Let's Talk About The People Mover In Disney World
Send us Fan MailDisney feels expensive now. Crowded now. Scheduled now. So we try something different: we time travel, cocktail in hand, and rebuild two Disney vacations from the ground up to see what the parks were really like when the rhythm was slower and the price tags were smaller. We start at Geo-82 in spirit with a Brulee Banana Highball: whiskey, banana liqueur, espresso syrup, Oloroso sherry, club soda, and cacao bitters. Then we jump straight into the challenge. One of us goes deep on Disneyland 1973, when ticket books still shaped your whole day and the Main Street Electrical Parade is brand new. The other maps out Walt Disney World 1984 with an old-school stay at the Polynesian, early EPCOT details, and side quests like River Country and Discovery Island.Along the way we compare admission prices, hotel rates, dining costs, and the feel of attractions across decades, from classic Magic Kingdom lineups to the edutainment-heavy early EPCOT era. We also get honest about what we'd actually want from the past: not “better,” just different, including one hill we'll die on, bringing back the PeopleMover. If you love Disney history, Disney nostalgia, trip planning, or just arguing about what the parks gained and lost over time, hit subscribe, share this with a Disney friend, and leave us a review with the year you'd time travel to.

This week, Sent from Disneyland continues its mailbox tour with two more lost Disneyland mailboxes—and one modern postcard surprise. First, a 1976 Matterhorn postcard takes us to a forgotten Tomorrowland mailbox once located beneath the Skyway, Monorail, and PeopleMover. Then, a 1965 Frontierland postcard leads us to the mailbox hidden beside the Westward Ho Trading Company and its iconic wooden Indian photo spot. Finally, an incoming 2026 postcard featuring vintage stamps and a Sinatra quote ties today's mail magic back to Disneyland. Along the way: park history, extinct attractions, vintage stamps, and the stories written on the backs of postcards. Candice's Perfect Magic Kingdom Day (No Stress, No Rope Drop, No Lightning Lane)What does a perfect day at Magic Kingdom actually look like… when you account for wait times, weather, and the reality that your feet will eventually stage a protest? In this episode, Scott and Candice map out Candice's ideal Magic Kingdom day—from a relaxed morning at Disney's Beach Club Resort all the way through fireworks, late-night snacks, and a well-earned nightcap. But there's a twist: this isn't fantasy planning. They build the day in real time, factoring in actual wait times, park flow, and those inevitable Disney curveballs. The result? A practical, enjoyable, repeatable Magic Kingdom strategy that proves you don't need Lightning Lane—or a 7:00 a.m. wake-up—to have an incredible day.
There are some new plans for the People Mover!

