Hiiii GGB! Today we talk about idolatry in relationships. —Idolatry is the act of giving your heart, worship, dependence, or devotion to anything or anyone other than God. —It's not just about golden statues — it's about what rules your heart, occupies your mind, and shapes your identity. —Every idol must be dethroned — not always by removal, but by reordering your love. When God is first, everything else can be healthy and whole. You're not going to want to miss this one. Idolatry of any kind is destructive and breaks God's heart— and idolatry in your relationships causes major chaos and misalignment. we love you so much. Jesus loves you more. -Ang & Ari ORDER OUR NEW BOOK! He's joined by Mr. Rob Guss, an elder at Calvary OPC in Glenside, Pennsylvania, who shares his powerful testimony of God's grace in delivering him from addiction.Addiction brings with it deep brokenness. It can consume a family's resources and, when discovered, often brings added pressure to the household—resulting in broken relationships, sadness, confusion, and other diaconal needs. This conversation hopes to equip deacons to better understand how to walk alongside those caught in addiction—emphasizing the importance of presence, listening, and long-term counsel. A practical case study at the end offers a real-world scenario, guiding deacons through how to respond when someone confesses a struggle with addiction. The episode reminds listeners that while the path may be long and difficult, deacons are privileged to come alongside those suffering with lasting hope through the love of Christ.Referenced in this episode:Flesh and Thorn: Understanding Addiction as Disease Dr. James Berry; Ordained Servant June-July 2018You can find all of our episodes at thereformeddeacon.org. When you're righteous, you can confidently ask God for both justice and mercy for people who hurt you, because he himself is righteous.
God gives the righteous a source of life that sustains them, while the way of the wicked ends up being unstable.

Episode 185: April 2025 Concert Report (Kylie Minogue, Alison Moyet) and State of the Podcast Where have Brian and Sarah been these last few weeks? Well, for one thing, they've been to several concerts! They started and ended the month of April by attending amazing performances given by a couple of musical icons—Kylie Minogue and Alison Moyet! The Kylie Minogue show on April 8 was the first time Brian and Sarah had seen the Australian diva in concert, and not surprisingly, she did not disappoint! Our hosts spend the first part of the episode recounting their experience at the Washington, DC show, and here in the show notes you'll find some pictures they took during the event. Then, on the last day of April, Brian and Sarah traveled to one of their favorite concert venues—The Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA—to be wowed by the incredible Alison Moyet! They last saw Alison perform in 2017, and it was such a delight to be able to see her on stage again. In fact, Brian and Sarah loved the show so much that they decided to give a song-by-song review of the evening. There are also a few photos from the Alison Moyet show in these notes. (And there are even more pictures from both shows on the Facebook page.) After they finish talking about the two big April concerts, our hosts turn the conversation to the current state of the podcast, and explain some of the other reasons (besides concerts) there haven't been new episodes in a while. But here's a spoiler alert for you: the podcast isn't ending, and in fact, there's a good chance of more frequent episodes in the future! However, you'll to listen to the episode to get all the details. Join Brian and Sarah for another fun and informative conversation about the recent past, and a peek into the future too! The Gospel of Mark describes in great detail what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. He talks about this in the context of the Kingdom of God of which Jesus is the King and his followers are His Kingdom.

Death is to be taken seriously: it's a monster. But its time is short.
The curtain was torn in two, and access to God is now open to all.
The triumphal entry of Jesus, on a lowly donkey, is a deliberate prophetic act. In this final week of His life, He is announcing that He has come as King.

Who do you say Jesus is? Like Peter we can think we know the answer that Jesus is the Christ, but we so often get wrong what it means for Him to be the Christ and what it means for our lives! Focus on Jesus and who He says He is and everything else falls into place. Don't get distracted.

Jesus offers his grace to anyone, regardless of their background or need, but you have to accept how he thinks and feels about you.

Mark 6:1-13
Mark 5:21-43
Do you feel tossed about by waves of life? Do you ever end a day feeling like you had whiplash from everything that happened that day? God changes us at different rates and in different ways throughout our lives. Some seasons he is working slowly and gradually, other seasons He makes big changes all at once. Let Jesus anchor you through these changing seasons. He will keep you from sinking.
Message from Miska Brown on February 5, 2025
Jesus often taught using parables. This morning we will consider how the Parable of the Sower reveals that the condition of the soil of our hearts is determined by what or who we are listening to.

Do you follow Jesus fully or half-way? Do you feel discouraged by how impossible it seems to follow Jesus fully? Let's wrestle with what it means to follow Jesus fully and what it looks like. The beautiful truth is that Jesus has chosen you fully to follow Him fully! The power to follow Christ, comes from Christ, not ourselves.
