Dave Bautista on His Co-Star Sir Ben Kingsley in “The Killer's Game”
Are we gonna get lucky and discover that this film has always been an underrated gem? Or are we gonna get Slevin, whatever the heck that means. Josh Hartnett. Lucy Liu. Bruce Willis. Morgan Freeman. Sir Ben Kingsley. Stanley Tucci. A lot of other good actors. Can they make this wannabe Tarantino thing any good? Whatever our reasons for tuning in or out this Super Bowl Sunday, as movie fans, there's no denying the impact the event has in terms of trailers and TV spots, with Paramount, Universal, and Disney all investing a record $7 million per 30-second Super Bowl spot. Paramount has three spots booked, featuring "Bob Marley: One Love," John Krasinski's "IF," and "A Quiet Place: Day One." Disney is expected to promote its Father's Day release "Inside Out 2" and the trailer for Marvel Studios' sole 2024 release "Deadpool 3,". Universal may feature spots for various films, including "Twisters," "Kung Fu Panda 4," "Monkeyman," and "The Fall Guy." Sony and Warner Bros are notably absent from Super Bowl spots this year, and there's no confirmation from Apple or Netflix about promoting their major projects during the event either. Despite rumors of its cancellation, Marvel Studios' Wonder Man series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is apparently back on track and actively in production according to leaked set photos and footage circulating the web. Production of the series, led by Shang Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton and producer Andrew Guest, began in April but was paused due to last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The images in question tease an in-universe film franchise depicting a marquee with the Wonder Man title card along with the character's logo and emblem. While we are lacking on official details, including a release date, the latest we've heard is that the series will fall under the new Marvel Spotlight banner and Sir Ben Kingsley is expected to reprise his role as Trevor Slattery. Unfortunately we learned today that a crew member who was a rigger has sadly died on set after falling from the rafters. The on-set accident did not occur during filming and we certainly share the condolences of the cast and crew. Although it debuted at the top of the box office, Matthew Vaughn's $200 million would be February blockbuster, Argylle, has not performed well, with an $18 million domestic and $35 million global start, coupled with a C+ CinemaScore. The star-studded ensemble cast failed to attract audiences as predicted by tracking. Despite Apple's substantial financial prowess, these big-budget films, such as Napoleon and Killers of the Flower Moon, are not proving profitable when considering the overall motion picture profit and loss sheet, lacking ancillaries like foreign TV, theme park tie-ins, or cruise ship exploitation, prompting questions about the streamers long-term viability. During the documentary "Grounded 2: Making The Last of Us Part 2," creative director Neil Druckmann hinted at the possibility of The Last of Us Part 3, revealing that he has a conceptual idea for another chapter in the story. Druckmann emphasized that while the first two games had clear concepts of parental love and the pursuit of justice, the potential third installment would be its own unique narrative. He clarified that a previously mentioned story about Joel's brother, Tommy, was not outlined for The Last of Us Part 3, but rather a separate project that was shelved temporarily due to other priorities at Naughty Dog. Elsewhere in the Last of Us franchise, Schitt's Creek star Catherine O'Hara has been cast in an undisclosed role for the HBO show's second season. 2024 Grammy Winners: o Best pop solo performance: Miley Cyrus, "Flowers" o Best música urbana album: Karol G, "Mañana Será Bonito" o Best country album: Lainey Wilson, "Bell Bottom Country" o Best R&B song: SZA, "Snooze" o Best pop vocal album: Taylor Swift, "Midnights" o Song of the year: "What Was I Made For?" Hope you Dads are strapped in for the ride!First up, it's pig time! Now, who doesn't love a good pig? They're cute, often quite smart, and they've given us some of the best characters in books and movies. Babe, for instance – the little piggy who thought he was a sheepdog. An absolute classic. And then there's Pumbaa from "The Lion King" – a warthog sure, but in the pig family and with a heart of gold! How about Wilbur from "Charlotte's Web"? The epitome of friendship goals. Oh, and let's not forget Porky Pig with that iconic "Th-th-th-that's all, folks!" And last but not least, Miss Piggy – fierce, fabulous, and absolutely unforgettable. But enough about our hooved friends, let's travel to the realm of the mysterious with our Movie of the Week - "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar". Roald Dahl always knows how to weave a tale that's both intriguing and unexpected. With its blend of reality and magic, it's one of those stories that leaves an imprint on your mind long after the credits roll. Finally, for our more digital-savvy Dads, or those just trying to keep up with what the kids are into these days, we're diving into the world of SSSniperWolf. She's a massive name on YouTube, bringing her humor, gameplay, and reactions to the screen. While it might be a far cry from Saturday morning cartoons or classic family shows, it's a peek into what modern entertainment looks like, and hey, maybe even a chance for some bonding over shared YouTube faves. So, whether you're snuggling up with a beloved pig plushie or trying to crack the code of internet stardom, today's episode is chock-full of fun, intrigue, and maybe a bacon joke or two. Let's get started and dive right in on this episode of Bad Dads Film Review!

