There’s no sugarcoating it. The big-name free agent signed to a five-year, $175 million contract hasn’t lived up to expectations, and his underperformance is dragging down the entire team. Bregman’s offense isn’t the only issue for the Cubs right now, but the All-Star third baseman stood at his Wrigley Field locker late Sunday night and blamed himself for the team-wide slump that could ruin the entire season. The US Navy is lost at sea and in the thrall of exquisite platform that be the maritime tombs of tens of thousands of sailors in the coming wars of the 21st century. The acquisition system is broken beyond repair, burn it down. The aircraft carrier has been a signature component of US naval power and prestige for more than a century. The utility has continued to diminish since the end of WWII. The tremendous disadvantage of putting so much manpower and treasure into these single use leviathan systems in the modern world of distributed missile and PGM systems, emerging near-peer & peer adversaries and concentration of power in vulnerable systems is a recipe for future disaster. The US Navy surface fleet is in tatters and shattered by readiness, maintenance and armament issues that are critical indicators of a navy totally unprepared.More on the carrier dilemma in Chasing Ghosts Episode #034, WarNotes #10 and Dispatch #006.Note: This post is published a little early due to my attendance at the Military Operations Research Society Annual Symposium in CO this week.References:The Documents Exist: Nobody Assigned Them As Mandatory Reading. What Would Rickover Do?Jeff Vandenengel National Policy and the Panoceanic NavyJames D, Hornfischer Who Can Hold the Sea: The U.S. Navy in the Cold War 1945-1960Gregory Vistica Fall from Glory: The Men Who Sank the U.S. NavyMichael Junge Crimes of Command: in the United States Navy, 1945-2015Gerry Doyle Carrier Killer: China's Anti-Ship Ballistic Missiles and Theater of Operations in the early 21st CenturyDavid Lee Russell Early U.S. Navy Carrier Raids, February-April 1942: Five Operations That Tested a New Dimension of American Air PowerJeff Vandenengel Questioning the Carrier: Opportunities in Fleet Design for the U.S. NavyJeff Vandenengel interview on Midrats with CDR SalamanderIvan Gogin Fighting ships of the PEOPLE LIBERATION ARMY NAVY 1949 - 2023Jerry Hendrix Retreat From Range: The Rise and Fall of Carrier AviationMy SubstackWrite me at cgpodcast@pm.me

Andy and Brendan! went LIVE on YouTube for this Friday morning recording covering the latest in college golf results, LIV golf rumors, and a hot start for Tom Kim at an outdoor golf venue. The two recap Stanford's win at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship and wonder why college golf has not taken off like other non-revenue sports like baseball and softball in recent years. Brendan shares some intel from LIV Korea, where it seems like tensions are high heading into next week's stop in Spain. Talor Gooch has the early lead there, perhaps as a tribute to his beloved Thunder's deep run into the Western Conference Finals. LIV also discontinued its "Any Shot, Any Time" feed on the app, making Andy wonder just how many app viewers are now left in the dark due to this unannounced change. A beefy Flashback Friday on the PGA Tour's history at Colonial Country Club makes for the bulk of this episode. Brendan did some digging and found articles written by one of Lee Harvey Oswald's pallbearers that go into detail about the hijinks about the early days of the PGA Tour's time in Fort Worth. As we come to find out, some articles even quoted a player as naming Colonial “the premier girl-watching stop on Tour." SGS Golf Advice rounds out the week, with Andy, Brendan, and PJ tackling submissions about playing golf with randoms, a late WD from a buddies' tournament, and what to do if someone skins a squirrel they kept in a cart cooler. Day 1,553.Today, in the aftermath of one of the most intense aerial assaults on Ukraine of the entire war, we report on fresh strikes against Russia's Tuapse oil refinery – the site of the extraordinary “manmade volcano” that has become symbolic of Kyiv's campaign against Moscow's energy infrastructure. Antonia Langford joins us live from Kyiv after witnessing ballistic missile attacks on the capital firsthand. We also examine the shrinking number of countries contributing to the Czech-led ammunition initiative, which now supplies around half of Ukraine's artillery ammunition, and assess Britain's attempt to regain control of the political narrative after last week's easing of sanctions on Russia by unveiling new measures targeting cryptocurrency networks accused of financing Putin's war machine.Contributors:Francis Dearnley (Host on Ukraine: The Latest). @FrancisDearnley on X.Dominic Nicholls (Host on Ukraine: The Latest). @DomNicholls on X.Antonia Langford (Freelance Journalist in Kyiv). @Antonialford on X.NOW IN FULL VIDEO WITH MAPS & BATTLEFIELD FOOTAGE:Every episode is now available on our YouTube channel shortly after the release of the audio version. Today's episode features Madison Burke, a trained interventionist and recovery professional whose journey through addiction, chronic illness, mental health struggles, and recovery reshaped her understanding of identity and success. Despite appearing highly functional on the outside, Madison spent years battling substance use, unmanaged diabetes, depression, and survival mode behind the scenes. Madison