Computer graphics (or CG) has changed the way we experience the art of moving images. Computer graphics is the difference between Steamboat Willie and Buzz Lightyear, between ping pong and PONG. It began in 1963 when an MIT graduate student named Ivan Sutherland created Sketchpad, the first true computer animation program. Sutherland noted: "Since motion can be put into Sketchpad drawings, it might be exciting to try making cartoons." This book, the first full-length history of CG, shows us how Sutherland's seemingly offhand idea grew into a multibillion dollar industry. In Moving Innovation, Tom Sito--himself an animator and industry insider for more than thirty years--describes the evolution of CG. His story features a memorable cast of characters--math nerds, avant-garde artists, cold warriors, hippies, video game enthusiasts, and studio executives: disparate types united by a common vision. Sito shows us how fifty years of work by this motley crew made movies like Toy Story and Avatar possible. Tom Sito has been a professional animator since 1975. One of the key players in Disney's animation revival of the 1980s and 1990s, he worked on such classic Disney films as The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), and The Lion King (1994). He left Disney to help set up the Dreamworks Animation Unit in 1995. He is Professor of Cinema Practice in the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. Before she was a cast member on Saturday Night Live, Sasheer Zamata was a cast member at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, where she would climb inside the character costumes and mingle with guests at the park. One particular costume, Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, was particularly cumbersome and uncomfortable and that's where Sasheer had her first ever, full-blown panic attack. It's a stoners holiday, Mica and John go to Chili's without Ross, questionable movie recommendations, studding out your dog and the Jeep finally off-road. Katie and Bridget fly through the air via rocket as they re-watch the movie: Toy Story! It's an adorable little movie made for children all about toys coming to life... JK its really about toy DRAMA/toy TRAUMA and how your lives are in never-ending danger!!!!?!?! They face lots of different obstacles including: crazy neighbor kids who need to have their Amazon accounts shut down; hellbent dogs (much like our dogs Penny and Bear!); your cult turning against you; your owners moving without you; your owners overall just losing you; being strapped to a rocket; almost exploding in the air; almost being burned alive; there's also some potential cannibal toys too until there's not - you know what, just take our word for it that this movie is seriously TOY DRAMA AND TRAUMA! Released in 1995, it was Pixar's first movie ever!

Ride like the wind, Bullseye! A little over 1 year after Jackie and Tyler hosted their Toy Story takeover episode, we're revisiting the franchise by reviewing a beloved sequel to the Pixar movie that started it all: Toy Story 2 (1999). After being kidnapped during a yard sale by a greedy toy salesman, Woody finds himself at the heart of a shady business deal that will send him and the other toys from his collection to a museum in Tokyo. It's up to Buzz, Rex, Hamm, Mr. Potato Head, and Slinky Dog to save the day and rescue Woody from his terrible fate. Along the way these toys learn about overcoming one's fears, what it truly means to belong somewhere, and the bittersweet beauty of childhood impermanence. Considering how massive the original movie was, do we feel that this sequel holds up? Or would we have preferred to just play the Buzz Lightyear video game and call it a day? Let's find out together!
Karl and Tonya sit down to discuss the latest Toy Story movie which find our cast of toy characters on a road trip in an RV where they discover former toy companion Bo Peep, who now leaves as a free unowned toy. A new toy enters the story- Forky, who, of course, gets lost and needs rescued. This installment also introduces several new toy characters which we may see in future movies.
The ring must be destroyed! Carried to the foot of Mount Doom and thrown into the volcano there in order to destroy its evil power. So, who's going? Maybe Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy? This month we are casting Disney characters to fill the shoes of our fellowship, as well as some other key players in the Lord of the Rings story.Host: Eugene StephensGuests: Kris Andrew, Ray Andrew, Shaun McLarenLike the show?
