News: Disneyland's Autopia attraction is facing a strict state-mandated deadline to retire its gas-powered car fleet by February 1, 2027, or face being shut down. This comes after Honda discovered an administrative engine certification error in 2023, resulting in a 2024 environmental violation notice and a financial settlement for Disney. While the compliance plan doesn't explicitly force electric vehicles, Disneyland officials have confirmed they are actively developing a fully electric car prototype to keep the 71-year-old ride running. – https://www.micechat.com/437247-disneyland-news-autopia-tinker-bell-construction/ To celebrate the release of Toy Story 5 this summer, Disney California Adventure is introducing rotating drawing lessons for characters like Woody, Buzz, and newcomer Lilypad at the Animation Academy. Additionally, starting in early July, Disneyland Resort hotel guests can exclusively enjoy the “Poolside Splash Bash,” featuring themed dance parties, trivia, and character appearances in new costumes. – http://laughingplace.com/disney-parks/celebrate-toy-story-5-new-lessons-disney-california-adventures-animation-academy/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disney-poolside-splash-bash-toy-story-5/ Disney Parks has officially retired FLIK, the wait-time tracking system that helped measure attraction queue times for more than 25 years. Introduced in 1999, FLIK relied on guests carrying red tracking cards through attraction lines, with the final installation recently removed from Goofy's Sky School at Disney California Adventure. Disney now uses newer technologies, including MagicBand data and sensors, to monitor and post attraction wait times more accurately. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/flik-ends-disney-parks/ Construction walls have recently come down around a new two-story Downtown Disney building, signaling that the ground-floor Earl of Sandwich and upstairs Gordon Ramsay restaurant, The Carnaby, are nearing completion. Meanwhile, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters has officially reopened following a refurbishment that updated its exterior with a retro 1967 Tomorrowland color scheme. Although official opening dates for the new dining spots haven't been announced yet, both the restaurants and the refreshed ride represent major visual updates for the resort. – https://www.laughingplace.com/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/astro-blasters-new-colors-disneyland/ Guest falls down Tiana's Bayou Adventure – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/06/23/disney-guest-falls-down-50-foot-drop-on-tianas-bayou-adventure/ Disney Legend Floyd Norman will receive an Honorary Oscar at the 17th Annual Governors Awards on November 15, 2026. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is presenting him with the lifetime achievement award to honor his barrier-breaking, 65-year career as Disney's first Black animator. They also dig into listener questions about steak pricing, Jersey Week crowds, and whether Disney's new AI trip-planning tools could reshape vacation booking. Then Jim takes us back to the early days of Imagineering's Living Character Initiative, where Mickey's Toon Elevator, Dinotopia, and one very complicated dinosaur helped pave the way for interactive characters in the parks. NEWS • Disney's hotel-room patent appears to confirm how “virtual reservations” can hold back short stays to protect longer bookings. • Walt Disney World expands verification checks for buses and boats leaving Disney Springs. • A rare two-park, two-day ticket deal targets late-summer demand at EPCOT and Animal Kingdom. • Lakeshore Lodge's Pocahontas-themed pool area, The Wetlands, gets a closer look. • Disneyland's Autopia faces a February 2027 deadline to retire its gas-powered engines. FEATURE • Jim traces the Living Character Initiative back to Push the Talking Trash Can and Mickey's Toon Elevator. • Lucky the Dinosaur's development gets tied to ABC's short-lived Dinotopia era, allegedly. • Imagineering's early living-creature tech needed carts, batteries, and a whole lot of legal caution. • The story sets up Disney's next wave of interactive characters after the Pixar acquisition. In the 299th episode of The Main Street Electrical Podcast, Jenn is sailing the high seas around Italy on the Disney Dream, so joining Dave in the podcast is first time guest / guest co-host April Craft, aka Curated By April on Insta. A fellow travel planner at Upon a Star Travel, April is here to give her own opinions and discuss all the latest! First, April is excited about helping the clients, while Dave is happy with Toy Story Taylor (Tay Story?) CDs in the mail. Then, a look at the latest, including Disneyland changing up their Autopia cars... the breakfast buffet returning at Chefs de France... and then, an extensive look (much longer than we thought) at the Eat to the Beat line-up, highlighting artists that we know (Boyz II Men! Tiffany! Fitz!) and spotlighing those we aren't sure about (Fly Guys? The War and the Treaty? Element?) Finally, we look at the new small announcement made by Disney last week, that the new policy for parking at Disney Springs will take effect on June 28th - and how a small announcement has turned into quite a topic, mostly supportive, but also those pushing back. We chat about why we like it, how people will try to get around it, and address some of the biggest questions on it - including how Disney doesn't like to give details when making such policies.
