Close the Door: Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast
Spoilers, profanity, Jaime x Brienne. Dany's crew is at their peak as they take on Meereen and each other's treachery. Game of Thrones. A Song of Ice and Fire. A Storm of Swords - Daenerys V. Close The Door And Come Here - Episode 507
The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Daenerys has taken Meereen, but Astapor and Yunkai are backsliding. She forgives Barristan Selmy for his failures to protect her family, but banishes Jorah Mormont from her sight. She'll stay in Meereen and rule. Mackelly and Simon settle in to watch some dragons grow.Chapter Review:Daenerys Targaryen surveys Meereen from the great pyramid. She's bothered by flies who've gathered to feast on the many dead, including the 163 she crucified as payment for what they did to the slave children. She meets an envoy from Astapor. The council she appointed have all lost their heads, literally, and a former (and apparently current) butcher Cleon, has made himself King. He offers his hand in marriage. Dany is distinctly disinterested. The second petitioner is a Qartheen trader. He has goods he wants to trade for slaves. He's surely barking up the wrong tree. Only Daario Naharis confirms that many freed slaves are down at the docks offering to reenter slavery. Dany begrudgingly allows it and imposes a tax on the trade to swell her own coffers.Next she sees Ser Barristan Selmy and Ser Jorah Mormont. The former gives it to her straight. Her father was mad, Viserys had the hallmarks too. Robert Baratheon was a great knight, and could have been a good king. She appreciates the candor and reinstates him to her service. Mormont tries a similar tack. He spied for Varys for a pardon, as recently as Qarth. But this is too much for Dany. She banishes Jorah forever.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Daenerys Targaryen - Last remaining descendent of the royal Targaryen line, Stormborn, Mother of Dragons, claimant to the Iron Throne of Westeros.Ser Jorah Mormont - Exiled former Lord of Bear Island. Daenerys' bodyguard and loyal advisor.Unsullied - Eunuch slave soldiers. Renowned for their fighting prowess. Barristan Selmy, aka Arstan Whitebeard- Former Lord Commander of the Kingsguard in King's Landing. Sent by Illyrio Mopatis to bring Dany to Pentos.Strong Belwas - Eunuch former slave, sent by Illyrio Mopatis to keep Dany safe. In the episode, Brienne of Tarth and Podrick Payne attempt to make contact with Sansa Stark. In Meereen, Daenerys Targaryen clashes with the nobles of Meereen following Barristan Selmy's death, but later agrees to marry Hizdahr zo Loraq. In Old Valyria, Tyrion Lannister and Jorah Mormont are attacked by stone men. At the Wall, Stannis Baratheon prepares to leave Castle Black and march on Winterfell, and Jon Snow frees Tormund from captivity so that he can lead Jon to the wildling camp at Hardhome. The name of the episode comes from a piece of advice Maester Aemon gives Jon, to "kill the boy" and "let the man be born".If you haven't already, please to subscribe to the audio version of the podcast on all your favorite podcast platforms...If you want to keep the fun going with us throughout the week, come join our Facebook group.JOIN THE WATCH DEM THRONES FACEBOOK GROUPhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/126567443834910/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBTTO WATCH AND SUBSCRIBE:Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/blackwithnochaser/Twitter:https://twitter.com/BeBlackNoChaser?t=pVFV06lBFdZRu72ot4uCjA&s=09Twitter:https://twitter.com/WatchDemThrones?t=q0ngrYPlugf0ttzM2jo39A&s=09Apple Music: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/watch-dem-thrones-by-black-with-no-chaser/id1641754247Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/1qI1bJ1vIlobu502w6zrtN?si=mtsa3gZYRZW_3FmlCrv7UgBWNC RADIO: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bwnc-radio/id6443800363Amazon Musichttps://music.amazon.com/podcasts/45279c3a-c09f-47d1-a3a3-88e6e2507230/watch-dem-thrones-by-black-with-no-chaserIHeartRadiohttps://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-watch-dem-thrones-by-black-101286659/?cmp=android_share&sc=android_social_share&pr=false#gameofthrones #demdragons #blackwithnochaser #houseofthedragonhbo #dragonseeds #theblacks #thegreens #houseofthedragon #youtube #targaryens #podcast #podsincolor #applemusic #spotifymusic #podsincolor #starks #lannisters #Velaryon

