To top it off, we provide a full, spoiler-filled review of the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 finale, discussing why Ser Duncan the Tall is the hero the Game of Thrones universe needs right now. Few episodes of television have ever balanced science fiction, romance, suspense, and raw emotional catharsis as perfectly as “The Constant.” In a season built on urgency and fractured timelines, this hour becomes something deeper: a love story disguised as a time-travel thriller. When Desmond Hume begins unsticking from time after leaving the Island by helicopter, his consciousness violently flashes between 1996 and 2004. The rules are murky, the stakes lethal. Guided by physicist Daniel Faraday, Desmond learns he needs a “constant” — a person anchored in both timelines — or his mind will burn out. That constant is Penny Widmore. What follows is the show's most unforgettable sequence: a cross-cut phone call that bends time but lands with devastating emotional clarity. When Penny answers the phone on Christmas Eve, eight years after Desmond last saw her, the sci-fi scaffolding falls away and we're left with something timeless — longing, regret, and love refusing to be erased by physics.“The Constant” is often called the best episode of Lost, and for good reason:It proves the show's mythology works best when grounded in human stakes. It rewards long-term investment in character arcs.It delivers one of television's most emotionally satisfying payoffs. It shows how genre storytelling can be intimate rather than bombastic. It's not just clever — it's moving. Not just ambitious — but precise. The kind of episode that reminds you why serialized television can feel transcendent. And that brings us to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms — the quiet miracle none of us saw coming. After the divisive ending of Game of Thrones, many fans felt unmoored. The political grandeur and moral complexity that once defined Westeros seemed swallowed by spectacle. For some, the magic was gone. Then came Dunk and Egg.Set decades before the War of the Five Kings, the series trades apocalyptic stakes for something far more intimate: honor, loyalty, friendship. Ser Duncan the Tall isn't playing the game of thrones — he's trying to survive it with decency intact. And young Aegon V (Egg) brings a hopeful lens to a world we thought we understood.Like “The Constant,” A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms succeeds because it remembers what made its universe powerful in the first place: character over chaos. It slows down. It breathes. It lets moments land. Instead of chasing shock value, it rebuilds trust through sincerity.Where “The Constant” showed that Lost was never really about the Island but about connection, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reminds us that Westeros was never just about who sits the Iron Throne — it's about the people wandering the roads beneath it.Both stories strip away the noise. Both center emotional anchors. Both prove that spectacle means nothing without heart. And in doing so, they resurrect something precious: belief.Belief that television can still surprise us.Belief that long-form storytelling can still move us.Belief that love — whether across time or across kingdoms — is the only constant that matters.Be sure to keep coming back every week for more great content, only on the #talkintvpodcast

Hey everyone! We've got a packed episode for you this week as we dive into two very different worlds of storytelling.First up, we're talking about Crime 101, a thriller that's been getting buzz for its fresh take on the crime genre. We'll break down the plot twists, discuss the performances, and debate whether it lives up to the hype. Then we're heading back to Westeros with HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. This prequel series takes us about a century before the events of Game of Thrones, following the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg as they navigate the Seven Kingdoms during a more "peaceful" time (as peaceful as Westeros gets, anyway).