In the new biopic, Dalíland, acclaimed director Mary Harron give us a glimpse into the Salvador Dalí's later years in 70s New York City via the immense talents of Academy Award-winner, Sir Ben Kingsley. From her look at attempted assassin Valerie Solanas in I Shot Andy Warhol to the murderous broker Patrick Bateman in American Psycho, Harron has always been attracted to infamous, challenging, and to put it lightly, difficult people. The film is now on demand now wherever you watch movies. On our special summer episode we chat with Harron about Dalíland and much more.
This week on The Treatment, Elvis welcomes Oscar-winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley, whose latest role is as the surrealist painter Salvador Dalí in the film Dalíland. Next, actress and writer-director Zoe Lister-Jones joins to discuss her genre-bending series Slip, now streaming on Roku. And on The Treat, Winning Time writer Rodney Barnes talks about a pair of TV movies (and an adjacent short-lived TV series) which revealed his personal path to Hollywood.
Ten years ago, audiences were treated to what would be THE final stand-alone movie focused on the character of Tony Stark/Iron Man played by Robert Downey Jr.....and for his solo swan song, he helped bring over an old friend to direct, Shane Black. Black had previously directed RDJ in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang eight years prior, a dark action comedy which is among several notable entries in the buddy cop drama written by Black including the original Lethal Weapon. Also returning for this "three-quel" are the previous Iron Man films are Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Jon Favreau.....now facing off a couple of new villains played by Guy Pearce and Sir Ben Kingsley. The story focuses on a dangerous new technology developed by one of Stark's rivals which he must face head-on....often without the help of his Iron Man suit no less. And what results is a superhero epic which is fast, funny, action-packed....and takes place during Christmas, go figure!Host: Geoff Gershon Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
We have an amazing special guest this week as we're joined by Meeg who helped kickstart Bad Dads Film review over three years ago and he picks up exactly where he left off, by not watching this weeks movie. My first car was a burgundy Fiesta with about 800,000 miles on the clock and a sticker of a dog on the rear right hand side window which was impossible to remove no matter how hard I tried which was not very. I don't remember what its number plate was; Peter might suggest a bar code would have been easier for me but then again he's a moron. We discuss the Top 5 Number Plates in movies and television and remember to record it all this time, no minor feat. LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN is one of the worst ever film titles and is also a good barometer of how tastes change because I distinctly remember enjoying the fast paced 2006 crime caper the first time I saw it, with its slick noughties dialogue, non-linear story-telling and dense twisty plot but this time round I found it convoluted, contrived and ridiculously pleased with itself, with a story that scarcely matters, dialogue too affected to be taken seriously and not a lot of interest going on thematically. If you're going to serve up something so self-satisfied and casually offensive you might as well try to create some kind of style that isn't just shamelessly ripping off Tarantino. Aimed at 2 year olds and above, NUMBERBLOCKS is a CBeebies tv series about anthropomorphic blocks of numbers obsessed with the basic mathematical functions, add, subtract, multiply and divide and is approximately 2.71828 times better than PAW PATROL or PJ MASKS or something similar. With little plot to speak of Sidey tired of this before it's 5-minute run time concluded but in fairness he's not precisely the target audience and also he did not vibe as hard as Peter and I did with the song that makes up the bulk of this week's ten themed episode, Ten Again. We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com. Jenn, Josh and Bear are joined once again by guest Dan Schaeffer to talk about Shang-Chi! How does casting factor into a movie like this? What are our favorite action and martial arts movies? And would Trevor have been as captivating if he wasn't played by Sir Ben Kingsley? Tune in to find out!