Jim Hill and Len Testa start with Monstropolis, Disney park capacity, Universal patents, and the sort of tequila event that makes you check whether your Epcot admission is included. Then Jim looks back at Disneyland's very first Grad Nite, held on June 15, 1961, when 8,500 well-dressed seniors were locked inside the park until 4:30 a.m. Along the way, they cover Life magazine's lost photo spread, chaperone lounges, forbidden long hair, and the timeless teenage urge to stash contraband somewhere near Autopia. It is history, logistics, and questionable decision-making, which is to say: high school. NEWS • Monstropolis details reveal “Human Day,” a walking route inspired by Mike and Sulley's commute, and Disney's growing fondness for “you're invited to a special day” ride premises. • Grand Floridian Cafe closes July 19 for refurbishment, raising the important question of whether the menu gets more than new curtains. • La Cava del Tequila hosts a July 14 Epcot event with tastings, cocktails, lunch at San Angel Inn, and a commemorative 1982 menu. • Disneyland restores all-day park hopping, while early signs of DisneylandForward construction point toward a new parking structure and future DCA expansion. • Listener questions cover theme park capacity math, House of Mouse villains, Monstropolis pin trading, and whether Universal's latest patents could make vending machines and park transportation a lot smarter. FEATURE • Jim traces how Disneyland's original Grad Nite grew out of Walt's decision to close Holidayland and Jack Lindquist's search for a new after-hours revenue stream. • The first Grad Nite brought 8,500 students from 28 Southern California high schools to Disneyland for $6 each, or about $67 in today's money. • Life magazine sent four photographers and shot thousands of photos, only to bump the planned spread when the Berlin Wall changed the news cycle. • Disneyland's Grad Nite rules included school buses, dress codes, chaperones, locker checks, planter searches, and haircuts for boys whose hair dared to touch a collar. In AI oops, Dodge briefly sells T-shirts featuring what appears to be a Toyota Tacoma. For all the things AI does well, it's also known to have its limitations. These limitations were recently on full display when Dodge RAM enthusiasts discovered what might be considered an odd handful of items on the brand's online merchandise store.Among the tumblers, coolers, hats and backpacks featuring the RAM logo, was a product dubbed “2026 RAM PATRIOTIC UNISEX T-SHIRT.” The patriotic part was a red, white and blue illustration of a rippling American flag and the RAM part was a graphic of a pickup truck with the words “RAM POWER” underneath. It didn't take web sleuths very long to point out a few unsettling details about this design, however. For one, the American flag featured just 38 stars and the RAM truck – well, it wasn't even a RAM.According to a report in Autopia, the truck's details suggest that it was, in fact, a competitor's vehicle – a Toyota Tacoma – from model year 2023, at that.It was this indefensible gaffe that led to speculation that the shirt – as well as a complementary banner on RAM's site that also featured the Tacoma – was a product of AI, and shortly after the web coverage, both offending products were removed.Motor1 underscored the punchline by pointing out that Stellantis had another AI swing and a miss back in March when the Dodge brand used its Instagram account to feature “throwback” photos of some of its old models. Unfortunately, it turned out the vehicles were AI-generated, meaning some of the featured models never, in fact, existed.Perhaps the takeaway here is that, if you're going to use AI to generate content or designs, make sure you keep enough humans around to check for slop, because anyone who works for Dodge probably could easily tell the difference between their own truck and a Toyota. As Autopia's report said, what this t-shirt featured was “definitely not a RAM, even if someone or some algorithm slapped a RAM badge on that distinctive Tacoma grille,” adding that RAM “should be embarrassed.”#Manufacturing, #ManufacturingNews, #Automotive, #AutomotiveNews, #RamTrucks, #DodgeRam, #ToyotaTacoma, #AI, #ArtificialIntelligence, #AIGeneratedContent, #Stellantis, #Technology, #DigitalMarketing, #TruckIndustry, #Automation