shares with Joanna and listeners what it was like to experience her body breaking down before her mind was ready to fully confront her addiction. She also discusses the pressure to “keep it together,” the hidden reality of high functioning addiction, and how recovery forced her to rediscover who she was outside of achievement and crisis. Today, Madison helps individuals and families navigate addiction and healing through a whole-family recovery approach grounded in compassion and lived experience.Madison's Resources:LinkedIn: Madison BurkeWebsite: Maxwell Recovery ServicesConnect with Joanna Lilley Therapeutic Consulting AssociationLilley Consulting WebsiteLilley Consulting on Facebook Email: joanna@lilleyconsulting.com#TherapeuticConsulting #LilleyConsulting #Successful #TherapeuticPrograms #Therapy #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #Podcast #PodcastCommunity #TheJourney #SuccessIsSubjectivePodcast #TheUnpavedRoad #PFCAudioVideo #AddictionRecovery #RecoveryIsPossible
A man in northeast Ohio saved a 46-year-old mom and 8-year-old daughter from their sinking car in a pond. STORY: https://www.wdjx.com/man-saves-a-woman-and-her-daughter-from-sinking-car/
Kaycee McIntosh and Julie Henningsen recount the June 2008 Regatta de Amigos disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, when the 38-foot racing sailboat Cynthia Woods lost its keel, punched a hole in the hull, and capsized in 30–60 seconds about 11 miles south of Matagorda. Safety officer Roger Stone woke to rising water, warned the crew, and pushed two sleeping sailors up through the flooding companionway, but never surfaced; five others survived by lashing together, keeping a positive mindset, and signaling with a single flashlight until the Coast Guard rescued them 26 hours later, while their EPIRB and life raft were trapped below deck. The episode highlights wearing life jackets early, carrying a waterproof light, having a float plan, and mounting EPIRBs for automatic access, then covers conflicting investigations, a settlement supporting Stone's children, and his posthumous Coast Guard Gold Lifesaving Medal. 00:00 Podcast Intro 00:29 Nightmare Below Deck 02:49 Meet the Crew 07:23 Rough Night Conditions 10:42 Keel Failure Chaos 15:23 Escape Into Darkness 17:17 Staying Alive Together 19:46 No Beacon No Raft 21:46 Needle in Haystack Rescue 25:05 Recovery and Loss 25:31 Safety Lessons Offshore 29:24 Investigations and Lawsuit 33:44 Honoring Roger Stone 36:07 Final Takeaways and Outro Listen AD FREE: Support our podcast at patreaon: http://patreon.com/TheCruxTrueSurvivalPodcast Email us! thecruxsurvival@gmail.com Instagram https://www.instagram.com/thecruxpodcast/ Get schooled by Julie in outdoor wilderness medicine! https://www.headwatersfieldmedicine.com/ KEY REFERENCES: "Roger Stone: The TAMUG Hero You've Never Heard Of." This episode of Idle Talk from King's Auto Repair (West Reading) covers a handful of real-world “odd” problems that showed up in the shop—exactly the kind of issues drivers struggle to describe until they become safety concerns. Topics include: - A rare ABS hydraulic control unit (HCU) failure that mimics a bad master cylinder and creates a dangerously low brake pedal. - Why brake fluid service matters (and why many manufacturers now recommend it every 2 years). - Why rear brakes can wear faster on modern cars (hill-hold, stop/start, stability controls, torque vectoring). - A noisy/vibrating driveshaft carrier bearing and how it can create “mystery” vibrations. - How clogged sunroof drains can lead to expensive electrical damage. - A caller question about instrument cluster replacement and mileage programming on an older Silverado. A.M. Edition for April 24. Twin shortages of fertilizer and fuel in the wake of the Iran war are spooking consumers across Asia and raising fears of weak harvests. But as HSBC's Frederic Neumann tells us, the effects of rising food prices are likely to spread around the world and linger well into 2027. Plus, U.S. authorities charge a U.S. soldier who took part in the operation to capture Nicolás Maduro with using classified information to earn more than $400,000 on Polymarket. And Intel shares surge more than 20 percent in off hours trading, as the chip maker beat earnings estimates. Luke Vargas hosts. Sign up for the WSJ's free What's News newsletter. On In The Market with Janet Parshall this week we Fouad Masri, founder of the Crescent Project, explained why the current Iran war is actually spiritual warfare taking place in physical form right before our eyes. Then we spoke to the creator of the American Worldview Inventory who explained the crisis of the American church when it comes to the failure to train disciples. Jason VanRuler explained the 5 communication types and their impact on the way we share our thoughts and feelings with others. Dr. John Delony addressed the mental health crisis in our nation and how understanding and owning our past can transform our future. The supernatural world is only a hair’s breadth away from our physical one, but we often don’t take it into account in our daily living. Dr. Karl Payne was back to remind us of that unseen world by answering your questions on spiritual warfare. Janet and Craig invite you to another discussion of news through the lens of scripture.Become a Parshall Partner: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/inthemarket/partnersSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