The suitcase zippers are straining, work piled up all week, and a Disney Magic cruise is hours away. Perfect time to hit rewind to January 2022! We're taking you back to where our show began, re-airing our very first recording, and reintroducing the two nerds behind the microphones: Alicea and Nathan, high school sweethearts who moved from the East Coast to the Seattle area and accidentally became Disney adults. We unpack the numbers that shape our point of view: 14 Disney trips since 2009, 127 nights in Disney stays, and 11 cruises—two of them Panama Canal crossings, one finishing as the world was closing down. You'll hear the earliest sparks that made Disney stick, from a drumline turning onto Main Street with the castle dead ahead to the Wonderful World of Disney and Mousercise on vinyl. Then we rapid-fire through our favorites with practical detail: why Haunted Mansion still haunts us, why Rise of the Resistance feels more like cinema than a queue, and how PeopleMover earns its “underrated” crown. We talk DVC stays at Riviera and Aulani, the intimacy of the Disney Wonder, Garden Grill breakfasts that feel personal, and the eternal Dole Whip vs. churro standoff. This is also a map for what came next. We share how we keep up with Disney news without parroting headlines, how we'll handle topics like Genie+ only after firsthand use, and why our goal is to deliver weekly, focused episodes that help you plan smarter trips without losing the joy. Expect honest takes, usable tips, and plenty of park and cruise wisdom gathered from real itineraries. Have a question or a hot take? We want your voice in the mix.Subscribe, share with a fellow Disney fan, and leave a quick review to help others find the show. Then tell us: which park wins your heart, and what's the one ride you'll never skip?----Adventures & Mousecapades is a passion project from Alicea & Nathan Novak - two Seattleites addicted to The Mouse. Nostalgia overload, secret park plots, and crazy fan demands. Will Disney deliver the ultimate revival? Since its closure, fans have campaigned for its return, with petitions, social media movements, and discussions on various message boards. Rumors periodically surface about Disney considering a revival, fueled by nostalgia and the track's enduring presence. 85 Minutes.
The countdown to Wine & Dine is on, and the energy is real. We swap last‑week training moves, practical travel advice for 2026 bookings, and a surprisingly useful shoe debate: are Brooks' Stitch-themed Glycerines a smarter buy than limited race-weekend drops? Then we bring in a conversation that will change how you see your run, your city, and your next trip to Disney.Author and advocate Doug Gordon (Life After Cars) joins us to explore a world with fewer cars and more options—walking, cycling, transit, and micro‑mobility that actually fit everyday life. Doug uses Disney's transportation web—monorail, Skyliner, ferries, buses—as a live model for moving huge crowds smoothly without private cars. We talk runner safety and the power of systemic fixes: lower speeds, protected lanes, better crossings, and design that invites lingering, not just passing through. He connects Epcot's original vision to what we crave today: places that feel good to move in.We also spotlight the Chicago Marathon with a stacked roundtable. Hear an expo that hums, a 5K with countries on bibs, and race-day stories that span sub‑three breakthroughs, 60‑minute PRs, back‑of‑the‑pack grit as the course comes down, and a tribute run that turned grief into a 15‑minute PR. Charity teams like American Cancer Society, Ronald McDonald House, and Achilles International show how big-city chaos becomes community. The crowds? Electric from start to finish. We wrap with meetup details (find us by the bleachers), the short‑fuse Disney gift card reminder, and a race report that tours PRs, spooky sprints, endurance milestones, and firsts worth framing. We've covered the news of Ford moving their headquarters to a shiny new facility… and demolishing the Glass House on Michigan avenue from a couple of angles. First, economic development and the business reasons. Second, the history of Ford's impact on Dearborn, going back a century. Now, in the third and final installment of the series, we're getting into the history of the Glass House itself. The significance of its architecture and the time in Metro Detroit in the country. We're also going to talk about fanciful plans that were drawn up for Ford more than fifty years ago that would have remade the look of the city into something almost out of science fiction. Dearborn might have gotten it's own rapid transit hub… and its own People Mover… as part of a massive redevelopment of that middle of the city that was Henry Ford's old land into everything from shopping to industrial to company campus. Our guest is Mark Nickita, FAIA. He's an Architect, Urban Designer, and President of ArchiveDS. He's also a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Toyota's popular Highlander has celebrated 25 years in Toyota showrooms this year, but the bigger story might be its stretched sibling. The aptly named Toyota Grand Highlander joined the family-hauling rotation in 2023. Still riding on the same TNGA-K underpinnings as the standard Highlander, this Grand model stretched the wheelbase and shell to live up to the prefix. This larger shell adds more space, almost across the board, with extra space at the rear cargo hold taking center stage. Powering the Toyota Grand Highlander is either a turbocharged 2.4-liter I4, a 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain, or the Hybrid Max powertrain that blends a turbocharged 2.4-liter I4 with a hybrid system to net 362 combined horsepower. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Patrick Carone hops behind the wheel of the 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander hybrid and puts it through its paces. Carone takes you on a guided tour of the Grand Highlander and highlights some of his favorite features. Later, Carone takes you along on a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Carone chats with host Wesley Wren about the 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes the Grand Highlander special.
Flight 44: If it moves on wheels at Disneyland, it was probably designed by 93-year old Disney Legend and Thea Lifetime Achievement recipient, Bob Gurr. Walt Disney was so impressed with his knowledge and skill, that he invited Bob Gurr to join WED Enterprises to design the very first Autopia cars that debuted at Disneyland in 1955. Over the past 74 years, Bob has made transportation magic worldwide, developing such legendary Disneyland ride vehicles as the Monorail, the Flying Saucers, the Haunted Mansion “Doom Buggies," the Submarine Voyage sub fleet, the PeopleMover, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds. After “retiring” in 1981, Bob went on to co-found Sequoia Creative and design the massive King Kong animatronic for Universal Studios Hollywood. He designed the flying spaceship for the 1984 Olympics opening ceremonies, effects for The Jacksons' Victory tour, and dinosaurs for Steven Spielberg's “Jurassic Park.” Plan now to join us as Bob climbs aboard a vehicle with no wheels for a journey across ten decades on one of the most incredible time travel adventures we've ever had!

You may have become so used to them that you no longer notice, but snaking through downtown Indianapolis' northwest quadrant are the remains of a revolutionary public transit system that transported riders on elevated tracks 30-feet high. It was called the People Mover, developed for $44 million by Clarian Health Partners, the hospital system now known as Indiana University Health. From its launch in 2003 to 2019, it recorded roughly 6 million rider trips on a 1.4-mile track running between Methodist Hospital, University Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children. The People Mover had the cooperation of city officials, who allowed the track to use public right of way along Senate Avenue, West 11th Street and University Boulevard. And the People Mover was filled with promise, as some predicted it could be expanded to a larger public transit system that would include Indianapolis International Airport. But tram came to screeching halt in 2019, when IU Health said it would begin offering shuttle buses instead and expected to save about $40 million over 10 years. That also was about the time IU Health began planning a massive facility consolidation and modernization project downtown. IBJ reporter Daniel Lee has a personal connection to the People Mover and recently began looking into what remains of the twin-track system and whether IU Health has any plans to resurrect it. In this week's edition of the IBJ Podcast, Lee also gauges support for a proposal that would transform the infrastructure into an elevated trail celebrating the heritage of Black communities on downtown's northwest side.
