slavers to less than satisfactory reactions. Littlefinger plots his next move after arriving back in the Eyrie. It all ends with a brilliant fireshow, with Daenerys carrying out her revenge plot against the Khals and showing the Dothraki why they should follow her. Another week, another episode in the wind down phase of Talkin' Thrones, Season 6, Episode 3, entitled "Oathbreaker," a reverse of a previous Season 4 episode, only with a much different context behind it. Despite this still being an action season, we're finding that Season 6 is mirroring Season 5 a little bit more than we would have liked, considering that we're getting into the phase of set up/spinning our wheels until the last two episodes, leaving a lot of room on the table for some actually juicy scenes. We start by addressing a booboo that Professor Pat made last week, mistakenly thinking that Bran seeing his father's fight with Arthur Dayne happened in last week's episode, when it really happened in this episode. Cersei & Jaime attempt to get the attention of the other members of the Small Council, but they ignore them, while the High Sparrow continues his games with Margaery & Tommen. Dany is finally brought back to Vaes Dothrak, and discovers what her fate was originally supposed to be. We also check in briefly with Sam & Gilly, still on their way south to Oldtown. In Braavos, Arya continues to train with sticks & faces, and eventually is able to get her eyesight back. In Meereen, Varys interrogates the woman who was assisting the Sons of the Harpy and discovers that (shocker) the Slave Masters of Astapor, Yunkai & Volantis are bankrolling the Sons. God can we be done with Meereen. At Winterfell, Ramsay shores up his alliances, with the Umbers turning on their lifelong oath to the Starks by presenting Ramsay with a gift. It all ends with the next gangbuster moment, with Jon, freshly back from the dead and now being seen as a god by the Wildlings, executing Alliser Thorne and the rest of the Watch mutineers, including Olly, before ultimately stating that his watch is ended and abandoning the position of Lord Commander. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Sansa bounces around the Red Keep, as the battle starts beyond the city's walls. She prays for everyone, even Tyrion and the Hound. She draws the line at Joffrey. She meets Shae and takes her place in the Red Keep with Cersei, the other women and children, and Illyn Payne. Simon and Mackelly load the trebuchets.Chapter Review:Sansa Stark speaks with Tyrion Lannister before the battle. He muses that he should have sent her to Rosby with Tommen. Too late now. She still can't read his heart but is less sure of his animosity. Joffrey calls her over like a dog. He charmingly invites her to kiss his new sword Hearteater. She obliges and goads Joffrey to prove himself in battle. The narcissistic little coward ignores the barbs. She prays in the sept, along with everyone else who isn't fighting (and some who will be very soon). She muses on how the contradictory gods can possibly heed all the prayers. But takes solace in holding hands with strangers as they pray. When prayers for Joffrey begin, she gets out of there. She heads to the Queen's ballroom. En route she meets the Stokeworths who are struggling to get Lollys to accompany them. She's freaked out about something, and not easy to reason with. Eventually Shae and Lollys' sister Falyse manhandle her into the ballroom.Within, Sansa sits with Cersei and questions why ser Ilyn Payne is present, wielding Sansa's father's sword Ice. Cat tries to come to terms with the news of Bran's and Rickon's deaths. Mackelly and Simon quickly buy up pine boxes in Riverrun.Chapter Review:Catelyn Stark listens to the citizens of Riverrun celebrate the victory over Tywin Lannister's forces, while trying to process the news that Bran and Rickon have been murdered by Theon Greyjoy. Jamie agrees to answer Cat's questions as long as she will do the same with his. He admits to throwing Bran from the tower, but denies sending the assassin. He also admits to being the father of Cersei's children. He backs up Tyrion's story of the dagger used in the attempt on Bran's life. If the Imp bet, it was on Jamie and he lost, so he never won the dagger. In return, Cat reveals the state of the war - Robb winning more and more castles in the Westerlands.Jamie then tells the story of Brandon and Rickard Stark's death, painting a terrible picture of Aerys and the other Kingsguard. