āI was lying to myself, the man in the mirror, I was lying to myself about where my heart was at, where my mind was at and that was hardest for me to deal with- if I could lie to myself of course I could lie to anybody.ā -Odell Beckham JrĀ Pivot Family- yes! A long awaited conversation comes at the right time as star Odell Beckham Jr joins The Pivot opening up to Ryan, Channing and Fred in an emotional, deeply personal and authentic conversation as Odell navigates his recent life reflections, his football journey, life of fame and where he goes from here. Undeniably one of the most famous athletes in the world, OBJ takes the guys through his football career, the highs, the lows, the stardom, the misconceptions, the regrets, the emotions, Super Bowl win and the one thing he has to face now before getting back to the game he loves most. Announcing his return to the NFL, he speaks about what is next, the team he wants to join, the coach he is forever indebted to and the big plays that lifted him to a larger than life persona. Getting into the celebrity circles, dating famously, high-profile friends, traveling the world, the guys talk about it all and in powerful break through, Odell lets his guard down and owns up to falling short in certain areas as a man, father, son, friend and teammate. He shares how becoming a father saved his life and how being able to do right by his son is the leading factor in why he has decided to change in certain areas of life. On a new path to right the wrongs and capitalize on the time he has now, his one focus is getting back on the football field, doing what he loves and not leave the game until it's on his terms. This conversation is one of the most powerful and honest we've had on The Pivot and we are extremely grateful, that Odell's vulnerability and willingness to share not only enlightened us but also teaches valuable lessons about accountability, growth and second chances. We talk about everything from bad financial decisions, ghosting friends, staying in relationships farrr too long, to impulse buying, ignoring gut feelings and fighting with family. The Debate to Burn New York: Washington Regrets Obeying Congressional Order Against Arson Professor Benjamin L. Carp, Professor of History at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center | The Great New York Fire of 1776: A Lost Story of the American Revolution Following defeat at Long Island, Washington's forces escaped to Manhattan. The British Howe brothers hesitated, offering pardons and hoping for reconciliation. The debate over burning intensified: General Nathanael Greene advocated burning (September 5), but Congress President John Hancock ordered Washington to prevent it (September 6). Washington later confessed this refusal was a "terrible error," as burning would have deprived the British of critical winter quarters. Although Americans publicly blamed the British, rebels had previously burned Norfolk, Virginia. Loyalists circulated rumors that rebels planned arson.

Teaser:I've been having a lot of conversations with APs and other leaders recently and one of the common themes is how overwhelming the work is right now and how hard it can be to invest in self-care. Mara and I discussed some self-care strategies a couple weeks ago in episode 271. One thing we did not talk about is how to unplug from the day so your time away form work is⦠well, time away from work. We are going to get technical and discuss specific strategies and habits you can adopt to increase the likelihood that you can leave your work behind. There are a couple caveats to this: For many of you, there are job responsibilities you have in the evening (subs and buses) ā and we will look at how to work from home in the healthiest way possible next week. The other caveat is these techniques are helpful but they are not a panacea. We'll touch a bit more on that as we dive into the show.Sponsor Spot 1:I'd like to thank Kaleidoscope Adventures for sponsoring today's show. (wish her well at mara@frederickbuskey.com or marabuskeyllc@gmail.com)Key Points Part 1Let's not sugar coat things ā it's hard right nowThings probably aren't going to get much better in the near futureBurnout is an organizational problem (See also Helen Kelly in episodes 141 and 182)That said, there are things we can do to make it āsuck less.āToday: transition home, next week: how to protect home time when you must work from homeOpening with encouragement to do 5mc (it is about reclaiming purpose and being able to say, today, I moved my school forward)Simple and fastGets you critical insightsBuilds relationshipsBuilds teacher capacitySponsor Spot 2:I want to thank IXL for sponsoring this podcastā¦Everyone talks about the power of data-driven instruction. But what does that actually look like? Look no further than IXL, the ultimate online learning and teaching platform for K to 12. IXL gives you meaningful insights that drive real progress, and research can prove it. Studies across 45 states show that schools who use IXL outperform other schools on state tests. Educators who use IXL love that they can easily see how their school is performing in real-time to make better instructional decisions. And IXL doesn't stop at just data. IXL also brings an entire ecosystem of resources for your teachers, with a complete curriculum, personalized learning plans, and so much more. It's no wonder that IXL is used in 95 of the top 100 school districts. Ready to join them? Visit http://ixl.com/assistant to get started.Key Points Part 2Begin with these three reflective questions:If burnout is an organizational problem, what's the problem?Imagine 10-20 years into the future. If you keep working the way you are now, and your self-care habits remain the same, what word(s) pop into your head?If you were out for three months, what would happen at work?A leading cause of fatigue and burnout is the inability to leave your work at work. If you want to be successful - as a leader and a person/family member/friend - you must figure out how to leave your work behind. Yes, this is easier said than done (speaking from experience) but we can develop some practices to help.Key components:Concluding the work dayTransitioning to homeEntering home modeConcluding the work dayReflect on the day, including identifying:Regrets and missed opportunitiesWins and celebrationsIf there is a serious issue that will be difficult to let go of, journal about it and do as much processing as you can. When you close the journal, close your mind. Also, do your journaling in a personal notebook you take home with you, not on a work-owned computer. When the issue intrudes on your thoughts at home, acknowledge and let it go.Identify the three most important priorities for the next day and time block them on your calendar.Transitioning to homeBe intentional about what you do with the trip home. You can use this as reflection time or professional learning (podcasts), but that undermines your transition. It is better to listen to professional podcasts on the way to work (that's why we release at 6 am instead of 3 pm) and listen to music or something that grounds you in your non-professional life on your way home.Entering Home ModeAs soon as you get home, change into casual non-work clothesCreate a specific routine to signal yourself that you are home, such as:Spend time checking in with a loved one (including pets)Imbibe your favorite food or beverage and do something relaxingExercise (consider stopping at a park to walk on your way home ā even for five minutes. One step ā literally- better than nothing; drive straight to the gym, do not pass Go, do not collect $200

