This unique festival brings to life a selection of original one-act plays written by local elementary and middle school students—performed onstage by professional actors and community volunteers. The Young Playwrights' Lab began more than 20 years ago as an after-school program designed to foster literacy, confidence, and creative expression. Today, it's impacted over 2,000 students and remains one of the most joyful, collaborative, and heartfelt nights of theater in the region. You get mad scientists, Greek gods, talking sharks—and themes that hit surprisingly deep. Mary Wright, who helped launch the program more than two decades ago, describes the festival as “a window into what kids care about right now.” With themes ranging from friendship and family to bullying and climate action, the work is wildly imaginative and undeniably heartfelt. Touchstone's Young Playwrights' Lab uses improv games, writing exercises, and group collaboration to help students develop their own one-act plays. Each year, a handful of these are selected and professionally staged as part of the festival. Krista Metter, who made her debut in last year's production as a scene-stealing octopus, shares how being part of the cast made her feel “like a kid again”—and how the program builds deep community ties by giving young voices a real spotlight. “It's not just a performance,” says Mary. “It's a celebration. A party. And the kids are at the center of it all.” With over 100 plays written this year alone and countless community members stepping in to help with directing, costumes, and production—this event has become one of the Lehigh Valley's most treasured arts traditions. At local Northeast Middle School,  a 14-year-old was stabbed multiple times by another student and later died from his injuries. Our condolences go out to the family for this sad, tragic loss. People  need to be held accountable when they are measures in place that are not being followed by school officials. This school had resource officers, medal detectors, and the students were required to carry clear backpacks. The school administrators failed, other students failed and as a result of their careless actions, this promising young man is no longer with us.The War in Ukraine is not ending anytime soon. Russia has made a threat against the United States by stating that if we continue to provide aid and resources to Ukraine that we will suffer unpredictable consequences. Vladimir Putin also made a statement saying that he feels this war is the noble thing to do. Who is going to step up and stop this evil? While crime is on the rise, many analysts are trying to figure out what is the cause for the uptick in theft. During the beginning of the pandemic, the government infused a lot of money into the country which in turn lifted  folks living in poverty to middle class. Victims are sharing their stories on social media platforms on how thieves are disrupting their lives and we're just trying to figure out how and why.Over the past 2 years, 47 million people have quit their jobs. Why and how do people continue to leave the workforce without another job in hand? Employers are still struggling to find top talent to fill their job openings. Folks still want a more flexible schedule that will allow for them to work more hours remote or full time remote. California is looking to adopt a 4-day work week that would allow for employees to work 32 hours a week and any hours over that would be overtime pay. If companies can offer this benefit to employees, it might encourage folks to get back in the workforce and show that more organizations are listening to their employees and trying to find ways to continue to offer a more work life balance for their employees.Welcome to Season Three of Authentic Filters episode Eleven. If you enjoyed what you listened to and want to keep the conversation going, be sure to like, subscribe, and share with your family and friends. We want to thank you for taking the journey with us thus far and we're excited to see where it goes next! Let's Get Into It.

Search all Homes for SaleI've been meaning to highlight areas of Minneapolis that I enjoy and that are also worth living in. Today I'll be speaking about my own neck of the woods, which is Northeast Minneapolis. There is a lot to do around here, whether you like sports, music, art, or just a cold beer. This area boasts a strong arts district which hosts something called Art-A-Whirl every year that brings in a lot of local artists and musicians. You can learn more about this festival here.Northeast Minneapolis is sometimes referred to as Nordeast, and a lot has changed in the last 10 years. However, a lot of old institutions are still here like Jax Cafe, Stanley's, and Elsie's Bowling Alley. There is also a fairly new place called The Anchor, which serves fish and chips and is one of the highest-rated restaurants in the area. Betty Danger's Country Club has a Ferris Wheel attached to their restaurant, so this is a perfect destination for your family. You can even dine in one of the cars on the Ferris Wheel! One of the major reasons that the Nordeast is prized is because we have very good schools in this part of the city. Waite Park Elementary School has been ranked extremely high, as well as Northeast Middle School, and then there is Edison High School. If you're thinking of buying a home in Northeast Minneapolis, I recommend you come out and take a look. It's a very relaxed, family-friendly area. Please don't hesitate to ask me about this part of Minneapolis because I would love to talk to you about it!
