Abraham was truly a great man! God chose to make His covenant with him, that "in his seed, all the families of the earth should be blessed." But when Melchizedek met Abram when he returned from the slaughter of the kings, Abram paid tithes to Melchizedek blessed him, thus showing that Melchizedek was greater. Melchizedek was a priest and a king, and a prominent type of Christ.

Let's dive in! TODAY'S DEVOTION: The most real, the most essential part of your identity is your soul. Our flesh, our bodies, they fail, and one day we'll be no more as they are, but our soul will remain. Our soul is eternal. Hebrews 6/19 says, this hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God's inner sanctuary. It's so easy for us to lose ourselves in this storm filled world. But the truest thing about your soul is found and anchored in your union with Christ. This anchor is held fast in the most secure and private and intimate of places with God. The Holy of Holies is being described here. In chapter 6 verse 19 and 20, he goes on to say, it leads us through the curtain into God's inner sanctuary. Jesus has already gone in there for us. The anchor of our souls leads us through the curtain into the inner sanctuary, that intimate, private, secure, safe place. The truest thing about you is found and is at rest with God. God has set aside this place to reveal himself to you and to reveal you to you. He wants you to know who you really are. So don't let the world determine the truest thing about you. Don't let your past determine the truest thing about you. Oh, he has established that already, and you are anchored securely with him. As you walk with God and spend time in his presence, he will reveal your soul to you. So come to him recognizing that you're anchored in him, allowing him to lead you into that most secure of places. Right with him, There you'll find the life, the hope, the courage, the strength that you need to move forward in this life with joy. And that's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, and my daughters, and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Who is this mysterious Melchizedek? And how does he resemble Jesus? I. Melchizedek resembles Jesus as a king and priest of God Most High, v1. II. Melchizedek resembles Jesus because he is king of righteousness, v2. III. Melchizedek resembles Jesus because he's the king of peace, v2. IV. Melchizedek resembles Jesus in that his priesthood wasn't hereditary, v3a. V. Melchizedek resembles Jesus as a priest forever, v3b.  

Hebrews establishes that Jesus is our Great High Priest. But there are some questions the readers need addressed. Jesus was not from the tribe of Levi, but of Judah. How could Jesus be a High Priest when He was not from the priestly tribe? Hebrews points to a different order of priests - the priesthood of Melchizedek. Who was he? Dr. John explains who he was and why his priesthood is greater than that of Levi. Jesus is not disqualified as High Priest but magnified greater than any earthly priesthood.Jesus, Our High Priest: A priest stands as intercessor between God and humanity. The priest offers prayers, sacrifices, and makes intercessions on behalf of the people. They act as mediators between the human and Divine. It becomes readily obvious why Jesus is described as the Ultimate Priest. In this 10-mesage series, Dr. John walks us through Hebrews chapters 5-7 and describes the priestly office Jesus performs on our behalf. DAVID SAW into the throne room of God—a vision used by Jesus himself to reveal his divinity. Psalm 110:1 reads: [Yahweh] says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.” Jesus used this verse to teach that “my Lord” (Hebrew adoni) was not David, since David was the author of the Psalm (see Matt. 22:44, Mark 12:36, Luke 20:42, and Acts 2:34). The conclusion is that the Lord to whom David referred was the Second Power in heaven—Jesus, the Messiah. (The verse is also quoted in 1 Cor. 15:25 and Hebrews 1:13.) We also discuss “the order of Melchizedek,” which the author of Hebrews used to demonstrate the primacy of the priesthood of Jesus, our high priest before the throne of God, to the earthly Aaronic priesthood, and that Jesus was distinct and superior to the angels.
