This week we'll look at James chapter 2 and the sin of partiality. James warns against attitudes and actions that promote injustice. It's not hard to see how we struggle with this in our day and age. Just like James' hearers, we need to be reminded that God desires that we treat each other in truly human ways. How do we practically do that? Join us Sunday as we discover how God's Word guides us towards spiritual wholeness.

I find it painful and embarrassing when my own hypocrisy is exposed. Yet, there's a part of me that takes a peculiar satisfaction in identifying hypocrisy in others. Especially the hypocrisy of those who have accused me of hypocrisy. I am very good at spotting your hypocrisy. In fact, as a good pastor should... I keep a spreadsheet. Now of course you might ask, where does Pastor Joe end up on this list… well, I’m not on the list. Keeping track of everyone else’s hypocrisy is a big job, I just don’t have time to track mine. Hypocrisy is a problem, a constant struggle for all of us, correct? So, we need to know how to deal with it. We think of hypocrisy as accusing someone of something we are guilty of as well. But it goes much deeper than that. Our hypocrisy can manifest itself in many different, overt, and subtle ways. Today we are talking about a specific kind of hypocrisy that James says is an important test of our faith. It’s the hypocrisy of discrimination, specifically within the church, showing favor to those who seem more desirable.

I agree with Pastor Ben…when I first heard the title of today’s teaching (“Can’t Buy Me Love”), my mind immediately reverted back to the old song by the Beatles. I almost grabbed my guitar and… On a serious note, in today’s teaching, Pastor Ben reminds us that money has nothing to do with how much God loves us. Our financial or materialistic riches mean absolutely nothing to God. The only riches that God sees in us is in our faith to Him. When our relationship with Jesus is constant, God sees the richness of our hearts. The more that we communicate with Him through prayer, the stronger our relationship with Jesus is. That’s what will get us in to Heaven, despite how much or how little money we have. Each of us is blessed with something different than our brothers. Collectively, it takes the union of every one of us to become one. Together we can help inspire others and bring others to Jesus. Jesus will do the rest of the work from there. Money can’t buy Jesus’ Love, money can only help take the gospel to the world to help give everyone the chance to experience God’s Love. Loving everyone is not always easy. However, Pastor Ben gives us a few key points that will help aid us to love one another as Jesus would… 1. In light of others through Jesus 2. Treat one another in light of grace 3. Treat others in light of God's word 4. In light of God's judgement Reference scripture : Ecclesiasts 5:1-5 ; 1 Samuel 16:7 ; Matthew 7:2 If you are interested in attending our live teachings (Wednesdays @ 7:00 pm & Sundays @ 10:00 am), please visit us at 4218 Boston Ave. Lubbock Texas.
