Ira Parker is a writer, executive producer and showrunner who currently serves as executive producer and showrunner of HBO's A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS, which he co-created with George R. R. Martin. Taking place nearly a century before the events of GAME OF THRONES, the series follows a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg, as great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits await these improbable friends. Previously, Parker served as a writer and co-executive producer on the first season of HBO's HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, the GAME OF THRONES prequel centered on the Targaryen dynasty, where he penned episode four and played a key role in establishing the series' early narrative. In this interview, he shares some advice for rising the ranks in a writers' room, we talk about his latest project A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS, the modern pressure for fast-paced plotting, and much more. Rob's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms review: https://metro.co.uk/2026/01/18/watched-6-knight-seven-kingdoms-episodes-infectious-26328222/
"A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms" is an American fantasy drama television series created by Ira Parker and George R. R. Martin. A prequel to "Game of Thrones" (2011–2019), it is the third television series in Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" franchise and is an adaptation of the Tales of Dunk and Egg series of novellas, beginning with "The Hedge Knight." It stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan "Dunk" the Tall, the titular hedge knight, and Dexter Sol Ansell as his squire, Aegon "Egg" Targaryen. The series premiered on January 18th, 2026, on HBO, with its first season consisting of six episodes, and received positive reviews for its performances, direction, writing, and craftsmanship, particularly for Episode 5, "In the Name of the Mother" directed by Owen Harris. Dexter Sol Ansell and Owen Harris were kind enough to speak with me about their work and experience on the drama series, while Ira Parker took some time to speak with Will Mavity, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the series, which is up for your consideration for this year's Emmy Awards and is now available to stream on HBO Max. Thank you, and enjoy! ElectroCosplay joins from New York to talk about some of her favorite fantastical fandoms, plus we're talking about Cosplay too! We start things off by talking about one of the biggest fantasy video games series, Elder Scrolls. Electro and I talk about how she got into the Elder Scrolls series, and we bounce around between talking about Skyrim, Elder Scrolls Online, and how she incorporates Elder Scrolls themes and idea into her real life decorating for her home. Plus, there is a request for Elder Scrolls 6 (take note Bethesda!) From there, Electro and I talk about George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, and its television counterparts, Game of Thrones. We talk about how she first got into ASOIAF, her thoughts on the books and a particular thought about just where the final books may be. We also talk about The Game of Thrones series, plus House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. All through that, we talk about the characters, the stories, and what story she'd love to see done. We then get to Dungeons and Dragons. Electro talks about how she got interested in the game thanks to Baldur's Gate (and fan fiction!). We talk about the kinds of characters she enjoys playing, some of her favorite spells, and what keeps her coming back to slinging dice and creating stories with others. Then we wrap up with Cosplay. She talks about how she got started with zero skills and how she built her skills and repertoire from the ground up. We talk about a number of her cosplay looks, including her Royal Cookie dress and all that went into designing and creating it. Plus we hear some behind the scenes stories about debuting her work at conventions and all that goes into navigating with a huge gown. Note: This episode was actually recorded back in March and is only now hitting the airwaves. Our then-obsession is no longer new news, but we still miss those March days of weekly binge-watching, and we really miss the world of Westeros. In this episode, Cyberpink teams up with our sister podcast American Roulette (美轮美换) and special guests, Lin Santu and Wang Haolan, to unpack the new HBO Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. In this intimate, grounded tale, dragons are gone. Instead, we get the class-flipping dynamic of Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall) and Egg (Prince Aegon V Targaryen). What happens when a slum-born hedge knight meets a prince who was never meant to rule? We break down how this show departs from Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, deconstruct Westerosi politics from the bottom up, and explain why this type of simple moral tale hit harder today. From knightly tourneys to royal incest and "Targaryen Exceptionalism," this is a deep dive hardcore fans won't want to miss. 02:06 Dunk and Egg: The class-inverted friendship between a slum knight and a Targaryen prince 05:12 Fan rants: Comparing the botched ending of Game of Thrones with the adaptation issues in House of the Dragon 16:19 Social satire and the grassroots perspective hidden beneath a fairy-tale exterior 21:30 Deconstructing heroes: The legends of the Kingsguard vs. their reality as political tools 26:43 Chivalric culture: The squire system, tournaments, and historical archetypes from European feudalism 46:20 Trial by combat, "Trial of Seven," Ashford v Thornton, and real-world dueling laws 55:26 The rite of passage from page to squire: Comparing ancient Chinese status systems with European social stratification 1:02:22 Looking ahead to next season: Easter eggs and expectations for future episodes 【疲惫红书 CyberRed】 除了播客以外,疲惫娇娃的几个女的在小红书上开了官方账号,我们会不定期发布【疲惫在读】、【疲惫在看】、【疲惫旅行】、【疲惫Vlog】等等更加轻盈、好玩、实验性质的内容。