This week, Phil and David have a funny, emotional and revealing conversation about life, family and show business with Josh Peck, an actor, author, YouTuber and a beautiful old soul who's survived tremendous childhood fame to become a charming young husband and father. Josh opens up about his life growing up with his loving single mother, getting on TV at age 10 with some help from Rosie O'Donnell, achieving fame on Nickelodeon's "Drake & Josh," as well as the good, bad & ugly of being a child actor. Josh discusses working alongside his acting hero Sir Ben Kingsley, rebranding himself as an actor after growing up and dramatically losing weight, and a big moment at the Sundance Film Festival that led to him getting sober. Plus, at Josh's request, Phil and David offer some great advice about fatherhood, lots of Dad jokes and sandwiches from Ike's! During six months of incarceration in Birkenau, Tova witnessed atrocities that she could never forget, and experienced numerous escapes from death. She is one of a handful of Jews to have entered a gas chamber and lived to tell the tale. In her new memoir, The Daughter of Auschwitz, Tova immortalizes what she saw, to keep the story of the Holocaust alive at a time when it's in danger of fading from memory. Written with award-winning former war reporter Malcolm Brabant, this is an extremely important book. Brabant's meticulous research has helped Tova recall her experiences in searing detail. The boys celebrate their 250th issue by Clarke havin' sumthin'. They dive into the first 3 eps of She-Hulk, eps 4-5 of X-Men: DAT ASS, and last week's and this week's issues. Plus, why does Brent hate Sir Ben Kingsley? And we continue to plug stuff.
Have you ever wanted your carefree, blissful poolside tan interrupted by an assaultive collection of hateful bile? Then sit back in your lounge chair and apply the sun screen because we've got a show for you: this week's episode has us parsing 2000's witty and strange British crime flick Sexy Beast! But before we catapult face first off the diving board, we snack on an endlessly sumptuous Blue Plate Special, covering topics as varied as Dennis Hopper's unlikely 1980 punk masterpiece Out of the Blue, new release Bullet Train and a spirited post-screening reaction it inspired, and the outright cancelled release of Batgirl and the larger restructuring of Warner Brothers and HBO Max it foretells. We finally get around to executing this week's job, promoting a discussion of the British crime film and its narrative/aesthetic interests, how Jonathan Glazer's direction upsets them, and endlessly delight in Sir Ben Kingsley's immediately iconic performance as the villainous Don Logan. Where did you learn who Josh Peck was? Through his award-winning performance in Drake and Josh when he was a teen? Starring next to Ben Kingsley in The Wackness? Or has it been more recently in Disney+ Turner and Hooch? What I learned in this interview is that you likely didn't know who Josh was, because for years, he strenuously devoted himself to developing the Josh he wanted you to see. The comic. The really funny guy. Only through fighting severe drug addiction and finding sobriety did he begin to realize what he hadn't wanted anyone, including himself, to see. Abandoned by his dad, Josh grew up in a very loving but somewhat vagabond partnership with his mom; he decided on the cusp of adolescence that he was going to be successful. And he was. But the pain he'd been hiding from was waiting for him - as it always is. Celebrity overdoses that ended in death - Heath Ledger and Brad Renfro - woke him up to what he was doing. As well as finding what he calls his "Apostles" - a piece of advice he got from Sir Ben Kingsley himself. I loved talking with Josh. His book is funny, yes. But his sincerity and a very mature humility shine through. His journey is more than worth sharing. And his book, Happy People Are Annoying, is available now! So in this episode sponsored by BetterHelp, you can get to know the real Josh Peck. As he now is. And who he intends to be in the future. IMPORTANT OFFER FOR YOU! We live in an age in which we often only see the best aspects of the lives of others. People share their successful destination, but not the (often difficult) journey they took to get there. This leaves many people thinking there's a missing "manual" that everyone else has but they somehow overlooked. Today's guest is Josh Peck. His new memoir Happy People Are Annoying shares his journey from child star to acting alongside some of the biggest names in the industry. We discuss why growing up as a child of a single mother impacted how he thought about business, great advice he received from Sir Ben Kingsley, and why love of craft is about more than just a feeling but is a deeper sense of connection to the work. The finale is here! Does Moon Knight make it all work? Is there room for a second season? Did they introduce a new superhero who can show up in team-ups instead of Oscar Isaac?Plus: Marvel news! The usual digressions! Skip to 27:24 if you don't care about that stuff. But if you do: we love you. This show will NOT be going dark until Ms. Marvel. We're gonna talk about some stuff that's slightly outside of the remit of the program, just to keep the fun going, but we'll be staying in the live action superhero TV arena. Next week: The Challenge of the Superheroes!, the insane 1979 live-action DC superhero TV special, one of two produced that year. The second, The Superhero Roast, we'll be doing the week after. Great news: you can watch this free on Tubi. See you next week! And by the way, if you want to hear us talk about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness the only place for that is Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast. It's available at the $5 and above levels of the Patreon. Join now at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha!
