Te Pāti Māori is in free fall. That is the only honest way to describe what has happened inside the party this week. The sackings of two MPs look unconstitutional, the process looks stitched up, and dozens of people who should have voted never even had the chance. Members have contacted us directly and their message is clear: the party has been swallowed by one man's network. Today Duncan breaks down the tangled web around John Tamihere, the family links, the work connections, and the extraordinary level of influence running through almost every layer of the party. When the president's relatives, employees and loyalists sit across key seats and national council positions, how democratic is the process really? We look at why this matters, why the expulsions may not stand up to scrutiny, and why some inside the movement are now calling for JT to step aside before the whole project collapses. Plus, we hear from listeners frustrated by the state of frontline services, from hospitals to basic safety. This is a moment of reckoning for Te Pāti Māori. The question now is whether the party survives the storm. Find every episode and discover your next favourite podcast on the rova app or rova.nz Learn more about your ad choices. It's World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) and we have prepared a special episode in light of that. In this week's Communicable, Navaneeth Narayanan and Thomas Tängdén host Aula Abbara (London, UK), Guido Granata (Rome, Italy) and Tuomas Aro (Helsinki, Finland) to discuss the phenomenon of AMR in conflict and crisis zones. They elaborate on how difficult conditions and austere environments amplify the spread of AMR, drawing on findings from the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, Syria and other regions. Other topics covered include adapting antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control (IPC) practices as well as the need for genuine political will and international collaboration to end conflicts and their exacerbation on AMR.This episode follows the webinar “Beyond the frontlines” organised by ESCMID's AMR Action Subcommittee for WAAW 2025, featuring the same guests, and is available on ESCMID Media. This Communicable episode was peer reviewed by Arjana Zerja of Mother Theresa University Hospital Centre, Tirana, Albania. In honour of ADHD Awareness Month, we're excited to share a special short episode on Adult ADHD, presented by Dr. Smita Verma. The concept of normality is pivotal in diagnosing adult ADHD, as common behaviours like distractibility or impulsivity, universal to human experience, only warrant a diagnosis when they cause significant functional impairment in specific contexts. A global shortage of ADHD stimulants reflects rising demand, with social media platforms like TikTok being one of the contributing factors. On TikTok, #adhdtest videos often oversimplify ADHD, as evident during my research on the quality of information on #adhdtest, presenting normal behaviours like forgetfulness as diagnostic, while trends like “SLAY-DHD” glamorise the condition, encouraging self-diagnosis. Diagnosing adult ADHD is complex due to subjective symptom assessment, necessitating careful differentiation between normal responses to modern life's demands and pathological symptoms. Clinicians must consider cultural, personal, and environmental contexts, using collateral input to validate childhood impairments and rule out conditions like anxiety or burnout, ensuring accurate diagnosis and judicious stimulant use, given their uncertain long-term safety. Dr Smita Verma, MBBS is a psychiatry registrar at Waikato Hospital's Mental Health & Addiction Services in Hamilton, New Zealand, currently pursuing a Certificate in Adult Psychiatry through the RANZCP training program. The threat of a 9.0-magnitude earthquake along the Cascadia Subduction Zone has hung over the Pacific Northwest for decades. Seismologists and emergency managers say “The Big One” could be one of the worst natural disasters in the region’s history, but it may not be the worst-case scenario. New research from Oregon State University suggests the Cascadia Subduction Zone may be linked to the San Andreas Fault in California, with seismic activity on one triggering corresponding activity on the other. Chris Goldfinger is a professor emeritus at OSU and the study’s lead author. He joins us with more details on what the findings could mean for our region.