Robert Duvall Passed Away at 95, and it Seems too Soon This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl honor the legendary Robert Duvall, break down the latest Warner Bros. Discovery and Skydance merger talks, and review the penultimate episode of HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Corporate power plays and Westerosi lances collide. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Robert Duvall: 3:51 Warner Bros/Skydance: 9:07 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: 23:43 Robert Duvall January 5, 1931 – February 15, 2026 Robert Duvall was one of the defining American actors of the modern era. A founding member of the American Film Theatre movement and a classmate of Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman at the Neighborhood Playhouse, Duvall built a career on discipline, restraint, and volcanic presence. Career Highlights: Tom Hagen in The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather Part II (1974) – The calm consigliere in a world of chaos. Controlled, intellectual menace. Lt. Colonel Bill Kilgore in Apocalypse Now (1979) – “I love the smell of napalm in the morning.” One of cinema's most iconic performances. Oscar Winner for Tender Mercies (1983) – Best Actor for his deeply human portrayal of a broken country singer. The Great Santini (1979) – A towering, volatile performance that earned him an Academy Award nomination. Lonesome Dove (1989) – Cemented his legacy in the Western genre. Later career standouts: The Apostle (which he also wrote and directed), Open Range, The Judge. Duvall's strength was subtle authority. He never chased flash. He built characters from the inside out. In an industry obsessed with volume, he mastered quiet. Hollywood didn't just lose a legend. It lost a craftsman. https://variety.com/2026/film/news/paramount-skydance-response-warner-bros-discovery-deal-talks-1236665757/ Warner Bros./Skydance Will They/Won’t They Warner Bros. Discovery has reportedly reopened acquisition discussions with Skydance and Paramount, injecting fresh volatility into an already chaotic media landscape. Paramount previously floated a $30 per share offer, potentially rising to $31. Meanwhile, shareholder votes and competing interests continue to complicate the picture. This is consolidation round… what, 47? The real question is what this means for IP control, franchise strategy, and the long-term survival of mid-budget filmmaking. Every merger promises “synergy.” Historically, synergy often translates to layoffs, canceled projects, and fewer creative risks. We break down what this could mean for DC Studios, HBO prestige content, and the streaming wars at large. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO Max) Season 1, Episode 5 (Penultimate Episode) Episode Title: “In the Name of the Mother” Directed by: Owen Harris Written by: Hiram Martinez & Ti Mikkel and Ira Parker Summary: The trial of seven begins. In the first charge, Aerion knocks Dunk off his horse. In a series of flashbacks to Dunk’s childhood, he and his friend Rafe scavenge from a battlefield. They return to Flea Bottom in King’s Landing and pickpocket from Alester, a City Watchman. Dunk and Rafe attempt to buy passage to the Free Cities in Essos, but cannot afford it. Alester corners them and takes their money. Rafe steals Alester’s dagger, but he notices and slits her throat. Arlan emerges from a tavern and kills Alester, saving Dunk, who then follows Arlan on his travels. In the present, Dunk duels Aerion on foot until both men collapse from injury. After Dunk falls unconscious, Aerion declares him dead. Egg begs Dunk to get up, and the crowd chants for Dunk as he stands. Dunk and Aerion resume their duel until Dunk gets the upper hand. Aerion yields and withdraws his accusation. In the aftermath, Beesbury and Hardyng are confirmed as killed. Dunk pledges fealty to Baelor. Raymun and Pate help Baelor remove his helmet, which Maekar struck with his mace during the trial, revealing a fatal wound. Baelor collapses from his injury and dies in Dunk’s arms. The jousting sequences are shot with brutal realism. Armor feels heavy. Impacts feel dangerous. The episode underscores a central thesis of Martin's work: nobility is aspirational, not guaranteed. Key Cast: Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen Production Notes: The series distinguishes itself from House of the Dragon by focusing on intimate political storytelling rather than large-scale spectacle. The penultimate episode prioritizes character psychology, legacy, and the myth of knighthood over spectacle-driven chaos. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms HBO and George R.R. Martin aren't done with us yet. We're heading back to Westeros to follow a new kind of story. Gone are the multi-generational tales of Kings, Queens, Empires and Dragons; this time we're focusing on a single Hedgeknight and the little boy who wants to be his squire. