I was at the mall watching people turn around the moment the up escalator stopped working, and it hit me how perfectly that mirrors the way most people treat their goals. In this episode, I break down the difference between people who truly want something and people who only want it when it's convenient. The climb is real, it always burns, and it never stops. But the views from the top make every step worth it, and once you get there, your job is to fix the escalator for the people coming up behind you. Key Takeaways Anything worthwhile requires you to take the stairs. The easy path always goes in the wrong direction. If your goal has a disclaimer attached to it, you do not want it as badly as you say you do. The climb does not get easier the higher you go. Mental and physical soreness is part of the process at every level. The higher you climb, the better the views. Pausing to look back at how far you have come is not weakness, it is necessary. Getting to the top carries a responsibility to make the climb easier for the people behind you. Action Steps Write down your top goal and remove every disclaimer attached to it. Commit to it without conditions or walk away honestly. The next time you face an inconvenient obstacle this week, take the stairs anyway and note what that decision costs you versus what it builds in you. Identify one person you can actively help get further faster using the hard work and experience you have already put in. Notable Quote The escalator up is always out of operation. The question is whether you take the stairs or go stand in line with the rest of the world.

Tu veux que je te raconte l'histoire du plus long escalator du monde? Alors attrape ta brosse à dents, ton dentifrice, et c'est parti!
They told me. I listened but never internalized it. Saturdays at Texas Frightmare Weekend are a madhouse. You can't fart and someone be unable to recognize what you've had for breakfast. The line to ride the ESCALATOR winds around like at Six Flags (The escalator actually broke halfway through the day.)Naturally, this day was the most packed. I and my producer/cameraman/best friend Dakota traversed like sardines through vendors, met Steve-O of JACKASS fame (who signs ass cheeks and regales curious onlookers with tales of his fake tooth that's removable at will) and checked out some decked-out hearses.Once the sun set, the convention kicked into high gear. First, the world premiere of Full Moon Features' MODELS VS. WEREWOLVES (AI slop). The movie wasted no time in contextualizing producer Charles Band's claim that Full Moon would release 10 films in 2026. How? AI. AI slathered on the screen like dirty Vaseline. There's no visual language developed, no direction, just the vomiting of pre-existing assets. I'd even grant it the moniker of 'collage' if I believed the placement of said elements extended beyond a Copy-Paste prompt.Operating as a salve to MODELS VS WEREWOLVES was the Fake Horror Trailer Showcase, presented by "Bloody" Bill Pon and Kelley Wilson (CIRCUS OF THE DEAD 1 & 2). Here is where anyone, of any skill level or experience, can submit a trailer for a fake horror movie. It flexes creative muscles and made for a riotous celebration of scrappy independence. Mixed in with the fake trailers were real trailers for GOLDILOCKS (twisted fairytale masked slasher)---Texas Frightmare Weekend's websiteFollow The Movies on Instagram & LetterboxdThrow a couple dollars in the tip jar!

Most people know they should handle hard conversations better. What they do not know is which specific pattern their brain runs every time the pressure is on. Dr. Janel Anderson identifies four distinct patterns: the Improviser, the Avoider, the Escalator, and the Deflector. She explains what drives each pattern, why most people misidentify their own, and why that misdiagnosis is the real reason nothing has worked. She also shares how to identify your own pattern accurately using a free two-minute quiz. If you have ever fumbled a hard conversation and wondered why, this episode will tell you.Find show notes at https://janelanderson.com/268
In this episode, Caitlin Fisher reflects on trauma responses, people-pleasing, relationship conditioning, compulsory heterosexuality, polyamory, patriarchy, and the surreal realization that maybe… not everything is her fault.

Michael speaks with Dr. Seth Jones, president of CSIS's Defense and Security Department, to analyze a critical moment in the Iran conflict: are we headed for a diplomatic off-ramp or a rapid escalation toward regime change? Dr. Jones assesses the degradation of Iran's naval and drone capabilities and explains why the current campaign has successfully reset the regional balance of power. However, he also explores the "buying time" strategy of Iranian diplomacy and the increasing pressure from Gulf states to see the regime ended as it continues to strike commercial and energy targets. Finally, Dr. Jones examines the tactical shift in Israeli targeting and what it means for the long-term survival of the IRGC.
Today we're talking about milestones in relationships, and how to build commitment when you're actively trying not to stay on the relationship escalator. We'll be discussing traditional milestones, why they're valued, how relationship milestones with one partner can affect other partners, and some of the research around jealousy and envy in these situations. We will also dive into some non-escalator milestones that you can consider for non-monogamous, escalator-free relationships, and going into the takeaways from the discussion at the end of the episode. Investor and entrepreneur Kevin Steuer joins me to examine whether Main Street investors can compete in a market dominated by algorithms—and whether competing is even the right goal. Most investing conversations reduce themselves to slogans: “Just buy index funds” or “Learn to trade like the pros.” This episode does neither. Kevin and I unpack the uncomfortable reality that nearly 90% of U.S. equity volume is now algorithmic—and what that means for individuals trying to generate alpha in a machine-driven market.Kevin shares how he acquired Stock TA, a technical analysis platform that had previously been shut down, and why he chose to rebuild it. We explore trend-following versus value investing, passive allocation versus active sector rotation, and the psychology that sabotages most retail traders long before the market does. The conversation moves beyond tactics into something deeper: the cost of time. At what point does investing become another job? When does persistence turn into hubris? And how do you measure expected value—not just in portfolio returns, but in hours spent chasing marginal gains? This isn't a promise that trading beats indexing. It's a sober look at risk, discipline, asymmetric bets, and the reality that markets don't reward narratives—they reward positioning. The lesson isn't that everyone should trade. It's that if you do, you need structure, probabilities, and the humility to know what game you're actually playing.TL;DR* ~90% of U.S. equity volume is algorithm-driven* Retail traders compete against rule-based systems, not other humans* Passive indexing may outperform most active traders long-term* Trend-following requires discipline—not prediction* False breakouts and stop hunts erode returns* Scaling into and out of positions reduces emotional decision-making* Expected value matters more than win rate* Time spent trading is an invisible cost most ignore* Persistence without edge becomes hubrisMemorable Lines* “The human brain doesn't think like a computer.”* “The price of anything can be anything.”* “Escalator up, elevator down.”* “Trend exhaustion—not emotion—should trigger exits.”* “If investing becomes a job, calculate the hourly rate.”GuestKevin Steuer — Investor and entrepreneurAcquirer and rebuilder of Stock TA, a technical analysis platform focused on trend scores, confluence levels, and sector-based strategy to help Main Street investors navigate algorithmic markets.