British metal outfit Conjurer have continued to defy expectations since the release of their debut album, Mire, in 2018. Essentially an experimental metal band, Conjurer has drawn on elements of sludge, death, doom and post metal, never once allowing themselves to be defined by any one sound or genre. While award nominations and accolades accumulated with each piece of new music, Conjurer retained their one simple mission: to make heavy music and have fun while doing so. Preferring to use their spotlight to showcase technicality and musicality rather than concentrating on politics or opinions, Conjurer have always lived in the moment and embraced everything that came their way.Their upcoming third album Unself (October 24, Nuclear Blast Records) sees Conjurer once more expanding their sonic palate, but this time the whole album is grounded by a common theme or thread that sees the band producing their most personal album to date. Unself is a more intense, more personal voyage of discovery unfurling for vocalist/guitarist Dani Nightingale, who was diagnosed with autism at age 31. With that prognosis, Conjurer's long-held view of self and perception of their place in the world began to unravel. Unself documents much of the piecing back together around the diagnosis, alongside the realisation that they were non-binary.With the release date looming large, HEAVY took the time to chat with guitarist/vocalist Brady Deeprose to dive deeper. We start by asking if the band are feeling confident about the reaction for the new album."I think it's funny because with all of our previous releases, we've not really cared about the reception," he smiled. "It has been a very specific point that we make this music for the four of us. We put it out there, and if people like it, that is wonderful. And if they don't, then that's also fine. We can't control that. However, on this album, I feel like we've put so much more of ourselves into it than ever before. It feels so much more personal and so much more emotionally vulnerable, that while, yes, if people don't like it, that's not something I can control, but I do really hope that people connect with it in the way that I have. I love this album, it really means a lot to me, and I hope that it kind of scratches that itch for at least some of the people that listen to it."In the full interview, Brady talks more about Unself, highlighting its departure from previous works and a focus on emotional vulnerability and personal investment. He described the recording process as collaborative and low-pressure, contrasting it with the challenges faced during their last album, Pathos. Brady explained how the band aims for a more organic sound on Unself, with tracks that defy traditional genre boundaries, reflecting their artistic evolution. We spoke about the opening tune, Unself, and why it was chosen as first cab off the rank, as well as the closing track, The World Is Not My Home, which is an adaptation of a century-old gospel song, and the thought process behind both. Last year's Australian tour was brought up, along with whispers about a return visit next year and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

At BNIC#2 in Hermanus, Ranmore Fund Management's Sean Peche delivered a sobering warning on global markets, arguing that the US is in "injury time" as passive funds distort valuations and private equity exits stall. He cautioned that while AI is real, history shows revolutionary technologies rarely translate into long-term shareholder wins. Peche pointed to Bitcoin hype, stretched US mega-cap valuations, and the dangers of performance fees, while outlining Ranmore's disciplined approach: focus on value, diversify globally, reduce client fees as the fund scales, and stay humble. Send us a text! We'd love to hear your thoughts on the show. What if the truest way to write your story is to follow feeling instead of chronology? In this episode of The Resilient Writers Radio Show, I'm joined by award-winning Iranian-Canadian author Hollay Ghadery, whose work fearlessly crosses genres: memoir, poetry, flash fiction, and even a novel narrated by a sock puppet.Hollay's debut memoir Fuse won the 2023 Canadian Book Club Award for Nonfiction/Memoir, and it's unlike anything you've ever read. Rather than laying out her life in neat order, she trusted her own non-linear way of experiencing memory. For Hollay, moments bleed into each other like inkblots on a page, and she honored that in her book. The result? A layered, fragmented form that feels truer than any straight-line telling could. She also shares how writing changed when she got sober. For years she produced work while living in addiction, but it wasn't until sobriety that she found the discipline to sit, revise, and shape her words with clarity. Her message is refreshingly down-to-earth: writing isn't about waiting for a magical state to arrive—it's about showing up and doing the work, imperfectly but consistently.Since then, Hollay has released the poetry collection Rebellion Box and the flash-fiction collection Widow Fantasies. And coming in 2026, her debut novel The Unravelling of Ou—a playful, fierce, and absurd meditation on patriarchy, joy, and queer identity, told entirely through the voice of a sock puppet named Ecology Paul. As Hollay explains, the puppet narrator was no gimmick: it's the most honest way she knows to tell this story, bypassing shame and revealing truths we might otherwise hide. Our conversation also explores the realities of publishing. Hollay loves small presses, where collaboration feels intimate and books are treated as art objects. She talks about the highs and lows of awards season, and why it's essential to celebrate every win—whether it's a longlist mention or a kind note from a reader. One of her favorite lessons? “It means something to win, but it doesn't mean anything not to win.”Hollay practices what she calls “sympathetic joy”: celebrating other writers' successes without letting envy creep in. She reminds us that another person's achievement doesn't take anything away from our own path. If you stay in your lane, there's no traffic. If you need a reminder that your quirks, your feelings, and even your sock puppets belong on the page, this episode is for you. Hollay's wisdom is equal parts candid, funny, and deeply encouraging.

