In this episode, Pastor Chris Kipp begins a new series entitled "You're Invited". This first message, "What Difference Does It Make?", comes from John 1:35-51 in which Chris traces the invitations surrounding Jesus' calling of his first disciples. Chris brings out the similarities between these first disciples and us today, then Chris challenges us to consider how we might join the mission of Jesus by inviting the unchurched & disconnected. We exist for the praise of the glory of God’s grace in Christ Jesus. Everything we do as a church must bring glory to God in the name of Christ Jesus. We are an intergenerational church. We strive to make a seamless journey of faith from birth to old age. We are overtly trinitarian. We are always looking for the work of the Father through the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. We value people. We present the ideal of God’s plan while embracing the reality of life.

Ever since John the Baptist made the first declaration that Jesus is the Messiah, men and women have had to wrestle with whether this claim is true or not. First century Judaism had several false "messiahs" claim the title as a political attempt to raise a rebellion to overthrow Rome. With false hopes lurking in the streets, could people dare to trust this message about Jesus? Even if they did believe Him to be the Messiah... what would that entail? In our text today, we see an invitation loaded with promise- "Come, and you will see." Coming implies drawing near. This is the first step in obtaining clarity about Jesus' identity. He may not be truly known from afar any more than you or I. If we are to know Christ, we must COME to Him. Only then will we be able to SEE because His light REVEALS what we could not comprehend while in the darkness. We must remember that this is only possible because God saw us first and came to us first so that we might come to Him and see.

Hope Fellowship Church Sep 22 – 28, 2019 ========== That You May Believe Part 2: What Are You Seeking? The Gospel of John is a powerful introduction to the character and nature of God through the Incarnate Christ. Fullness of life is only experienced through an understanding of God and the path to that understanding is Jesus. The Apostle John introduces us to Jesus not from just an academic approach but a very relational viewpoint. A true insider look at the Savior and rescuer of humankind. ========== • We want to populate our personal database with information relating to Jesus; Jesus wants our hearts. • The first step to understanding God’s plan for our life is an understanding of who Jesus is. • Walking in God’s plan for our life involves more than just knowing God’s plan for our life. • We don’t discover direction by seeking direction; we discover it through seeking Christ. • Jesus knows us while we’re under the fig tree and still invites us to come and see. John 1:35-39 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!" The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, "What are you seeking?" And they said to him, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?" He said to them, "Come and you will see." So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. 1. What are you seeking? Matthew 16:13-16 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." • You are the Christ. • The Son of the living God. • You are our Lord. John 1:40-42 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas" (which means Peter). 2. The journey to discovering God’s direction for your life must include change. John 1:43-46 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." 3. Don’t ignore the obvious when it comes to God’s plan. Jesus found Philip, Philip found Nathanael, Nathanael finds Christ. John 20:21-23 Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld." John 1:47-50 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!" Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus answered him, "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these." 4. While on the quest for guidance never forget that Jesus knew you while you were under the fig tree. “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Jesus John 1:51 And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." 5. Stop agonizing over every step of your life, God has this.
