In deze special praten we over Pixar in Disneyland. Volgens mij was ‘Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast' het eerste wapenfeit van de animatiestudio in een themapark. Maar Erwin weet beter. Het gaat om het goedkope ‘Buzz Lightyear's Pizza Planet' restaurant in Disneyland Paris. Verder gaan we de Disneywereld op zoek naar Pixar-attracties. We hebben het over de veelheid aan ‘Finding Nemo'-adaptaties, zoals het grappige ‘Turtle Talk with Crush' dat tegenwoordig viraal gaat op TikTok, of het gemakzuchtige ‘Crush's Coaster' in Parijs. Over hoe er een zoetrope verstopt zit aan de ingang van de Ratatouille-ride. Erwin legt uit waarom er zo weinig Pixar-attracties zijn en waarom deze niet altijd werken: Disney-verhalen spelen zich immers af in andere werelden, Pixarverhalen voornamelijk in de onze. En verder doet hij een warme oproep tot de rehabilitatie van ‘The Music of Pixar Live!', een concertshow in Disney's Hollywood Studios met de mooiste Pixar-scores. De combinatie van soundtracks en Pixar, dat kan ik best wel smaken.

The Music of Pixar LIVE! A Symphony of Characters, was a limited time event at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios.  The event featured a live orchestra and appearances from Disney Pixar characters.  The event was part of the “2017 Summer Celebration” and featured multiple performances a day in the Hollywood Studios Theater of Stars on Sunset Boulevard.  The theater may be best known as the Beauty and the Beast Stage, which was performed during the day, with The Music of Pixar Live performances in the evening, typically 5:00, 6:30 and 7:45pm.  Featuring highlights from some of Pixar’s greatest movie scores like – Toy Story, Cars, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Up, the performance is an emotional journey of Pixar story telling via music. The live performance took advantage of the huge video screens originally installed for Star Wars Weekends back in 2015 (SamsDisneyDiary #51).  The display, along with the live orchestra, provided a window into Pixar movie magic; and in some cases, had me watching the screen.  I found myself watching the clips from the movies, forgetting that the music was being performed live.  The orchestra sounds absolutely wonderful and perfectly matched the scenes.