In US history, deficits this high have only occurred for 5-straight years one time, during World War II. The US debt crisis is set to get even worse. Worst Revision In History: BLS Admits A Record 911K Fewer Jobs Were Added Two weeks ago, before both Bloomberg and Reuters, we told our subscribers to "brace for another huge negative payrolls revision"... BLS reported that as part of its preliminary annual benchmark revisions, a record 911K payrolls for the period April 2024-March 2025 would be revised away last year's stunning 818K negative revision, which was the second biggest since the global financial crisis (and which we also warned ahead of time was coming), virtually nobody expected this year's number to be higher. It was not only higher, but it was the biggest negative revision on record! fake jobs numbers that were "created" by the Biden admin, and saddled Trump with relentless negative revisions. Expect 1-2 more months of painful job prints, and then another powerful rally higher into the 2026 midterms under a new BLS commissioner as all of Biden's fake baggage is expunged. Trump was absolutely correct to fire the BLS commissioner one month ago: one year of major negative revisions is happenstance; twice is coincidence; three times is enemy action... and in her case, it was just unexcusable incompetence as the most important economic data point the market uses was dead wrong. There was virtually no domestic job creation in the last year of the Biden admin when one excludes the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens who entered the work force. The Fed should have started cutting rates in February, and would have started cutting rates in February if it knew the true sad state of the US labor market. Just as remarkable: 2 million jobs from the last 3 years of the Biden admin have now been revised away. #369 In this episode, Guy spoke with physicist and spiritualist David Clements about the profound energy transformations occurring within and around us. David shared his journey from struggling with mathematics as a child to becoming an expert in theoretical physics and energetics. He discussed the impact of meditation and collective consciousness on the transformation of matter and human bodies, highlighting how high energetics emitted by people worldwide are shaping our environment. David also delved into his experiences with remote viewing, the importance of connecting with the higher self, and the role of advanced beings in assisting humanity's current transitions. The episode underscores the significance of inner work, healing, and awareness in achieving profound personal and collective transformations. About David: In my early days, I began as an artist, spending most of my time dreaming and imagining beyond the reality I was living in. Which later, after a door inside me opened, allowed me to develop a deep intuitive insight into the conscious quantum nature of reality. But before this fully opened, I was propelled into, and became, a professional theoretical physicist, working in string theory (a theory of subatomic particles and multi-dimensional spaces) as well as advanced theories of electromagnetism in some of the world's leading and prestigious academic institutions such as Cambridge and Oxford Universities. I left this profession because the opening within had revealed to me a very different view of the living conscious nature of quantum reality, a far distance from the mathematical and structured world I had learnt to work in.My conscious awakening, and connection with the higher aspects of myself began just after the year 2000, when I learned to view remotely. From here, my intuition and energetic senses came alive in ways I never before imagined possible. From here, I began a deep journey, moving into, and becoming more heart centered. Unravelling the many layers of past and current life aspects within myself to gain more connection to the Creative Source field consciousnes of love and my whole Self. In doing so, I was given deeper insights into the workings of realities, as well as inspirations for innovations and ideas, that it is my heart felt joy to share with others. In this episode of SpaceTime, we dive into the depths of cosmic mysteries and groundbreaking discoveries, including the enigmatic Long Period Transient and the stellar companion of Betelgeuse, alongside exciting findings from Mars.Unraveling the Long Period TransientAstronomers have uncovered a new cosmic phenomenon, ASCAP J1832-0911, which emits both radio and X-ray pulses every 44 minutes for just two minutes at a time. This first-ever detection of a Long Period Transient has left scientists puzzled about its nature and origins. Lead author Dr Andy Wang from Curtin University discusses the potential theories, including the possibility of a magnetar or a binary star system, while emphasizing the need for further observations to unravel this cosmic mystery.Betelgeuse's Stellar CompanionIn a remarkable discovery, astronomers have identified a stellar companion orbiting the red supergiant Betelgeuse. This pre-main sequence star, approximately one and a