Kevin Kritzer -- "Sinking Down Roots: Keep Your Mind On Things Above" -- Col. 3:1-113 Since you were brought back to life with Christ, focus on the things that are above—where Christ holds the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the heavenly throne. 2 Keep your mind on things above, not on worldly things. 3 You have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 Christ is your life. When he appears, then you, too, will appear with him in glory. 5 Therefore, put to death whatever is worldly in you: your sexual sin, perversion, passion, lust, and greed (which is the same thing as worshiping wealth). 6 It is because of these sins that God's anger comes on those who refuse to obey him.[a] 7 You used to live that kind of sinful life. 8 Also get rid of your anger, hot tempers, hatred, cursing, obscene language, and all similar sins. 9 Don't lie to each other. You've gotten rid of the person you used to be and the life you used to live, 10 and you've become a new person. This new person is continually renewed in knowledge to be like its Creator. 11 Where this happens, there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, uncivilized person, slave, or free person. Instead, Christ is everything and in everything. --GWhttp://www.bethanylutheran.orghttp://www.facebook.com/Bethany.Long.Beachwww.youtube.com/c/BethanyLutheranLongBeach

Most business owners don't realize it, but constantly saying “yes” isn't a strength — it's a leadership weakness. What feels like being a good, approachable leader is often the exact reason you're stuck in operations, overwhelmed, and unable to grow. In this episode, we break down why saying yes too much traps business owners in burnout, disempowers their teams, and keeps their companies dependent on them. We'll show you how learning to say no, installing the right systems, and leveraging AI tools frees you up to lead at the highest level — without sacrificing your business, your family, or your health. Key Takeaways: Why saying yes all the time is a symptom of weak leadership, not strength The hidden cost of “nice leadership” on your business, your team, and your personal life How saying no creates clarity, structure, and stronger team ownership How to retrain a team that's used to depending on the owner for every decision How AI tools now make it easier than ever to install systems that support real leadership — without months of setup Ready to build a business that scales without depending on you? Retirement planning isn't just about investments and Social Security; it's also about how you budget and prepare for the expenses you know are coming. In this episode, I break down two essential but often misunderstood tools: sinking funds and target date funds. First, I explore how sinking funds, popularized by the likes of Dave Ramsey, can help retirees avoid high-interest debt and budget for large, irregular expenses like vacations, home improvements, or even a future wedding. I share personal examples and stories from my clients to show how setting aside money intentionally can be a game-changer, especially in retirement. Then I shift gears to target date funds. They're in nearly every 401(k), but are they really the best option for you? I will explain what's “under the hood” of these cookie-cutter investment options, their pros and cons, and why one-size-fits-all may not fit your goals or risk tolerance. I challenge you to go beyond age-based investing and build a portfolio that reflects your unique vision for retirement. Whether you're still saving or already retired, this episode offers clear insights to help you plan smarter and spend more intentionally. Be strengthened by the faith that you were taught, and overflow with thanksgiving. 8 Be careful not to let anyone rob you ⌞of this faith⌟ through a shallow and misleading philosophy. Such a person follows human traditions and the world's way of doing things rather than following Christ. 9 All of God lives in Christ's body, 10 and God has made you complete in Christ. Christ is in charge of every ruler and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised. It was not a circumcision performed by human hands. But it was a removal of the corrupt nature in the circumcision performed by Christ. 12 This happened when you were placed in the tomb with Christ through baptism. In baptism you were also brought back to life with Christ through faith in the power of God,[a] who brought him back to life. 13 You were once dead because of your failures and your uncircumcised corrupt nature. But God made you alive with Christ when he forgave all our failures. 14 He did this by erasing the charges that were brought against us by the written laws God had established. He took the charges away by nailing them to the cross. 15 He stripped the rulers and authorities ⌞of their power⌟ and made a public spectacle of them as he celebrated his victory in Christ.http://www.bethanylutheran.orghttp://www.facebook.com/Bethany.Long.Beachwww.youtube.com/c/BethanyLutheranLongBeach

Dozens of coastal cities — from Jakarta to Manila — are sinking at a worrying speed. Climate change, too much water being pumped out of the ground for drinking and the type of land cities are built on all contribute to the problem. But people around the world are coming up with innovative ways to tackle this.Aghnia Adzkia, a BBC journalist based in Jakarta, shares why Indonesia's capital is particularly vulnerable, and how people there are trying to protect themselves. BBC climate correspondent Georgina Rannard explains the link between climate change and rising sea levels. And we hear from people helping their local communities to adapt, such as architect Kunlé Adeyemi, who designed a floating school in Lagos. The evil things you did showed your hostile attitude. 22 But now Christ has brought you back to God by dying in his physical body. He did this so that you could come into God's presence without sin, fault, or blame. 23 This is on the condition that you continue in faith without being moved from the solid foundation of the hope that the Good News contains. You've heard this Good News of which I, Paul, became a servant. It has been spread throughout all creation under heaven. 