如果你想知道除了播客以外我们在关注什么,快来小红书评论区和我们互动。 Apart from the podcast, we have set up an official account on Xiaohongshu. Episode Summary Nicolas Cage finally gets to be Nicolas Cage, and Frank has thoughts. This week the guys are back in studio to break down the new Spider-Noir series, the ElevenLabs deal recreating Stan Lee's voice that has fans up in arms, and the freshly revealed Minecraft Movie Squared logo and Matt Berry casting. Along the way they realize the Herobrine creepypasta they believed for years was apparently made up the whole time. The back half turns into a full 2026 mid-year check-in, ranking the year's biggest surprises like Wonder Man and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms while looking ahead to Clayface, Spider-Man Brand New Day, and House of the Dragon. Then comic writer Bill Stoddard joins to talk Murder Mouse, the gleefully unhinged book Frank describes as Chuck E. Cheese meets Disneyland meets an 80s slasher flick. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Intro, In-Studio Catch-Up, and Patreon Thanks 02:32 Minecraft Movie Squared and the Herobrine Myth 08:10 Stan Lee's AI Voice and the ElevenLabs Backlash 16:42 Spider-Noir Review 25:22 2026 Mid-Year Check-In: Movies and Shows 34:15 What's Coming Up Next: Clayface, BioShock Dreams, and More 50:32 Guest Interview: Bill Stoddard on Murder Mouse 1:02:55 Weekly Picks and Comics for the DC Blackout Key Takeaways The Minecraft Movie Squared logo sparks end-game theories, Matt Berry joins the cast, and the crew comes to terms with the Herobrine creepypasta being fabricated rather than real lore. ElevenLabs and the company holding Stan Lee's likeness launch an AI voice to read public library books, drawing heavy backlash, especially given Lee sued over his likeness rights back in 2018. Spider-Noir lands a low 8 from Frank and a 10 out of 10 from Squeaks, with the color and black-and-white toggle and the Ben Reilly name nod as standout details, though the detective pacing runs slow for modern viewers. The mid-year review crowns Wonder Man, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and The Boys finale as highlights, with Clayface, Spider-Man Brand New Day, House of the Dragon, and Lanterns leading the watchlist. A running rant on movie theater popcorn buckets covers the Lobo motorcycle, the 80 dollar Galactus, and the Masters of the Universe sword and castle, plus why studios keep missing the collectibles opportunity. Bill Stoddard breaks down the origin of Murder Mouse, the fourth-wall humor inspired by Looney Tunes, the new Head Case Comics label, and a planned From Dusk Till Dawn style one-shot. Quotes "It's legal, but not right." "It takes the value out of the voice, the words they spoke when they were alive." "Basically, Chuck E. Cheese meets Disneyland meets an 80s slasher flick." "What if the classic Mickey Mouse saw how the world was today?" "Wonder Man just came out of nowhere." Either way, Pete Weaver can't dance. Well, okay, he can, but not well enough to do any good here. Might as well just do more horrific Nutty Professor impersonations, except please don't. I feel like I had a point I was taking this at first, but I lost it, and now I guess I'm just done, not even going to retry. If Peter Vinal doesn't have to try to get a movie made, why should I try? This third television entry in the franchise adapts The Tales of Dunk and Egg, beginning with The Hedge Knight. We have a PROPOSAL (Graham, the sound effect)!!! We learn the real reason Henry went to London, Fanny doubts Henry's intentions, Henry comes to dinner, and Mary and Fanny exchange letters. Topics discussed include the Crawfords' breeding and capacity for change, Fanny's sleep paralysis demon, leaving unpleasant conversations, Lady Bertram's privilege, Fanny's OOO message, and the ultimate question of why Henry is in love with Fanny.A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms spoilers 39:55-42:15!!!Patron Study Questions come from Avi, Linnea, and Emily. Topics discussed include Mary's intimacy with Fanny and whether it's genuine, William's promotion and whether Henry is using it to manipulate Fanny, and whether the family will find out about the proposal.Becca's Study Questions: Topics discussed include how this proposal is different from other proposals, why Henry proposed at this moment, what William's promotion means for Fanny, and the end of Volume II.Funniest Quote: While her heart was still bounding with joy and gratitude on William's behalf, she could not be severely resentful of anything that injured only herself; and after having twice drawn back her hand, and twice attempted in vain to turn away from him, she got up, and said only, with much agitation, “Don't, Mr. Crawford, pray don't! I beg you would not. This is a sort of talking which is very unpleasant to me. I must go away. I cannot bear it.”Questions moving forward: Will Henry try again? Will he change? What will happen with Mary and Edmund?Who wins the chapters?