This week Moon Knight heads into the endgame with a... clip show?!? Well, not a clip show but a solidly surreal flashback episode that fills in a lot of the gaps in Moon Knight's history and the origin of Marc Spector's split personality. First we have a bunch of news to go through, including the sad loss of the great Neal Adams. While discussing this we recount an Adams story but get the specifics wrong - it's not Green Arrow who is weirdly racist... it's The Flash! Here's a link to the true version of the story! We also talk about live theater and a whole lot more, but jump to 42: 38 if you don't care about that. That'll bring you to the main episode, where two Catholic boys weigh in on Jewish law. We will return next week with the finale of Moon Knight, and in the meantime consider getting more of us by joining the Patreon - www.patreon.com/cinemasangha. For $1 a month you get The Bad Batch, our Star Wars TV show podcast, where we're gearing up for the new Kenobi show. Are ya ready to bust some tombs? This episode of Moon Knight takes us deep into adventure archeology, one of the great genres and one we see all too rarely. Then it takes a hard left in the final minutes, giving us some surreality we were not expecting. And all of this without a single appearance of Moon Knight! In the intro we hit the latest comic book movie news, including the continued plight of Ezra Miller, the new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer and more. If that stuff doesn't interest you, skip to 33:52 to get to the main Moon Knight madness. We shall return next week. In the meantime, check out our other shows at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha - The Bad Batch, a Star Wars TV show podcast available to $1 and above subscribers and Watch Men, a monthly superhero deep dive show for $5 and above subscribers. The last two episodes have been about Morbius and The Batman, and the next will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Check it out!
This week we have some questions, including why is that guy tugging on Moon Knight's cape and why is Marc Spector asking rando guys in the street about the location of a sarcophagus? And isn't there a website that will let you look at what the stars were like in the past? But don't take these questions for complaints; Moon Knight episode three continues the show's streak of feeling a lot like a comic book, complete with things happening because they're cool as opposed to logical. And we love that!It also shows that this program is hard to pin down - this episode feels like a totally different show than the last two. If your main character has split personalities you have the option to have split genres on your show.We talk Marvel and DC news in the intro, which lasts until 35:17. so if you don't want to hear our witty banter, skip right to there to get the meat of the episode. We'll be back next week. In the meantime find us at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha where we have two other podcasts: The Bad Batch, a Star Wars TV show podcast for $1 and above subscribers and Watch Men, a longform monthly superhero deep dive podcast for $5 and above subscribers. This week we summon the soup as we continue our adventure in the world of Moon Knight, the new MCU show currently on Disney+. Moon Knight so far has been pretty darn cool, and it feels very unlike other previous Marvel stuff. This episode in particular leans into some cool horror stuff... that, weirdly enough, echoes imagery seen in this weekend's latest Marvel masterpiece (please read the sarcasm), Morbius. In this episode of Marvelvision we talk about Marc Spector's different identities and how they work, we enjoy his new suit, and we sing the praises of Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy, as well as loving on Oscar Isaac as per usual. Want more Marvel from us? Join the Patreon at the $5 or above level to get Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast. The latest episode is Morbius, and next month's will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Click here to join!