Higher fuel costs and rising demand for alternative-fuel vehicles drove the surge, with used EV sales volumes up 33% in March and April combined compared to January and February.GREEN TECH NOW SHAPES HOME BUYINGResearch by E.On Next found that 93% of 1,000 prospective UK homebuyers want green energy features such as solar panels and EV charging in their next property, with 70% now considering energy technology non-negotiable. Rising energy costs are the main driver for 52% of respondents, and E.On Next's own sales reflect the trend, with solar and battery sales up 182% and heat pump sales up 129% since February 2026.GRIZZL-E CLUB HITS 10,000 MEMBERSCanada's Grizzl-E Club reached 10,000 members on May 14, 2026, doubling its membership in roughly two months since passing 5,000 in March. Run by United Chargers, the no-fee programme uses Clean Fuel Credits to fund free home charging hardware, lifetime warranties, and energy cashback, with members having received CA$300,000 in rewards to date.GERMAN TRIAL TURNS PARKED EVS INTO FERRY BATTERIESA German research project called BIDI-EL will test using parked EVs at a North Sea ferry terminal as temporary energy storage to help charge electric ferries when they return to port. Led by Osnabrück University and ferry operator Norden-Frisia, the €164,894-funded trial combines solar panels, existing fixed battery storage, and EV batteries to maximise renewable energy use, running until January 2027.RISING POWER BILLS HIT EV CHARGING SATISFACTIONThe J.D. Power 2026 U.S. EVX Home Charging Study found that rising electricity costs and poor owner education are reducing EV satisfaction, with Level 1 portable charger satisfaction dropping 12 points year-over-year to 569 out of 1,000. Only 12% of owners have enrolled in utility smart charging programmes despite 69% awareness, and just 20% of buyers received home charging guidance from their dealer.DISNEYLAND AUTOPIA GOES ELECTRIC IN 2027Disneyland will replace the petrol-powered cars on its iconic Autopia ride with electric vehicles in 2027 as part of Disney's goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2030, following a $56,000 settlement with the California Air Resources Board over emissions violations. Original Autopia car designer Bob Gurr, now 94, confirmed the new electric cars will keep the same dimensions and track layout, with upgraded lighting and sound effects added.
Len Testa and Jim Hill break down a busy week in theme park news, from Bluey crowd control at Animal Kingdom to Universal's possible drone-show ambitions. Len also crunches the numbers on the best days to visit Magic Kingdom, because nothing says vacation like 22 million wait times and a spreadsheet with emotional damage. Then Jim digs into Disneyland's opening-day ticket scandal and why Walt Disney may have had very good reasons to sour on Western Publishing. NEWS • Disney's Animal Kingdom prepares for Bluey with a virtual queue and some serious toddler-capacity math. • Len explains why Sundays may be your best Magic Kingdom bet from January through July, while party season flips the calendar. • Disneyland's Autopia goes electric in 2027, raising questions about batteries, car design, and Tomorrowland's long-overdue tune-up. • Universal Orlando surveys guests about pets, which may hint at Secret Life of Pets possibilities in Florida. • A new Universal patent features an onboard animated figure, possibly a frog, possibly a nightmare with wheels. FEATURE • Jim revisits Disneyland's chaotic 1955 opening day and the mysterious flood of “legitimate” invitations. • The story points toward Western Publishing, one of Disneyland's earliest investors and official printers. • Walt's later decision to buy out Western may have had more behind it than simple business strategy. • Also discussed: C.V. Wood, Black Sunday, Bob Gurr, Richard Nixon, and why the Secret Service probably hated the monorail. For this episode's full show notes, click here. Before there was Disneyland, Bob Gurr was part of Walt Disney's secret team. One of the original Disney Imagineers, Gurr designed Matterhorn, Autopia, Monorail, Haunted Mansion and anything on wheels at Disneyland. A true Disney legend, he is also an L.A. Native and regales us with stories of how L.A. has changed over his 90+ years - and what he likes best about Disneyland, even if he didn't design it!
