Our penultimate live action Disney month movie is here as we take a closer look at the Jon Favreau penned "re-imagining" of the classic that is The Jungle Book from 2016. Is this finally a movie that we are enjoying? Does Mallory actually remember anything about this film from the past? Just where is this magical jungle meant to be? Do we appreciate the acting ability of Neel Sethi? Can we remember any of the character names in this film? Is Ben Kingsley's greatest ever role playing the villain in Thunderbirds? Does the voice acting work better than it did a week ago in Beauty and the Beast? Do we finally have a villain that is actually villainous? Are the special effects slightly overrated? Does the use of the songs work this time around? How amazing is Christopher Walken? Does Mallory know who Bill Murray is? And what is the deal with Disney always having to kill off villains by making them fall from a great height? It's all wrapped up in a tight little bow as we bring you all of the bare necessities in one podcast!★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
Next in our Sofia Coppola season is another of Rob's all-time-favourite films: 2003's LOST IN TRANSLATION. Participantes: Marcelo Moura, Ck, Jack e Marcos Boy. We review Jon Favreau's new adaptation of THE JUNGLE BOOK based on Rudyard Kipling's eponymous collective works and inspired by Walt Disney's 1967 animated film of the same name. The film stars Bill Murray, Sir Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson and newcomer Neel Sethi as Mowgli. It rated 8.5 on our Justice & Doom Movie Meter. Find out why, take a listen!
Neel Sethi stars as young Mowgli, raised in the jungles of (presumably) India by a pack of wolves after his father is slain by the power-hungry tiger Shere Khan, who does not like humans one bit, fearing that the older Mowgli gets, the more he will threaten their way of life. Sensing the danger from the lurking tiger, Mowgli's savior and mentor, a panther named Bagheera, decides that the young "man-cub" is in mortal danger, striving to escort the tyke to the place where he'll be most protected: a village of human beings in relatively close vicinity. However, the road to civilization proves to be just as treacherous, especially when Bagheera loses track of the man-cub's whereabouts, leaving him susceptible to giant bears, hypnotizing pythons, stinging bees, and disturbingly ambitious apes.
The REKT crew start off by paying respects to Prince who passed away that day and getting all the tangential nonsense out of the way before delving into reviewing Hardcore Henry (which only 1.75% of the crew has actually watched.) Chris offers his opinions, Erik having watched only half of the movie offers half his opinions, Paul, having watched only the first 10 minutes offers his 10 cents, and Shark who is absent altogether has no opinion to offer. The crew then goes on to talk about the semi-live action remake of Jon Favreau's "The Jungle Book". A gorgeous movie by all accounts, fun to watch in 3-D, works overall with a few drawbacks being songs that don't feel like they fit (and sung badly by actors who are not singers), a lot of the voice-overs being done by very well known actors (like Bill Murray) making it difficult to not picture said actor in a sound booth and thus taking the viewer somewhat out of the experience, and finally a fairly stiff performance by child actor Neel Sethi as Mowgli (though perfectly understandable being so young and the only live actor surrounded by green screens.)
The first of two live action (CGI-assisted) adaptations of The Jungle Book due out this year, this version is from Disney and features Neel Sethi in the lead, with vocal assistance from Idris Elba, Bill Murray and Ben Kingsley. A thoughtful adaptation featuring excellent visuals and great acting, it’s another great family film from the house of mouse.