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Tyrion sees two new Kingsguard appointed and oversees preparations for Stannis' arrival. The pyromancers have more than delivered on their wildfire promise. And Varys has foiled a plot to open the gates to Stannis. Mackelly and Simon dip a finger in the boiling oil. Chapter Review:Tyrion sends Shagga and the other mountain clansmen to the Kingswood to harry and delay Stannis' army as it finally makes its way to King's Landing. Tyrion and Bronn review the defenses on the river-side of the city and decree that the homes and shanties that lean against the outside of the wall, need to be removed (with minimal human misery if possible) before the invaders use them to scale the walls. Tyrion has learned that Winterfell has fallen to the Greyjoys and while celebrating the Starks' misfortune, he cannot help but feel that there is something not right about it. He ponders this while seeing Balon Swann and Osmund Kettleblack sworn in as the latest members of the Kingsguard. They replace the late Preston Greenfield and the disgraced Boros Blount, who capitulated too willingly when Tyrion's men forcibly wrested Prince Tommen from his care.Tyrion meets with Hallyne of the pyromancers who is miles ahead of schedule on the production of wildfire. Tyrion is skeptical, but Hallyne explains that their spells are working like they used to in the time of dragons. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Tyrion gets wind of Cersei's latest plots. He tries to convince Shae to take a job in the Red Keep. He discusses the news from Storm's End with Varys who shares his hatred of all things magic. Mackelly and Simon try to weave the threads. Chapter Review: Tyrion Lannister learns from Lancel that Cersei plans to hide Tommen at Rosby. Tyrion doesn't mind this plan, but wants Tommen's guards to be loyal to him. He sends Jacelyn Bywater to do the job, with a promise of a lordship in return. To this point Bywater has been completely non-partisan - and the lordship is the payment for taking sides. Tyrion heads to Shae - risking going straight there. He wants her to move to the Red Keep - the city is too dangerous. But the only way he can see to do that is to get her a job as a servant. She's not pleased. They fight and he slaps her. Out of remorse, he spills the story of Tysha but then regrets being so vulnerable. They leave on bad terms. With Varys they discuss the fall of Storm's End. Varys thinks magic was used to kill Ser Courtnay Penrose, but Tyrion thinks there are more mundane explanations. Varys relates his becoming a eunuch at the hands of a sorcerer and his revulsion of magic thereafter. Tyrion is moved by Varys' tale. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Myrcella sets sail for Dorne, via Braavos. Riding back through the city a riot breaks out. Lives are lost, but thanks to the Hound not Sansa Stark's. Jacelyn Bywater informs Tyrion that the smallfolk consider Tyrion the root of all their problems. With Bronn and Varys, Tyrion begins to consider replacing Joffrey with Tommen. Simon and Mackelly weigh the options. Chapter Review: Myrcella Baratheon is shipping off to Dorne where, when older, she will marry Trystane Martell. She's going a circuitous route, which will significantly reduce King's Landing's already insufficient naval force, but Cersei wants her daughter safe. Ser Arys Oakheart of the Kingsguard will travel with her as her personal bodyguard. Her arrival in Braavos is the signal for the Martells to move into the passes that border the Stormlands with the intent of holding some of Stannis' forces from the envisioned assault on King's Landing. The royal party heads back through the streets, lined with hangry citizens. The king is struck in the face with excrement, and rather than hastening a retreat to the Red Keep, he stops to set his Hound on those he perceives to blame. A riot ensues. Several in the party lose their lives including the High Septon. But Sansa Stark, briefly lost, is saved by Sandor Clegane. Hours later, the gold cloaks have regained control of the city, but Bywater warns Tyrion that the situation worsens daily. The smallfolk believe their suffering began when Tyrion was named Hand of the King. Tyrion is hurt by the insinuation. Bronn notes that Tommen is a much nicer kid than Joffrey and Westeros would be so much nicer of a place if the younger brother was to somehow become the King. Tyrion cannot help but imagine the prospect. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Queen Cersei Lannister - Widow of King Robert Baratheon, twin sister of Ser Jamie Lannister.