What if the small foolish acts you overlook every day are the very things wrecking your biggest dreams? In this episode of The VIBE with Kelly Cardenas Podcast, we break down the wisdom of Proverbs 26, a wild story from Marvin Gaye's backyard, and how to avoid the foolish decisions that derail your life. This episode takes us to an unforgettable moment: standing on a third-story balcony overlooking Marvin Gaye's backyard while the song Sexual Healing randomly played on the radio. My friend Russell looked at me and said, āThat's the hill Marvin Gaye was running up when his dad shot him!ā That sparked a conversation on foolish behaviorāand how often, it starts small.Think about it: if you demanded delivery of a car before it was finished and it showed up without a steering wheel, everyone would call that foolish. And yet, in life, we often ātake deliveryā too soonāmaking small foolish choices that stack into disastrous results.Proverbs 26 makes it plain: foolishness is easy to spot in the big things, but it's the small acts we often ignore that lead us there. In this episode, we unpack those small foolish habits:Avoiding disciplineFailing to read the roomLacking discernmentSkipping due diligence in relationships or businessRefusing to learn from mistakesEgo uncheckedGossipingLazinessMeddling in other people's businessNot telling the truthWhen these pile up, they lead to massive foolish decisions. But here's the VIBE: when our Heart (belief system) is filled with truth, it overflows into our Words (mind/intentions) and flows into our Actions (skills)āaligning everything into that irresistible VIBE. Because the VIBE is not just what you bring into the room⦠it's how people feel when you leave. So here's the question: What's the most foolish thing you've done in the last week, and how can Proverbs 26 help you stop it before it grows?āāāāāāThis Episode Is Brought To You Byā¦

In this Prof Responds episode, we dive into nearly 400 listener comments about one of the most polarizing figures in the Wizarding World: Severus Snape. From debates about repentance versus regret, to his abuse of students, to his obsessive devotion to Lily, listeners wrestled with whether Snape's choices were acts of love, selfishness, or survival. We also unpack how trauma shaped his radicalization but didn't excuse his cruelty, and how Alan Rickman's unforgettable performance softened the character through what fans call the ābaby girlificationā of Snape. Finally, Professor Wamble reflects on the gendered double standard in how fandom forgives male characters like Snape while condemning women like Petunia, Umbridge, or Merope with little grace. This episode asks: are we really forgiving Snapeāor are we forgiving what he represents?

We dive back into the electric world of Las Vegas with Ron and Holly, unzipping the juicy details of their second appearance on from Season 1, Episode 14. Holly steals the spotlight with her wild tales of uninhibited Vegas nights, where fun takes center stage, leaving safety-conscious Ron on edge, waiting for that crucial āI'm okayā text. The episode explores the highs and lows of their adventures, from boundary-pushing moments at clubs to unexpected experiences in the couples room, all while navigating the complexities of respect, communication, and trust in their dynamic. The conversation takes a deeper turn as Ron reflects on feeling disrespected by Holly's lack of communication, which Nessa is likening to parenting concerns, while Holly owns up to a big regret from her no-rules approach. They tackle topics like the challenges of going solo to a club, the reality of experiences not matching movie-like fantasies, and the absence of an exit word in their encounters. With humor and candor, the episode wraps up with a surprising discussion on glory hole rules and a lighthearted nod to even wilder recent experiences, leaving listeners buzzing about the couple's evolving journey.
