Creepy clues are hiding in the landscaping of the Tower of Terror's exterior queue…. but only if you know what to look for. Drop in with us to the Hollywood Tower Hotel as we step into the queue of this iconic Disney attraction and explore the Imagineering details most guests miss while waiting in line for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. In this episode of Distory, Kirk takes us on a tour of the landscaping design, identifying plants and their significance to the story being told. Kate explains some antiquated terminology on signs, we try to make sense of something that doesn't seem to serve a purpose, and find a plant that probably never should have been planted. As we wrap up this episode, Kate shares a few stories from a fellow historian, Kirk shows us a dangerous plant, and we admire a few trash cans before saying goodbye to the unsettling garden.Join us LIVE on YouTube most Thursdays at 10:30am Pacific/1:30pm Eastern for more Distory!Kate's Youtube: @disneyciceroneYou can also find us on Instagram, Facebook, and at disneycicerone.com & walruscarp.comView full video versions of each episode at Disney Cicerone's YouTube channel HERE OR on the Spotify version of our podcast. Many thanks to Disney historian Joshua at  E82 | The Epcot Legacy for contributing resources for this episode!Kate's books on AmazonWalrusCarp T-shirts & MerchMOWD appDistory T-shirts and StickersKate's Substack

What does a cocktail shaker and a 5-gallon canister of kerosene have to do with the Tower of Terror?Drop in with us to the Hollywood Tower Hotel as we explore the story, mechanical design, and construction of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror! This episode of our Distory with Kate and Kirk podcast explains how the complicated ride system operates, with some unique details and information from the Imagineers who worked on the project in the 1990s. We start with a detailed telling of the attraction's backstory before moving on to explore the history of elevators, explore some Disney “firsts” (and fact check some things that were not, in fact, “first”), and then move on to explaining how this attraction was engineered. Kirk takes us back in time, Kate takes us back to Big Thunder for a moment, and we wrap up the Tower's construction journey with a few thoughts from Imagineers (and a hilarious story from opening day).Join us LIVE on YouTube most Thursdays at 10:30am Pacific/1:30pm Eastern for more Distory!Kate's Youtube: @disneyciceroneYou can also find us on Instagram, Facebook, and at disneycicerone.com & walruscarp.comView full video versions of each episode at Disney Cicerone's YouTube channel HERE OR on the Spotify version of our podcast. Many thanks to Disney historian Joshua at  E82 | The Epcot Legacy for contributing resources for this episode!Kate's books on AmazonWalrusCarp T-shirts & MerchMOWD appDistory T-shirts and StickersKate's Substack

Everything you know about Sunset Boulevard is a lie. Well, maybe not ALL of it... But you probably don't know why it exists in the first place. On this episode of Distory, we are checking into the iconic Twilight Zone Tower of Terror to explore the evolution of the attraction's concept. After discovering how the Tower was named, we visit some rare Imagineering brainstorming notes, meet some boiler ghosts, and uncover how the design of the Tower impacted the entirety of the Sunset Boulevard expansion. Kate takes us through Kevin Rafferty's pitch to Michael Eisner, Kirk talks about design elements that came from historic places, and we pick apart the architecture to figure out the hodgepodge Hollywood Tower Hotel look. As we close down this episode, we run into Richard Nixon, meet some Queen Mary ghosts, and debunk a myth with the help of some Imagineering friends, a story that has been mistaken for truth by the Disney history community for years.Join us LIVE on YouTube most Thursdays at 10:30am Pacific/1:30pm Eastern for more Distory!Kate's Youtube: @disneyciceroneYou can also find us on Instagram, Facebook, and at disneycicerone.com & walruscarp.comView full video versions of each episode at Disney Cicerone's YouTube channel HERE OR on the Spotify version of our podcast.Distory T-shirts and StickersKate's SubstackKate's books on AmazonWalrusCarp T-shirts & MerchMOWD appFull Imagineering Panel Interview