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms adapts the first of the novellas that introduced these characters, and is a different direction for the whole Game of Thrones Behemoth. In this episode Dion is our Hedgeknight dujour, and Jill and Peta both show no interest at all of being his squire. Quinny is in a character entirely different book series. Synopsis A century before the events of "Game of Thrones," two unlikely heroes wander Westeros. In an adaption of George R. R. Martin's novella "The Hedge Knight," a young and naive but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg, face a series of dangerous exploits. https://youtu.be/1qQtCQvvOpc As always, an chivalrous thank-you to all you Hedge-knights and hedge-days join in with the conversation on the Twitch stream, live each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEDT. Spoilers, profanity, Jaime x Brienne. Egg has to watch this age-inappropriate trial, but Guile would never have watched The Hunger Games. Humfrey Beesbury got a honey mustache instead of an introduction, but what a mustache it is. We all love Ser Duncan the Tall's pre-teen backstory, but we don't love the extra unexpected pain. Maekar continues to be a fav, but we all have to admit this battle wouldn't have worked without Finn Bennett's efforts as Aerion. Raymun stans unite as the green apple comes through battle unfazed, or should we say unbruised. Farewell Baelor Breakhearts, maybe we should spin you off into a Blackfyre Rebellion prequel? We're happy with this episode as it is, but we also want the extended cut. AKotSK. A Song of Ice and Fire. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - 1x05 - In the Name of the Mother. Jordan welcomes Logan on the podcast to discuss the fourth episode of the new Game of Thrones series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. This series focuses on the Hedge Knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (also known as Dunk) and his squire Egg.  In episode four, Dunk faces a trial for his crime of protecting the innocent. Dunk asks for a trial by combat which Prince Aerion declares must be a Trial of Seven, where each side must find 6 others to fight on their behalf in a 7v7 battle. The problem is Dunk only has Steffon Fossoway on his side, Egg goes to find more while the clock ticks down on when the trial begins.Jordan and Logan also discuss the evidence mounting that Dunk was potentially never knighted, and how they think the remaining two episodes will be structured. Episode Four“Seven”Written By: Aziza Barnes & Annie Julia Wyman and Ira ParkerDirected By: Sarah Adina SmithAired: February 6, 2026 on HBO MaxWE HAVE A DISCORD! Join it here: https://discord.com/invite/QfDYKZSUKGFollow the show:Twitter: @SupesandSabers  Linktr.ee/SupesandSabersFollow Logan and The Screen Society Pod:Twitter: ScreenSocPod Linktr.ee/thescreensocietypod

Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Sanderson: 8:45 Wonderman: 19:00 Dunk & Egg: 35:07 Brandon Sanderson's Literary Fantasy Universe ‘Cosmere' Picked Up by Apple TV (Exclusive) https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/brandon-sandersons-mistborn-stormlight-archive-movie-tv-1236487271/ Wonderman (Disney+) Episode 1 – “Matinee” (Premiere) Episode 1 introduces us to Simon Williams (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a struggling actor and stuntman whose career is in a tailspin. After being fired from a TV role and dumped by his girlfriend, Simon is at a crossroads. When he runs into Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), a fellow actor with an eccentric reputation, he learns Slattery is auditioning for a remake of the classic superhero film Wonder Man — a movie Simon loved as a kid and which inspired him to pursue acting in the first place. Simon pushes for a shot at the role, but his agent refuses. Undeterred, he somehow lands an audition alongside Slattery anyway. Slattery gives him advice that helps him make an impression. Meanwhile, Department of Damage Control agent P. Cleary secretly contacts Slattery with instructions to watch Simon closely because he might have actual superpowers, tying Simon's acting ambitions to real-world MCU stakes. This episode sets up two parallel arcs: Simon's Hollywood hustle and dream of stardom, and the hint that he may be more than just an actor, potentially linking him to actual superhero abilities and the broader Marvel universe. Tone-wise, Episode 1 blends industry satire, comedy, and superhero setup, spotlighting the absurdities of Hollywood while weaving in classic MCU connective tissue. Ratings: Out of 5 Here’s a Note For You… Get Out Darryl: 3.75/5 Brian: 3.8/5 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO Max) Episode 1 – “The Hedge Knight” This premiere introduces Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall) and Egg (the boy who becomes his squire), setting up the tone and stakes for the series. It takes place about 100 years before Game of Thrones and focuses on a smaller-scale story full of character and humor rather than sweeping war and politics. Here's what happens: Dunk buries his mentor, Ser Arlan of Pennytree, and takes his