I swear, one dude gets his arm cut off in a cantina and we're still harping on about it forty years later. Have a sense of proportion! I got beat up in high school twenty years ago, but you don't hear me whining. That dude should have done what I did--rounded up a posse and threatened retaliation if any assault persisted. What does QVC stand for? Great products at great prices. OK, let's make this clearer: What do the letters in QVC stand for? You will find out the true answer during this week's episode of OLL. Which stands for One Life Left - a poor videogame radio show on a great radio station. Our Super-Special Guest was Alex Fleetwood from Sensible Object, who has passed most of his training to be on QVC. He's been busy making Fabulous Beasts, then renaming it as Beasts of Balance, adding a new feature to Beasts of Balance (which is a potential OLL EXCLUSIVE), before moving onto Alexa powered board games like the travel trivia game When In Rome. Alex has also been trying to make Bingo more exciting, but annoying things like image rights have been getting in the way. We also found out if Simon is annoyed by time travel, if Ste gets on with his microphone, and if Ann liked her hotel in Brighton. And football isn't coming home either, but if this is news to you only as a result of listening to this podcast then you probably weren't that bothered about it’s attendance anyway. Cheerio! Glitch Free Gaming are down in Birmingham at the 2018 UK Games Expo. After a slight hitch in trying to make it on time for the press event, Mike, Ben and Steven take in a few of the sights on Day 1. Mike buys a game from Oink before Ben and Mike speak with Sensible Object about their games that make use of Tech. Steven also hunts down an app that's being demoed. The Ultimate Games Master is touting itself to be the perfect RPG companion. Then the guys played a game of Lander. Lander was on display last year and while they don't have a booth here, Dan from their team brought the prototype along for us to have a shot. After a few more games in the afternoon, Ben and Steven dragged Mike into an RPG. Along with three other people, we became the crew of the Don't Stop Believing in a game of Traveller.
Host Bradley Metrock (CEO, Score Publishing) interviews Alex Fleetwood, the CEO and founder of next-generation game maker Sensible Object. Fleetwood and Sensible Object were part of the recently-completed Alexa Techstars accelerator, and Fleetwood describes the honor of being part of such a prestigious program. Metrock and Fleetwood cover a lot of other ground, including how Sensible Object came into existence, the company's goals for its "Voice Originals" line of voice-first games, and even the philosophy behind what makes for a great game experience. The VoiceFirst Roundtable is part of the VoiceFirst.FM podcast network.
Show host Chris ORegan first encountered Beasts of Balance in the dimly lit alcove within Rezzed 2015 that housed the Leftfield Collection. It was a very different game back then, with a strange set of scales and a collection of odd objects that resembled animals for the most part. 2 years later Beasts of Balance is very much a real thing and Chris chats to George Buckingham from Sensible Object about this dexterity game mixed with a video game hybrid and asks him how it was developed. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/sausage/TSF_Episode151.mp3

Chris and Tom F are joined by Alex Wiltshire of Sensible Object to discuss GDC, Mass Effect, Danganronpa, a little XCOM, a little Star War, and more. Apologies for the audio issues about seven minutes in: Chris had to cross the room to fix Alex’s microphone stand while everybody else pretended that this wasn’t happening. [...]
I'm not usually superstitious but this week's episode of the podcast could give me new insight into being triskaidekaphobic. It's only as I finished editing the episode I realised it's the thirteenth! I was really excited to meet the team at Sensible Object for this episode, the recent studio behind a new type of game blending physical and digital elements called Fabulous Beasts. I've been following what happening with it and as you might imagine I'm pretty interested in new types of games. Beasts of Balance (previously named Fabulous Beasts) is in the last few days of a crowdfunding project and I encourage you to go check out the game and participate in the Kickstarter to support them. I visited their studio at Somerset House in central London and had a lovely chat with their lead designer Tim Burrell-Saward. A few days later when I started working on the sound editing for this episode, I realised like 80% or more of the episode had almost constant background clicking sounds that I find really annoying. I've spent hours on trying to remove them, reading and watching tutorials, etc. I don't know what it's due to, it's the first time that it happens. It's a real shame - though maybe I'm dramatising. At least I thought it's ok to listen to a few minutes of this at a time so rather than imposing the whole thing or throwing it away altogether I opted for a slightly experimental third option, I kept only what I considered the most important and best parts of the interview, and talked in between paraphrasing some of the things Tim and I talked about. To complement the audio podcast, I recommend watching a few videos with reviews and play tests of the game, which hopefully will give you a better idea of the way it works and the reasons why I think it's an exciting project. Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life
With Episode 58 being recorded a day later than normal, tons of news was able to surface before we hit the record button, ensuring that the show was packed with relevant news! Before getting into the four franchises normally covered on the podcast, however, we had the pleasure of interviewing Alex Fleetwood, the Studio Head of Sensible Object, creators of Fabulous Beasts! A couple of weeks ago, we tried to explain the upcoming Fabulous Beasts game that fuses the toys-to-life genre and tabletop games, but we couldn’t do it nearly enough justice. We had to get the information directly from the source, and thankfully, Alex was gracious enough to come to the podcast and fully explain the beautiful world his small studio is creating in Fabulous Beasts. While currently on Kickstarter, all signs are pointing to Fabulous Beasts being the next evolution of the toys-to-life genre of gaming. Check out the Fabulous Beasts website HERE! Want to back Fabulous Beasts on Kickstarter? Visit the page HERE! After championing the inclusion of a jellyfish creature into the game in a great interview, we eventually had to let Alex go to enjoy the rest of his evening, but we weren’t done there! We jumped right into the news of the four main TTL franchises, talking about the upcoming LEGO Star Wars animated show on Disney XD, the saltiness of amiibo fans, the leak of Alice in Wonderland characters, and the Pow(D)er Blue Skylanders. We also discuss the #CommunityQuestion, play another round of “Inquire This!” and answer some emails from the community.