Wir besprechen heute nicht HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, sondern die Serie, die George R. R. Martin berühmt machte: GAME OF THRONES! Genauer gesagt sprechen wir heute über Xenias Lieblingsfolge: DIE GESETZE VON GÖTTERN UND MENSCHEN (OT: THE LAWS OF GODS AND MEN). We've made it to another gangbusters episode. Arguably one of the two biggest episodes of the entire show, not to mention that this is probably the only season of the show where the penultimate and final episodes are of equal caliber in terms of how awesome they are. "Battle of the Bastards" still remains arguably the most technically proficient episodes of the entire show, with Miguel Sapochnik & DP Fabian Wagner returning to show that their work with last season's "Hardhome" was not a fluke. The episode famously covers Jon's battle against Ramsay Bolton to reclaim Winterfell as well as Daenerys returning to Meereen and finally using the dragons to their full extent. It's an action packed episode filled with suspence and amazing payoffs, but obviously the star of the episode is the full spectacle that's on display, with Sapochnik brilliantly demonstrating the literal pressure felt by Jon as he's almost killed at least 3 different times throughout the course of the battle. It's another action packed episode of Talkin' Thrones, and we wrap up Season 6 next week! Another week, another episode in the wind down phase of Talkin' Thrones, Season 6, Episode 3, entitled "Oathbreaker," a reverse of a previous Season 4 episode, only with a much different context behind it. Despite this still being an action season, we're finding that Season 6 is mirroring Season 5 a little bit more than we would have liked, considering that we're getting into the phase of set up/spinning our wheels until the last two episodes, leaving a lot of room on the table for some actually juicy scenes. We start by addressing a booboo that Professor Pat made last week, mistakenly thinking that Bran seeing his father's fight with Arthur Dayne happened in last week's episode, when it really happened in this episode. Cersei & Jaime attempt to get the attention of the other members of the Small Council, but they ignore them, while the High Sparrow continues his games with Margaery & Tommen. Dany is finally brought back to Vaes Dothrak, and discovers what her fate was originally supposed to be. We also check in briefly with Sam & Gilly, still on their way south to Oldtown. In Braavos, Arya continues to train with sticks & faces, and eventually is able to get her eyesight back. In Meereen, Varys interrogates the woman who was assisting the Sons of the Harpy and discovers that (shocker) the Slave Masters of Astapor, Yunkai & Volantis are bankrolling the Sons. God can we be done with Meereen. At Winterfell, Ramsay shores up his alliances, with the Umbers turning on their lifelong oath to the Starks by presenting Ramsay with a gift. It all ends with the next gangbuster moment, with Jon, freshly back from the dead and now being seen as a god by the Wildlings, executing Alliser Thorne and the rest of the Watch mutineers, including Olly, before ultimately stating that his watch is ended and abandoning the position of Lord Commander. We're officially here, the beginning of the end. It's been a fun road on Talkin' Thrones, but it all must eventually come to an end. So here we are with the premiere of arguably the biggest and most critically acclaimed season of the show, the big one, the one that gave us Battle of the Bastards, the one that surpassed the books, it's the Season 6 premiere, entitled "The Red Woman." Despite a very rushed and completely out of place, not to mention horribly mishandled exiting of Dorne from the main storyline, the premiere picks up right after the events of last season, showing what's happened to all the characters after the meriad of cliffhangers after Season 5. The remaining Night's Watch members loyal to Jon along with Ser Davos must figure out what to do in the aftermath of Jon's death and Ser Alliser seizing control of the Watch. Ramsay picks up the pieces after the victory over Stannis and is chastised by his father for losing Sansa. Sansa & Theon are quickly caught by Ramsay's troops until an unexpected save from Brienne and Podrick. Jaime returns to King's Landing and vows to help Cersei take back what's been taken from them, while the High Sparrow starts to play the game. Arya is beaten on the streets, helpless and blind, while Tyrion casually wanders the streets in a storyline that by all right should be awesome, him ruling Meereen, but instead plays out like just spinning its wheels until they can get Daenerys back. Speaking of Daenerys, Jorah & Daario are hard after her, while she finds herself right back where she started with the Dothraki. In a rather shocking and abrupt final moment meant to further emphasize what Melisandre is capable of, we discover her take off her jeweled pendant, revealing her true, ancient form. It's a jam packed premiere that's setting up for a hard and fast paced season that's going to result in an explosive climax, and you guys can keep up with all of it right here on the #talkintvpodcast --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support
