A quick, mixed bag, and it's coming at you on a Thursday for a change, in our latest episode of Breakfast All Day. We begin with a tribute to Gene Hackman, the legendary actor who was discovered dead in his Santa Fe, N.M., home this week. The two-time Oscar winner was 95 years old. His wife and one of his dogs had died, as well, and authorities are investigating. But we wanted to remember his long and varied career, and we'll honor Hackman further with our March Off the Menu poll, so keep an eye out for that. Also, we catch up with "Grand Theft Hamlet," a totally original documentary about a couple of actors who staged a production of "Hamlet" entirely within the video game Grand Theft Auto Online. It's hilarious but also surprisingly poignant. Streaming now on Mubi. We're posting a day early because we're taking part in the Feb. 28 Economic Blackout. In today's Daily Fix: BioWare's Dragon Age: The Veilguard has had a successful launch so far, with praise from critics and fans, and a solid debut on Steam's top games list based on concurrents. Compared to Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, Dragon Age is EA's best-performing solo-focused triple-A title on Steam, with more than 70,000 concurrent players (Jedi Survivor topped out at just under 68,000). In other news, Grand Theft Auto Online for PC is getting a big update next year. This will put that version in line with what's offered in the current-gen consoles. The Australian playwright Ray Lawler has died at the age of 103. Lawler wrote Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, which spurred a growing movement of artists telling Australian stories in Australian voices on the mainstage. To pay tribute to Ray Lawler, we're joined by theatre legends Robyn Nevin and Neil Armfield and we hear interviews with Ray from the ABC archives.Also, the musical Wicked will soon celebrate one year on stage in Australia. Ahead of their transfer to Brisbane, Sheridan Adams (Elphaba) and Courtney Monsma (Glinda) perform for us. And we meet two British actors who staged Hamlet in the ultra-violent and unpredictable video game world of Grand Theft Auto. A documentary about their efforts, Grand Theft Hamlet, is screening at this year's MIFF.

In today's Daily Fix:Rockstar will be disabling some features from Grand Theft Auto Online from the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Those last-gen consoles are more than a decade old now, and in order to keep feature updates coming to those platforms, some other features need to go, namely the Rockstar Editor. In other news, Microsoft is prepared to be a "good publisher" on Sony and Nintendo consoles, now that their blockbuster deal with Activision Blizzard has gone through. So can we expect first-party Xbox titles on the PS5 or Switch? Time will tell. And finally, Call of Duty has been dethroned as the de facto best-selling game of the year, according to Circana. WB Games' Hogwarts Legacy is the best-selling title of 2023, beating out other games like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur's Gate 3.

Meet Jubby. He fell in love with Grand Theft Auto Online for way more than just "cops and robbers" shenanigans. There's a huge roleplay scene across countless private servers, some of which have become very inclusive LGBTQ+ communities. On "No Pixel" where Jubby spends most of his day playing and streaming, he took up the mantle of organizing in-world Gay Pride events, fashion shows, and music festivals. These days, he's a Twitch partner who credits these virtual communities with empowering him to come out of the closet IRL. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, A Take-Two earnings report reveals the publisher plans for at least eight more remasters or ports - plus some details about games coming in 2023 and beyond. Take-Two, who owns 2K Games, Rockstar, and Firaxis, among others, announced that between now and 2025, plans to release 24 immersive core games. GTA 5 will look to finally get a mobile port while remasters or ports of previous games are on the horizon. Today's 505 Games Spring 2022 Showcased Among the Trolls, Stray Blade, Miasma Chronicles, and Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. Among the Trolls is a supernatural first-person survival game set among Finland's deep forests. Stray Blade is a soul that pairs an anthropologist with a spellcasting wolf gremlin. The showcase's final game was a teaser for Miasma Chronicles, a brief trailer featuring a boy, his robot, and what seems like an extra-dimensional force. The Red Dead Online community has been begging developer Rockstar for more significant updates to the game on par with what Grand Theft Auto Online has been getting, using the hashtag #SaveRedDeadOnline.

On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Rockstar has announced GTA+, a new subscription service for Grand Theft Auto Online. It will only be available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game, and will launch on March 29th. Members of the new subscriptions service for GTA 5 online game will receive 500,000 GTA dollars, tons of exclusive GTA Online access, Cash/RP bonuses, and a lot more. GTA V Online players who wish to join, will have to sign up via PS Store or Microsoft Store and pay the monthly Grand Theft Auto Online subscription. Polyphony Digital has apologized for Gran Turismo 7 rocky launch by offering players free credits and a 'considerable' fix coming next month. GT7 devs are offering 1 million credits to players with another one million next month. Gran Turismo devs faced backlash for a disastrous launch with Gran Turismo 7 reducing in-game rewards, being unavailable for 24 hours, and pushing players to pay up to $40 for a single car. Gran Turismo 7 devs are looking to amends with fans with numerous fixes coming later next month. The developer of the much-loved Bloodborne PlayStation 1 demake has announced their latest project: Bloodborne Kart. Bloodborne fans have been hoping for a Bloodborne pc racing game but with no release date yet, the Bloodborne demake will have to do. The Bloodborn Demake is available for free on Itch.io. If you're not a Pokémon fan, the biggest release this week is Beyond: Two Souls, the latest beautiful, divisive, interactive game-like thing from developer Quantic Dream and its cackling French overlord, David Cage. In honor of its arrival (and to balance out all the swipes we've taken at Heavy Rain over the years), we lavish a little praise on our favorite moments in David Cage's creations, shed a tear over Tom Clancy's passing, and talk about some of the things you wanted to do in Grand Theft Auto Online before the servers were working properly.
