Malaysia's organ donation rate is among the lowest in the world, with only 2.84 transplant procedures carried out per one million population in 2021. Recently, the Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin announced that organ donation registration can now be made through MySejahtera, which is believed to help encourage more donors to pledge. Consultant urologist Dr Vijayan Manogran and consultant nephrologist Dr Sunita Bavanandan join Azrul Mohd Khalib from the Galen Centre for Health & Social Policy, to explore the barriers to organ donation in Malaysia, and why the need is more urgent than ever, considering the burden of diseases that require organ transplants.

AMONG the headlines for Thursday, 17 June, 2021, the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said the government may allow walk-ins at its vaccination centres, only after those who have already signed up for appointments, either through the programme's online portal or the MySejahtera receive their jab appointments. Also, concerns rise about the efficacy of some vaccines against more virulent virus strains, as more than 350 Indonesian doctors have been infected with COVID-19 and dozens have been hospitalised in Kudus, even after being inoculated with China's Sinovac. Most of the doctors were asymptomatic and self-isolating at home, but dozens were in hospital with high fevers and declining oxygen saturation levels. Kudus is battling an outbreak believed to be driven by the more transmissible Delta variant which has pushed bed occupancy rates above 90% in the district. AMONG the headlines for Wednesday, 2 June, 2021,  expectant and breastfeeding mothers will now be able to declare themselves as such on the MySejahtera app. This is a new feature added to the mobile application, according to the Ministry of Health. With some confusion popping up on how the two hour retail time limit will be enforced, domestic trade and consumer affairs minister Alexander Nanta Linggi clarified that MySejahtera will be the main enforcement and tracking tool used.
