I'm immeasurably uplifted by some Trade Me data. Could it be we are finally getting the message on rural or provincial New Zealand? Job data increasingly shows we're looking to the regions for work. More people (68%) are prepared to move, supposedly. Always be careful of surveys because what people say versus what they do doesn't always equate. But at least some of the 68% must actually pull the trigger. There has been a 12% month-on-month search increase in job ads. The likes of New Plymouth is up 40%, Invercargill is up 37%, and Palmerston North is 23%. I have said for years, if you can do what you do anywhere, why would you do it in a place you can't afford to live in? A lack of money makes life miserable. It limits choices, makes us stressed, and closes financial doors. Too many people are stuck in places like Auckland. Auckland is disproportionately large and the salaries that this country pays, on average, do not support a decent life in a place like Auckland, or Queenstown, or possibly even a large slice of the Bay of Plenty. But there are a lot of jobs where the wage is the same no matter what the location. In fact, one of the most glaring pieces of intel is your average wage and it's broadly the same in most places in the country. It's a little higher in Wellington because of the public service, but overall, between $70,000-80,000 is where we sit on average. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know that if, as a couple, you earn two lots of $70,000-ish a year, $140,000-ish together, it goes a hell of a lot of further in Nelson than it does in Auckland or Queenstown. The house on the West Coast is nothing like the north of the country. This land is festooned with amazing provincial cities that have a lot of the big city access and choices. Even Christchurch, which is booming, is still comparatively affordable and by the time you get to small town New Zealand you are rolling in it in your $500,000 house, no commute, later get-up, less stress, and all the while doing the same job. So I hope the stats are real and the move is on. There is a lot of New Zealand that has never been fully utilised or appreciated. If your lot is too hard, move. You won't know yourself. Italian wine inspires passion, curiosity, and, for many people, a fair amount of confusion. Even devoted wine lovers can feel overwhelmed when faced with Italy's astonishing range of native grape varieties, regional traditions, appellations, and bottles whose labels sometimes seem to raise more questions than answers. Unlike wine cultures built around a relatively smaller group of internationally recognized grapes, Italy's wine identity is gloriously complex, shaped by geography, history, climate, and deeply local traditions that can shift dramatically from one valley to the next. That's precisely what makes Italian Wine: The History, Regions, and Grapes of an Iconic Wine Country, co-authored by Kate Leahy and Shelley Lindgren, such a genuinely useful and engaging book. In our recent podcast conversation,  Kate and I talked not only about the book itself, but about why Italian wine remains one of the most fascinating, and sometimes misunderstood, wine cultures in the world. Host and American Family Farmer, Doug Stephan (www.eastleighfarm.com) shares the biggest news affecting smaller family farmers, starting with the Farm Bill. The House is working on another draft Farm Bill, continuing with the hold up. Additionally, the U.S. House passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 (H.R. 8467) on April 30, 2026, with a 224-200 bipartisan vote, advancing a new five-year farm bill that strengthens crop insurance, raises commodity reference prices, and reauthorizes USDA programs through 2031. The bill now faces a difficult path in the Senate, where it needs 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. The Farm Bill also contains significant changes to SNAP (food assistance), which has been a major point of debate, with many questioning why this is even included on this bill at all. Moving along, a new study suggests people living in areas with heavy pesticide use face significantly higher risk of cancer. The research suggests that combinations of pesticides, even those considered safe individually, can act together to damage cells, suggesting environmental exposure is a major, previously underestimated factor in cancer rates. Regions with high agricultural activity, specifically the US Midwest, showed significantly higher cancer incidence, with some estimates suggesting risks comparable to or higher than smoking for certain cancers. The study found that "pesticide cocktails"—combinations of chemicals (like Glyphosate, Atrazine, and [Dicamba])—multiply cancer risk, rather than any single chemical acting alone. Even pesticides deemed "non-carcinogenic" individually by regulatory standards appear to contribute to cancer risk when combined in the environment. Researchers identified that these mixtures can disrupt liver cells—a primary detoxification organ—years before a cancer diagnosis. The study linked higher exposure to increased rates of leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and cancers of the bladder, colon, lung, and pancreas. In case you missed it, May is Mental Health Month. The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) Farm State of Mind campaign, supported by the Farm State of Mind Alliance formed in 2025, works to reduce mental health stigma and increase access to resources for farmers and ranchers. The initiative provides a national directory, free counseling, and training to support mental wellness in rural communities. Founded by AFBF, National Farmers Union, National 4-H Council, and Farm Foundation, the Alliance brings together trusted voices to make, “It's okay not to be okay,” a standard in agricultural communities. The campaign utilizes initiatives like farm-focused mental health articles in magazines and on TV. The campaign emphasizes May as Mental Health Awareness Month to reach out to neighbors in the agricultural community. For more on the American Family Farmer…Website: AmericanFamilyFarmerShow.comSocial Media: @GoodDayNetworks

Regions of Captivity and Spiritual Prisons (How Jesus Sets Captives Free) - Discovering Truth with Dan Duval