24 I am happy to suffer for you now. In my body I am completing whatever remains of Christ's sufferings. I am doing this on behalf of his body, the church. 25 I became a servant of the church when God gave me the work of telling you his entire message. 26 In the past God hid this mystery, but now he has revealed it to his people. 27 God wanted his people throughout the world to know the glorious riches of this mystery—which is Christ living in you, giving you the hope of glory. 28 We spread the message about Christ as we instruct and teach everyone with all the wisdom there is. On May 19, 1884, a small yacht containing four men set sail from England to Australia. On July 5th, the ship was hit by a massive wave and capsized. The crew escaped the shipwreck on a lifeboat, but was left in a horrible situation. They were hundreds of miles from land, with no fresh water, and a single pound of turnips for food. Three weeks later, on July 25, food was out, and the men were still adrift, and the sailors made the decision to kill and eat one of their own. In this episode of the Anglotopia Podcast, host Jonathan Thomas interviews Simon Mills, a deep-sea explorer and maritime historian who owns the wreck of the HMHS Britannic, Titanic's lesser-known sister ship. They discuss the history of the Britannic, its sinking during World War I, and the unique aspects of its design that aimed to make it more unsinkable than the Titanic. Simon shares his journey from working in the film industry to becoming a maritime historian, his experiences diving to the wreck, and the challenges posed by COVID-19 on his research. The conversation also touches on the ownership of shipwrecks, the importance of preserving maritime history, and the ongoing exploration of the Britannic wreck. Links Inside the Britannic: Uncovering the wreck of the Titanic's sister ship HMHS Britannic - Wikipedia The Wreck of the Britannic - Titanic Connections PBS Online - Lost Liners - Britannic Takeaways The Britannic was designed to be more unsinkable than the Titanic. Simon Mills transitioned from film technician to maritime historian. The Britannic sank in 55 minutes, unlike the Titanic. Ownership of shipwrecks involves legal complexities. COVID-19 significantly delayed research on the Britannic. Watertight doors on the Britannic were found open during dives. The Greek government has strict laws regarding underwater archaeology. Artifacts from the Britannic are now being retrieved for display. Every shipwreck has a unique story to tell. The Britannic project aims to educate and preserve maritime history. Sound Bites 1. The Ownership Revelation "It's actually not as complicated as you think. Everything in the world has got an owner. Doesn't matter where it is. It could be top of the mountain or down at the bottom of the sea... So they will take the money, a very small amount of money in the overall scheme of things. But that's exactly how you do it." 2. The Forgotten Sister Ship "I always get little bit frustrated with this mostly forgotten or forgotten sister or whatever. Titanic has a big place in history, obviously, because of what happened... Britannic was really supposed to be the answer to all the things that went wrong on the Titanic." 3. The Fatal Flaw Discovery "The key sixth compartment when we saw that watertight door open on down on F deck, it was opened by about that much, about six or seven inches... you could argue that the Titanic was less well protected from the flooding than the Titanic." 4. The Timing That Saved Lives "Britannic was on her way out and therefore she was empty. So on board you had little over a thousand crew and medical staff, but there were no patients on board... had it happened on the way back and you had a full ship, a ship full of patients, the death toll could have been humongous." 5. The Unique Access "The only person who's got permit to go inside is me, basically. And that's because of my rather unique legal position... But it still doesn't mean that I go in just because I want to. I have to have a sort of proper plan to go in there." 6. The Human Element "He said, for the first time ever, I felt the presence of people... swimming along that working passage, I sensed people being there. It was a rather curious thing for him to say, but I knew exactly where he was coming from." 7. The Rewriting of History "We are now filling in the other gaps in the story... all of a sudden your flooding analysis is changing completely... it rewrites the dynamic of the sinking. So yes, we're changing the history." 8. The Unexpected Career Path "I never really set out to buy the Britannic or get too heavily involved in the story... I was doing all the research on the Titanic, but unlike the other programs, I also found myself researching the other two ships. So I somehow became the expert on the Olympic and the Britannic." 9. The Technical Challenge "It's 400 feet down. So in terms of a man dive down there, I can't do it... for about a 35 minute dive on the wreck, you're probably decompressing for about three and a half to four hours in the water... Now I'm too old for that." 10. The Legacy Vision "I want to hand over going concern... we turn Britannic into something tangible, rather than some forgotten pile of steel three miles out into the Kier Channel." Across the U.S. and around the world, major cities are slowly sinking. This phenomenon—called land subsidence—is driven by groundwater overuse, rapid urban development and is intensified by climate change. In this segment, experts Tom Parsons and Pietro Teatini break down what's causing the ground to drop, why it's happening faster in some places than others, and what can be done to slow or manage the damage before it's too late. Before the Spanish Armada threatened England in 1588, an even more dangerous invasion loomed, just across the Channel in France. The Battle of the Solent—470 years ago in July 1545—is chiefly known for the sinking of Henry VIII's beloved warship Mary Rose.
