God appoints Aaron and his sons to serve as priests, clothing them in holiness and setting them apart to represent His people before Him. This points us to Jesus Christ, our true and everlasting High Priest—chosen by God, perfectly holy, and deeply compassionate, able to save completely all who draw near to God through Him. The post A Priest Forever appeared first on Mt. Rose OPC.

Having established that Christ is not an angel, but is the human son of God, and that He is able to understand our frailties, the writer then goes on to establish His priesthood. In this, since He is not a descendant of Aaron, the writer must use a different priestly order; that of Melchizedek.
Jesus meets all the qualifications to be our gentle, perfect, and faithful high priest forever.

Psalm 110 directs us to a mighty king who brings peace, a priest who offers bread and wine and blessing. He already exists and yet is coming. He will share rule with the I AM himself. Remind you of anyone? This swirls our minds. But we need to realize the depth of the person of Jesus. To know him rightly, we need to see how Jesus alone pulls all the threads of Scripture together. He is our savior. He is our Lord. He is also our priest who offered the perfect sacrifice to God: himself on the cross. He also continues in the role of priest, connecting God and humanity.