Send a textWhat if the smartest way to fix a ride isn't to rebuild it, but to tune what fans already love? We set ourselves a constraint-heavy challenge—no bulldozers, no new IP, just targeted upgrades that sharpen story, comfort, and interactivity—and the ideas started to fly.We kick off with a crisp Summer Jam from Shades of Green, then dive into headliner debates. Tiana's Bayou Adventure gets a character remix as Louis leads a gloriously off-beat band hunt that resolves into a splashdown crescendo. Radiator Springs Racers earns a kinetic upgrade with dirt-track drifting through high-speed corners. Roger Rabbit gets gamified with a “spinometer” and Benny's delightfully passive-aggressive driving tips. Over in Epcot, we modernize Mission: SPACE into a SpaceX-flavored mission console where your timing matters, alarms blare, and teamwork lands you safely—no more dummy buttons.Comfort and clarity drive big wins. Jungle Cruise flips to forward-facing seating and stronger audio so every punchline lands. Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom deserves Disneyland's silky track and roomier vehicles. Indiana Jones trades dated projections for crisp animatronics, cinematic lighting, and denser sets. Ratatouille's queue transforms from hallway to Parisian street theater, with sizzling kitchen aromas and scale gags that sell the shrink. Spaceship Earth gets audible narration and playful “thank the Phoenicians” tags to carry smiles between eras.We future-proof the playful, too. Autopia goes fully electric through a living Tomorrowland city, guided by AI cars that coach your driving and score smoothness. Buzz Lightyear's blasters finally aim true and reward accuracy, not spam. Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway leans meta with flickering “set” glitches, prop gaffes, and a Chuuby short that deepens the payoff. Expedition Everest multiplies the mayhem with curious baby yetis and a brief “off the rails” jolt that turns first rides into legend. These are small, surgical changes with oversized impact: better queues, cleaner audio, sharper thrills, and more reasons to ride again. If you love Disney parks and believe classic attractions can evolve without losing their soul, you'll have opinions. We want them. Subscribe, share with a fellow park nerd, and tell us the one small change you'd make first.
In the 284th episode of The Main Street Electrical Podcast, Jenn & Dave are once againg putting on their CEO hats, now turning their new found (if only imaginary) powers to Disney World West... that of course being Disneyland! And to do so, they invite in (for their fourth appearance) Friends of the Show and the hosts of the popular Skywalking Through Neverland podcast, Rich & Sarah! First, their take on both Josh D'Amaro becoming the new Head Cheese for Disney, and then their thoughts on Disneyland's Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. Then... what happens if Josh calls us all up and tells us that we are the new CEOs of Disneyland Resort? We can't plunk down a new land or a big ride in the middle of the park, but overall, we can do what we want to make the parks even better! Including ideas from rare characters to updated After Dark parties to a Tiki Room feast to getting rid of the noxious fumes at Autopia. Also, maybe we should get rid of the bottlenecked crowds (mostly made up of teens on their phones) with the new Move Along Cast Members... Make sure to listen to Skywalking Through Neverland every week on all your fave pod places!
