Fishers Of Men - Guest Russ.mp3 by Ray Jensen
The passage from Mark 1:16–20 reveals Jesus' radical call to discipleship, not as a mere invitation to moral improvement but as a summons to abandon all prior identities—occupation, family, and security—for the supreme allegiance to Him. Jesus, as the unqualified subject of the call, demands immediate, total commitment, transforming ordinary fishermen into 'fishers of men' through personal following rather than formal training. This call is not based on human qualifications, social status, or intellectual prowess, but on divine initiative, demonstrating that God uses the unqualified to advance His kingdom. The disciples' response—leaving nets, boats, and even their father—illustrates the necessity of dying to self and embracing a life of costly, cross-shaped discipleship. Ultimately, the passage presents a vision of Christian identity rooted in intimate fellowship with Christ and one another, where true evangelism flows not from technique but from intimate, transformative relationship with the Savior.

When Jesus meets the woman at the well, He gives her hope and restoration, causing her to be forever changed. Her response? She returns to her town and invites them all to "Come and See" who Jesus is. We believe that Jesus is calling us to do the same in our community and invite them to "Come and See" all that Christ is able to do in their lives.
Part of the "Seeing Jesus" Sermon Series Rev. Tim Jackson
Jesus calls us to follow Him and to fish for people.
In John chapter 14 Jesus gives us both a promise and an instruction when He tells us that we would be the ones to continue to do His works in the earth. It's a powerful mandate and one that we need to keep in our focus as we fulfill His calling to become Fishers of Men.
Pastor Michael gears up for our annual Invite Fight by speaking on what Jesus called His disciples to become, Fishers of Men.
The sermon centers on the universal call of every believer to be a 'fisher of men,' rooted in Jesus' commission to Peter, Andrew, James, and John in Matthew 4:18–22, emphasizing that true discipleship begins with radical obedience—leaving all to follow Christ. It underscores that being a fisher of men is not dependent on charisma or special gifts, but on a transformed heart that yields to Christ's lordship and actively engages in evangelism. The message warns against spiritual complacency, illustrating how distraction and self-reliance can hinder mission, and calls for intentional, practical outreach—casting spiritual nets through personal testimony, Scripture, and relational engagement. It stresses that salvation is a free gift of grace, not earned by works, and that the Holy Spirit, not human manipulation, must draw souls to Christ, with the ultimate goal of leading people to genuine faith, not merely ritualistic conversions. The sermon concludes with a compelling exhortation to all believers to embrace their role in God's mission, knowing that every faithful effort, however small, is part of a divine harvest.
While standing by the seashore, Jesus saw two brothers who were fishermen by trade and invited them to join Him in ministry. He announced this invitation by telling them that in the future they would fish for more than just their dinner, that they would "fish for men..." The invitation to us is the same today – Jesus is inviting us to step out of our comfort to take part in His mission of capturing the hearts of people, and introducing the world to Him.

Every business runs on one thing. People. In this episode, Ed Wiens breaks down why recruiting isn't a phase, a season, or a skill you outgrow. It's the lifeblood of all business.Using fishing as a metaphor, Ed explains what most leaders get wrong about recruiting. He talks about becoming a “fisher of men” by focusing on patience, positioning, and effort, not pressure or persuasion.Ed has a knack for giving incredible stories and using them as teaching lessons! Very entertaining and insightful.

This week we will be studying Mark 1:16-20 under the theme “Calling Disciples.” Jesus doesn't call the qualified — he calls ordinary people in the middle of ordinary work and reshapes their lives around his Kingdom. When the King says “Follow me,” nets are dropped, priorities are reordered, and a lifelong journey of becoming “fishers of people” begins.Series Summary: Fast-paced, urgent, and relentlessly focused on Jesus, the Gospel of Mark shows us not just what Jesus said, but what he did. Written for a Roman world hungry for power, Mark introduces a surprising King - one who comes to serve, to suffer, and to give his life for many. Over the coming weeks, we'll walk this road with Jesus, from the wilderness to the cross, discovering how the Servant-King's actions reveal the true good news - and what it means to follow him as disciples who take up our own cross and trust him with our lives.Add St. Marcus as your church on the Church Center App!Fill out our online connection cardHow can we pray for you? Send us a textAnd Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” Luke 5:10Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. John 21:3From Peter's first call as a disciple to the end of John (chapter 21), we see a return to the thing he was doing before Jesus found him: fishing. It may have been a return to what was comfortable for him and the other disciples. It might have been finding something familiar amidst the disillusionment. Or it might have been just not knowing where to go after he (Peter) denied Christ. For whatever reason, Peter returns to the nets. But when are called by Christ, we are not to return to what He calls us from...whether a life of sin or to step into a new calling. Today's episode sets a tone for 2026: don't go back to the nets. What God has begun in you, continue to walk in it. Let Him guide and direct your path. Move closer to Him this year!

In this episode we look at the calling that we've all received to be fishers of men. We look at what this calling means for our spreading of the Gospel. We also look at what we can learn from fishing in the natural world and how we can apply those lessons in our spiritual fishing. We have to be aware of how we bait the hook, when we do our fishing and what season we're in. It's our job to launch out in the fish and do it skillfully and with wisdom!
(36) Matthew 4:18-22 Fishers of Men
Missionary Evangelist Robert Breaker talks about FISHING and how Christians are to be FISHERS OF MEN.
When Jesus first called His disciples into the gospel ministry, he met them not in a religious house, but in their place of employment as they were fishing in the Sea of Galilee. In this episode of Words of Grace, we turn to Luke chapter 5 and Jesus’ instruction to Peter to cast his net … Continue reading "Fishers of Men"