We've reached it, another finale to probably our most problematic and least enjoyable season of the show yet. Season 5 ultimately proved to be a severe downshift for the show, as this was the full transition away from the books, away from the awesome character moments and amazingly well thought out story decisions that carried the first four seasons to make something that truly earned its spot in the prestige TV hall of fame. Then with this season, to quote Professor Pat, just became another show. An exceedingly well made show, but just another show nonetheless. This finale "Mother's Mercy" is a cap off of that transition, with several moments that were extremely shocking and provoking in the moment, but have lost their steam with the benefit of hindsight, and others that just felt like quick wiffs to set up for what was coming next. Stannis is ultimately defeated both on the battlefield and in his moral compass, and meets his death at the hands of Brienne. Sansa & Theon escape Winterfell in a moment that felt a little too convenient to the plot. Jon is betrayed, stabbed and left to die by the brothers of the Night's Watch. Arya kills Meryn Trant, but is chastised by the Faceless Men for taking a life that wasn't hers. Jorah & Daario set off to find Daenerys, who finds herself at the mercy of the Dothraki, while Tyrion is left in charge of Meereen. Jaime leaves Dorne with Myrcella and tries to come clean to her, only for her to die in his arms. Cersei atones for her sins by committing a walk of penance, naked, across the city. Alright, we've officially reached the point of no return, Season 5, Episode 6, the infamous Dorne disaster, "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken." The Martell sigil words, which seems to signify the pigheadedness of all the characters and their actions as they move towards the finale. This is the second episode written by Bryan Cogman & directed by Jeremy Podeswa, and has become very controversial in the years since both for the changes made to the Dorne storyline as well as the ending scene, which presents Sansa being horrifically and rather brutally sexually assaulted by Ramsay on the night of their wedding, a moment that was heavily criticized as being gratuituous for the sake of being gratuituous rather than actually contributing to the story in a meaningful way. Jaime & Bronn finally reach the Water Gardens to rescue Myrcella, but are interrupted by the Sand Snakes as they also make their attempt to kidnap and kill her. Arya continues to clean bodies in the House of Black & White but is able to prove herself. Tyrion & Jorah are captured by slavers, but Tyrion convinces them to bring them to Meereen to Daenerys. In King's Landing, Loras is placed on trial but the High Sparrow stacks the tables against them and has both him & Margaery imprisoned. We're on for another episode of Talkin' Thrones as well as another midpoint, Season 5, Episode 5, entitled "Kill the Boy." The title being a reference to Maester Aemon giving Jon his last bit of advice to kill the symbolic boy and become the man, essentially yet another way of describing Jon's growth and maturity from embittered bastard to leader of men. The theme of maturity seems to be a prevalent one, with the characters suffering the consequences of their actions, while the holes continue to show as the season stretches on. Jon makes a decision that divides the Night's Watch in two: to bring the Wildlings south of the Wall. Stannis also makes a decision that seems doomed to fail to march his soldiers south to Winterfell, a stark contrast from the books that Dom & Pat discuss in length. In Meereen, Daenerys tries to make everyone happy. In Winterfell, Sansa discovers Theon in his new state as she prepares for her forthcoming wedding to Ramsay. Tyrion & Jorah journey through the ruins of Valyria on their way to Meereen and are attacked by Stone Men in an awesome sequence that results in a giant zombie cliche. We're into the final run of the show with Season 5 Episode 2, "The House of Black & White." This is what I like to call the plot episode, in that this is an episode where a WHOLE lot of plot happens. We get a lot of characters arriving at their new destinations they set out for, characters in transtit, characters starting out new journeys. Dom breaks down even more where they're deviating from the books, what works and what doesn't. Arya finally arrives at the House of Black & White in Braavos, only to be turned away. Jon is elected new Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. Cersei begins consolidating power in King's Landing, and already faces rejection. Jaime heads out on a new mission. Tyrion & Varys talk on the road to Meereen. Daenerys makes a fatal mistake as leader. Brienne has a serious case of deja vu. Oh man, people, we've crossed the Rubicon. We're officially at the point where Game of Thrones transitions from being great to just...meh. Season 5 is such an interesting conundrum, because some