This week's episode of the podcast is a best of, or rather, an in memory of edition, as we highlight and remember actor/comedian Ricarlo Flanagan. Ricarlo was an amazing entertainer, having stolen scenes on shows like Insecure and Shameless, crushing it on Last Comic Standing, and putting on a fantastic performance in the movie Emily the Criminal. Ricarlo was not only a great comedian and actor, he was an absolutely amazing human being. We remember Ricarlo on this week's show with a re-airing of Sarah's chat with him from a few years ago. Cheers!

Ricarlo Flanagan was not only an amazing comedian, rapper, and actor, he was an amazing human being. Everyone that knew Ricarlo loved him. He will always remain one of the most naturally funny people I've ever had the pleasure to know and perform with. Ricarlo was a staple in the Michigan comedy scene before making his way to LA. The interview I share was our reunion conversation after not literally seeing or talking for some time. In our conversation, we picked up right where we left off before he left for comedy and TV fame. The interview is from January 2021 and Ricarlo passed away in October 2021. Having seen Ricarlo on Mad About You in December 2020. I called him and we found time to record this conversation together. It was great to share laughs with an old friend and hear about all of his successes. Ricarlo has a comedy album (Man Law) available on Amazon Music and can be seen in The Mick, Shameless, Walk The Prank, Mad About You, and Room104 to name a few of his many TV appearances. Notably, Ricarlo also was a semi-finalist on the 9th season of Last Comic Standing. Ricarlo had just begun when his life was sadly cut short but together let's celebrate a man that went all in during the time he did share with us. Comedian Ricardo Flanagan (NBC's Last Comic Standing, HBO's Insecure) started out as a young old man at the age of 13 cleaning up his local rec center, and he graduated into even weirder gigs in BBQ and also helping a real nice lady out in the woods. Through it all, he's kept a cool head as much as possible. Nick and Chase have a two job somehow both involving flags, and Ricarlo figures he's got a decent shot for at least one of them. On location in LA, Mel got the chance to sit down with Ricarlo Flanagan, a comedy counterpart from back in his early days of comedy. They reminisced about both starting out at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase, Ricarlo's rise in popularity in Michigan, and of course his migration to LA, and becoming a player in Hollywood with his numerous TV show appearances.
Idea: A shopping app that uses photo(s) of you (in your underwear) to calculate and show you what the clothes would look like on your body. Also: hackers stealing semi-nude photos from the app; helping the app determine your body dimensions by standing next to a celebrity mannequin (for example, Seth Rogan) in your photos; having to explain to other people why you have a mannequin of Seth Rogan in his tighty-whities in your house Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 51 Gimmy Cipriano (twitter.com/theRealGimmyC, twitter.com/aBitTooMuch1) Ricarlo Winston (twitter.com/thewolfspider23) Markus Olind (twitter.com/BeardVonMarkus) Tom Walma (twitter.com/thomaswalma) Recorded at Podcast Detroit (https://PodcastDetroit.com)

"A STAB AT STAND UP COMEDY" Ricarlo Flanagan hasn’t lived with his mother since he was 16 years old because Ricarlo and his Step Father’s relationship is complicated. Well actually, calling their relationship complicated would be a HUGE understatement. Ricarlo's parents had him at a very young age. Ricarlo’s mother was only seventeen and his father was nineteen when they had him. Soon after he was born Ricarlo’s father joined the Military. His mother hated this decision and the young couple split up. Years later, Ricarlo’s mother found herself marrying an abusive alcoholic who did not get along with Ricarlo. One day Ricarlo went to the hospital to support his friend whose father had recently had an aneurysm. When he got back home he found his stepfather really drunk and mad at his mother about some change she kept from the grocery store. His step father looked at it as stealing and wanted revenge. Things got heated and Ricardo and his step father started to fight. Thing escalated as they do and quickly took a turn for the worse. After the step dad scuffle, Ricarlo decided to move in with his father. During this period of his life, he made time think about his life. Where he was, and where he wanted to be. He rediscovered his motivation while living with his father in Michigan. It was a stress free lifestyle and he felt like his old self again. Ricarlo went back to school, lost weight, got a job and moved out. He ended up taking a comedy class because he didn’t know anybody in town and didn’t have anything to do on his days off work. That’s when he fell in love with comedy. Little did he know, Stand Up Comedy would turn his whole life around. Since then, Ricarlo has been featured on FUSE TV, Laughs on FOX and NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Ricarlo’s debut comedy “Man Law” is also available on iTunes. Enjoy.