New magic is landing from every direction, and we're sorting the signal from the noise so you can plan with confidence. From Bluey stepping into the parks and onto the ships, to Electric Mayhem cranking up Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, to Autopia finally going electric, this week is packed with news that actually changes how you map a Disney trip. We walk through what's opening, what's closing, and what's getting better so you spend less time guessing and more time making great choices. On the East Coast, we dig into Walt Disney World updates: refreshed tech on Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, a thoughtful reimagining of Hollywood Studios' Animation Courtyard, and Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival dates that anchor spring travel. Animal Kingdom's next chapter begins as DinoLand sets its farewell, while Frozen Ever After gets a visual lift with new animatronic faces. We also flag the take off date for Soarin' Across America and how limited-time overlays like The Mandalorian on Smugglers Run can flip a must-skip into a must-do.Out West, the long 70th celebration keeps Disneyland lively even as smart maintenance windows rotate key attractions. We break down Haunted Mansion and it's a small world returning from their holiday states, Rise of the Resistance scheduling, and the practical win of Autopia's electric conversion in 2026. California Adventure's event cadence stays strong with Lunar New Year and Food & Wine, and Bluey's Best Day Ever brings hands-on play to the Fantasyland Theatre—an easy anchor for family downtime between headliners. We also head to sea with Disney Cruise Line: the Disney Adventure's complex journey toward Singapore, Bluey programming rolling onto the Dream and Wish, and an intriguing West Coast outlook that could make short back-to-back sailings the savvy path to status. Whether you're plotting a once-a-year vacation or stacking weekends around festivals, you'll find clear takeaways, key dates, and a few pro tips to avoid hiccups and long lines.Enjoy the episode? Send us a textWhat if Space Mountain became Santa's fastest delivery route and the Yeti threw on a red suit for the holidays? We grab our Stroopwaffle bourbon coffee and go full Imagineer, sketching Christmas overlays that turn familiar Disney attractions into fresh, festive adventures without losing what fans love most.We start with the big swing: Space Mountain as a sleigh run, sleigh-styled vehicles, rooftop and chimney projections, and upbeat holiday tracks synced to the lift and drops. Pirates gets a winking twist, recasting scenes as family-holiday archetypes—cookie-bearing aunts, the legendary tipsy uncle, a peekaboo “Christmas thief”—anchored by a cheeky “Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Nog.” Indiana Jones evolves into Eye of the Forbidden Nutcracker, with March of the Toy Soldiers, chestnuts roasting cameos, flurries in the dart scene, and a Santa-faced boulder barreling to Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.We keep rolling with overlays that feel big but install smart. Autopia turns into a North Pole light drive—snow tires, frosty vistas, and synchronized LEDs that make nighttime laps magical. Country Bear Jamboree needs only the right centerpiece: Big Al crooning Blue Christmas and a snow-kissed finale. Expedition Everest shifts to Expedition North Pole, a serene Winter Wonderland climb that snaps into Sleigh Ride chaos the moment the track ends, starring Disco Santa Yeti. Toy Story Mania goes Krampus Mania with coal shots, rooftop clears, and chipmunk hijinks scored to novelty classics. And for projection perfection, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway becomes a frantic Christmas Eve: traffic, last-minute shopping, Daisy's party dance, a scramble for Pluto's gift, and a peaceful ride home.If you're into holiday overlays, theme-park music cues, or just want a delicious bourbon coffee recipe, you'll have plenty to steal and debate. Hit follow, share with a Disney-loving friend, and tell us: which attraction needs a Christmas makeover next?
Send us a textWhat if your favorite Disney rides got a full holiday glow-up? We poured a Stroopwaffle bourbon coffee and went all-in on seasonal overlays, sketching out scene-by-scene makeovers that keep each attraction's DNA intact while layering in music, projections, scents, and plenty of festive chaos.First up, Space Mountain gets a “Santa's Galactic Delivery” sprint with sleigh-styled cars, poppy Christmas tracks timed to the lift, and rooftop chimney fly-bys racing past in the dark. Pirates of the Caribbean becomes a family holiday fever dream—relatives re-cast as pirates, cats in Santa hats, and a cheeky “Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Nog” soundtrack. Indiana Jones Adventure morphs into Eye of the Forbidden Nutcracker with toy soldier set pieces, Chip and Dale roasting chestnuts, a Santa-faced boulder, and snow effects that turn the dart room into a blizzard. We keep the momentum going with Autopia as a North Pole light drive—minimal changes, maximum magic—ideal for night rides under synchronized holiday lights. Expedition Everest reimagined as Expedition North Pole sets up a cozy Winter Wonderland climb that snaps into Sleigh Ride-speed mayhem with a Disco Santa Yeti. Toy Story Mania goes full Krampus Mania with playful, song-timed targets that make every pull hilariously mischievous. And because projections make quick work of seasonal swaps, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway turns into a charming Christmas Eve dash: shopping traffic, Daisy's dance party, a last-minute Pluto gift run, and a calm cruise home with a Santa-bearded Chuby. If you love Disney parks, Jollywood Nights, and smart seasonal overlays that deliver fresh thrills without heavy downtime, this one's for you. Hit play, then tell us which ride deserves a holiday makeover and the song you'd score it with. Subscribe, share with your park buddies, and leave a review to help more Disney fans find the show. Cheers to Ears—and cheers to Christmas at the parks!