of the best, most awesome moments of the entire show happen this season. The Dragonpit attack, Shireen's tragic death, Davos' speech to Jon, and of course, the real turning point of the show, Hardhome. It signifies a drastic upshift in the production, and a severe downshift in the storytelling, as this is the last season based on any of the books, in fact not one, but two books, both of which portray several different events happening at the same time, A Feast for Crows & a Dance of Dragons. Benioff & Weiss' decision to merge a lot of the major events from both books into one while leaving certain events out for next season is an odd one that proves more and more baffling as the years go on, as the consensus that Dom & Pat come to being that this season, while having some incredible moments, is ultimately streamlined in favor of rushing the story towards its conclusion, a decision that would haunt the legacy of the show and leave this season feeling very rushed and unfulfilled in hindsight. That being said, this episode does an incredible job of setting up the conflicts of the next two seasons, as we're introduced to two major antagonists that will face Cersei & Daenerys, with the Sparrows in King's Landing & the Sons of the Harpy in Meereen. We also get some major context around Cersei, Jon is given an ultimatum by Stannis, Sansa & Littlefinger leave the Vale and Varys offers Tyrion a new place. We're past the halfway point of Season 4, which means we're into gangbuster territory. I'd make the argument here that the back half of Season 4 might be the best and most important stretch of this entire show, and we're kicking it off with "The Laws of Gods & Men," or as its better known as, Tyrion's trial. It's another season 4 episode written by Bryan Cogman, as well as another one that features a gigantic King's Landing event for the whole second half, in this case Tyrion's trial, the next even in the awesome King's Landing arc this season. We get a few brief check-ins with Stannis visiting the Iron Bank and Daenerys realizing that ruling Meereen is going to be much harder than she originally thought. We also get possibly the worst sequence in this season with Yara attempting to lead an attack on the Dreadfort to rescue Theon, and not only does he not recognize her, but somehow Ramsay fights off multiple Ironborn with no shirt on? And then, the entire sequence is used to give Ramsay the ammunition he needs to use Theon to...look, it's a really dumb sequence, it doesn't work, and it's better in hindsight not to talk about it. Instead, we have the star of the episode, and arguably his last great performance and monologue on the show, because Peter Dinklage really brings it this episode, channeling all the hurt, the betrayal and the misery his family's put him through the last couple seasons into the monologue to end all monologues as he calls for trial by combat after Shae's devastating betrayal. We're at yet another midpoint, and just given the amount of gangbusters stuff on the horizon, there had to be a lukewarm episode somewhere. Still a great episode, but "First of his Name" definitely wraps up a lot of stuff that we knew was coming before prepping us for the final six episodes. Cersei is making moves in King's Landing with Margaery, Tywin & Oberyn. Daenerys makes a decision concerning Meereen. Littlefinger & Sansa arrive in the Eyrie, where secrets are revealed about the start of the Stark Lannister conflict. Brienne learns more about Podrick Payne, while the Hound gives Arya more life lessons. It ends with the Night's Watch attack on Craster's, wrapping up that story arc that started way back in Season 2. A smaller, more intimate set up episode, but an incredible one to say the least. Bryan Cogman returns to write the episode that definitely set the precedent for deviating the most from the books as far as character motivations go. Daenerys takes over Meereen with a cool maneuver from Grey Worm. Jon arranges to take a party north of the wall to kill the Night's Watch mutineers at Craster's, who also happen to have captured Bran. In King's Landing, Jaime is being torn in every direction between his love for both his siblings, and relents by sending Brienne to find Sansa and keep her safe. Olenna & Littlefinger both reveal their parts in Joffrey's death to Margaery & Sansa, and we also get out introduction to the Night King. Oh man, another jam packed third episode, what is with these third episodes being so jam packed yet so awesome. "Breaker of Chains" sees the immediate aftermath of Joffrey's death, and how everyone reacts to it, and only a few short months after the Red Wedding served a similar purpose. Tywin immediately begins readying Tommen to take over, Jaime & Cersei engage in a very strange and oddly interpreted sex scene, and Tyrion attempts to ensure his remaining ally's safety. Stannis receives word and demands Davos come up with a way for him to return to power. Arya learns what it truly means to survive. At the Wall, Jon and the brothers receive some disturbing news as the Wildlings close in. Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys begins her conquest of the final slave city, Meereen. In the final installment of our TWoW Primer series we recap Daenerys Targaryen's ADwD arc from Meereen to the Dothraki Sea, and discuss what might happen next for her, including when and how we think she'll return to Meereen. We also take a long look at who she'll encounter in her city when she finally returns-- from familiar faces to new arrivals-- and when she might finally head to Westeros. Hello, everyone, and welcome back for season 4! This week, we've got Prince Oberyn breezing into the show like a sexy hurricane while the Lannister family continues to allow petty squabbles to spoil the victorious atmosphere after the Red Wedding; Sansa gets a visit from Ser Dontos. Up at Castle Black, Jon's finding his inner Ned while Ygritte and Tormund begin their long wait for Mance's signal. Daenerys has a new Daario to look after on the road to Meereen. And in the Riverlands, The Hound has come to kick ass and eat chicken, and he successfully manages to do both of those things. Hachi machi is there a lot to talk about in the explosive conclusion to Game of Thrones season 6, where revenge is served like it's going out of style. Jon attends a very violent Woodstock festival, Daario gets dumped so he can he can run Meereen's special elections committee, and Cersei stays home from church. Elsewhere, Bran touches yet another tree, Arya bakes a pie, and pretty much every main character except for Brienne gets to do something. Maybe next year, Brienne!
Game of Thrones gets a shot in the arm in its sixth season with a Bran-heavy episode of all things, We're as surprised as you are. Elsewhere in this pair of mid-season excursions directed by series newcomer Jack Bender, Arya takes in a play, Yara and Theon attend the kingsmoot and get the king's boot, and Sansa has apparently been sewing like her life depends on it (maybe it does). Also we meet Kinvara, the very definitely important character in Meereen that will certainly have a wide-reaching impact on the saga of ice and fire. We are quite sure about this so keep your eyes and ears open for more Kinvara in the seasons to come.
We are still meeting new characters and arriving at new locations in the 3rd and 4th episodes of season 5 on Game of Thrones. Turns out adapting two giant books into one season of TV means you have to pile it on and press it down. This week it's the Sand Snakes as Jaime and Bronn have a goofy fight on the beach, and Cersei wades through dank alleys to locate the High Sparrow. At the Wall, Jon says "no" to any funny business and in Meereen, Barristan and Grey Worm are...aw well look at the time. To be continued, I guess!
Characters subject themselves to due process in this pair of mid-season Game of Thrones episodes. Tyrion stands trial while Stannis is denied a loan. Dany decides to rule Meereen and Yara decides she is very afraid of dogs. Toeman is crowned as king and everyone claps and it is not supposed to be weird.
Jon, Sansa, and Ser Davos seek help in The North. The Queen of Thorns goes home. Yara and Theon make a pit stop en route to Meereen. Arya drips water and blood. The Kingslayer confronts The Blackfish. The...

Join Bubba (@FittenTrim) and Catfish (@cjgman67) as they break down the latest episode of HBO's Game of Thrones without hitting at spoilers from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire (although, shock, we all know King Joffrey, First of His Name, First in Your Heart will have to be brought back soon to make this show worth a darn)Does the CGI of Meereen look good? Does Grey Worm seem a better actor if he doesn't speak? What happened to the fallout from Evil Uncle Jaime's rape of Queen Cersei? Will Evil Uncle Tyrion ever measure up?
This week, Caleb, Daniel, and Austin are joined by guest host Ben Friend to discuss the adrenaline-filled follow-up to the Purple Wedding. Among other things, we talk about the hugely controversial Jaime and Cersei scene that's had the whole internet buzzing, and we get hyper-analytical to discuss Game of Thrones‘ treatment of women and misogyny in general. Also, now that characters like Littlefinger are back in play, Ben and Austin take another jab at solving the great mystery of Joffrey's assassin. Last but certainly not least, we all gawk at Daenerys' brilliant strategy to take on the slave-filled city of Meereen. Is Tywin the man to follow? Is there any hope to redeem Stannis Baratheon? Is Game of Thrones channeling the Star Wars prequels with its inclusion of the Iron Bank? Tune in to hear our full discussion and answers to all your submitted questions in this week's episode of The Cast Beyond the Wall!