half times the mass of the Sun, resides within Betelgeuse's outer atmosphere. As Betelgeuse approaches the end of its life, this companion is also on a collision course with destiny, likely spiraling into Betelgeuse within the next 10,000 years. This finding could shed light on the periodic brightness changes observed in similar red supergiant stars.Mars Perseverance Rover's New DiscoveriesNASA's Perseverance Rover continues its exploration of Jezero Crater, uncovering unusual rock formations that may reveal significant geological history. With extensive experience and a passion for holistic health, Dr. Woolner has been instrumental in advocating for the integration of functional medicine principles into mainstream healthcare. His work focuses on addressing the root causes of health issues and empowering individuals and practitioners to achieve optimal health outcomes through lifestyle modifications and evidence-based practices. Dr. Andrew Wells is a leading voice in the healthcare community, known for his insights into the shortcomings of the conventional medical system. With a deep understanding of healthcare practices and patient needs, Dr. Wells contributes significantly to the discourse on improving health outcomes through innovative approaches in functional medicine. He brings a critical perspective to the challenges facing healthcare today, emphasizing a root-cause, patient-centered approach to wellness. Episode Summary: In this eye-opening episode of the Simplified Functional Medicine podcast, Dr. Chad Woolner and Dr. Andrew Wells break down a groundbreaking report released by the White House, known as the Maha Report. The report, which mirrors the ethos of functional medicine, boldly critiques major sectors like Big Food, Big Pharma, and the healthcare system for today's public health crises. It highlights an alarming statistic that today's children are the sickest generation in American history, a statement that underscores the urgent need for a new healthcare paradigm. As Dr. Woolner points out, the report's insights align closely with principles that functional medicine practitioners have championed for years, bringing validation to this discipline at the highest levels of government. Throughout the episode, Dr. Woolner and Dr. Wells delve into the four key root causes identified in the Maha Report: ultra-processed foods, environmental toxins, sedentary screen-based lifestyles, and over-medication. These elements have dramatically contributed to deteriorating health metrics in the U.S., particularly among children. With 70% of a child's caloric intake coming from ultra-processed foods and a significant rise in various health issues, the episode makes a compelling case for functional medicine as a solution. Dr. Wells emphasizes the potential for functional medicine to fill the void left by conventional practices, citing a 940% increase in functional medicine practices as evidence of growing demand. This episode calls on practitioners to step into this vacuum and lead their communities toward better health outcomes. Key Takeaways: Maha Report's Findings: The report exposes how systemic issues like Big Food and Big Pharma contribute to the deteriorating health of American children, echoing truths long held by functional medicine practitioners. Identifying Root Causes: The report highlights four major contributors to poor health—processed foods, environmental toxins, sedentary lifestyles, and over-medication—urging a comprehensive reevaluation of healthcare strategies. Role of Functional Medicine: Dr. Woolner and Dr. Wells advocate for functional medicine's root-cause approach as a practical solution to contemporary health challenges, underlining the importance of lifestyle modification. The Practitioner Opportunity: With heightened awareness generated by the Maha Report, practitioners are encouraged to take leadership in community health, utilizing functional medicine frameworks to drive positive change. Growing Demand for Change: As traditional healthcare models fail to address these growing concerns, the unprecedented rise in functional medicine practices signifies a patient-driven demand for more effective health interventions. Notable Quotes: "This isn't a conspiracy theory. It is the official report that almost no one is talking about." – Dr. Chad Woolner "Americans are the sickest people in the world by far. We have the most chronic disease in almost every single category." – Dr. Andrew Wells "This report is a massive validation of the root cause model." – Dr. Chad Woolner "If you're struggling with your own health issues and you're looking for answers, we invite you to be part of the solution." – Dr. Andrew Wells "Functional medicine can lead the way, but it's much more than just supplements; it's about true long-term change." – Dr. Chad Woolner Resources: Dr. Chad Woolner's Website: Chad Woolner The Maha Report (Referenced Document) Simplified Functional Medicine Podcast Listeners are encouraged to catch the full episode for a more in-depth analysis and to discover strategies for implementing functional medicine approaches in their communities.