New to Solo? Start here! This re-release from the early days of the pod covers a concept that comes up again and again—in the podcast and Peter McGraw's book. The “relationship escalator” is the default path of dating, moving in, marrying, and merging lives. Amy Gahran, who coined the term, joins Peter to break it all down. We explore what the escalator is, why it's so invisible, and how Solos step off it—through consensual non-monogamy, platonic partnerships, sexual friendships, or simply going Solo.Love the show? Look. This episode is a hot mess. The girls are moving to San Francisco for a month, so they are distracted & stressed out. But they do their best to talk about James Comey's indictment and the impending government shut down. It's pretty much incessant ranting, with a lot of petty insults thrown in for good measure. It's definitely not top tier, by any means. A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: After perhaps the most hapless 96 hours of his presidency, the worst 96 hours of the worst presidency of ALL TIME, the most FAIL in the shortest span… the mentally-deteriorating, untethered-from-reality Trump… must RESIGN. And take his idiot sycophants with him. The last 96 hours: His U.N. speech, sounding like an escapee from a psych ward. His Tylenol news conference, sounding like an escapee from a psych ward who’s been living on the street for a month. His suggestion NATO countries shoot down Russian jets. His sudden embrace of Zelensky, either another stall or a stupid dare to Putin. MAGA’s RAGE AT his sudden embrace of Zelensky. The cover of a London right wing daily: his picture and in 72-point type, the word “DERANGED.” The ICE shooting in Dallas; his sadistic Homeland chief pretending the victims were agents when they were detainees; his idiot simpering Vice President pretending the victims were agents when they were detainees; his corrupt venal FBI director pretending the victims were agents when they were detainees. His ICE chief not denying he took $50,000 in a paper bag. His staff THEN denying he took $50,000 in a paper bag. His cancellation of a meeting with Democrats making sure if there’s a government shutdown it’s all his fault. His crackpot pal Milei crashing the Venezuelan economy and needing us to bail him out. His paranoia over the stopped teleprompter at the U-N that was his White House staff’s fault. His paranoia over the stopped escalator at the U-N that was his own vanity videographer’s fault. His desire to arrest the U.N. escalator technician or the U-N escalator button pusher. His desire to arrest the escalator AND James Comey. The election of Raul Grijalva’s daughter to Congress. The fact that Adelita Grijalva will be the last Representative needed to force a vote on releasing the Trump Epstein Files. His self-humiliation at the Kirk Memorial. ABC reinstating Jimmy Kimmel. Meaning Disney told him to eff off. Meaning the National Football League told him to eff off. Meaning they all told his propagandists at Sinclair to eff off. Kimmel then shoving him in a locker using only a monologue. Kimmel getting a record 6 million viewers and 22 more online in the first TWENTY hours. Kimmel and his show getting new life and maybe a new contract. His self-owning confession that HE and his goons used threats to get Kimmel cancelled. The fact that Kimmel, and ABC, and Bob Iger, and Disney, and America told Trump to SHOVE HIS THREATS. And that’s just since Sunday night. You lost to an escalator. Resign. Take Vance with you. Take Noem with you. Take Ho-man with you. Take Milei with you. LEAVE the Epstein Files. B-Block (32:53) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Jason Whitlock says eff everybody, this is Christ-land and he won't be brainwashed any more (no brain, no pain). Derrick Van Orden says Kirk was Jesus and you don't F with the Jesus so defund The Mayo Clinic (he should go there and get CT scanned) and Kristi Noem says a tweet saying she'd have a bad day was terrifying for her. This is a piece of crap who in her spare time murders puppies. C-Block (42:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: The New York Post BS firehose points at a couple of liberals at a time, then it rotates away, but eventually it makes a full circle and comes back to you. For me this has been going on since the mid-1990's and it's just started again. If you'll permit, here's a brief history.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