In this intense and thought-provoking episode, Dan Duval presents a non-traditional framework of spiritual warfare and deliverance, moving far beyond the common “cast out demons” approach. He introduces the concept of regions of captivity—spiritual, psychological, and even symbolic spaces where parts of a person's soul or identity may be held due to trauma, spiritual influence, or deeply rooted experiences. The episode weaves together biblical interpretation, personal ministry experiences, and controversial spiritual claims to argue that human brokenness can result in fragmentation—not just emotionally or psychologically, but spiritually. According to this perspective, these fragments may become trapped in internal subconscious “worlds,” external spiritual realms, or even attached to physical objects.  Dan connects these ideas to scriptures such as Psalm 23, Psalm 88, Isaiah 61, Revelation 18, and Ezekiel 13, offering a literal interpretation that suggests captivity is not merely symbolic but experiential. He also explores how trauma, memory, and belief systems can create internal prisons, reinforcing cycles of pain, fear, and limitation. A major theme of the episode is restoration—the belief that through Christ, individuals can reclaim lost parts of themselves, break free from unseen bondage, and experience deeper healing. Whether understood spiritually, psychologically, or metaphorically, this episode challenges listeners to reconsider the nature of freedom, identity, and healing. You can register for the Bride Ministries Marriage Advance here: https://marriage.bridemovement.comThen we ENCOURAGE you to do 4 QUICK THINGS!!Sign up to be a podcast memberwww.danduval.comBe sure to check out and like our new Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/DiscoveringTruthNetworkSubscribe to the new podcast YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5nxloF2rt7-dXkjppGHdFAAND Subscribe to our Rumble Channel, where we will post all of our interviews that are TOO HOT for YouTube!DiscoveringTruthNetwork (rumble.com)

The predominant focus of our discourse today centers on the critical wildfire emergencies unfolding across the Southern Plains, where a confluence of red flag warnings, extreme weather conditions, and active wildfires necessitates urgent attention. Regions including Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico are experiencing gusty winds, soaring temperatures, and alarmingly low humidity levels, which collectively exacerbate the fire hazards. Notably, significant evacuations have been mandated in various locales, particularly in Oklahoma, where fast-moving blazes pose substantial threats to residential areas. Conversely, the Midwest grapples with severe flooding resulting from substantial rainfall over the Easter weekend, with numerous rivers exceeding flood stage. Niuheliang: The Ancient Discovery That Pushed China's Civilization Back 1,000 YearsToday, we'll talk about Niuheliang, an ancient remote landscape north of the Great Wall that's rediscovery transformed our understanding of China's earliest civilization by challenging the long-held belief that it had emerged only from the great river valleys. For a long time, the story of Chinese civilization seemed settled. According to conventional wisdom, its origins lay firmly in the great river valleys of central China, especially along the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. It was there, scholars believed, that agriculture first flourished, settlements grew into cities, writing emerged, and early states took shape. Regions beyond these river basins, particularly the lands north of the Great Wall, were usually treated as marginal zones, places influenced by the center rather than sources of innovation themselves. That narrative began to change slowly and unevenly during the twentieth century, and one of the most powerful challenges to it emerged from an unexpected place: a remote, wind-swept landscape in western Liaoning Province in northeast China, known today as Niuheliang. The first attempts to understand the ancient past of this region were marked by ambition and frustration. In the early 1930s, 26-year-old Liang Siyong, a young Chinese archaeologist trained in the United States, returned home determined to apply modern archaeological methods to China's prehistoric past. At the time, archaeology in China was still in its infancy. Scholars were beginning to move away from relying solely on ancient texts and were turning instead to the material evidence buried underground. This shift reflected a broader intellectual belief that history had to be reconstructed from tangible remains rather than inherited narratives.Liang Siyong set his sights on northeastern China, an area that had attracted the attention of foreign researchers who reported traces of Neolithic cultures scattered across hills and riverbanks. These early clues suggested that the region might hold answers to questions about China's earliest societies. Yet conditions on the ground were unforgiving. Disease outbreaks blocked travel routes, extreme cold froze the soil solid, and bandit activity made long journeys dangerous. Even when excavation was possible, it was often cut short by weather or logistics.Political events soon brought all such efforts to an abrupt end. In 1931, the Japanese invasion of northeastern China plunged the region into war and occupation. Archaeological research ceased almost overnight. For years afterward, the ancient cultures of the northeast remained largely inaccessible, their secrets buried once more beneath earth, snow, and silence. In the decades that followed, only scattered individuals continued to pay attention to this neglected region. A few local educators and amateur researchers conducted small surveys in their spare time, recording pottery fragments and stone tools, and occasionally publishing brief reports. Some even speculated that major discoveries might one day emerge from places like Niuheliang. But their voices were easily drowned out by the turmoil of war and the predominance of established academic assumptions. The idea that a highly developed prehistoric culture might have flourished north of the Great Wall remained, at best, a fringe possibility. After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, archaeology entered a new phase. Systematic excavations expanded, and major sites from the central plains reinforced the belief that Chinese civilization had a single core. Although prehistoric cultures in the north were increasingly recognized and given names, they were still often described as regional or peripheral, developing under the influence of more advanced societies farther south. Jade objects found in private collections and museums hinted at a so