The coldest place in the nation today is near Nashville, Tennessee, where temperatures in Gatlinburg hit 3 degrees. Tim explains that technically we’re still in a long-term ice age, but in a warmer “interglacial” phase that began 2.6 million years ago, with the last deep freeze ending about 12,000 years ago. The forecast for Southern California has changed — expect six straight days of rain. Tim reminisces about Disneyland’s Autopia, comparing it to how L.A. streets now look cluttered with trash, asking why people have stopped caring. Mammoth Mountain delays its opening day by one day due to the storm. On a lighter note, Elizabeth Olsen told Seth Meyers she’s a fan of Dodgers reporter David Vassegh. The show wraps with Tim thanking listeners for all the birthday cards and gifts he received. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's not just a compliment, it's a fact: Bob Gurr is a bona fide Disney Legend and at age 93 he shows little sign of slowing down. With a background in automobile design, Walt Disney sought him out in 1954 and immediately put him to work. For the next twenty years he had a hand in almost every major attraction in Disneyland, beginning with Autopia. He then opened his own shop and worked for theme parks around the globe. Jessie has vivid memories of the 30-foot King Kong he built for Universal. She and Leonard were delighted to spend an hour with such an inspiring man.
Flight 44: If it moves on wheels at Disneyland, it was probably designed by 93-year old Disney Legend and Thea Lifetime Achievement recipient, Bob Gurr. Walt Disney was so impressed with his knowledge and skill, that he invited Bob Gurr to join WED Enterprises to design the very first Autopia cars that debuted at Disneyland in 1955. Over the past 74 years, Bob has made transportation magic worldwide, developing such legendary Disneyland ride vehicles as the Monorail, the Flying Saucers, the Haunted Mansion “Doom Buggies," the Submarine Voyage sub fleet, the PeopleMover, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds. After “retiring” in 1981, Bob went on to co-found Sequoia Creative and design the massive King Kong animatronic for Universal Studios Hollywood. He designed the flying spaceship for the 1984 Olympics opening ceremonies, effects for The Jacksons' Victory tour, and dinosaurs for Steven Spielberg's “Jurassic Park.” Plan now to join us as Bob climbs aboard a vehicle with no wheels for a journey across ten decades on one of the most incredible time travel adventures we've ever had!

News: It is that time of the year to start planning for the Halloween season at Disneyland. Next week, Oogie Boogie Bash tickets go on sale. This is a competetive event to get tickets for, so be sure to get in early and pick your dates. Inspire Magic Key holders can get tickets starting on June 24th no earlier then 9am Disneyland time, with all other Magic Key holders having an opportunity starting June 25th. General public sales start on June 26th. Dates start even before the Halloween season on August 17th, and run through October 31st. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/2025-halloween-at-disneyland-oogie-boogie-bash-dates-and-more/ There are some other updates on the Halloween season at the resort. For 2025, Halloween Time will start on August 22nd and run through October 31st. Mickey and Minnie will get new outfits for the occasion, as usual. This time they will be a twist on the 70th costumes! Haunted Mansion Holiday is returning, along with Halloween Screams. Over in Disney California Adventure, Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween, Mater's Junkyard JamBOOree, and Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark are returning. Mickey's Trick and Treat is coming to the Disney Theater for the fall, replacing Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! Of course food and merchandise will be along as well. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/2025-halloween-at-disneyland-oogie-boogie-bash-dates-and-more/ With Halloween Time and Disneyland's 70th happening at the same time, you might wonder what is staying from the 70th during the spooky season. Paint the Night, World of Color – Happiness, and Tapestry of Happiness will continue to run throughout the season. Disney says “areas and attractions around the resort will retain special touches, including decorative accents and the colorful castle photo opportunity in the esplanade.” – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/2025-halloween-at-disneyland-oogie-boogie-bash-dates-and-more/ This Saturday, a few authors of Disneyland books will be at Wonderground for a book release and signing. Don Hahn and Christopher Merrit will be on hand to sign The Happiest Place on Earth: The Incredible Story of Walt Disney's Disneyland, Martha Blanding and Tim O'Day for Groundbreaking Magic: A Black Woman's Journey Through the Happiest Place on Earth, Matthew Reinhart for Disneyland Park (a Pop-Up Park Tour), and finally Bob Weis with Dream Chasing: My Four Decades of Success and Failure with Walt Disney Imagineering. The event is from 10am-11:30am. – https://www.micechat.com/417417-disneyland-update-guest-injury-expansion-blues/ A couple of construction items that we have been following at the resort have some updates. Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room has a reopening date of July 3rd! Pixie Hollow has been behind construction walls for a while now, and looks to be returning on June 29th. – https://www.micechat.com/417417-disneyland-update-guest-injury-expansion-blues/ When we were in the parks a few weeks ago, we noticed new lamp posts in front of Main Street Station, by the Mickey floral. Walls are back up in this area to install more of these lamp posts. The new lights look like gas lamps, but use regular bulbs with a mesh over them to give a vintage look. – https://www.micechat.com/417417-disneyland-update-guest-injury-expansion-blues/ We talked about the neat Magic Band touch points around Disneyland in a previous episode, but there was still one location that had not come online yet. The last point in Tomorrowland, themed to Autopia is finally online. This one is a bit of a letdown as this one only makes car noises when activated. – https://www.micechat.com/417417-disneyland-update-guest-injury-expansion-blues/ An update that came to Epcot at Walt Disney World has made its way to DCA! Soarin' Around the World has been updated to fix the skewed Eiffel Tower in the attraction. – https://www.micechat.com/417417-disneyland-update-guest-injury-expansion-blues/ Over on Pixar Pier, the new Rex meet-and-greet is available. Rex is out and looks as adorably scary (if you can say that about Rex). – https://www.micechat.com/417417-disneyland-update-guest-injury-expansion-blues/ SnackChat: Trip Food (Savory Eats Treats) Discussion Topic: Spring 2025 Disneyana Event The Happiest Place on Earth- Chris Merritt and Don Hahn – https://www.laughingplace.com/w/disney-parks/d23-live-stream-happiest-place-on-earth/

Eclipses are fairly rare, but nothing really fantastical or magical about them, just scientific. But that doesn't mean you can't use it as a cool motivator in movies. We look back at movies where an eclipse played an important role. The moon will be covering the sun today, but after it's over you'll be able to enjoy other covers. Musicians often cover other artists' songs. And sometimes their version ends up being more popular than the original. We look at a few legendary ones. But what could be more legendary than the best cover artist of them all; Weird Al Yankovic? Not all of Al's songs are covers, but the parodies that are are excellent. Some are even better than the one they are parodying. Are you in the path of totality? What are you covering today? The Walt Disney Company held its annual meeting of Shareholders. This event was seminal in that it concluded a feud between outside investors and Disney. It allowed Bob Iger to emphasize a message of 'Renewed Strength'. But there is more to learn from all of the tea leaves of this presentation. We'll discuss not just some of the many facets of where Disney is and what it intends to do moving forward, but focus largely on parks and experiences--to include new insights on the Padora/Avatar attraction coming to Disneyland Resort., and its possible tie to an announcement about the Autopia this week. We'll also look at Bob Iger's own response to Universal's Epic Universe being built just down the way, and how Disney has been "strategically" anticipating this addition for over ten years. So join us as we look at the results and insights of Disney's 2024 Annual Shareholder's Meeting. __________________________________________________________ My new book, A Century of Powerful Disney Insights is available! Imagineer Bob Gurr has always been a man on the move. And for nearly 40 years, he's helped move many a happy Disney theme park guests aboard vehicles and ride conveyances of his own design. As he has often quipped, “If it moves on wheels at Disneyland, I probably designed it.” He developed more than 100 designs for Disneyland from Autopia to the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Bob's authored books, raced cars, flown airplanes, and had a hand in a multitude of automotive designs including cars, trains, trams, monorail trains, the list goes on and on and on. In 1999, Bob was honored with the Themed Entertainment Association's Lifetime Achievement Award (THEA). The Walt Disney Company honored him in 2004 as a Disney Legend, again honored in 2008 with a Disneyland Window on Main Street.