Hey, remember us? It's the Marvelvision boys, and we're back with a new Marvel show! We did a little diversion into Peacemaker and then took a few weeks off, but we have returned and we are ensconced in the old MCU again. Or are we? .This is one of the subjects tackled in this week's Marvelvision, about the first episode of Moon Knight. The showrunners have said that they disconnected this show from the larger Marvel Universe, so we shouldn't expect a lot of connections, nods or cameos. That said, we do get at least one Easter Egg relating to the Moon Knight comic book. On this ep we talk about the very, very strange debut of this new show, the fact that Moon Knight has no definitive storyline, and the ways that Oscar Isaac is bringing his A-level acting game and his extreme D-level British accent game... and how that could be on purpose? If you missed us while we were away you should be subscribed to our other show, The Bad Batch, where we discuss Star Wars TV shows every week! That's for $1 subscribers at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha.If you want to hear us talk about the MCU movies, as well as all the other superhero movies being released these days, subscribe at the $5 level to get Watch Men, our superhero movie deep dive podcast. Our latest episode, about The Batman, is almost five hours long. Next week we'll have an episode about Morbius. We watch so you don't have to! Subscribe right here. See you here again next week for episode two of Moon Knight. Thanks for listening!

CLICK TO SUBSCRIBE ON YOUR FAVORITE PODCATCHER CONTENT WARNING: Discussion of colonialism, racism, the Holocaust, repression, rebellion, conflict, nationalism, fascism.. It's near impossible for any biopic to capture the true story of anyone's life, but it's even more daunting talking about the figure at hand this week. A man took on the weight of a nation of hundreds of millions to stare down the British Empire, and in doing so created an entire philosophy of activism that took decades to formulate. It would take several books just to cover everything that went on in his life, let alone a 3 hour film. And while most movies buckle under that pressure, this one manages to keep you engaged, most notably because our lead performer is just so amazingly talented. As much as the production was a labor of love, it all means nothing without a stellar, stunning debut from Sir Ben Kingsley. Not many of us can brag they've been murdered on screen by both Sir Ben Kingsley and Bill Paxton; Becky Ann Baker can, in the respective thrillers The Confession and A Simple Plan. “I always say we got into this business to die, because it's the most fun you can have,” she once said. Her long list of movie, TV, and theater credits also includes iconic shows such as Freaks & Geeks and the HBO's millennial-skewering comedy, Girls, for which she was nominated for an Emmy. Although she has built a reputation as one of our most accomplished character actors in shows as varied as Big Little Lies, The Good Wife, and Blacklist, Baker began her career primarily in musicals, as a singer who could dance. It took ten years of open casting calls and auditions before she was able to sign with an agent. “I wasn't your thin little blonde,” she has said. “I was a second banana character person. I don't think anybody knew what to do with me, so it took a while.”
This week we're talking about the latest entry in the MCU, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and staring Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Meng'er Zhang, Fala Chen, Michelle Yeoh, Wah Yuen, Florian Munteanu, Ronny Chieng and Sir Ben Kingsley. We talk about our first impressions of the movie and all of its well crafted characters and how this story fits into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe and how it propels it forward.

We are back with another tangent-filled episode, and we have a special guest; KC's best friend Shandel! This week, you all voted and we watched the time-period romantic movie "TUCK EVERLASTING" based upon the book of the same name. The story follows a young woman named Winnifred "Winnie" Foster who is on the cusp of woman-hood and, on a walk through the forest, she encounters a handsome and mysterious young man named Jesse and his intense older brother Miles. And just like that, Winnie is kidnapped and finds herself living with a family of immortals with a slower, more deliberate way of living than Winnie has grown accustomed. As Winnie's parents grow worried for Winnie the longer she is missing, they hire a Man in a Yellow Suit, played by Sir Ben Kingsley, to track her down, but this guy has plans of his own when he discovers who she is with. Lots of intrigue and mystery and beautiful forest settings fill up this 90-minute breeze of a movie. There are definitely some problematic things that occur for us to talk about and we even get to talking about "Cruella" and Twilight and so much more. Hope you enjoy! Be sure to vote for what we watch next week: MISTER MAGOO - Comedic actor, Leslie Nielsen, stars in this comedy about a nearly-blind, eccentric old man named Mister Magoo as he is witness to a crime, whether he knows it or not. MY FAVORITE MARTIAN - Starring Christopher Lloyd as a martian who lands on earth and must go into hiding at a schlubby broadcast news assistant played by Jeff Daniels, the Dumb half of "Dumb and Dumber."