sword, shield, and three horses as he heads toward the Ashford tourney, hoping to make his name and find work. At an inn, he meets a young bald boy who asks to be his squire. After initially refusing, Dunk ultimately accepts him and names the boy Egg. At Ashford, Dunk tries to enter the tournament but learns he needs someone reputable to vouch for him. He seeks out knights who knew Ser Arlan, but nobody will put their name on the line for a wandering hedge knight. Along the way we see the rough, earthy humor and grounded Westerosi world the show is leaning into (including some decidedly human moments missing from prior franchise entries). By the end, Dunk officially becomes Ser Duncan the Tall, and he and Egg share a moment under the stars, signaling the start of their journey together. Tone note: it's lighter and more character-focused than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, blending heartfelt moments with gritty, grounded humor. Episode 2 – “Hard Salt Beef” In the second episode, Dunk's quest to enter the Ashford tourney continues and the story expands slightly into the world's wider politics and personality. Key beats: Dunk spends much of the episode telling other knights about his mentor Ser Arlan, trying to get someone to vouch for him so he can compete, but keeps getting brushed off. Egg helps by pointing out the unfairness of Dunk needing permission when he's already a knight, showing how their dynamic is evolving. Members of House Targaryen arrive at the tourney — princes including Baelor, Maekar, and Aerion — and their presence adds weight to the event. Dunk overhears a conversation about missing Targaryen children and uses the moment (and a bit of boldness) to appeal directly to Prince Baelor to vouch for him. Baelor does remember Ser Arlan and, while not lavish in praise, quietly ensures Dunk's name is added to the tournament list. Dunk and Egg also start to settle more into the tourney rhythm — from watching performances to joining in games — as Dunk grapples with what legacy and honor really mean in this world. This episode deepens the relationship between Dunk and Egg, introduces more of Westeros's nobility (in a relatively casual, grounded way), and frames Dunk's struggles not just to fight but to matter. Quick Character & World Context Dunk and Egg are adapted from the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas by George R.R. Martin. The series is intentionally smaller in scale, focusing on relationships and the everyday lives of knights and squires rather than epic political wars or dragons. Charlie Puth is a great follow on social media. Brooklyn Beckham does “not want to reconcile” with Victoria and David Beckham. Is cancelling your parents a rude trend or an important step to peace? This is the conversation of the day. The newest Game of Thrones spin-off has Sarah and Bob drooling. Are parents today too soft, or are kids jerks? Things have really changed over the years.

Spoilers, profanity, Jaime x Brienne. Ser Duncan the Tall and his mysterious hairless squire "Egg" start their adventures in episode 1 of the first season of HBO's latest foray into Westeros. We love the casting, we love the tone, and we love the little digs at Game of Thrones. Is there more book dialogue than original dialogue? Is Tanselle a puppeteer or is she more of special effects artist? Is Ser Lyonel Baratheon the Laughing Storm worth the UTI? More importantly, is half this episode just us talking about George's latest interview with the Hollywood Reporter? AKotS. A Song of Ice and Fire. We're riding back into Westeros with Dunk & Egg, George R.R. Martin's lighter, lore-rich prequel following the unlikely duo of Ser Duncan the Tall and his sharp squire, Egg—set about 90 years before Game of Thrones. We break down how this series fits between House of the Dragon and ASOIAF, dig into the three original novellas, and react to a pilot that's surprisingly breezier (yes, including some truly unhinged Westerosi gross-out moments). From tourneys at Ashford to meta jokes, lighter music, and the birth of a legendary partnership, we wrap by picking favorite moments and deciding if we're all in for the season ahead. Tarth, nicknamed the Sapphire Isle, is a beautiful island in Shipbreaker Bay, and has long been a part of the Stormlands. Eons ago they had their own kings with both First Man and Andal ancestry, but the rulers of Tarth have always been dubbed “the Evenstar”, and have resided in Evenfall Hall while maintaining strength at sea. Island folk are always at least a little different from mainlanders and they are no exception. This is the house of Brienne after all, but the story of House Tarth includes another historical exception as well - Ser Duncan the Tall, not to mention a blood connection to House Targaryen.HoW Audience Survey - bit.ly/howsurveyBonus Eps & More - patreon.com/historyofwesterosShirts & Stickers - historyofwesteros.threadless.comwww.historyofwesteros.comIntro/Maps - klaradox.deFacebook Group - bit.ly/howfbDiscord - bit.ly/howdiscordNina - goodqueenaly.tumblr.com/
