Beatrice Capote shares how Cuban dance of the African diaspora influences her as a performer, educator, artist and creator of the Capotechnique.  BIOBeatrice Capote is a Cuban American contemporary dancer, choreographer, educator and founder of Contempo: Capotechnique Exercises. In her work, she fuses Modern, Ballet, African and Afro-Cuban dance techniques to support artists with building technical skills while deepening knowledge on African Diaspora traditions.Ms. Capote has served as the choreographer for Citrus, a choreopoem play (Northern Stages) & The Wedding Band Musical (Montclair State University). She has received choreographic commissions from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and The Dark Elegy Project inspired by Suse Lowenstein performed at Gibney Dance. In 2019, she was a MANCC Forward Dialogues artist in residence where she developed her most recent solo based on “Reyita, The Life of a Black Cuban Woman in the Twentieth Century” written by Maria De los Reyes Castillo Bueno. Her work has also been shown in major festivals/venues such as WestFest Dance Festival, Battery Dance Festival, BAAD! ASS Women's Festival, Amherst College, Casita Maria!, Contemporary Dance Series at Bryant Park, Vision Festival and more. She began her training at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and was featured in “Attitude! Eight Young Dancers Come of Age at the Ailey School” written by Katharine Davis Fisherman. She received her A.A. from University of North Carolina School of the Arts, a B.A. in Dance Education and an MFA focused on Afro-Cuban Dance Forms from Montclair State University. During the graduate program, her MFA Thesis choreography excerpt was featured on Bronx NETTV.Ms. Capote has performed for prestigious companies such as INSPIRIT, a dance company and Kyle Abraham/Abraham. In. Motion. She is a current member of Bessie Award-winning Camille A. We will talk with teaching artist Rebecca Potts about why arts education is important to youth and what it was like to teach art during the Pandemic.Rebecca Potts Aguirre is a teaching artist from Montana currently living in Los Angeles. Her work is inspired by the intersection between ecological concern and the female experience, especially that of motherhood and trauma, often using unconventional materials that connect to childhood and “women's work.” She is represented by Stay Home Gallery for 2021. She is also a member of Spilt Milk Gallery and is listed in the curated directories All She Makes and Visionary Art Collective.Her practice consists of 3 spheres: art-making, teaching, and community building. She has worked in art education for 15 years and founded and hosts Teaching Artist Podcast, highlighting artists who teach young people. She coordinates the Art Educator's Lounge, a community support group for art educators, in collaboration with Victoria Fry. She also runs Play + Inspire Gallery in partnership with Maria Coit.Rebecca earned her MFA in Visual Arts from Washington University in St. Louis and her BA in Studio Art & Geography from Middlebury College. Her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and in Europe and Australia at spaces including The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, Zhou B. Art Center, New York Studio Gallery, Art Share L.A., and SoLA Contemporary. In 2010, her essay on art and climate change, “Creating a Fourth Culture,” was published in 20UNDER40: Re-Inventing the Arts and Arts Education for the 21st Century. Rebecca's MFA Thesis in 2009 also addressed the role of art and artists in addressing climate change.She has also worked as an arts administrator, community organizer, and school co-founder. She participated in the Artist Residency in Motherhood from 2015-2019, which was the time it took to fully resume her art practice after becoming a mother.

Candice Rollerson learned how to push beyond the boundaries at the Academy of Art University. She shares her story of becoming a professional with the support of her peers and mentors during her career as a photography student. For her MFA Thesis project, 'Life Constructed: A Journey', Rollerson exhibits her artwork at the Sutter Street Gallery.