PARTY PLEASER:Shirleon, Kathryn, and Melvin dive into that long-forgotten non-DCOM, Tower of Terror! If you remember programming on ABC called "The Wonderful World of Disney", then you'll remember this early Disney Parks ride-adaption! Ready to relive some memories? Topics: (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 30-minutes playing a horror-themed trivia wherein Melvin & Kathryn duke it out over who knows more horror trivia! Who knows, maybe you'll score more points than they do while listening? (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) Parts of the film are shot on the real Florida Tower of Terror location.Tower of Terror is part of the canon 80s & 90s films wherein strange men hang out with younger counterparts, specifically teen girls… which surely makes you think…For a film based on the The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride, the few special effects leave a bit to be desired. The very minor romance subplot (if you can call it that) is not only cheesy, it's also lame.So... if the ghosts are chill, why are they trying to scare everyone away? The drama during the climax is effective, and Shirleon & Melvin stepped away enjoying it.Recommendations:Maid (2021) (Series)Oddity (2024) (Movie)The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022 - X ) (Series)MAILBAG: Send questions with your first name and we'll answer them in future episodes! Aaron and Josh Sarnecky are here to celebrate the 65th anniversary of The Twilight Zone. Joining them is special guest Randy Allain, co-host of Pod of Doom and Media/Lit.  The Twilight Zone is a science fiction anthology series created by Rod Serling. It premiered October 2, 1959 on CBS. It ran for five seasons and a total of 156 episodes. The final episode aired on June 19, 1964. Reruns traditionally play on Syfy on New Year's and the Fourth of July. Each episode is a self-contained sci-fi/fantasy story, often featuring notable guest stars like William Shatner, Carol Burnett, and Buster Keaton. Rod Serling serves as the narrator and host. Most episodes feature a twist ending and a moral. Rod Serling received two Primetime Emmys for writing for The Twilight Zone. The series is universally considered one of the greatest TV shows ever made. It has spawned a movie and three revivals, the most recent series hosted by Jordan Peele on CBS All Access. Representing the series at Walt Disney World is The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, a thrill ride featuring a 130 ft drop. Aaron, Josh, and Randy talk about their familiarity with The Twilight Zone before going into the pilot episode. They then discuss other memorable episodes, the legacy of the series, and the possibility of yet another revival. After that, they discuss which Amusement Park Roller Coasters will be part of that grouping. Can you argue that the Velocicoaster shouldn't get a spot? Will The Beast be included? Is the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster in the conversation? What about the Lightning Rod or Lightning Racers? Then, they do an unprecendented third list and discuss which Amusement Parks make that list. Do you believe that Walt Disney World should be included? What about Universal Studios: Islands of Adventure? Can you argue that Dollywood deserves a spot? Are Disneyland and Hersheypark part of the conversation?

Do you ever feel like time should stand still, especially when it comes to the magic of Walt Disney World? This week, Britt and I whirled through the theme park's most treasured attractions, from the swashbuckling adventures on Pirates of the Caribbean to the cosmic zoom of Space Mountain. We mused over the moments that make these rides timeless, and even got into a friendly dispute about the ideal temperature for experiencing Florida's enchanting world of fantasy. Our conversation didn't stop at the borders of Walt Disney World. We ventured into the realms of Disneyland and California Adventure, where our hearts beat for the classic thrills like the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the cherished Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. These are the attractions that, in our eyes, should never change a pixel in their storytelling tapestry, as their charm and nostalgia are what keep us coming back for more. We even cast a loving gaze at the unsung heroes like "Living with the Land," sharing our conviction that these experiences are just as vital to the park's spirit. Finally, we peeked into the crystalline future with the upcoming Journey of Water inspired by Moana and defended the wild integrity of Disney's Animal Kingdom. From the majestic peaks of Expedition Everest to the soaring flights on Avatar's banshees, we agreed these attractions should remain untouched, preserving the enchantment that Disney's mastery has painted for us all. So hop aboard and join us as we celebrate the stories, the laughter, and the memories engraved within these Disney park masterpieces. Please check out our links below:Our Sponsor:www.mainstreettravelco.comEmail Us:circleofparks@gmail.comOur Website:www.circleofparks.comFacebook:www.facebook.com/circleofparksInstgram:www.instagram.com/circleofparksX:www.x.com/circleofparksSupport the show
